Jeff was courteous in our meeting and agreed that he would do the repairs and send me a work order via e-mail with a cost estimate. Regrettably, Jeff did not furnish me the cost estimate at all. I waited a week for the estimate and made several phone calls and left messages on his cell phone asking if he had made the estimate yet. After a week had passed when I heard nothing from Jeff he sent me an e-mail saying he decided he couldn't do the job until next year. This was in conflict with what he told me when we met at the property a week before. i had to come 82 miles on the day we met to discuss the work needed. Jeff did not act in a professional and organized manner in this negotiation. He was not business-like and pulled the rug out from under me and made no attempt to get me satisfied. I could not recommend him as a contractor because he apparently does no employ fair business practices. When we hadn't heard from them for a few weeks, I began leaving phone messages and taping notes to their door - it was embarrassing. On one occasion, I caught the owner in the showroom, bul no commitment date, Mike said "we'll give you a call soon." After waiting a few more weeks, my husband left msgs on three different numbers, no return call. I again called in November, speaking with the other M. I explained our situation; he had no knowledge of our "small" job, but did say that they had just gotten a big job which they were currently working on. He said that maybe they could "squeeze" us in during Thanksgiving week. This did not work for us. In the middle of December, Owner M called to say that he could "probably squeeze" us in during Christmas week and would let us know, nothing definite. Finally, M called the week before Christmas, saying that they would do the job on December 21st 2018, 3 days before Christmas. We accepted, knowing that the timing could not have been worse but wanted the job done. It will be a very cold day in hell before I use Bartel again. Beware of having a small job!

I wanted inset drawers and doors, and that is an art, do I didn't go with the lowest cost options from the Valley. The photos on their website look so elegant, I thought it was unlikely I could afford them, but when their bid came in it was substantially below the competition. My contractor mostly works with another cabinet-maker who was impressive but cost prohibitive. The designer worked hard on squeezing everything into a small space. Now I am in my home, and I love my little kitchen. Thank you, Birchwood, for making a gem-like little kitchen possible for me.

We had a very disappointing experience working with Valero. In the beginning, he made big promises…read moreabout quality and said he would meet all of our expectations. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. After almost a year, the cabinets we received were much lower quality than what we were promised, especially considering the price we paid. He told us we would be getting dovetail drawers, but instead we got basic drawers put together with staples and no glue. We only found this out after doing our own research and pointing it out to him. This was never explained to us upfront, which was very frustrating. In reality, it felt like he took advantage of our lack of knowledge in cabinetry. When we brought it up, he said real dovetail drawers would have needed to be ordered from somewhere else. That was surprising to hear from someone with so many years of experience. We had already paid him 50% of the contract a year ago, assuming he would use that money to purchase materials. Later, we found out he hadn't, and he came back asking for more money, which we still paid. On top of that, timelines were repeatedly delayed, forcing us to reschedule other site work and incur costs due to Valro's last-minute cancellations. He repeatedly asked for more money throughout the project without finishing the work. Every time he came to the site, he made sure to ask for payment, but somehow "forgot" to complete the work he was there to do. We also treated him very fairly throughout the process. We paid for his hotel when he came to install, and we bought him lunch and coffee every time he visited. We did this because we expected good quality work and honesty in return. Overall, this was a stressful and expensive experience, and we regret choosing Valero for our cabinets. He overpromised, underdelivered, and failed to meet basic expectations of quality or professionalism. I have attached the contract and the actual installed cabinet. There is a photo of the unfinished work from Israel because he "forgot" the side fillers and the finished side panels of the cabinets. Just stay away from this CHEATER and LIAR called Israel Valero.
