Meh. I've experienced much better. I'm a Diner snob. It comes from living in Baltimore. I think we defined diner culture out there. This place definitely wasn't bad, but it wasn't anything near what I'm used to. The food is tasty, the service was fine, and like someone else said it definitely isn't "clean" so you know it gets alot of traffic. But the selection is miniscule compared with what I'm used to. Sorry, but it's true. I'm used to a variety of burgers, crabcake and otherwise, as well as steaks, plates, pastas, and other assorted tasties. Now, keep in mind, you'll almost never go wrong at most Greek diners. It's part of Greek culture- if you open a diner and it's crappy, they'll send the Furies out and destroy you. Google it. The food was tasty. I'm almost tempted to give three stars for that. But I can't. I just can't... I've experienced much better, and I'd just feel cheap giving a higher rating. Everyone in the area seems to be able to count on Pete's Kitchen for good food at all times of the day. It is the kind of old time place, small, comfortable, busy and friendly that I have always been attracted to. Pete's is all that and is clean, bright and has good energy. The menu is large enough for anyone to find something that they either like or would like to try. I had the Greek Salad which was more than enough for me. It included a good amount of Feta, couple of stuffed grape leaves and all of the rest of the typical Greek salad including a side of Pita. My son had the Gyros Melt which came with fries. Both were ample amounts of food. Others in Pete's were ordering breakfast specials and these appeared massive. Service was quick and friendly. The crowd was varied with everyone smiling and enjoying their food. Your check is taken at a cash register, yep and old cash register where you have to press the buttons and the total comes up on the top viewing area. Hadn't seen one of those in years, not much can go wrong with this machine. All in all, Pete's is a place that has loyal patrons as well as those who just stop by. But those who are the latter, then become the former. read more

So Pete's. I have been coming to this restaurant since I was a young child I consider this the best breakfast places in town. Apparently with the pandemic any kind of take out from this location is a futile effort in poor service lack of COVID-19 mask gloves or any kind of protection. Ordered a breakfast burrito supreme no veggie got a breakfast burrito supreme with no tortilla and tons of veggie. The other order we had was country fried steak with scrambled eggs and extra cheese on the eggs. They were the worst eggs I've ever seen anywhere, no cheese, had to come home and actually make them again ourselves and gave them a five dollar tip for braving the pandemic. So disappointed I cannot tell you how disappointed we are.petes you are a loser today. So bad we may never come back. read more

What a place to stumble upon! Went to Walgreens and found this gem across the street on a Saturday morning as we're leaving Denver. Visiting from New York, we know real diners and this one is as good as it gets. Classic Greek influence with a nostalgic, unique feel. I ordered the gyros breakfast sandwich and my boyfriend got the burrito. Both amazing! Some of the best gyro meat I've ever had and you watch them slice it right in front of your eyes. Pete's is an old standby that always delivers consistently good diner food. Our most recent trip here was 10 PM on a Sunday. My wife just went for a side of mashed potatoes, which I must say were a tad bland but still good. I ordered the gyros plate for the first time (I usually go for breakfast here) and the meat was fantastic. Unfortunately it only came with lettuce, pita and some diced tomatoes and what appeared to be sour cream. Some diced onion and cucumber, along with tzatziki, would've been welcomed as that's pretty much standard with any gyro plate I've ever had. I absolutely love this place! It's open 24 hours they serve lots of food, good tasting food most importantly, and the atmosphere is friendly. The floor can get a little slippery so be careful walking to restroom. I would definitely recommend Pete's Kitchen to all my friends from out of town. Came here with some friends for dinner before a movie. Ordered a gyro sandwich and a house salad. The salad was decent, nothing special - mainly just iceburg lettuce. The gyro was alright, but I think next time I'll try their breakfast menu options since those looked tastier. Our waitress ignored us twice when I tried to get her attention to refill our waters. I can't believe I have lived in Denver for 50 years and this was my first visit to this great diner. My family of five stopped on the way to the zoo and we couldn't have picked a better place for a hot meal made to order. I had the hot beef sandwich and it came heaping with perfectly cooked beef and gravy. My daughter got a fried chicken sandwich with hashbrowns instead of fries and everyone else substituted onion rings for their fries. The BLT was a little skimpy, but it was good. Some friends brought me to Pete's the other night after a show for a "late night" bite. The place was totally packed, and I'm informed that that's how it always is. The food was good. French toast at midnight is never a bad thing. My husband got a huge breakfast burrito that he loved. The waitress was fun, could have been slightly more attentive, but like I said it was really busy there. Pete's Kitchen is a local dive that's been around for years. It's also the go-to place on Sunday after Wrangler's beer bust. Regardless of your appetite, they'll have it. Biscuits and gravy is my favorite dish. Inexpensive, filling and tasty. Greek Salad is a good option and enough to share. Traditional hamburger is juicy, basic and good, goes well with a side of crispy fried onion rings. Pancake sandwich is another favorite for late night or breakfast. Mexican burger looks like a mess, but it's delicious. Top it with extra onions and Pete's hot sauce makes it another one of my favorites. read more

This is a Greek restaurant that is a favorite in the city, and someone told me to go and try it. It's located just east of downtown, and in a busy part of the city with a bunch of stores and attractions. You walk in, and you could sit at the bar, or wait on a table. I sat down at the bar, and got to see the food cooking in the oven right in front of me. I ordered their signature item, a breakfast burrito. OMG! This was probably the biggest breakfast burger I've had in my entire life. It's filled with ham, green Chile con verde stuff, cheese, and onions. You definitely need a fork for this meal because it's so cheesy. It's your entire breakfast in one burrito. You'll be full after you finish it, trust me. There's also breakfast items on the menu, like Denny's or IHOP would have. However this is probably better than all of those, and the Greek food is something everyone should try. I didn't get any of the lunch they had, but I'm going to have to come back to Denver and try something else. You might have to Uber to this place, or even park and walk a ways because there's not really a parking lot to park in. But come on down and try one of Denver's well known restaurants! read more

