We have a golden doodle and thought we'd give Village Paws a try for grooming since our regular roomer wasn't available. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We stopped by their location on Friday to have a look and find out some details. We were told they had opening the following week and a bath and grooming would take about 2 hours.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We called the following Monday and booked a slot for 9:00 AM on Wednesday. On Wednesady we arrived before they opened at 9:00 AM and were the first client there. We checked in and provided a photograph of the dog with the cut we wanted. They then told us he would be done in 4 hours, maybe 3, but would call us 20 minutes before he was ready. [[HIGHLIGHT]]As we hadn't received any call by 12:00 noon (3 hours later) we called to check of the status and were told he was ready for pick-up. So much for the 20 minute advance notice.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The end result was his cut was a whole lot shorter than we requested and his chest and inner thighs were almost bare. In looking him over once we got home I discovered a tick on his inner thigh that was clearly visible due to the lack of fur in that area. I'm confident he had the tick on him before we arrived at the groomer but would have thought they would have seen it and removed it during the grooming. Granted they were $16.00 cheaper than our regular goormer but certainly not worth it considering the excessive amount of time the dog had to be there, lack of the call to let us know he'd be ready pick-up in 20 minutes and the almost overall buzz cut he receiced. Fortunately it will grow back given time. Needless to say we will not be back. read more

I debated about posting this. And I honestly don't even know where to begin, but after taking with other Maine Coon owners, I won't be returning. I took my cat here on Sunday for a cat only appointment. I have a Maine Coon cat and was looking to have a lion cut for the season. I was clear that he hadn't been to a professional groomer before (He's just over a year) and that he could be spicy when trimming his back end. I was told his cut would take about two hours, so I stayed in the area as I lived a half hour away. I came back at pick-up time, and he was in his carrier and wasn't happy as I suspected he wouldn't be. I was then told there was no charge because she couldn't complete the job because he was too upset/spicy and suggested I return after getting him sedated at another date. I wasn't sure why they didn't bother to call me, As he could have been nervous, and perhaps I could have helped hold him or something? My cat was definitely not happy - even hissing at me, which he has never done before. From what I could see in the carrier, he looked like the majority had been completed - and thought maybe I would only have to touch up a few spots. They refused to charge me, but I felt bad, as I could see cuts on the groomer's arms, so I at least gave a tip for what they did. Once I got him into the car, I didn't know if I should laugh or cry. My cat avoided me like the plague the whole day/night I noticed uneven "rake marks" from the shaver, and after a closer review, I found a number of nicks that would have set my cat off and may have caused his aggressive behaviors. I have an elderly cat who is having trouble grooming herself, lately she won't clean her private parts at all causing a smelly odor. The vet said she is healthy and most likely just having some arthritis issues preventing her to groom properly. I decided to call Village Paws to get her groomed. I dropped her off at 10am, and they told me she would be all set around 1pm. They asked to see her rabies vaccination, and asked me a few questions. Then the lady even pet her and said hi which I thought was sweet. She wasn't just in a rush it genuinely seemed like she cared. I was a little nervous leaving her but when I came back to get her they said she did great. I'm assuming it's because of their knowledge and skills. It can't be that easy to groom a cat. She smells, looks, and feels great! They even shaved some fur around her private area to prevent any build up again then applied a new seresto collar I bought for her. I will definitely be taking Misty back here to be groomed. They were nice, attentive, friendly, and the price was very reasonable even with a tip. The place is cute and clean. read more

1. The place is dirty and disgusting. 2. They don't communicate with their customers if they are not going to meet the pickup time that they set. 3. They did not complete the services they were paid for (never trimmed nails as agreed upon) 4. They lied to me about the conversation they had with my wife. When I became irate because of the way they were treating us, they called my wife and insulted me. 5. Christine initially told me that they had to bathe my dog twice because she "sat in pee". She later claimed that the dog only stood in pee. 6. I refused to pay because they wasted our time by making us make multiple trips to pick up. I had to leave work because they could not meet their deadline and my wife had to pick up our kids. 7. Christine held my dog hostage until I paid them. Jules called the police. I pretty much had no choice but to pay them for this horrible experience. Now I've had another groomer look at my dog and says that they gave her clipper-burn, and I had to use Zymox to give the dog a proper bath because they caused a lot of skin irritation. Do not go to these horrible people. They dont care about the dogs or their customers. read more

