I really like this place! Sometimes, I feel like the staff could be a bit more friendly, but that also very much so depends on the day you go. I've had excellent service and bad service. At first I was bummed that they started selling more pet supplies and less animals but I totally get it after realizing that people are always going to point fingers at you even years after getting a pet and it dares to get sick or something happens. But they have a lot of variety and I like that they carry a lot of good, holistic food and not just crappy food like Iams, Purina, and whatnot. read more

I do this for a living, usually have to report back to a certain upper, but at this extent I feel the need to put it on Google and yelp reviews so that the community would be aware I had a very disappointing experience at this pet store, and I won't be returning. The biggest concern was the overall health of the animals. Several pets did not appear to be in the condition I would expect from a store that is supposed to prioritize animal welfare. It's heartbreaking to see living animals treated as inventory instead of being properly cared for. The staff was another major issue. They were unfriendly, dismissive, and seemed to have very little knowledge about the animals they were selling. I was given incorrect information about proper reptile lighting, which could seriously affect an animal's health if a new owner followed that advice. A pet store should be a reliable source of accurate husbandry information, not misinformation. Customer service was just as disappointing. It was difficult to get anyone's attention, and when I finally did, I felt like I was inconveniencing the employees. The manager was rude, unprofessional, and showed little interest in addressing concerns or helping resolve problems. The store also had very little inventory compared to what was advertised, making the trip a waste of time. To make matters worse, they refused to honor valid, unexpired coupons and provided inconsistent explanations as to why they wouldn't accept them. I also noticed products, including food and medications, that appeared to be expired or approaching expiration. That's unacceptable for products intended to keep pets healthy. Overall, this store needs significant improvement in employee training, customer service, inventory management, and its commitment to both animal welfare and the customers who trust them. Until those issues are addressed, I cannot recommend shopping here. read more

Rude customer service was bad enough, but what really bothered me was the lack of honesty and accountability. Legitimate concerns about the safety of the animals were dismissed and minimized, and when they were proven wrong, they backtracked instead of admitting the mistake. If you can't be honest about the well-being of the animals in your care, that's a serious problem. I would never recommend this pet store to anyone who wants to buy an animal or trusts them to provide accurate, safe information for pet owners. During a recent visit, a sign on the door said they are soon going to become the "Pet Emporium," and they were having an "All Pets Must Go" sale. I believe this is because they are going to shift away from selling animals and toward selling more pet supplies. Right now, it's a small, neat and clean pet shop with an interesting variety of animals. I couldn't look at the kittens long because I wanted to take them all home with me. They also have a wide variety of tropical birds, including a variety of parrots, some zebra finches, Guinea pigs, milk snakes and more. In addition, they do sell a few pet supplies and equipment. read more

I have not purchased anything at this store where I have requested assistance from the staff such as animal purchases. That being said when I have gone in the store looking for treats or food the staff has been friendly and shows me where I need to go. The store is not that big so even if you're not sure where to look is likely you will find what item you're looking for, unless maybe it's a pet. I don't ask he staff for their advice on foods or treats because my pet has allergies so I look at the ingredients anyways. They have a good return policy that if your animal does not like the product you can return an item with receipt. Even if the item is food or treats. read more

I suppose this gets my vote for best pet store in the area. While they no longer have the whole aisle of fish (though the staff will whole-heartedly recommend the awesome Fish Dr. in Ypsi), they do carry some aquarium supplies still. About 3/4 of the store is pet supplies, and it's a pretty good variety, so I'd recommend trekking here instead of PetSmart (or whatever the heck it's called) or Pet Supplies Plus. In terms of animals, the focus here seems to be birds (including some very large tropical ones!), reptiles, and unconventional rodents, which makes for an interesting pet shop visit. The reptile tanks all have labels that say "locally born and bred captive," so I give kudos to them for being upfront about that. They also have chinchillas, dagus, and sugar gliders. I will never come to this pet store again. My boyfriend and I just pretty much saved our 2nd hedgehog from this place. I had one already and my boyfriend decided to look around for one of his own when we came across this place. He called and put the last one they had on hold. When we got there, the girl helping us was very condescending and talked to us like we didn't know what we were doing and that apparently everything I've been doing with my 1st hedgehog is all wrong. She said the loose bedding isn't right, the food isn't right, the heat source isn't right, even having a food and water dish isn't right and that I should have more! Keep in mind, this one is NOT our 1st hedgehog and the one I already have I got from a breeder, who gave me directions on how to take care of him. I had to bite my tongue and just let her carry on with her spiel. When she finally took us to get him out of his enclosure, we were surprised he was even alive! He had just water and bedding in there with him. Also with no source of heat, after the girl told me that I was using the wrong thing? At least I have something over mine. She could barely pick him up he was so quilled out and scared. When we got him home, we realized he was covered in his own feces. The girl told us to our faces they cleaned him everyday but there was no way. It was just caked on his feet and in his quills and he smelled horrible. Finally, she told us he, well she said he or she because they really didn't know and gender is not store guaranteed, was about 3 months old but there is no way. His quills are falling out like crazy and are all mangled. I did research and he cannot be older than 4-6 weeks from what his quills are doing. Hopefully when he stops quilling, his new ones will grow in less mangled. My 1st hedgehog just turned 4 months and he's a lot bigger weighs more than the little guy we just got. We've had little Leo for a week now and he's still super scared but he's coming out of his ball a little more everyday. We are glad we made the 45 minute drive because if we didn't, this poor little guy probably wouldn't have made it. This store might have good quality foods and supplies but do not take good care of their animals. read more

