In my life I've had my fair share of pets. Everything from fish to cats to dogs to hamsters to rabbits and yes, tadpoles (they didn't make it to frog-hood). Interesting that I never had a turtle. I wanted to get a turtle as a Christmas gift for someone who wanted one. That want was quickly squashed when I was told that the 10 gallon tank he had wasn't big enough for a turtle. They need at least a 40 gallon tank. Time for Plan B. Fish. Goldfish. Turns out they're low maintenance which is perfect for this guy. I got great advice on the care of the goldfish and how often to feed them. I chose the one with some crazy big bubble eyes. I like my pets to have character, even if they're for someone else. But (it's a big but). They literally only had 2 people working the floor on Christmas Eve. There were quite a few people in there buying gifts for the pets and people like me with questions. So they only had one register open. I stood in line longer than I shopped. Grr. He loved his fish and Bubbles is doing just fine. read more

I like this Petco because it feels very DIVE... haha, it's dimly lit and is not nearly as large as the PetSmart up the street. But for all the physical lacks in the ambiance, PetCo more than makes up for the service. When I buy food for Toby I usually purchase the big bags and even though I don't need the help I'm always offered it by the cashier. I'm also always made aware of the specials and promotions that the store has going on. One time I purchased some Eukanuba for $48 dollars after tax. The Cashier had advised me if I had spent an extra $2 dollars that I would get a voucher for a $10 dollar giftcard for future use. THAT WAS AWESOME!!! I bought some shampoo for Toby (which he needed anyways, stinky stinky), and I got my 10 dollar giftcard which I later used for a collar for the guy. On a totally different note, the Petco is located next to a Michaels so every now and then I'll stop in the Michaels to see if there's any decor that I can grab for the home. read more

I have been coming to this Petco for years. And this past summer, a worker that was very knowledgeable, helped me pick out the right food for my pooches. Now, I come here every few weeks to get my dogs their food and every time, I'm always greeted with smiling faces and given great service. That ended today. I purchased a Christmas bandana for my dog, but since he does not do clothes, including bandana's, I needed to take this item back. Of course, I can not find my receipt. So I called, spoke with a Jessica who said she would honor my return and all she had to do was look up my information. I went in, and my luck, Jessica had to help someone else, so I waited a few minutes, and was already on a time restraint but figured I needed more food, so I can kill 2 birds with one stone, return the bandana and get more food. When she finally came back from helping the other lady, she then had to go in the back to look up my information, which was another few minutes, but I waited and when she came back, she told me to wait in line and then I would be helped. Well, I was livid! I already wasted 10 minutes of my time, time I will never get back and I'm told to wait in line? I told Jessica I had already been waiting, ahead of everyone else, so why should I have to wait? Her excuse, because the other 2 people were waiting too! I grabbed my stuff and walked out. Then I realized I had the dog food I didn't pay for so I went in and put it on the floor. I'm not sure what happened to customer service but this by far is not it. I worked retail years ago. When a customer has been waiting, as long as I was, you help that customer. You don't tell that customer to wait in line. I will now have to start shopping at another Petco that is far from me, but I refuse to waste any more of my valuable time at this one. My time is precious. I doubt losing one customer is that big of deal to them, but I am saddened as my dogs did like this Petco, and I did too! read more

I walk in this place no hey, hi, hellos. This fancy white lady walks in maybe 15 seconds after me and this man who ends up being a manager says hello, is there anything i can help with? Then passes me 3 times but never offers assistance just glances at me with his creepy eyes. So awkward!!! The vibe here was dead no life just like all the creatures in there look miserable. I tried to avoid him during checkout but lucky me the other employee left to break. I have to say he was nice during checkout while taking my money and asking for donation (i did donate). The manager here is horrible. It's a female in her 30s. I was in the store and asked if I can see the cats that are up for adoption. She asked her co-worker if I am a volunteer... no, I'm not. Does that matter? Only volunteers can adopt the cats? I don't understand. Therefore, her answer was no. How do you expect the cats to be adopted if you don't allow the public to hold them? We need to know if the cats are friendly or not or whether or not we have a bond with the animals. The most important thing should be getting the cats adopted. I don't know what her problem is, but as a manger, she needs better customer service skills. I returned a dog harness before at this store. I had the receipt, the petco packaging, and also the petco label on the harness. She gave me a hard time saying that this will be my last time to return it because it looked used. Of course I used it. I had to try it on my dog to see if it fits. I used it to walk him once and it was raining. Sorry it wasn't in new condition. But I didn't know there was a policy in returning items as well. This store needs a new manager. I will definitely contact corporate as well. I love the workers. I've been coming here for 9 years... some have been here for that long. They're helpful and happy unlike the manager. I am going to only go to Centinela (Long Beach & Pasadena) from now on. Everyone there have way better customer service. They actually help you to the car & the prices are better than Petco. They also carry better cat/dog food. read more