We run a dog rescue. Sometimes the babies come in off of transport ...er... in need of a bit of TLC. I am busy with a million things and cannot always physically wash a dog (due to a back injury) They are SO caring ...SO compassionate and patient. These dogs are coming from; at times; deplorable conditions. they can be afraid and filthy. Chris and Jules are so caring , so compassionate, so patient and reassuring to our pups and dogs. It's just another reason that they are the only groomers ALLOWED to touch the rescues dogs...and mine as well! PS More affordable and they do a WONDERFUL job! read more

I love spoiling my puppy and do my best to keep her healthy and happy! She is my first dog so I was hesitant to make a grooming appointment because I've read a case before of dogs who were mistreated/ groomed too roughly that they ended up dying from stress. Instead of picking a random place, I asked a friend who loves& is experienced with dogs for a recommendation. She recommended Amy at Village Paws who I've been to twice now--and recommend to anyone else! Everytime I pick up my pup she looks groomed and is her usual happy self! For $45 she gets a trim wherever is needed (usually just the butt wings I call it lol), teeth brushed, a good washing, a solid brushing, nails trimmed, and glands cleaned in her bottom so she isn't scooting around on the carpet.. Only thing that might be a problem for anyone is they only accept cash at the moment since their debit machine is down. I stopped in to Village Paws in Smithfield this morning desperate to get my puppy's nails trimmed with the grinder. I didn't have an appointment and a sign on the door indicated that they were no longer able to handle walk-ins, but I called and they told me to come right in anyway. I had previously been to several groomers who were unable to grind my puppy's nails due to her nervousness. The groomers at Village Paws took their time with her and kept reassuring her which calmed her down and they were able to get it done. I can't thank them enough for their kindness and willingness to stop what they were doing to help me. I highly recommend Village Paws to anyone looking for compassionate and caring groomers. I first took my pup to Village Paws, when they were doing a fundraiser for shelter pups. They were recommended by a friend and I had just moved to the area. He just had a bath but I was very satisfied. I have had him back 3 or 4 times since then for a full groom. He's a 13 year old Shih Tzu and he knows when he doesn't like a person or place and will shake and not want to go. He has never done that with Village Paws and I have always been very happy, not just with the grooming, but also with the love they give my little guy and all they do for homeless pups. read more

I've just read a bad review about All4Paws in Johnston. I know the owners and find it very hard to understand. No one goes into dog grooming without a ridiculous amount of love for animals. It's just not possible to work day in and day out with dogs and not adore them. When they are brought in they receive so much affection, kisses, cuddles, sometimes we sing to them and occasionally we dance with them. Standard grooming practice in the case of any suggestion of injury is to tell the owner to go to their own vet at the groomers expense. You hope it never happens but you have to have these things in place. Just like homeowners insurance, you hope the house never burns down but you have to have it in place. I'm really hoping that this customer understands that is not only the owner who is being punished with a bad review but there are staff members who worry about their jobs and reputation. It is a small, women-owned business and I would respectfully ask the customer to please stop these reviews. If your vet acknowledged that there was an injury I know that the bill would be covered. I am SO glad I found this place. They had a sign for free nail trims outside, and I had recently been feeling exhausted from paying our usual groomer $12 (not including tip) for nail trims. So we figured why not give this place a try! The two nicest ladies helped us out and cut my rather ill-behaved Vizsla's nails. Very rude and unpleasant experience today!! We have brought our dogs there several times previously with great experiences however today we saw the ugly side to the business owner. Our Poodle hadn't been since her puppies were homed not long ago. The woman asked why our dog hadn't been in and when my husband told her about the puppies, she climbed up on her high horse, lectured my husband on breeding dogs and my husband was told to leave and not come back with ANY of our dogs! I have two dogs one of which has been going to village paws for the last two years for her nails and the other a very large 5 month puppy who is working on his social skills. Jax our puppy has had some anxiety while he acclimates to new people, this morning i had hoped for a nail trim and bath but wasn't entirely sure if we were even going to get his nails done because we are still working on his social skills with humans. The girls were so good with him they didn't rush him they even sat on the floor with him gave him cookies and really let him get comfortable before they got down to business. This means the world to me it shows how much they care! Because of their patience and knowledge with dogs we were not only able to get his nails trimmed but he also had a bath and let them blow dry/brush him!!! We can't wait for our next visit! I found Village Paws on Yelp, then was recommended by our local vet to check it out. After only seeing 1 review on Yelp, I was a bit skeptical but on Facebook they seemed to have a ton of really good reviews so I figured I'd give them a shot. My pup is a tiny American Eskimo and when I brought him in, he was a big fur ball. When he left, over 2 hours later, he was cut nice and short (how I wanted), nails were trimmed and he looked so cute! So why only the 3 star rating? Mainly the time. 2 hours is a long time to wait for such a small dog. I expected 1 hour maybe 1.5 but 2 seemed longer than what his previous groomer for the same cut. I also didn't receive a call back letting me know he was ready. I actually had to call and check in so God only knows how long he would have been there for. I also didn't like how I was a new client and wasn't asked for ANY vet records, especially proving that he got his rabies shot. This means that any dog that goes there could have rabies and can spread that plus other doggie germs easily to others! That was a huge turn off. Lastly, they forgot to put my pup's seresto collar back on. I had to return back to grab it which was just a hassle. The customer service was nice. One owner was a little straight to the point while another popped out and was very friendly. The gentleman who worked there also seemed nice as well. Overall, they did go an good job with the cut but I'm still a little scared about them not asking for vaccine records and the wait time seemed way too long for such a small pup. This place is new so it has some room for improvement! I'm sure they'll get all the kinks worked out. PS. I'm pretty sure they crate dogs here too so if you don't like that this wouldn't be the spot for you. read more

