Brought him to the vet two and half days later and found out he has a heart condition that when under stress caused his body to shut down. He didn't eat, drink and had no temperature for 2 days then he was gone just like that. If you love your animal and haven't had they groomed outside of your house keep it that way because who knows what stressful things they did in there. All about the money and no compassion. $200 spent plus another $900 at the vet and they couldn't save him because they couldn't get a temperature reading. He was never the same after the service and he's never coming back. We made the mistake of having your services. Sure this might have happened with another company but it happened with this one. She was clear that they have phased out accepting senior dogs who haven't been their clients. She also said I needed several days of daycare to assess temperament. It sounds like there may be some disconnects between this company's policies and what their reps say. This can probably be remedied with some training. That said, I'm glad I can kick off Shaggy Dog Spa's Yelp existence with a postive review! The short review: Unless I can find a comparable place with cheaper prices, I will definitely be bringing my pooch back to Shaggy Dog at least once a year. Now the deets... I had been searching for months for a trusted, experienced groomer for my beloved Lhasa. I spoil him rotten, so I was concerned about entrusting him to someone else to cut and wash him. I found Shaggy Dog because I bring him to Abbott Valley Vet right above. I later learned that I knew someone who was working there seasonally, so if she was there, it had to be a decent place (she loves her dogs as much as I love mine). I finally sucked it up and called to make an appointment. I kept getting voicemail, so I left a message requesting a call back. It did take about a day for the owner to call me back, but it is a small business, so that is forgiveable. I was able to get an appointment that same week. When I brought my dog in, I was greeted by the owner and one other employee, both of who gushed over my pub. I felt he would be well-attended there. The owner asked how I would like him groomed, and I filled out a form with all of his information. I really only needed him cut, but I was advised that the cut would look better if he was bathed, so I agreed to that; no nail clipping though. She told me he would be ready within three hours, and I requested that she call me when he was done so I could come get him (I was worried about him being in a crate for a long time since he is not used to it). I received a call in two hours that he was ready. And ready he was! He looked so handsome and perfect; I have never seen him so white! He came out of the grooming room with his tail wagging. I love that she cut him to maintain his breed characteristics and added a fire hydrant printed scarf around his neck. She also cut around his eyes (a very difficult area) so well. Oh, and he smelled amazing! I'm not sure what shampoo they use, but the smell lingers for weeks -- even after another bath. My one con is that she didn't cut him short enough, which was most likely a misunderstanding. We clip him really short to keep the time between cuts to a maximum, but it is unusual for his breed to be that short. The cost? $40 for a bath, cut and groom. The price also would have included nail clipping if I had let her do it -- maybe next time since I now know they can be trusted. The staff at Shaggy Dog Spa are friendly, helpful and, most importantly, love dogs. I highly recommend them.
