They are also a small boutique, but I didn't shop. (The selection is fairly small.) My review is based on the grooming. The space is neat and organized. It smells good inside. The staff is friendly. There are lots of add-ons: I chose specialty cut & the details (teeth brushing, nail filing) which did Drive up the price. ($45 became $71) I will probably not do the extra details every time, but I do love that it only took 1.5 hours vs 3 or more at other places. This also means that they conditioned and brushed out her legs instead of shaving them for her schnauzer cut. My dog was tired but happy when I picked her up... and very proud of herself! Some things to keep in mind: Wednesday is their only long day and the latest grooming appt is 5pm. I booked my next one two months in advance. Tips are cash or check only! When I made the appt for my Maine Coon to be groomed i was informed he would be bathed and brushed, ears cleaned, nails trimmed and he would be shaved into a "lion's cut" as per the description of the full service grooming package i was booked and ultimately paid for. Upon drop off i was told everything from the back of his front legs all the way to his sanitary area would be shaved. I agreed and thanked her for the explanation. When I arrived to pick him up i paid for the full service BEFORE they brought him upstairs to me, my mistake. When we arrived home i noted he smelled nice and clean and his ears were visibly cleaner, other than that you could not tell he had been to the groomers! His fur was still very lengthy on his entire belly from the back of his from legs all the way to his sanitary area. He had not been trimmed let alone shaved what so ever. I called to inquire and clarify the expected services and was told he was shaved and if i wasn't satisfied with it to bring him back in. I certainly was not about to bring him back after being charged $164.50 simply out of fear of what he may look like the next time after I had made the complaint. I am happy to read to many people have had positive experiences with this establishment, unfortunately I am NOT one of them. I feel as though they set the expectations for me two separate times, both on the phone and in person and I paid the full price for services that were not in fact completed. Harley (our German Shepherd mix) has never been to a groomer, or gotten her nails professionally trimmed and filed. She was scared and we were nervous as well with how she would handle being around strangers. She seemed to take well to the girls at the Smithfield location, and they gave her constant reassurance throughout the process. The staff also made it clear that they were able clip but not file some of her nails, as Harley was scared, which was more than we could ever ask for. Again, this was our pup's first time in this situation, so we were beyond thrilled with the professionalism and care given to our fur baby, and us too. Brooke was wonderful with my Moose (10lb Shih Tzu). Today was his very first time at DTails. He was initially nervous & shaking. However when I picked him up he seemed quite comfortable in Brooke's arms. Moose can be fidgety but no knicks !! Upon entering the salon ,I was impressed with the decor and cleanliness of the salon. I felt I was in the Beverly Hills salon for animals. I met with Karissa aka the cat whisper. Cleo my persian is very timid and once Karissa held her she was instantly relaxed. I knew that she would be in good hands. Once I picked her up, I instantly knew this was our new go to place. Karissa was holding her and Cleo didn't want to leave her. Her cut was amazing and Cleo had her first bath and did amazing and smells so good. We have been bringing our dogs here for several years. Their quality of service has consistently degraded, their pricing has increased in mysterious ways (what day is your appointment, what time is your appointment, HAS IT BEEN LONGER THAN 5 WEEKS SINCE THE LAST GROOMING IS THE NEWEST UP-CHARGE). I tip the groomers $20 per dog - regardless if they are short-haired and don't need grooming. This owner has outgrown her britches and ruined a good business she started. Such a pity. read more

If there was a zero star that's what they would get. Please save your dog the torture and don't bring them here. My dog was shaved to the skin. They said he said severe matting, which yes, there was some,but not to the degree they said. If you are curious I'll show pictures. They cut my dog to the point where my little dog licks his wounds. He is now frightened, hurt and shaved to the skin. He is unrecognizable and scared. When we refused to pay the 400 dollars for a shave, they refused to give back our dog (keep in mind they ask for credit info beforehand). OVERPRICED! My golden doodle and yorkie have been groomed several times, each time at a different rate. In July we paid $256.50, in August $340. We were told the rate was increasing, but this last mobile grooming service on 10/8 came to $390.55 (without tip) for a regular grooming service! Our dogs were just groomed by DTails 5 weeks ago, therefore neither dog was matted or messy. I understand that mobile grooming costs more because of the convenience, but $225 for my 40 lb golden doodle is completely outrageous. My yorkie $145! He weighs about 20 lbs. Needless to say, with poor customer satisfaction and overpriced services, my dogs will not be groomed with this company any longer. I don't pay these prices for my own balayage, cut and blow out! read more

It is quite clear that this establishment is predatory with lack of focus in customer care and service. I had brought my ~5 month old giant schnoodle in for his scheduled first hair cut about a month ago and was told upon arrival that there would be no hair cut, and that he'd only be getting a bath, nail trim, quick dusting around the face and some clean up around his rear because a full hair cut right off the bat would be too over whelming. I appreciated their concern, but was quite shocked when the total price for something I'd easily be able to do myself was $120. I paid with no complaints and moved the hair cut out another month, the appointment scheduled today. I understand that small business owners must stay true to their cancelation policies, late fees, etc. D'Tails policy states that they will not take clients 10-minutes post their scheduled appointment. My appointment was at 7 AM, and we arrived at 7:11 AM. The girls at the front were less than polite in tone and ultimately unfriendly, and told me that they'd have to check with the groomer on staff to see if she'd be able to take him. We were denied for the hair cut, but able to get a bath and something along the lines of what he received at his first appointment. Online, service rates are erroneous, listed with a "+" sign next to the dollar amount allowing the establishment to price gouge customers post-service. If the business needs a flexibility component in their pricing structure, which I think is justified as dogs can arrive in any condition, they should post a range and not charge customers higher than the maximum. Out of the 2 services listed on the website that fit the description of what my dog received at both visits, I paid between $35 and $45 extra for the service. Perhaps the owner is not aware of the current state of the economy, but recessions generally impact customer base activity. I'm not one to generally scoff at price, but if this business continues this type of treatment of their customers alongside our nearing recession, I fear they will see a significant decline in business and new client influx. I recommend D'Tails to reassess the way they handle their clientele and be a little more cognizant on opportunities to maximize business. If your books are so full that a 1 minute window affects your daily activity, you may want to consider an additional groomer on shift. ALL clients should be treated well, but maybe those with breeds who generally need professional grooming ever 6-8 weeks should be provided a little more flexibility upon judgment, outside of the ambiguous terms stated on their website. I am just one customer, but I know there are many more like me who have doodles given the recent designer dog trend... and if this is how customers are treated, this business is missing out on a very strong market segment. After reading quite a few of these negative reviews, it seems that many other customers have had a similar experiences with the staff and policies at this facility. This might just be how they run the show, unfortunately. As I said, price is one thing, but I do expect a certain level of treatment as a customer. 2 appointments and $240 later, my dog has still not gotten a hair cut... read more

I brought my diabetic FIV+ cat in for grooming, because he can't really groom himself and sheds like crazy. He looked so much more comfortable and relaxed after Karissa took care of him. His back had been especially oily and raggedy looking, and now it's smooth and fluffy again.
