Amazing experience! I went in to get a few things for my puppy, and while there decided my son was ready for his own pet fish. Long story short, Jordon (I hope, I called trying to get her name) helped us pick the best beginner fish, find everything we need and gave my son the sweetest tall about what not to do to harm the fish. This included a comparison of how big our hearts vs a fish and it was extremely impactful. read more

This review is specifically about the grooming salon. The groomers here do an excellent job, and it's clear that they love pets. My dog gets excited and wriggly anytime we get near the counter, she enjoys her groomings so much. I have tried taking her to a couple other places in an attempt to support small businesses. However, they just don't do as good a job as Petco does, and she has come home with uneven fur and the occasional minor cut. The staff is extremely friendly, and at least for my little 15 lb dog, the prices are in line with other area groomers, and much lower than some of them. I ask for Elaine every time I make an appointment, and a lot of my neighbors have ended up switching from some of the local places to her, because she does such good work and is so good with the pups. As for the rest of the store, it's meh. Prices for most things are cheaper online, and they don't carry Taste of the Wild dog food, so I go to Mud Bay to buy that. (Pro tip - Mud Bay's prices for Taste of the Wild are about the same as online, without having to wait on shipping, if you almost run out of dog food, like I have before.) read more

Recently a friend tried to buy a harness clearly marked 4$ and was told that they couldn't sell it to her because the manager couldn't figure out how to override the price. In addition it seems like some of the people that work there are high sometimes, I'd go elsewhere! read more

My experience sucked! The biggest problem for me is that they do not have buggies for children to sit in!?! I was trying to shop while my two year old wanted to touch everything! He is used to sitting in a buggy while I push him around and shop. However, this bleeping store doesn't accommodate mother's with small children. UGH! By the time I made it to the register I was just plain mad! I so was desperate for the products that I went ahead and purchased them but that will be the last dollar I spend at that store. They do a great job grooming my Pomeranian. It takes about 2 hours and she always comes back smelling so good and cut perfectly. My groomer is Kasmier and she is amazing. Great prices too! read more

They have no parking and their products are overpriced when not on sale. But, wait. I have a story. I bought several bags of pet food here many months ago. When I unloaded my car, there was kibble all over the place. Then I noticed, one of the bags had been torn wide open and Petco had taped it up and put it on the shelf as a new item. This shocked me, especially on a food item. Petco happily took it back, but was confused why I was upset about it. If I was managing this store, I would not have sold the food in the opened bag period (Damaged goods). At a bare minimum, I would have red tagged it 50% off as damaged goods and let the buyers know what they were getting. Now, many months later, I was back at petco and low and behold, my returned taped up bag of pet food is still on the shelf at full price. Who manages this place? I mean really. On the plus side, the last 2x I was in the store the checkers seemed to be a little more pleasant. read more

I love this store, I really do. It's the only one within a reasonable distance that carries ferret supplies and, as I have one that's an incredibly picky eater, it's important. In addition to their wide variety of supplies for a wide variety of pets, the people who work there are really cool, friendly, helpful and nice. Every time I go in (which is often, having 5 little eating machines,) even when one of the employees doesn't recognize me, they're still really friendly, ask if I need help finding anything and are really cool. When someone does, they remember how many cats and ferrets I have, ask how they're doing, ask how the youngest ferret is adjusting, we share pics and videos. They're just awesome. I've adopted three ferrets from this location and I have to say that I've been really impressed every time. There are several employees that are walking encyclopedias of ferret knowledge and it's come in very handy. I've gotten advice on mundane things like potty training, but was also given some great, no nonsense advice on whether I should adopt a potentially deaf ferret (I did and, yes, he is deaf.) I had no idea that he was deaf or what the ramifications would be. How awesome that, rather than just shoving him off on someone, I was informed, counseled and given tips when I realized that I just could not leave without that baby. The only headscratcher that I have ever had here is when they moved to a new location and found that there are big columns.... right in front of some of the shelves. Not the best planning there, but the rest of the store more than makes up for it. read more

