I think this Petco is amazing. Everyone there is very helpful and kind. Groomers do great and I see they are doing the best they can to keep inventory up since it is so hard to get inventory now. As other comments say.... This is not a ghetto place. Maybe this person should really drive through the ghetto to she what that really looks like. Place is always clean. What a big disappointment, Petco has become. I spent a minimum of 72.00 a month on dog food alone, for the past 12 years. I used to have my Malamute/Husky groomed once a month at $105.00 now I only spend (4) $8.99 Each for Mysis Shrimp, salt water fish food. You have lost that business and all the donations too. I told several people at Petco that my rewards which is in their system as my email was used by someone and there reply was maybe someone else has the same number. Not in the past twenty years I tell them. So petco keeps sending me emails attended for this other woman, mentioning my dog by name who past last October and suggested sales items, discounts ETC. I received a ad stating If I order Mysis Shrimp and make it my second delivery. I can get it for $6.99/EA. That's 8.00 off So I place a order, quickly I get a message saying they do not have it in stock.??? So I go to the Whittier store and ask for the store manager The person at the register asks for phone number says the ladies name I said know this is why I asked for the manager and started to tell her about the problem and she was not even listening, to me. She turns towards the register and types away, so rude. I told her your not even listening, she says I'm sorry with out even looking my way and continues trying to ring up my fish food. I was not going to purchase it if they were going to email my phone at $6.99 and then sell it to me for $8.99 But since she was not listening, she wasted her time and mine. I just recently moved and needed to get some bedding for my chinchilla :) Sooo I decided to go to this local Petco...I was kind of surprised at how bad the inside looked. This place really should get updated or all together demolished and make a new Petco. I did go to the Petsmart that was close by and I believe Petsmart was bigger, newer and had more variety of items. This is a great petco. I just had my Buddy groomed today and he looks amazing :-) Buddy went in with tons of burs and stickies from a visit to a nature reserve. I didn't have an appointment, but they managed to fit him anyways. They are super nice and accommodating there. I will definitely bring him back for grooming. Not a good place for cat grooming! I took my cat here on Sunday 7/29/18 and the lady who was gonna help me groom my cat seemed like she was gonna do it but then she thought about it for a few seconds and then said that it's better to just come when the lady who does cats is there. Didn't wanna help me. They can only help you on select days when their cat groomer is there. That's inconvenient for the customer. I drove all the way here from Anaheim because I was told that Petco in Whittier is the only place they groom cats. But based on my experience not really! I'm not gonna come when the lady is there I will just go somewhere else. If you have a cat and you want to get it groomed I would not recommended you go here as they discriminate based on if you have a cat or a dog. read more

One lady in the aquatics department refused to sell me a starfire (small) fish because she THOUGHT I might put it in a 5 gallon tank with my beta AFTER I specifically told her I was going To upgrade my beta tank AND in any event this could've been a gift for my niece (ITS NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS WHAT I DO WITH THE FISH AND WHAT I HAVE AT HOME). Prior to that she said that people need to google information about fish but that she understands that it's difficult for people to google. I am a paralegal, my skills extend FAR BEYOND googling. Let me start off by saying... DON'T BE A KAREN. So I walked in looking for a litter box and some cat nip spray. I was in here for about 10 mins. I walked in and saw a couple workers we made eye contact, yet no greeting, I was looking for the cat isle and could not find it. I came across the same worker I saw and she didn't ask me if I needed help... after I found the litter box isle there were tanks of items blocking the whole section same worker passes by going into the back room not even trying to move the tanks so I can shop... at this point I was upset. I over heard her pick up the phone and say "hi this is KAREN how can I help you?" In this case don't be a KAREN. This was ironic because she saw me multiple times in the store and didn't not help me. Service at the grooming salon is awful. Let's start with my arrival to drop off my dogs, the salon was slow and two staff were standing at the front desk. I opened the door and greeted the staff hello with no response from either of them. I then said "hello" a second time and one of the staff responded with "hi." They proceeded to ask me questions about my dog and they conducted their assessments as if they were vets. While completing paperwork the staff was bothered with the fact that I refused to sign a form that was not my or my pets form. The form had a different owner listed with different contact