I purchased a ball python from them and they are great! I recommend local pet shops over the big corporate ones for this reason, all their animals are from local breeders and they truly care about the little guys they are caring for. My python is curious and eats great. They want you to check in with them how the pet is doing even after you get them because they care loads about the animals. The lady I purchased my python from was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly and I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a pet! It is a little pricey for equipment and supplies but you know you're getting quality stuff. read more

This pet store is a great place to go for small animals and reptiles. They have an impressive and varied selection of locally-bred animals, often in interesting and hard-to-find color morphs. My review only relates to parrots. This shop may be fine for other animals BUT, do not buy a parrot from this shop. We got a beautiful pionus parrot from these people. We were told he was about six months old. We found out later he was more like a year and a half old. The upshot is that we loved the bird and bonded with him and then he suddenly got very sick. We had only had him for 5 months when this happened. We took him to a good vet and they tried their best to save him but he died. I think he was exposed to something at this shop which made him sick (parrots are quite sensitive to certain contagious diseases). We had been taking him back to the shop for trimming. So, do not take your bird here for wing, beak or claw trimming. They are not careful about hygiene when they do these types of bird care. Do not buy bulk parrot food here for the same reason. If you do buy a bird here, make double sure they tell you the truth about it's history and age. read more

Smiling faces, cute rescue kittens, excellent quality of tank animals, great supplies, friendly birds and helpful workers. Their prices are a little more than PSP on pet food but it will be newer and fresher (big chain stores typically warehouse mass quantities pet foods for up to a year at distributors which they themselves actually own. Little stores like this do not do this). Crickets are fatter and healthier than PSP's too (which are a little cheaper but my frog deserves the tastiest chirp-chirps I can buy!). They also own the 'Pet Emporium,' which is a more upscale, boutique-style pet supply store. In case doggie really needs his yogurt-covered sweet potato duck crunchies...! read more

This is a small, clean, neat pet store in Saline. The best thing about this store, besides the friendly staff, is the smell. Most stores make me gag, because I have a very sensitive nose, but I was able to stay in this one and look for gifts for friends. Wonderful staff, very accommodating owner and all around fantastic place. I have a dog with a VERY sensitive stomach and their staff is extremely knowledgeable on dog foods. They also carry A LOT of good brands that the big brick stores will not and will usually specially order if needed. I hadn't been into the store in over 6 months because my dog was on prescription food and when I came back they knew my dog, what he used to eat and asked how he was doing! Very helpful, friendly and they keep their prices very competitively. I have probably spent a couple of hours over the last few years chit chatting with the staff and owner about various topics. We purchased a kitten for our kids here in November. We were told that the kitten had been vaccinated and screened for feline leukemia. Shortly after returning home, the kitten had some bowel issues. We took the kitten to our local veterinarian, where they ran a battery of tests. Not only did the kitten have worms, it also had feline leukemia and a severe digestive problem. After 6 months and thousands of dollars trying to treat the kitten, today we lost the battle. Today we lost a member of the family. One that should have been still been alive when my children left for college. In the future we will be more cautious when choosing a pet and a pet store. Unfortunately, it's a lesson we had to learn the hard way. I encourage you to adopt a pet from a reputable shelter or society. A place that will guarantee, that your prospective pet, is healthy and disease free. read more

This store has great staff who know a lot about pet nutrition and have helped my pet family have great coats, healthy bellies and nice teeth. I've learned to rotate proteins and why grain free helped my cat's tartar issue. They've been patient as my cat tried new food and they provided helpful samples. read more

I bought a sweet, White-Capped Pionus and 2 cockatiels from Pets-N-Things 6 years ago. They were, and continue to be happy, healthy birds. Initially, the store manager, Cathy K., helped by educating me on the different breeds of parrots and their personalities. She personally bred my White-Capped Pionus as well as the Blue and Gold and Green Wing Macaws in the store. They are also the only store in the area that tests their birds for various diseases. I don't know of any other pet store that does that. Pets-N-Things wants to send a pet home that will be a good fit for the family and they made sure I knew exactly how to care for my parrots (pellets, cooked "Crazy Corn", stimulating toys, etc) before I purchased and left the store with my birds. Whenever I have had behavior questions regarding my parrots, they are right on with advice. Pets-N-Things offers other services too, such as bird trims which I regularly take advantage of (need not have a bird fly out the door, into a ceiling fan or a toilet!) I am grateful for the ongoing relationship with their professional caring staff. If I need a product that they don't have, they can usually order it for me and have it within a week, maybe two. My birds have brought my family and me so much joy ... my pionus loves her head and neck scratched and talks a little and I LOVE my male cockatiel who 'cat calls' to me, has quite a vocabulary and sings a Good Morning song to me that I taught him. My *flock* greets me every time I come home with happy calls. I wouldn't have had such a great experience with my birds if it weren't for the caring staff at Pets-N-Things. I HIGHLY recommend them for ANY of the pets and products they sell. read more
