I brought Kippington to Petco in Smithfield again. I asked that they clip his hair (Yorkies have hair) very very short for the start of warm weather. They did a wonderful job. He looks excellent. This Petco location is positively outstanding. Every worker seems happy and upbeat. A group of them arrived right before 8 a.m. (Kip and I were waiting for the store to open.) Been using PETCO and Vetco for grooming for many years and was always satisfied until today. Our 11 year old dog recently went on Prozac for anxiety that has been getting worse with age. She's been on it about six weeks now. Drove half hour to have her groomed at the Smithfield, R.I. location today only to be told she can't be groomed there while on Prozac. What? So she can never be groomed again? Canceled a membership for both my dog and cat that we have had for years. Absolutely ridiculous! Took her to PetSmart instead. Called ahead. No issue with her being on Prozac. You lost a long time customer PETCO! I understand not being able to bring her in on a sedative but this is a long term medication not a PRN. read more

If I could rate 0/5, I would. To start with, my boyfriend has done military training the past 11 years. We brought our lab puppy to be groomed as our normal groomer hasn't had any availability lately. Originally we were going to use the self wash, until Kait met our dog and stated she would love to groom her. I should've just said no and continued on what I was originally planning to do by self washing but against my better judgment said yes. My boyfriend educated her on how to use the correction collar considering she almost strangled our dog with it straight from the jump. Once she was properly educated, she took her out back. We were told it would be about an hour and a half so we left to run errands. Our lab puppy, who is normally very calm came out absolutely TERRIFIED and I don't take that word lightly. Kait and whoever else was working with her tied the leash to the chain and wrapped a bandana to it to try and hide what they did to her. The collar was hugged against her neck enough where they could've strangled her. Our leash, which I've put a picture below, now has a massive knot in the middle from what they've done and is unable to be taken out from how tight it is. All because they were trying to break our collar and make it unusable because they advertise themselves as a fluffy training company but sell those same collars three aisles over. Our dogs haircut looks awful as well. Her tail cut looks ugly. Next time I'm going to just wait for our normal groomer but just beware they will destroy your property if it isn't a flat collar or a harness. read more

If you want to be penalized for going in to the store to purchase their product with cash verses putting your debit/credit card information online (and picking up or shipping the product o your home) then this is the company for you! Reason for this review...I needed two cat calming collars ASAP and checked Petco's site for a pack of two cat calming collars. I chose Comfort Zone 2 pack for $24.98 (see photo showing the product description and box online). Please note: There was no disclaimer that the price online was cheaper OR that purchasing in store was going to be more money OR that the company does not honor the online price, if charged differently in store. So after checking everything out, I sent my boyfriend to pick up the collars since he was going to be right next door to the Petco location that I had looked at for the collars and the fact that I needed them ASAP. I told him that after tax they would be $26.73 (see photo of the online amount after tax). He came back and said that he was charged $41.72 (see photo of the receipt). Seeing that he was charged 52% more than what was stated online, I immediately called customer service to explain what happened and see about getting my $14.99 difference back. While the customer service representative on the phone was cordial. She tried to explain that this overcharged amount was accurate because I purchased a 2 pack and the price I was seeing online was for only one collar. I corrected her and said that I was currently looking at the product online and it clearly said "pack of two" for $24.98, (said that I would send her a copy of the add if she didn't see it online herself) then she tried to say it was always cheaper to buy items online verses in the store. I corrected her again and said no where on the site or product page does it state product online is cheaper verses in store. It only has states that if I auto refill, then it's cheaper. She kept putting me on hold and came back to say that the only thing she could offer me was a $10 reward credit for my inconvenience (not even the amount they overcharged me for!) and I was welcome to buy the product online for the cheaper price and make another trip up to the store to pick it up or I could have it shipped to me and then I could easily return the overcharged one for a refund....seriously... what??? Not only is this inconvenient, it's flat out stealing from the consumer and not at trying to hide it. Where in the world is a $10 reward (which is bogus "money" to them) make up for the $14.99 actual cash, help for my "inconvenience"!?... seriously... keeping my money and the asking me to spend more so I could use my "$10 reward " not to mention the time to go back to the store, let alone the gas spent to make TWO trips, just so I can pick up an online order for the exact same product I originally bought in person. I've been a good customer to Petco, not only did I previously participate in their rewards program when I saw a deal or needed something quickly and while I have purchased things online (especially during Covid) but I took my 2 cats to the onsite vet clinic. Sadly that will no longer be the case. I'll no longer be using their vet service or shopping in person or online, not if it's clearly been explained to me that I'm going to be penalized for shopping "instore" with cash verses online with debit/credit card information. First time in here and I was genuinely impressed. Very clean and organized. Decent prices throughout. Staff was welcoming when I walked in and helpful as I was looking for a replacement filter for my fish tank. I ended up having to do a return/exchange and it was extremely simple. I think I may return to Pet Co as opposed to Pets Mart from now on as they made the return very simple and staff was great! They also had some pets such as a great assortment of fish (tropical and freshwater), guinea pigs, hampsters, mice, and ferrets. They also had a treat bar for dogs in the front which was quite unique! Definitely check it out if you have any pets or are in the market for a pet! They also appear to have an on site animal hospital/veterinarian as well as an on site grooming salon- which is amazing! read more