Not the friendliest and their customer service is lacking. I've been here a few times because it's close to my house. The last time I came I asked for assistance in fitting my dog with a collar because he is a small dog. They checked me out and said once they finish the checkout they would help. I paid and the man at the register tried fitting the collar on my dog and said it's too small and I would need one size larger. I said OK I will go grab the larger size. He said sorry he has to close down the register and can only return it but not exchange it even though a checked out literally a few seconds before. So I returned the dog tag and went to Mud Bay. Mud Bay is a little farther drive for me but it is cheaper than petco and has more hands on customer service. Will. It be returning to this Petco read more

The store itself is a four but it's getting a two due to the fact the grooming is a zero. They say my dog had nipped the groomers yet he doesn't nip anyone unless he mishandled. So that worries me that they have mishandled my dog or they just said that because they didn't want to handle him because he is sometimes a difficult dog to groom. Needless to say it's sad. They did however not charge me for what they did but they didn't get far with him for being there for a few hours. Not going back here for grooming and wouldn't recommend this place for your dog to get groomed. Best thing to do is find another groomers that's not here. read more

I have been taking my dog here for haircuts for 2 years now. Today is the first time I've ever been so upset and decided never to go back. I went to drop my dog off at her scheduled time, 12pm, the gal told me she is the only groomer in today and she has 5 other dogs before mine so she will be done by 6pm. 6pm! I scheduled this weeks ago. I spoke with the manager to see why they over book their staff and what we can do to solve my problem. He said that they will promo a rush on the haircut but I have to schedule her back. WHAT?! No, this is my scheduled time. Just absurd. read more

I like Petco in general. For my snake, not my cats. They usually have a great selection of herp care products and I can always rely on them to have plenty of frozen pinkys on hand! I've been disappointed, though, in their selection of premier pet foods. I like to feed my cat really good stuff and they've only got a few brands, none of which one of my cats really likes very much. (The other two will eat basically anything that's not nailed down, so they're perfectly happy with Royal Canin.) I do love their large selection of cat toys and trees. I got my last one from there and was really impressed with just how many they had available in-store! I've generally been happier with the service at Petco than I have been at Petsmart. It could be because I've been going to stores where they actually train their employees, but I've always had a lot of really good and thorough help from everyone I've talked to there. read more

My review is focused on their grooming department. I've been going to Petco to have my dog bathed, groomed and nails cut and filed for over 6 years. Depending on where I am I bounce between this location and the Petco in Southcenter. Both great facilities. The groomers are so gentle with my dog and she loves them, they usually quick but are great about setting expectations with you regarding how long they'll be so you can go do something else or run errands if the wait will be long - which I appreciate. read more

The groomers are very rude!!! I have been taking my dog there for a few years and have never had a warm encounter with them or the manager. They have poor manners and the costumer service skills are terrible. I walked out today with my dog not getting a haircut because they were frustrated due of the wait on the fax from our vet. The manager said to me, "I can't control technology.....maybe it would be easier if you drove there and got it", as she's watching me chase my 2 year old around with my dog in my arms. I witnessed one of the groomers yank a dog by the leash to get into the room with the kennels and yell at it. I WILL NEVER TAKE MY DOG THERE AGAIN AND NEITHER SHOULD YOU!!! read more

