I asked for two (2) pork sandwiches, sauce on the SIDE. What kind of sauce? Oh a couple of spicy and a couple not. Got home an hour later and found 2 sandwiches smeared with sauce, and four 2oz extra sauces for an added $3. Simple mistake but dismaying since I'm not that crazy about Pete's sauce (KC Masterpiece) Sauce on the long trip home made the sandwich really soggy. Oh well. I've seen the place before but never could figure out where the entrance is. Oh the liquor store is the bbq joint. Interesting. We order the combo #1. My son is a picky eater but proceeds to devour a brisket sandwich, an order of onion rings, a piece of chicken and a rib. I'm flabbergasted at how well he's eating. The best places to eat are hidden like this gem. It's inside a liquor store and just driving by, one can smell the yummy meat bbq in the air. We were coming back from a day trip from Julian and wanted to grub. Julian was too packed so came to Ramona. Glad we did cuz the food here was amazing. I had the burger with the onion ring and the first bite was divine! The meat was a tiny bit dry but the flavor was spot on. I tried my friend's plate of tri tip and it too was tasty but it had more fat than I usually like. My friend didn't mind. He ate it all. Fries were crunchy. We did get a beer since it was happy hour but we had to wait until the one guy in the back cooking could get it, as the kid who took our order was too young to give us our drinks. That was a bit annoying because we could've been drinking our drinks while we waited. But it's all good. Guy in the back hurried and helped us. Happy for our experience overall. Love this place ! The brisket, chicken, beans and Mac n cheese were so yummy! I took away one star because my Ribs were cold. But overall service is quick and efficient and there's plenty of sitting. Apparently they had the "D" team working tonight because they forgot part of my food order via DoorDash. No worries I'll just head over and re order it myself. I let them know there was a mistake and was met with doubt and hostility. The fry cook came over to the counter angry telling me there wasn't even an order under the name it was ordered under. I showed them a receipt and they acted offended. I got my food and they gave me soggy fries, overcooked tri tip with no BBQ sauce and an absolutely disgusting "peach cobbler" that was blackish-brown from how old it was. Ramona 100 degrees hot, as you were driving down the road, you spotted a big bbq smoker right outside a liquor store, then the bbq smell inviting you in. That's how I ended up at Pete's BBQ. Unfortunately they didn't have beef ribs here like indicated on the menu, so I asked one of the employee only to find out that the beef ribs didn't sell well up here compared to down in San Diego. The meats were great!!!!. The sides, not so much. All prepackaged and/or frozen, not fresh or actually made there. The pictures of the sides available are not true to what you actually get. This place is really unassuming but so amazing! It's in a liquor store so that kind of threw us off, but alas, yes this is the place! The food is extremely reasonably priced because the portions are huge and the food it's good quality. I got the brisket sandwich which had friend onions and bbq sauce. It was AMAZING and huge minus that fact that one side of my bun was pretty burnt on one side. I got it with a side of Mac n cheese (for + $1) for $13.99 plus tax, and I could not finish all my food. One of the best BBQ spots Southern California has to offer! I've been to this location multiple times on my way to Barona Motocross. I left my wallet out on the deck and the fine staff that works here made sure to keep it safe and I got it back the next time I came in! Fantastic BBQ joint that smokes their BBQ on site! If heaven were a food, it might just be Pete's pulled pork mac-n-cheese. We pop in here about once a month, and we pick up large trays for birthdays and even a Christmas meal which was a big hit. The team here works hard, is always friendly, and they prepare and pack up the food well. Some of our favorites are the ribs, the tri tip salad, and good slaw and baked beans. Fabulous for leftovers. In chatting with local small businesses complaining about the heavy fees from door dash even when I am ordering to pick up, I switched to their toast online order option, and that app is super easy to use and I just pick up with it all ready. And I get reward points that gets me some extra food without that coming through increased prices like DD does. So it's a win/win, and I'm well fed. read more

SO GOOD! As a matter of fact, I'm writing this review 3 days after eating Pete's BBQ and my mouth is watering from the memory! Visiting family in Ramona and the suggestion of grabbing food from Pete's came up and my husband and I immediately resounded with an enthusiastic YES! Last time we were in the area, we drove past Pete's when the smokers were fired up and going full force and wanted to stop but sadly ended up elsewhere for dinner. Not this time! We ordered the Combo #5 along with another 1/4 slab of ribs, potato salad, beans and rolls. The perfect lunch for the five us to eat back at my sister's house. I'm a rib lover and Pete's does ribs right! All the meat was absolutely delicious. The potato salad was great and those beans....oh, those beans! Everyone loved them. Prices are reasonable for the amount of food you get too. Just one thing was missing for me - sausage! My 2nd favorite BBQ item so I was a little sad about that. Staff said it all came from the same batch (so in other words we're not gonna replace it and). The meat had a nice smoky flavor but it just was next to an edible. Their menu changed from the last time I was here, offered amazing recommendations to replace what our normal to go was. My husband always gets the tri tip Mac n cheese, big portion for a hard worker. Their bbq is spot on, I've never had a problem with dry or overcooked meat. They have a smoker right outside of the store. It's attached to a liquor store, so it feels like a little secret that only locals know. I'm sharing with everyone that the food is great and worth stopping by if you're in the area. I only gave it 4 stars because it's not the best place to stop inside and eat with more than one kid to tend to. read more