information. The staff then rudely said I'll be back but it's going to take a while. I not once received an apology for their mix up. When I arrived to pick up my dog the staff informed me that one of my dogs seemed confused at the grooming process because they kept shaking. If they were more compassionate and experts as they claim to be they would realize that a shaking dog does not equal confused. Rather did they think for one second that they could be scared of baths? Or rather that they dislike the blow dryer. If they would have taken notes they would have realized that my dog prefers not to be blow dried. At pick up they also called their manager over so that they could tell me that my dog was no longer welcome because Of his confusion and how he had Allegedly growled at the staff when the staff tried to take him out of the kennel. Sorry Petco, you need more compassionate grooming staff that know how to do more than groom dogs. I won't be taking my second dog there either. Petco Business employee please do not respond with your generic response of " Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear about your recent experience at your local store. We strive to provide exceptional customer service, and sincerely appreciate hearing from you. We will work with local Petco leadership to ensure that your concerns are addressed. I had to be a Karen because, every time I go in this store, I can't get prescription cat food for renal failure because my prescription was written for one brand and not another and my pet likes the other. C'mon, these are not meds, it's food that serves the same purpose, just a different brand. Anyway, I had to get a prescription from my vet for the one the cat likes, and they still had to call the doctor to verify--the written scrip wasn't good enough. Petco, come on! Made an appointment to groom my dog when I made the appointment the front desk person saw my dog and I told her what I needed today I get there and one of the ladies tells me the dogs needs an additional package that I was not requesting although I appreciate the input I had specifically requested a regular bath for my dog nothing additional the lady gets up grabas another employee they both come back and tell me in order for them to bathe the dog the dog must get the additional package. WOW super furious that I'm not entitled to my own decision for my dog but now I have to do what someone else tells me in order to just have my dog bathe ???? Where's my voice as a customer I don't care if the dog won't turn out perfect he just needed a quick bath that's all nothing fancy super disappointed in the customer service I received. read more

I had a great experience today! Nathan was very knowledgeable & helpful in helping me to figure out why my dog still has fleas after using a treatment. I didn't know it takes a month to work!!!! Later, Karen was so helpful and nice! She mentioned that the certain cat food would be going on sale and then checked and it actually was on sale so I bought a ton because my husband has been feeding the neighborhood cats. Made an appointment to get my dog's nails clipped. I only wanted a trim. On the email it said Ashley was going to cut my dogs nails but a groomer who's name Heaven cut my dogs nails instead. I didn't mind. I trusted this girl. She was gentle and super nice to my dog, which I liked. But before walking out of the groomers to pay I noticed something. On the paper with the barcode it said "Nail and Ear Care" which was going to be way more. Whenever I take my dog to this location I only get his nails cut. I asked Heaven why it said that. She looked at it and then said "Oh well I already buffed his nails. He didn't like the clipping but didn't mind the buffing." Idk if she expected me to respond with "Oh okay it's fine then??! LOL no. I showed her the email again and how it only said mail trim...THAT'S IT. Horrible customer service. Why would I pay for something that I didn't want in the first place? She then printed out the right service which was mail trim ONLY and didn't say anything to me like a "Goodbye have a nice day". I recommend the groomer who's name is Alejandra who's cut my dogs nails in the past. She's super nice and good costumer service! Petco, where the pets and MYSELF love to go. I enjoy petco better than petsmart. Better selection of dog food, toys, and treats. When I come looking for something in specific, what I do is check online first regarding their prices because majority of the time the price tag is higher in store. Whip out your phone, show em the advertised price and they'll match it. I actually did this the other day when they had cow hooves on their website listed on sale for $1.39 but wanted $1.99 in store. So I got all my cow hooves for the $1.39 price. Am I happy? You know it. Is my pocket book happy? Duh, every 60 cents per hoof I saved is just gonna go back into buying my dogs something else. But are my dogs happy? Hell yeah. Win-win for us all. They also have a vetco here finally. I take my dogs here for their vaccines. It's quick, affordable, and they also have a $5 off coupon on their website for vaccinations. They'll waive the exam fee if you get the full packaged healthy dog plus vaccinations too. Overall cost me $84 with the coupon. read more