I just recently purchased a new German Sheperd puppy and it's been the most wonderful, difficult experience of my life. I went to Petco not expecting very much because I had purchased most of her things from another pet store, but still wanted to check them out because I had some last minute items to purchase before our we leave for our first road trip in a few days. I ran into their trainer (they only have one on site) and was amazed by how much she knew about dogs, what items to purchase, what brands they enjoy, etc. She was so helpful and made a stressful experience (first-time puppy owner) a really enjoyable one. I intend on returning to this Petco for her future vaccinations, chip, and grooming needs. They definitely earned a new customer and it's all thanks to their wonderful trainer. Please, Petco. Do what you can to retain her and keep her happy! I come to this pet co store over the pet place down the road because of its location. In the past, I'm talking like years ago, customer service has been great in my opinion. Not so much anymore. The two stars are for my last 2 visits. First I went in for a water test for a new aquarium I'm setting up. I have bought everything from here except the substrate. No one aknowledged me when I walked in. The cashier was with a customer and the other lady, who I hear is an assistant manger, ignored me. Then jumped into the conversation with the customer and cashier. Finally the cashier acknowledged me and the other lady reluctantly said she would meet me in the back for the water test. She asked me if I had all my aquarium stuff. When I said I did that was about the end of conversation. She made a mention of my results and started to walk away. I understand free water test is to get you in the door. But at least maintain a customer service attitude. I had some things to buy that day, I went to the other pet place down the road. Then I went back for more plants. My bad for not researching the plants first. But why on earth would plants be sold as aquatic plants when they are not. They are kept in an aquarium at the store. Guess it's true what they say about assuming. Why would the guy "helping" me not mention the plants not being true aquatic plants? Hopefully my $7 lesson was worth losing a long time customer. Wow I went to Petco to buy my dogs probiotics and while waiting in line, one the staff (an elderly lady with grey hair) was trying to feed one of the cats they have for adoption, it seems like the cat didn't wanna eat and she was having a hard time feeding him, she dropped the cat's bottle and she slapped him on the face!!!! WOW lady!!! She didn't even care there were people in line looking at her. What a shame she's a Petco staff!! That's animal cruelty period! I took my pup on a walk and we stumbled upon this Petco. Walking in, the cashier welcomed us. We shopped around and walked around the store. Everything is pricey, but we did find some good Clearance deals. I bought a harness-seatbelt combo for $10 off and a Loofah toy for half off also. I do not think I would have purchased these regular price. While walkin around, one employee approached us in a friendly manner and helped us find the harness and explained them all in great deal to us, which was greatly appreciated. Then he offered to help if we needed further assistance. Another employee also asked how we were doing and was very courteous as well. The staff is so friendly and helpful. Probably one of the better Petco's I've been to. Right when I walked in, the lady helped me open the door since I was pushing a stroller. She also asked me if she could help me with anything. I eventually found my kitten food and told me the ones I chose were one of the best they carry that have quality ingredients at a reasonable price. While I was checking out, though, there was a group of highschool/college students I believe, making a big fuss about something. I think they worked at the grooming center and was complaining about their 'drama'? I'm not too sure but one of them was rolling her eyes and eventually stomped out of the room...awkward. Went into this location on around 10:30 am to purchase the Whole Hearted XL Chicken Flavor Dog Food which wasn't in stock but immediately noticed nothing seemed to even be restocked! The shelves looked empty! Already bad. The worst part, NO ONE greeted or offered to help me, yet I spotted an employee named Kim standing around doing nothing. I was in a hurry so I just left. I came back the next day same time hoping the food would be restocked of course it wasn't and SAME employee Kim standing around doing nothing once again! WHY ISN'T ANYTHING RESTOCKED IN THE MORNINGS!! And why isn't no one even bothering to help me? COMPLETELY DISAPPOINTED. I decided to come back in the afternoon to give them one last shot. Thankfully, the food was restocked and helped by Sean. Very nice employee, took his time to help me out with whatever I needed. I explained my frustration with him, he calmly apologized but suggested I give them another opportunity to continue shopping with them. If he's around then I definitely will. Restocked store and helpful employee!! That's the way it should be! I have been to at least two other Petco's (Hollywood and Glendale) looking for the same product and no one was helpful or even knowledge about the product until now. A nice gal (sadly didn't catch her name) spotted me with a frazzled look and offered assistance. Since the last two Petco's the staff was awful I did not expect much. But to my surprise the staff was friendly, knowledge and answered my questions. This Petco is close to my house, and they have the Wellness brand that my doggies eat... so it's convenient. Most of the time I have to wait around for someone to check me out at the register (haha), but yesterday I had no trouble. I even signed up for a Petco PALS card. Very nifty. It's kind of dimly lit, don't really understand that. But they are well-stocked and, when they have an adequate amount of employees working, offer their customers good service. read more