I am APPALLED with the way my beautiful dog was groomed. I had specifically asked for my labradoodle to NOT be cut short and left fluffy. They decided to shave him so disgustingly that when I came home with my pup my daughter started to cry. I can't even recognize my dog anymore. They should be ashamed of themselves. If you love your dog do NOT take your dog here. And not to mention the grooming service was so awful and the people were so rude. It was not worth a penny. I am SO disgusted with this place. First time here and will be a happy repeat customer. Staff was pleasant on the phone, got an appointment just a few short days later, after working hours, so appreciated their flexibility. My puppy is a very hyper 10 months old and they only took one hour to groom him and gave him breaks to play with their baby goat in between. He loved the groomer and place and did not want to leave! Gave them my business for going 3 years. We have 5 dogs, two males (one a rescue) and three females. I never made a secret that we had bred the females before. In fact one of the first questions they would ask me was " is she in heat? Has she just have puppies? Went to bring my female yesterday and was told I was a "Breeder" and I wasn't welcome. As I I couldn't tell by the way she spit the word "breeder" It really don't care it's her business she can do what she wants. Brought my dog here twice. The first time, as soon as I walked in my gut told me it was a bad idea. The place is a mess, fur flying everywhere. Looks like it hasn't been swept in months.The owner and her staff barely greet you when you walk in. It is so loud from all the dryers in the back, it felt so chaotic. The second time, my dog was so scared to go in the back, she pulled not to go. It was my fault for not trusting my instinct. When I returned to pick her up, while I waited, I overheard the terrible way the dogs were being spoken to. I could hear the owner and staff making mean comments to the dogs and snapping at them to stay still. I felt so awful that I brought my dog there again. Their prices are cheap , probably because they don't do a great job of grooming them at all either. I will never again subject my dog to that environment. They should be ashamed read more

Brought my 11-week-old Maltese pup in to Village Paws today for her first grooming. We loved the whole experience! Jules, Chrissy and the whole staff were warm and welcoming. Instead of owning that they did a horrendous job the owner has actually taken a stance to defend the wrong that was done. My dog like many others due to the extreme rain was yes in deed matted. My dog IS groomed every four weeks and I have receipts that I'd gladly post to prove that. My dog was shaven down in a disgusting manner WITHOUT MY CONSENT. That's unacceptable of any groomers. Was so grateful to find Village Paws for our big Newfoundland Lab mix. He's an older guy and they reassured us they would be gentle with him and have him out in 2 hours. He's got anxiety and arthritis so we were happy they were so accommodating. He comes home clean, nails clipped at a reasonable price.
