Easily the worst most costly mistake I ever made in my life was trusting this guy. The remodel of the house went fairly well, but there were 4 or 5 pick up jobs needing repair which he promised to do but never delivered on. Then he contracted to re-roof the hangar, which doubles as the patio/deck off of the home. He never got a permit for it, didnt pay the engineer who never finished the calculations, then went ahead and poured a 20 ton stamped concrete deck which lasted about a year when the substructure collapsed. 20 tons of concrete went down like a bomb blast. The neighbors thought an earthquake had occurred.
He refused to make any amends and when we sued for damages he filed bankruptcy, and had no assets worth claiming. It was just luck that no one was on the deck at the time and nothing was in the hangar.
He comes across as a stand up guy but when push comes to shove your on your own.
There is a whole different standard in the hills when it comes to professional construction companies. They call it "mountain time". I call it "Manana Mentality". Nothing that cant wait until "manana".
EVERYTHING is harder to get done up there. And most of the work is sub standard.
The Hangar, which was an essential part of this homes value, cost us over 200,000.00 to have repaired. In all, we lost 800,000.00 with that and the down turn in the market.
I find it hard to believe Fischer is still in business.
The NEW engineer we hired wouldn't go to court and back us up because he was a friend of the one that did the substandard work. Another 5000.00 in fees up in smoke.
There's a "buddy system" at work in those hills as well.
It makes me sick to my stomach to just share this information and remember the Mountain Vacation home from Hell.