Tried taking my dog there for his bath and upon our 7 am appointment time no one showed up. The girl in the front pretended to not see me and I waited half an hour there for someone to even open the doors and tell me that there was no groomer for today to take my dog in and a manager would call me. Waited 5 hours no call. I call them and they said no one said to call anyone, whatever. I make an appointment with the lead groomer and he makes it for the next week because I can't possibly take my dog in the same day he was scheduled. I get a call later saying my appointment was moved and I don't have my Sunday appointment anymore because some rando called to move it and they just took the information. I never moved my appointment I never called them and now they're pressuring me to just take an appointment during the week which I cannot because I work and they close too early. Had a horrible experience at this Petco. I called to make a grooming appointment for my dog. I was told by Jeanette that since my dog was older they would take her next week so that my dog would have the quality time to be bathed, and groomed and not be put in a kennel. Jeanette continued to say that at my dogs age staying in a kennel would be traumatizing. Jeanette lead me to believe that my dog was going to groomed, and ready without the cage experience. Jeanette continued to share that she had twenty years experience and having my dog put in a kennel would be devastating.We received two phone calls from Petco grooming prior to her appointment confirming our appointment time and the great experience our dog was going to receive. My appointment was at 9:00AM on a Saturday morning, we were told Jeanette was not in and that our dog would be ready in four hours. My son and husband were the ones that dropped our dog off. I immediately called Petco spoke to Jessica about the four hour time frame. Jessica mentioned that there was no note stating our dog was to be groomed without being put in the cage, and as a matter of fact my dog was bathed wet and in the cage waiting to dry and that would be about four hours. I immediately told Jessica I would be right over to pick up my dog, and I believe I was lied to about the experience my dog was to receive. I was so upset that my dog was wet and left in a cage to dry which she would be for hours. had I not immediately picked her up. I arrived at Petco asap wrapped my dog in her blanket and brought her home where I blowed dried her hair. I want to share how special our dog is to me and my family she is so loved and she gives so much love to my children and to my family . My dog is kind, loving and smart and she truly does not deserve to be mistreated and we will never return to Petco. read more

I was racing from Norwalk to the whittier store and at 8:56 I called the store and told Sean I'm 3 blocks away at the light (I used actual street names) and my fur babies are out of food! Sean is one cool cucumber because I'm having hysterics and can't remember which "color" bag I buy - with a new rescue Chihuahua I switched to small bites to accommodate him but kept the same flavor to accommodate my labs & there has been a recent change of the packaging - I'm literally stuttering! Sean asked all the right questions, I said I buy the medium grade (ReallyBrandi? Medium grade? I rarely go to the gas station so for those words to pop out gives me the giggles!) Sean knew just what I meant and as I came sliding into the store there he stood to let me in WITH THE CORRECT BAGS waiting for me. Enter Kerri the Kashier! ***Sidenote here - she has a great hair color! Now I'm blabbering and Kerri is just as collected as Sean and neither is acting rushed considering it's now after closing time. I mentioned I was running late today because I was out rescuing lost Chihuahas and little dogs are not my thing - well they weren't until one made me his person and decided he was going to live in BrandiLand with us & has now taken over as pack Alpha - I'm not sure if that statement led Kerri to having me donating or if she had me donating to begin with, either way I saved money and dogs not as lucky as mine are benefiting Win Win! Can't believe they got 3 stars. This place is ghetto! Inventory all over the place, in organized. Thought I was in a Kmart . Had an appt with 'Vetco' for a stray. Had the stray about 5 days - seemed pretty healthy . Had taken her to a vet to check for a micro chip and they thought she looked ok if not a bit thin and dehydrated. Been feeding her canned food to help her get hydrated. Finally found a co worker that agreed to take the cat but needed to Make sure she didn't have feline leukemia. So appt was made to get some vaccinations and to check. I guess traveling in a box was distressing for her as she peed and pooped in the box. The 'technicians' at petco refused to see her because they said she was obviously sick and had diarrhea. We need the test done so the person who was leaving town would take her - but now new arrangements needs to be made. I'm not a cat person we have 3 dogs but I just couldn't leave the kitty out for coyote food so have been fostering her all week. Just disappointed how these people treated the poor cat- try to Do the right thing but You have these 'professionals' who aren't very sympathetic nor helpful. They're in the wrong profession, but I guess whatever pays the bills. read more