TERRIBLE service! Apparently, there's a policy of not accepting senior dogs for grooming. If that's the case, fine, but then don't let people make appointments for them online. I made an appt for my 13 year old chow. Somebody from the grooming dept called but they actually called my sister's number instead of mine. So I called back, but the grooming salon was closed for the day. Whoever took my call said they'd take my name and phone number and pass it along to the groomers so they could call me back the next day. I don't get a call back, and assuming everything is fine, I wake up early to take my chow to his appt. They took one look at him and said they couldn't work on him due to his age. Again, if that's the official corporate policy, that's fine, but don't let us make those appts in the first place! And second, if the employees had done their jobs and called me back, I wouldn't have wasted my time and effort to go there for an appt they wouldn't let me have! What's odd is that they made absolutely no effort to make up for this, like offer a coupon for another grooming appt (I have other chows) or for a free bag of treats or something. It's the gesture that would've mattered, not necessarily the item. But no, not even that, even though they dropped the ball. Don't bother calling corporate...I was on the phone for over an hour and got nothing resolved. And whoever is responding to these bad Yelp reviews...don't bother with your empty words. Waste of time coming here to try to get my cat groomed. I had called almost a month ago to make this appointment and spoke to Jeanette which is the grooming manager or something. When I called they told me I needed prof of the vaccines but never was told to take the rabies certificate. Second as a cat groomer when someone is calling for service, shouldn't the cat groomer ask if the cat is aggressive when bathing or how do they behavior to determine if they cal groom the cat, well the groomer never did until I showed up. When I told Jeanette that he does get aggressive with bathing, which is normal for cats, she's like well if he's to aggressive or if he does hiss one time that's it I won't groom him and you need to come get him. If all this was said over the phone I would of never made an appointment and wasted my time. Apparently they want cats that don't hiss and like bathing! Besides that she was rude and gave attitude. Do not call yourself a cat groomer if you can't even groom a cat. She needs better customer service and needs to know how to explain things over the phone. Again waste of time. read more

If i could give 0 stars i would. I Had made an appointment with my pet here and no one showed up. The lady who opened said they'd contact me asap yet no one did. So i called politely telling the manager i could only make an appointment on the weekend since they could not fit me in, due to their stylist not showing up. The manager kept trying to make me come in on a week day after i specified i could not as i work. We eventually found a weekend for my pet to come in which wasn't until 2 weeks later. The week of, a few days before my appointment, Petco randomly cancels my appointment stating i had rescheduled it for a monday and that i had missed my appointment. I never did, so i called and they told me a random man told them they could reschedule me. i knew something was wrong because My number is mine only and has been for over 10 years and i am a female. No man has access to my phone. i was upset as my pet has been waiting for weeks from their previous appointment, but kindly asked the manager for my appointment back as i did not reschedule. they refused to give me my appointment back since some made up person gave it away and kept pushing me to take a weekday appointments that were weeks away even though i specified multiple times i can't. I have come for years and never had an issue until this. Ultimately They kept promising me a solution and to call, which i did, and failed to give me an appointment/solution for my poor sweet boy. In the end i have not been able to resolve this issue with them. I understand how difficult customer service is when things are out of your control. That is why i have done my best to be kind as i know most people are just following directions, yet no one here even really cared to help. I felt bad for my poor dog that was promised services only for Petco to care less about making things right. I even called corporate to get help for not only me, but hopefully that no one else and their poor pet has to deal with it. Instead they took away my ability to now make appointments because i had requested multiple times, a solution for this issue. Very disspointed in Petco for their lack of customer service. I defintely wont be a customer anymore nor would i recommend Petco or their grooming services as they clearly lacked any care for the pets coming in. read more