Getting a gigantic philly cheese steak sandwich with loads of crisp, tasty fries at 1 am after a 2+ hour delayed flight getting into Denver was awesome. The circumstances leading up to my first visit here were a bit unusual. My friends and I had excitedly attended a macaroni and cheese festival earlier that day. However, they had run out of mac and cheese far more quickly than expected, leaving each of us with only two tiny sample cups that did nothing to satiate us. (I swear I am not making any of this up.) We left annoyed and hungry, and one of my friends remembered that Pete's was close by, so we decided to eat here. Well, Pete's was just what we needed! Friendly staff, big portions, and good prices. There was no wait even though it was late morning on a Sunday. (I'm sure we would have been waiting forever if we had gone to a certain breakfast place that starts with S.) I LOVE that they serve breakfast all day and that many items on the menu are Greek. They are also open 24 hours, which is somewhat rare for restaurants in Denver. Perhaps the best part of Pete's is the classic diner feel, super old-school and homey, like you have stepped back in time simply by walking in the door. With the tidal wave of gentrification that has crashed on Denver and all of the new restaurants that pop up seemingly everyday, I can't help but feel that places like Pete's Kitchen are becoming scarce. I am fairly adventurous and like trying new places, even some with kale and quinoa featured prominently on the menu, but there's something to be said for a place that's been around longer than even my parents have been alive and doesn't have any hip, fancy, or artisan food on its menu. You can't create a vibe like the one Pete's has by simply calling your restaurant a "diner" or filling it with 1950s decor you found in your grandparents' basement. You can only get this feeling by being open for decades and feeding generations of hungry Coloradoans big plates of delicious, uncomplicated food. Whomever said nothing good happens after 2am has never been to Pete's Kitchen. Open 24/7 and located in the heart of Colfax, Pete's Kitchen serves their best meals in the middle of the night. Most of the visits I've made to Pete's has been well after midnight, typically after a good amount of drinking. You cannot beat the people watching here after the nearby bars have already had their last call. On my first ever visit it was almost 2am and the people in the booth next to us were dyed completely blue, head to toe. Nobody else in the place even seemed to notice. I imagine this wasn't even the weirdest thing the staff at Pete's saw that night. If you aren't interested in the people then I suggest you sit at the counter and watch the cooks. You'll be amazed and/or horrified at the quantity of butter they use! I guess that's why the food is so good! I've tried a few sandwiches and breakfast plates, and everything has been great. However, nothing on the menu can beat the Breakfast Burrito Supreme. Don't question me, just get it. It's a hangover cure on a plate. Truly, it's the best breakfast burrito in town. If it were the only thing Pete's Kitchen had on the menu, I'd still love this place. What else can I say? I'm a fan! read more

Authentic 1950's bigotry is not exactly an ideal business model considering the location. I was sitting waiting for my food, I see the lady at the register staring at me. I stare back for about a minute, I'm thinkin' to myself "Are we having a staring contest right now, wtf? This is uncomfortable." I decided to wave at her, she waved back. Oh, so she isn't blind, she's just rude. Staring at people until they feel really uncomfortable & leave I guess. I mean, who would wanna be around all that BS, when good service is right down the road at Tom's Diner? It's just eggs and toast, the only difference is I feel welcome there. So back to my story, I walked up to the pleb and say hi, she says hi back. I asked her why she waved at me, she said because I waved at her. I told her I only waved at her because she was staring at me and it made me feel uncomfortable. She denied it, and said she was just looking around the restaurant. I go back to my seat like, "What does she think Im stupid? She was straight up staring at me. Fuck her and fuck Pete's Kitchen." I got up and left. I walked over to 7-11, got some chips. I hadn't had a meal in two days, I really didn't want chips. I went back in and sat down, when my server came to the table she asked why I left. I said the lady at the register was staring at me, and it made me uncomfortable. She told me she didn't think that was the case. I asked her if she thought I was making it up, and she was like "I didn't say that, I just said she wasn't staring at you." Somebody that wasn't even there is gonna tell me what happened, fuck that & fuck Pete's Kitchen. I called the manager the next day & told her everything. She told me the staff had been working there for a long time, and she trusts them. I told her I see reason to go back, I'll go to Tom's Diner from now on. My dumbass friends don't wanna go five blocks down, they ended up dragging me back into this horrible place tonight. The server came up to the table to tell me I have been 86'ed, I can finish the meal but I can't return. I told her what I have went through, in one ear out the other she repeats herself. "You have been 86'ed. You can finish the meal, but you can't ever come back here." I asked her where the confusion was, if she was gonna tell me a third time or if maybe she could write it down? She said I "don't need to give her attitude." You need to be drug testing your employees. When I get 86'ed for telling management I feel uncomfortable when the staff stares at me, yes. Yes yes yes. What is not so good in the service. 2 of the last 3 times I've been there, they've been out of onion rings. But instead of telling me this, they serve me my sandwich with fries! They don't even bother to tell me they're out of rings they just bring me fries!!! My most recent visit (2/13/2022) the manager gal didn't even ask me if I wanted something instead of fries; just brought me a plate to put the fries on. I rarely eat fries, so they were a total waste. We were there a little after 1pm and they weren't very busy; maybe half full. Certainly, enough time to pay better attention to their customers if they wanted. I usually go here every few months, but it'll be a while before my next visit. read more
