Waited over 30 minutes for a 1/2 rack plate and 1/3lbs of brisket to go. Only to find out they were out of Mac n cheese. They asked if I'd like to wait another 10 mins or if I'd like to substitute for something else. I told them to just throw some more fries in because I didn't feel like waiting even longer. Once I opened up my food I realized I was never even given the extra fries. And the brisket looked like they scraped off the shavings from their cutting board and served me that. Stopped in with a friend of mine who was craving brisket. What we were served was a small mound of greasy thin sliced super fatty beef. Undoubtedly the worst brisket we have ever had. I've actually eaten there a few times and it's been okay. My recommendation would be to give up on the brisket; there was no smoke ring there was no smoke, just fat and grease. Might be the worst barbecue I ever had. The brisket was dry, tough and fatty. The barbecue sauce was just out of a bottle pure sugar. Potato salad was terrible. Coleslaw is pretty good. This place is in the back of a liquor store and if the food was great that would be pretty cool but the food is so bad you just feel like a jackass for buying expensive barbecue in the back of the liquor store. read more

DO NOT ORDER A CATERING ORDER FROM THIS PLACE. Placed a large catering order for my son's rehearsal dinner for his wedding one month before the date and paid $1100 for what I was told would feed 50 people. I called the Tuesday before the pick up date of the order and confirmed everything with assistant manager Braden. He seemed a little flustered when I was confirming and asked if we could change the pick up time from 11:00am to 12:00pm. We agreed to that, but that was when I got that funny feeling that things might not go smoothly. I should have listened to my gut. On the day of the event I called 15 minutes before our scheduled pickup time to give them a heads up we were on our way and was told they mis-read the order and thought the pickup time was 2pm and they would not have our ribs or cobbler ready until 2pm but I could pick up the rest and come back for the ribs & cobbler. At that point I was very frustrated As we were going to have to leave our guests to do that. We arrived at 12:30 and they were still packing up our order. I then looked in the foil pans they'd put the tri tip, brisket, and pulled pork in and immediately knew it was not going to be enough food. I was constantly assured this would feed 50 people. Well, our head count at our event was 45 and we ran out of ALL the meat within 15 minutes of the beginning of our serving the food. We were not offered ANY compensation or discounts after they failed to have the order ready and we obviously were not given the amount of food we ordered. We were VERY embarrassed with our guests and with the new family we were hosting and meeting for this very special occasion. read more

Yum! I have driven by and seen and smelled the smoker they have in the parking lot for many years. Went for the first time on Saturday and went back on Sunday for more. Hubby and I shared combo #1- 1/2 chicken, 1/4 rack of ribs and our choice of meat was tri tip. It also came with 4 rolls already sliced if you wanted to make your own sliders and 2 sides--we opted for baked beans which came highly recommended from the cashier and coleslaw. The chicken was so very moist, the meat on the ribs fell off the bone and the tri tip was delicious! They have a spicy bbq sauce that I got a side of to dip my tri tip in. It was just the right amount of spice. On Sunday I ordered combo #2- a whole chicken, 1/2 rack of ribs and choice of meat was brisket. Again, I was not disappointed. The brisket was a little more flavorful than the tri tip (it is a fattier meat which equals extra deliciousness), but don't get me wrong both are yummy! They have a lot of great menu items that you wouldn't expect a BBQ place to have such as burritos and tacos...all of which I am sure are amazing. They also serve breakfast burritos. I must have hit this place on a bad day. There are a lot of good reviews here but that was not my experience at all. The good: The ribs were excellent which is why I wonder if I just came on a bad day for the rest of the items I ordered. The bad: I ordered the mac n' cheese. It was very bland and the noodles were too soft and starchy. Wouldn't order again. I also ordered their cole slaw. I didn't care for what I think was mustard in it. Maybe some people like that but it wasn't something I cared for. The ugly: I ordered a pound of brisket. It was horrible. They sliced it thinly and heated it on the grill??? It was tough, no smoke ring, would have been dry but for the fact that it tasted kind of greasy. Easily the worst brisket I've ever had, which given what I said about the ribs earlier, is surprising. Maybe I went on a bad day, but I unfortunately am unlikely to try it again given the cost. All in all, I was really disappointed. Pete's BBQ reminds me of former New York Yankee player and manager Lou Pinella. During his playing days, no one would ever mistake Lou for Willie Mays, but Lou reliably made contact, advanced the runner and got on base when it counted. Lou was good and good is sometimes, well, good enough. Pete's is not the finest exemplar you will ever find of BBQ but it is good. The brisket was a touch overdone in places and less "meat-buttery" than the finest BBQ. That said, the smoke ring was present and prominent and the less well done pieces were enjoyable enough, particularly with the BBQ sauce which was surprisingly good. The ribs too were just okay. Now, I prefer spareribs to baby backs but with Pete's choice of rib granted there was something about the preparation of these baby backs that I found other than memorable but again, it was good enough, particularly with the sauce. My 10 year old who is less of a Q-file went with the grilled cheese which he rightly pointed out featured the waxy texture of Kraft singles which is not a plus. The mac & cheese evoked the bland density of fresh Velveeta. Again other than optimal. I might recommend avoiding these two offerings. The coleslaw featured an atypical mustard kick which while not necessarily my favorite, was good. Nice folks. Good enough food. Astounding beer selection if you factor in the adjacent grocery store. If you want some BBQ, Pete's got it. The experience will in no way transport you to Austin, but we're not supposed to be traveling these days anyway. read more

It took me a long time to stop here and now I have been there probably a dozen times. The meat is wonderful and the prices are fair. I love the combination platters because I can't pick just one. Brisket, chicken, ribs awesome. The sides that I have eaten are good, but not particularly spectacular. They are just sides that compliment the star of the show. The meat. The service....hmmm...well...I always feel like they think they are doing us a favor by being there. They are not rude, but it is not overly hospitable. Often times it can take a long time for food to be served and calling in an order has not seemed to improve that. They are just plain slow and it seems that their management knows more about cooking than managing the work flow. That has not stopped me from going back nor do I expect it will, but not if I have a timeline. read more

On our recent vacation stop to Julian, we decided to stop at Pete's and it was seriously the best decision. This was our first time (and soon 2nd time) at Pete's and we decided in the Glamis Burrito, CFS Burrito, and the Mac and cheese. I was just blown away by how amazing the CFS breakfast burrito was. The chicken fried steak was crunchy and juicy, the gravy was deliciously creamy, the eggs were fried just right, and the potatoes were perfectly crispy. The salsa was perfection. The Glamis burrito was also great (but I still liked the CFS more). Personally, I would not get the Mac and cheese again. It had soggy noodles and the cheese tasted very processed and fake. However, this CFS burrito was so good that we decided to make the trip out there a few days later to get another CFS burrito and to try the brisket burrito. This time the cook was different and the CFS burrito was slightly different, but it was still just as amazing. The brisket burrito was good, but had room for improvement. Regarding customer service, it is top notch. The staff are professional and friendly and willing to go the extra step to ensure your visit is perfect. My BF and I were in town visiting and were craving BBQ, so we googled bbq places near us and this place popped up. It was 8:20pm and it said they closed at 9. We called and asked if they are still accepting orders, and they said yes. (I wish they had said no). We order a combo with ribs, whole chicken and brisket, comes with 3 salads and 4 dinner rolls.