Don't let Elaine groom your dog at WS Petco! I wanted my Akita to have a bath and AKC show groom. I was told the only one who did grooming like that was Elaine,who was the very best groomer and I needed to wait 6 wks to get in for an appt for her as she only worked 1 Sat a month. I waited the 6 wks with happy expectation. I took my dog in and met Elaine, who gave off a "I know everything" presentation, but looked bewildered about how to do an AKC groom on an Akita. I questioned her about her anticipation, and she pretty much arrogantly shunned me off, thinking I was some weirdo who wanted my akita groomed, but nevertheless said "Don't worry, I know what I'm doing." I left, a with great worry about that she really didn't know what she was doing, I went back in and gave her an "out" saying "you know, if you're unsure about this, lets just skip the groom altogether and just give her a bath, it'll be fine." She became again very arrogantly angry and smirking, and said "oh, don't worry, I know what I'm doing." I left and came back when was called. Now there are 5 very distinguishing things about an Akita - their curly tails, their boxy muzzle, their little dark, almond-shaped eyes, their coloring, and their large furry mane/collar hair/fur. Well, Elaine cut off her mane, to make it the same length as the rest of her fur! She no longer had a mane! She also was not groomed properly on the other areas of her body - her underbelly was not cut, but still straggly. Her hind legs - part of each was cut differently than the other, and part was left not done on one, but was on the other. It was a mess. And when I picked her up, Elaine almost seemed to be smirking about the whole thing. I can't even stand to look at Elaine if I see her when I walk into Petco . I will never, ever ask for grooming at Petco in West Seattle - just a bath. My dog has lost her whole mane/ full collar wrap , one of the distinguishing attributes of an Akita and she does not have this for the winter. I only hope it grows back, as some dogs don't grow their hair back once it's butchered. I will continue to take my dog there for a regular bath, but will ask to not have Elaine handle her. And because of this incident, I do have to say that I probably will never ask for her to be groomed/cut there at all, I will skip that as it's not worth the heartache. The other folk there have always been extremely welcoming and great with my dog in handling and bathing her (this was the first time I asked specifically for a groom) , always letting me know how she did and that it was a pleasure to serve her. They do have some good other groomers it seems - as I have seen them work on some smaller dogs, but Elaine will never have my dog again, that's for sure! Chuck the Manager there is always friendly and helpful in serving me and my Akita, as well as the other retail staff that work there, so I will continue to go there for my dogs other supplies. read more

This review is for the Petco Grooming department specifically. I brought my 5 month old Yorkie to get groomed. I told the groomer, Nikki, that I wanted a short cut, and even showed her 2 pictures, and with my fingers the length I wanted. She was also supposed to be bathed, ears cleaned, nails cut and anal glands drained. When I came to pick my dog up, Nikki told me, "I gave her a punk rock cut " proudly. My dog was cut so choppy and uneven. She was too short on her face, and too long on her body. My dog was obviously not washed, still had goopies in her eyes and fur, and stank like she had been wet, but not washed. When I brought these issues to her attention she has a argumentative attitude, made excuses about her type of fur being at fault. During our conversation she felt the need to tell me multiple times that my dog (who I have papers for) is a mixed breed dog, and that's why her fur was cut unevenly. Her nails were also cut very jagged. She kept saying she was a mixed breed as to insult me, and made sure I knew she owned her own Yorkies. I wouldn't recommend going to get your dog groomed here, but if you do, be sure to get someone other than Nikki. The manager was finally called, he suggested I bring her back tomorrow to be fixed, but I'd never let them touch my dog again. read more

While i'm not a big fan of big chain boxstores, I was thouroghly impressed with the friendly staff. I purchased several new chew toys for my Boston Terrier who ate through them all in less than 10 minutes after bringing them home. I was pretty disappointed with the quality, so I returned to petco with receipt and destroyed toys in hand. I explained to the manager what happened, and she gave me a complete refund with absolutely no hassle. I used part of it to buy a more indestructible bone for my dog. Thanks Petco team! read more

This is my worst experience with a pet store ever. I brought my puppy to get her nails trimmed. This is her second time getting it trimmed so she is still scared and nervous about the table. The technician that helped me out seem like she was having a bad day and was stressed out. The way the tech was handling my puppy was extremely rough tech she was yelling at her because she was not calm. I assumed that pet technicians should know animal behavior. When a dog is stressed out in an unfamiliar situation you don't stress them out further by yelling and being physical, that will have the opposite effect. Not once did she try to calm her down by offering a treat or being gentle, but she went straight to the strong armed approach. I am glad I stayed and watched the whole ordeal or I wouldn't have believed how my puppy was getting treated. I am a regular at Mudbay and will continue to be so, I don't know what possessed me to go to Petco today, but I will never go here again. read more