Groomer did not feel comfortable or was experienced enough to give my dog a bath and cut. Not the best self bathin experience, my German Shepard hates baths and was a handful this particular day. I took her in for her nails trimmed and then I did a self bath. As I was halfway done with the bath she freaked out, got her head out of the lasso and then she immediately jumped right out of the tub . . . and proceeded directly to the front doors, which btw open up by sensing a presence. Since she's 90 lbs, she was big enough that the front doors opened up, and she darted out of the store and right into the parking lot!! I was mortified that the doors just opened up and I was scared that she was going to get hit by a passing vehicle! I ran out after her screaming and then an employee came to help me corral her. Needless to say the door design is not very safe and should be addressed! read more

We love this Petco! My family and I are "regulars" in this store. In fact, we're here so often that we've gotten to know many of the staff members. They have always been extremely helpful and knowledge whenever we've needed any info or advice. Griz and Marcus in the aquatics department do an excellent job of keeping both the fresh and saltwater tanks stocked with interesting species. We have numerous aquariums at home (about 550 gallons' worth, including fresh, brackish, and salt/reef tanks) and we always seem to find something new and interesting here whenever we visit. We've visited many Petco locations, I'd even say most in our area, and have seldom encountered any with such a well stocked saltwater section. We've even picked up a few nice coral frags here, which I'd never have imagined Petco to carry. They consistently have any supplies and equipment we need in stock and ready to go. We've been very impressed with how clean and orderly this store is. This is a fairly large location, and everything is very brightly lit and well kept. The crew clearly takes pride in their store and it shows. Though we haven't yet used any of the training or grooming services, we've always noted the personnel who staff those areas to be friendly and helpful as well. While all of the staff members are quite pleasant over the phone and in person, the quality of care and communication lies somewhere between negligence and incompetence. The cliff notes version: brought my pet in for routine tests and when an abnormality presented itself (right before the vet went on vacation) I received the alarming news but no follow up or protocols to educate myself. I took my dog in for tests, and communication continued to become more confusing, and terrifying. Unable to clearly communicate what might be wrong, or how to approach treatment, I was given different information based on who I spoke to - and pricing for tests/treatments were all very shady. Appointments became confusing and expensive tests and supplements were recommended - time and time again my questions were not clearly answered and options were not clearly communicated. All in all, I've never experienced a lack of trust like I do now. At this point, I don't know if my pet's health is in danger, or if this vet just likes to run a bunch of tests. It could go either way but what I know for sure is the lack of care and communication is so upsetting I can't imagine letting anyone go through the roller coaster of anxiety I've experienced over the past 60 days. Incompetent assholes. Took my dog to the vet on Tuesday so his rabies would be updated for his grooming today. Get into the groomers and the fucking vet didn't update shots in the system. They try telling me that the Vetco inside the petco has nothing to do with petco. They all take the Petco's vital care and you book appointments for everything through the Petco website. Wasted My time and 45 minutes of driving for incompetence. Last time they shaved my poor dog bald and didn't follow any instructions. I was giving them one more shot. NEVER AGAIN. read more

We were so excited to see that Petco was coming to a plaza so close to our house! We shopped there yesterday. Store is pretty big. Staff was super friendly and available to help from questions on products to location of products in the store. Love that there is a self-wash station, and doggie treat "bar." Brought my pup to use the self wash dog station and it is hands down amazing!!!! So much easier than washing at home in the tub, and they supply everything you need, even brushes, and you don't have to clean up after yourself. Best part is the price. 10$ for unlimited time in the tub. Shampoo smells good and they even have conditioner and both high and low speed dryers.... will definitely go back! read more

Worst Vetco care center experience ever. Made a reservation but no one came to examine our pet for 20+ minutes, and the receptionist said it might take another 20+ minutes since the vet is busy on helping other sick pets and they are behind schedule. It is reasonable and we could totally understand. The receptionist called us after another 20ish minutes, and when we arrived again after 10 minutes, he told us that it is too late and we have to reschedule the visit. I asked if it is possible to reschedule it to later today since we would love to see if our pet is doing okay, but he said, once again, they are behind schedule and cannot do it today, and since sneezing is not an emergency, the vet need to help other pets with emergency. What is the whole point of making an reservation at first place? If you don't have enough people to take care of your customers, don't open up the slot, call your scheduled customer to explain things instead of just letting them stand by. Go find another petco with veto care hospital, would not recommend this one. read more

Wanted to leave a thank you for the Groomers at this location! My dog is extremely nervous about getting groomed, like I have to drag him inside from the parking lot. The girls here were so nice to him and it was a good first visit. He was a little fidgety while they were finishing up his haircut and got a small, tiny, little cut. They baby-ed him exactly like I would have and he was totally fine. I appreciated how professional and sweet they were about that situation too. We'll def be back! read more

Horrible haircut. My wheaten terrier was ruined by this groomer. He was matted from an extended stay at the kennel and I expected a short cut but I was stunned when I picked him up. I will never go there again. What a disgrace! My dog looks ridiculous and has cuts all over his body from the clippers. read more

the bald man with a ton of ear piercings is extremely rude. the ferrets cage is gross and doesn't looked clean from when i came the last time 2 week. there food bowl was mushy from food alll on the bottom and water was empty. poor animals. seriously need to do better or they will be in awful health. as for the man, he should be fired talked to me in a extremely rude voice and was just on his phone. do better. won't be here again other than to check on those poor ferrets. read more