Petco is fine for a quick stop for needed supplies but I have to say the Grooming department was awfully disappointing. After having appointments already canceled twice ( one at another location) I was eager to try a third time and get my girl a cut before the weather got even warmer so I made an appointment online. I even called a week before to confirm and make sure we were good to go; they confirmed. However as soon as I walk in, the lady starts explaining that goldendoodles take a long time so they might not have time to groom her. She stated she tried to call me earlier but that I didn't answer. On my own life, I did not have a single call or voicemail from them. She then starts to say that I may need additionally packages due to her breed; let me just put it out there that, when you make an online appointment you have to have an account and provide phone numbers, breed info, weight, sex, etc. none of their "fine print" is made known. I'm already frustrated but trying to go with it, then she she notices our dog is in heat and immediately tells me there's no way they can work on her because it's a risk. I asked why this wasn't disclosed when I made an appointment- no real answer. I also asked why this is a risk- no real explanation. I followed up with the manager as well and still could not get solid reason for why we were denied service but either way I now understand why I pay more money for real groomers and am happy to do so going forward. Fortunately I got her in elsewhere the next day without any fuss. I highly recommend any other groomer! read more

So I've been searching for a good place to get my black Labrador retriever groomed. She is a guide dog and I am legally blind. I called Petco and they told me it would be $52 for grooming which included nails, anal expression, ears cleaned and a blowout which the lady said was important for black lab due to the shedding. I won hundred percent was happy about that and the price which is only gonna be $52. However, when I came in the price was a little different and it did not include blowout. I didn't think anything of it since I was already here and my guide dog needed a bath. Then this woman proceeded to remove the collar and leash, and say here's your dogs harness. From that I realize she didn't realize I was legally blind, and she didn't realize that, I had already taken the harness off and put it aside. No big deal. I mention this because it's important. I sat down to wait for her since I really couldn't go anywhere without my guide. After a few minutes I heard a dog scrambling all over the place. I was concerned it was my dog and a woman in there. was shouting to the dog to stop! And she was yelling, stop it, stop it, you're only making this harder on all of us. And I was really concerned for the dog, and was worried that they treat their dogs like this at all. Then I became concerned that it was my dog, and if my dog was acting like that, what was going on. I mean my guide dog is very sweet, steady, and gentle. I've never seen her act nervous or startled. If she doesn't like something she sits down and tucks her tail. So scrabbling made me extremely concerned. I mean she doesn't even mind fireworks. She's been socialized to all kinds of different things, including regular grooming. They began having a very loud conversation about fake service animals and the woman who was yelling stop was the one who was mainly commenting and talking about fake service animals versus emotional support, animals, and all the things. She sounded pretty disgusted. I was confused because my dog is a genuine service animal certified from Guide dogs of the blind. She's gone through a lot of training to be a guide dog and so I was kind of frustrated and along with the scrabbling I was very concerned. But I didn't know exactly where the door was and I didn't want to trip over anything so I called. But as soon as somebody came to answer the phone I hung up and asked the woman if that was my dog scrambling back there. she said no very sharply with a lot of attitude. I wasn't 100% sure if it was my dog or if she was just saying no to say no. I had to call a family member who was close by thankfully to come and check out the situation. since I am legally blind, I really couldn't see through the windows to tell what was going on. According to my sister the poor dog that was scrambling and scared look like some kind of silky or Yorky terrier. they then started bagging on a lot of customers. It seemed like there was a new person training today and they were explaining all the ins and outs of Grooming but it was mostly talking crap about how people ask for certain haircuts and how certain care cuts aren't really a thing and what what it means when somebody says terrier and a lot of it was pretty negative I have to say. So, with all that being said, I will never bring my dog here again. However, I have to say that the woman who groomed my dog, who was apparently separate from all these other women was Heaven, and she did a great job. I can say that my dog didn't come out of there, scared, nervous or worried and so I am grateful to heaven for doing a great job with my dog. read more