Amazing customer service. I've been here multiple times, but I want to recognize Jen in particular. I came to buy genie cat litter refills, and had trouble loading a PALS reward to my account via phone. She took the time to assist me, and went above and beyond to troubleshoot a few different things. It didn't end up working, but she was able to apply a different reward that I had missed. She was great, (as was the other associate there). They were even able to help other customers while helping me, and I walked out extremely satisfied. Inventory selection here is mediocre (but it's not the largest store so that's expected), but simply outstanding customer service. Very happy, thank you Jen. read more

After being a Petco customer for many years, I have had one too many poor interactions with staff at the West Seattle location in particular. While waiting for the doors to open for a grooming appointment my dog had an accident. The stand at the door with bags was empty and my daughter had grabbed the leash without the bags attached. Less than a minute later, the "Regional Marketing Manager" unlocked the doors and scolded us in a very condescending voice "Do you take your dog on a walk without bags? You know we sell bags here." Along with several other comments. Obviously we should have had a bag, however, in the spirit of customer service I would expect a little grace and good humor. I told him I didn't appreciate the way he handled it and his response was "I'm sorry you took offense to what I said." No apology for the snarkiness or attitude. When I returned from the car with a bag to pick up the mess, he was just finishing cleaning it up. The groomer said he's the store manager and there is no one else in Seattle I can complain to. If that's the highest level of management in the area, I sure won't be giving them my business! I cancelled the grooming appointment and will never return to that store. read more

I was very disturbed to experience two of the employees being overtly abusive of the store's resident ferrets. I will NEVER shop here and am going to report this behavior to the store manager. My experience: Some friends and I made an impromptu stop at this Petco today in order to say hello to, and get some information about, ferrets. We initially spoke to an employee who was very friendly and directed us to their location. After finding the ferrets, I asked another employee if we could briefly visit with them. (While I don't buy creatures from pet stores -- I'm a firm believer in adoption -- my friends are thinking about purchasing a ferret and so thought it might be nice to briefly spend a bit of time with some.) Anyway, this second employee opened the ferrets' enclosure and stood with us while we all held/visited with them. While in my arms, this obviously excited, unbelievably sweet young ferret gave me a playful nip (I was NOT bothered, and it was NOT an aggressive bite). The employee then took the ferret from me, hit it (which teaches aggression, by the way), and then forcefully threw it back into the enclosure. And I mean forcefully; it nearly struck the other side of the glass enclosure. My friends and I were quite disturbed. We then began putting the other ferrets back in their enclosure because we wanted to get away from this person. The ferrets, understandably, didn't want to go back in (they kept trying to climb back out for more cuddles), so a second employee, who had been visiting with the first employee while we held the ferrets, picked them all up and threw them back in the enclosure the same way the first had. Again, this was not a toss, this was a forceful throw. It was disgusting. You could tell the ferrets were confused/made dizzy by this, which I'm sure was the employee's intention so they wouldn't try to get out while she was closing the door. My friends and I gasped when she did this and then really, really needed to leave. For better or worse, we didn't think much would change by yelling at these employees and so refrained from telling them what we thought. We thought the gasps spoke volumes, though. I'd now like to know; is it part of Petco training to forcefully throw creatures in order to make them dizzy and thereby avoid dealing with their behavior? The fact that both employees didn't seem to think anything was wrong with what they did tells me it's sanctioned in that environment. And I find that disgusting. Anyway, again, I will be complaining. Hopefully someone there will care. read more

I shop occasionally at this Petco and have found it lacking in some areas. When I look for Aqua Clear products they usually do not have what I need for a 20 gallon aquarium filter system. As for the comments "Holy cow does this place stink..Literally!!! I swear this Petco location reeked of death and BO...not cool", I've read your reviews, fella, and find you're quite prone to exaggeration. I have been shopping there for more than a decade and while I find there is an animal smell at times, it is not at all the way you describe. Instead of being nasty in the guise of entertainment, if I don't care for what I see, I take my business elsewhere. read more