Food is very good and the smoker outside the front door is very effective at drawing you in. The downside is this little diner is inside a mini market. Tables are small and you feel crammed in there. We get together on our monthly/every other month lunch date with Soo and Maggie and this was our next choice for today. Pete's Bbq and Burgers are in the same store with the Liquor Store. We were slightly confused when looking for parking but figured it out after going into the store. Liang eyed the breakfast burritos which he said were a pretty good deal. Too bad they aren't closer to where we live. The menu had quite the options, breakfast burritos, salads, sandwiches, burgers, ribs, chicken, plates, burritos, tacos, fries and a kids menu. There were also combos, which are definitely worth it for a family or a big group. We got the combination #1. We got two pieces of Chicken - white meat and dark meat, 3 pieces of ribs, 1/2 lb of pulled pork and three dinner rolls. For sides we got the cole slaw and the potato salad. Cole slaw was a bit more disappointing and didn't have much flavor and was lacking in taste. The potato salad on the other hand was amazing. Much flavor packed in. For a drink, we shared a AleSmith. I thought it was pretty tasty. I'm pretty hard to say with alcohol as my taste buds recently have changed. We got to sample a bit of the baked beans which were pretty good. Maggie ordered the pulled pork fries which I thought was a nicely combined dish. The french fries were nice in crispy and went along in combination with the cheese, cole slaw and bbq sauce. Soo and Liang both ranked the ribs as the best. Maggie and I preferred the potato salad the most and then second was the pulled pork fries. If I had to rank everything else - then the ribs, the pulled pork and the dark meat chicken thigh area. A few things that I heard that I thought were very memorable from today. "Fat is what gives it flavor." "We don't want to waste the precious meat. Unless it's the ribcage, that's too much work." Always a good time hanging with Soo and Maggie and having good conversation. I used to eat here when I worked in Ramona. It is definitely worth the drive from Escondido for their burgers. I showed my cousin and dad this gem yesterday. I got the build your own burger, my dad got the classic and my cousin got the blue cheese one. They were all huge and delicious. Those fries are perfect too. Crunchy and just salty enough. Staff is always nice and you got shop for booze in the liquor store it's in while you wait! My dad also got a half rack of ribs to take home but after we ate most of those too he went back for 1/4 rack! On the way home from our drive out to Mt Laguna he asked to stop there for another burger! I knew they would like it but that just made my whole day. I will continue to spread the word! Great tasting BBQ... served in a liquor store!? Yup you read that right. From the outside it looks like your usual liquor store but after a couple steps inside, past the beverage fridges and shelves of chips and alcohol, there's a spot to dine in and eat some delicious bbq. Ordered the Brisket plate which comes with 2 sides and 4 slider buns. The brisket was nice and tender. They add some squirts of bbq sauce which made it more delicious and they give you a hearty stack of meat. We chose French fries and mac and cheese as are sides and I have zero regrets about that too. Ketchup and hot sauce on the tables. My bf and I shared and finished the whole damn thing I tried some tri-tip to-go from my bfs family and it has a nice smokey flavor They serve beer Also have more than a handful of tables... maybe at least 10. This is a nice little bbq spot that will not leave you disappointed at all or let down. I personally ordered a brisket sandwich and a pulled pork burrito. Which both were amazing and had so much flavor I had to let one of my three friends try the other half of the burrito. I also ordered a family pack for 6 to take home to the family. If your in the area in Ramona off Main Street and you smell the bbq smoke stop in and say hi....... This place is by far way better than any other bbq out there right now. So my friend from Jersey stopped by on his way to his new living place in northern CA. We got 3 plates and 1 of them had rolls as a side. Everything was phenomenal as usual other than the terribly burned rolls. Guys? HEY GUYS? Would you like me to come in and teach you how to prepare these rolls? I can do this, I have experience in the industry. I'm not saying you guys can't cook but I AM saying you, apparently, can't cook the rolls for crap. Just the rolls it seems. I see others complain about this and have seen pics of this being a problem even from months ago so where is the problem? Nestled inside Ramona Liquor is Pete's BBQ & Burgers. I've eaten here several times and have always been impressed. I've had tacos, burritos, chicken curry, etc. All were great. This place is a remarkable standout for me. When they first opened, the dining area was fairly depressing. Gone are the ghetto, prison cafeteria style tables. Now there is a whole section of tasteful, new, square 4-top tables with comfortable chairs. All bordered by a classy railing. Makes it feel very much like a bistro. Such a well-rounded and neat place to eat, despite the fact that it's inside a liquor store. They're even serving draft beer now! read more

I love finding hole in the wall spots and a bbq joint in the back of a liquor store in Ramona is exactly that. Too bad the bbq straight up sucks. I got a brisket plate with potato salad, baked beans, and corn bread. The only half decent item was the beans. The cornbread was dry and underwhelming, but worst of all was the brisket.
