Great little shack for Fish N chips. The Pollock fish was crispy and cooked to perfection. It's not like your regular fish batter so the change is welcoming. The fries also tasted quite British and they are using tasty potatoes. Everything was well seasoned with salt. Overall, a nice experience for a 1st timer. Elizabeth (said she was a manager) has terrible customer service. I called because I got home began eating the food and it was all under cooked besides the fish. The fries were cold like they just got dipped in the fryer not cooked. The shrimp was undercooked and the batter was raw inside. I took photos and threw the food away, I called to let them know and she immediately said "well you need to bring the food back" after I said I have photos I told her I threw it away and she continued to say they won't do anything without the food I got irritated and she said fine you could come today and get the food again but not the sauces which I don't want either thing. My family grew up going to Pete's. We used to go to the original location in Tempe on Mill Ave. This year Pete's Fish & Chips is celebrating 75 years here in the Valley. Pete Grant moved to the Valley and opened his first stand in 1947 because his doctor said he needed to live in a hot dry climate for his medical condition. Back then, fish and chips were only 35 cents. Food has always been affordable and still is today. Pete used to say that Pete's Fish & Chips is the Biltmore for the common man. It's been awhile since I have stopped at Pete's. There are still quite a few locations here in the Valley. As a kid, I would always get a monster burger or a hot dog. If you have never been, they have a special "secret sauce" to dip your fries in. I think it is cool that Pete's Fish & Chips sticks to the old ways of doing things and only accepts cash. There is an ATM a each site if you aren't prepared. For the negative reviewers, Pete's Fish & Chips isn't gourmet food. It's meant to be cheap greasy fried food. I will start with the good. Pete's sauce is good. Actually I like it. The birds are very friendly, and want to spend time with you. Don't turn your head. Good part done. Cash Only, I assume so you don't do a charge back for poor quality food? Odd experience, the cashier kept licking her hand and arm while taking my order. The 2 oz sauce isn't enough, though, and additional cup is only 10 cents extra. The fries, are cooked in old grease like others have mentioned. It was this and only this that gave it any flavor. The fish...Well, let me say that I have never been to prison, but if I ever go to prison, these square "fish" pieces are exactly what I expect to get served. I do have faith that the prison would at lease use clean grease though. At first sight, I thought fish patties were hash browns. We love Pete's Fish and Chips! I have been going there since I was a kid. It was one of the few places me and my friends could afford as teenagers growing up here in Phoenix, Az. Pete's is still just as Awesome and Affordable as it was back then. We get the 4 piece Fish and Chips with a Large Onion Ring on the side, so good. They give you plenty of Pete's sauce on the side and you can always order more. There's never enough sauce They are doing a great job with social distancing, wearing masks and keeping everyone safe. If I could give it less than one star I would. How can people eat this food. It's like eating saw dust on a shrimp or piece of fish. Maybe it's cheap. I have no idea why I didn check the reviews first. Each time we go to and from the airport I say we need to stop there; and so after 35 years of going past this joint, we went there for a bite tonite. The only thing that was decent was the tartar sauce (and they probably buy that) and that could not cover the disgusting tasteless breading that covered the fish and shrimp. We packed it up in the bag and tossed it! The other thing that was good was the Pepsi and the darling girl who took the order. No, I would NOT recommend this place. As I looked deeper into the reviews I noticed the reviews are very polarized (Either 5 star or 1 star mostly). It's very odd to see such a swing in opinions. You get a lot for very little $. Was this the best fish & chips I've ever had?? No but it's fast food, good & cheap. I'm kinda surprised others hate it, the filets aren't fishy at all. I also enjoyed their special sauce & tarter sauce (Both good, just wish they offered malt vinegar). All in all for the price & for what this place is I think it's great! We told the gal in the drive thru and you would have thought we were completely annoying her. She wasn't going to do anything then we handed her the bag and she said. It feels a bit warm. Seriously? I would never go here again in 1 million years. After wanting to go to this place for five years, i discovered upon getting home they serve premade frozen fish patties stamped in rectangles. I think it comes with a cocktail sauce that is essentially catsup with maybe a pepper or two per gallon ... DONT waste your money. Go a few blocks away to Sprouts, buy some cod, take it home and make your own. If you don't know how, contact me and I would gladly walk you through it so as to never make someone else go through what I did. I also ordered a coleslaw, and upon opening when I got home, the container was half full and there was so seasoning or acid in it whatsoever rendering it flavorless.
