Mud bay is a great company. They have plenty of options for everything you could want. Although it is only high quality things. (But what's wrong with that) the staff are well educated and friendly. They have given me great recommendations. My dog is very shy and has grown to love our neighborhood mud bay and it's workers. This is a first. I'm reviewing a business that I've never been to. But I will, and soon. Yesterday, while gardening, I heard the unmistakable 'mew' of a kitten coming from the middle of a giant patch of blackberry bushes at the edge of my property. I ignored it at first. But after a couple of hours, I couldn't help myself. I wasn't happy about it, but I was going in with machete in hand (for the bramble, not the kitten). After a half hour of lacerating my forearms, I uncovered a giant pile of broken concrete. Again with the "mew"s. Now it's a high stakes game of pickup sticks (rocks?). Trauma all-around if I lose. I had removed about five hernia-inducing boulders when I realized that I hadn't heard a sound since I started. I pushed that thought out of my head and continued on. Very few people will ever know the oddly satisfying feeling of lifting up a rock and finding a kitten underneath. It's great! It's how how kittens should come into this world. It's even better when it's two of them. I hadn't come to the rescue of a stranded kitten. I had uncovered a litter of feral kittens. Hooray for me! And even better, they were too young to be away from their mother. And yes, I now know that I should have stopped there and waited too assess the situation. But I didn't know that at the time and I was in full rescue mode. As it turns out, this foundation rubble was the mother lode of kittens. Each chunk lifted after that produced yet another adorable, terrified and flea-infested feline. Six total. Well, seven, but I'll get to that later. Three smoky points, two black and one grey. Now I've just created a s***load of responsibility for myself. It's after six in the evening. The humane society is closed and I have no idea what to do. So, I go to my trusty interweb. That's where I first learned that I should have just minded my own business. Which, if you remember all the way back to the beginning of this review, is what I wanted to do in the first place. I have two cats of my own. So, I went straight to my local pet store where I get (used to get) my cat food and litter. I guess I just assumed that pet store employees would know something about this kind of situation. They didn't have jack for stock, information or resources. I might as well have been asking a McDonald's clerk what cut of beef makes for the best hamburgers (answer: 70% chuck, 30% brisket). After that, I realized that this is the future and I can just call pet stores before actually driving there. That's when I called Mud Bay (Yay! You made it this far! Everything before this is useless information. The actual review starts here.). I don't know with whom I talked, but she knew everything I needed to know and a little more than I wanted to know. She knew what to get, how to use it and who to contact. Awesome! I'm practically on my way when she tells me that she is out of one of the things that I need and that I can find it at the pet store down the road from them. Wow! A store that knows their stuff and actually puts my needs and the needs of the animals I'm caring for over their own bottom line. What country am I in? They could have let me drive down and buy most of the stuff and then let me know that they were out of one of those things. That would would have been the best short term move on their part. I still would have done business with them. But I wouldn't have written this long-winded, self-indulgent adulation and you wouldn't know that when you can't get a hold of a vet or the humane society; Mud Bay has the go-to peeps for your pet and varmintal needs. I came home with bottles and nipples and formula and flea combs and cigarettes (for me, not the kittens... and only one then I threw the pack away because I don"t smoke anymore) and what do I hear but a cringe-inducing 'mew' from the sticker bushes. Long story short... hehe... two hours later I found the last one. Another little grey one. It was dark and I used the noisiest of the rescued siblings to echo-locate as they called to each other. I've been to this location probably 5 or 6 times and have always been able to find what I needed. Today I had a few questions about certain products and Jaden (I asked her for her name before I left) was so nice and helpful with everything. I will definitely be coming here more often. read more

The people at the Burien Mud Bay are always great, I have asked a million questions, and they have always been promptly answered. I go there every time I need cat food, litter, or anything else kitty related. I would 100% recommend going there if you have a pet. read more

Mud Bay has entered my world over the past year and a half and has grown on me. Initially, I felt as if I was betraying Petco (my other fave pet place) but I have come to realize that this is MY DOG'S favorite store. Everything my Labrador Retriever loves is found at Mud Bay. The best thing about Mud Bay, for me, is that you can find the exact same thing at each location. Entering Mud Bay is like entering Whole Foods for your animal. If you need a specialized type of food or treat, Mud Bay is your place. As I was raising my dog from 15-weeks, I did a lot of reading about types of foods that would meet her needs. During my trip to Burien's Mud Bay, I took my dog, Poppy, into the store with me in search of a dog backpack. There was another friendly dog there and the employees gathered around to enjoy watching the two dogs play with one another. One employee asked if he could take pictures of my dog and went so far as to sit on the floor to play with Poppy! When it came time to choose Poppy's backpack, I was pleased the staff allowed me to try multiple sizes on her. Although Mud Bay didn't have a specific treat product that I purchase for her at another store, they were able to make recommendations that suited Poppy's dietary needs. The Burien location is taking care of business the right way and I'm happy to continue my patronage. read more

This is our goto place for pet stuff in Burien. What stands out here is the friendliness of the staff here. They will acknowledge you when you enter the store and found it very personable and approachable. Another thing that really stood out to me is they will offer to carry your heavier stuff to your car and help you out. If you're looking for a place for some pet stuff, this is a good choice just because of the service. read more

Every time I have gone into the Burien Store, the people working there have been very helpful with anything I needed and kind to my dogs. Most recently, I brought one of my dogs in to find a new harness that she could not slip out of. I had read online reviews and knew the manufacturer and type I was looking for, but I did not want to buy without making sure it would fit her. She is not a laid-back easy-going dog, so I really appreciated the staff person who helped me with trying on the harnesses, and by calming her with lamb lung treats. My dog is a coated Xoloitzcuintli with a deep chest and longish body, and the harness I expected would work was too small in one size and too large in the next size up. The Mud Bay employee suggested a different type of harness, which fit her much better. I was encouraged to walk her around the store to feel how it was going to work, which enabled me to buy the harness with confidence that it was exactly what I needed. read more

It's been a while since I've written a review. But I really feel that this mud bay deserves a shout out. The folks here are definitely worth going back again. They're so personable and helpful. We got 2 new pups and ran out of the food the old owners fed them. One of the associates went above and beyond to research what was in the original food since they didn't have it in stores. He gave us a handful of similar sample foods and the pups did great! The pups loved them. My boyfriend went back the next day and got some more food plus some treats and the same associate remembered and mentioned "Oh the goldendoodles!" LOVED how he remembered :) it's always our go to shop and it just gets better every time :) read more

This is a great lol pet store. They have good brands of food and healthy treats for dogs too. A few months ago I came in looking for a new food for my dog who has allergies. I love this MudBay location!! The staff here are so amazing. VERY knowledgeable, helpful and happy. No problem helping me load heavy cat litter into my car and giving my 3 cats treats to try!!!! I went here several times for my kitty, but I went in for my puppy recently. I said "she's itchy and I dont think its fleas" They said "she might have wheat allergies" I knew I had step into doggy paradise! They had food with out wheat, and all sorts of all meat treats, (she loves the lamb lungs and pork hearts) Kinda pricey, but I wanted her to not rip her hair out, and it looks like its working. I am very happy with the knowledgable staff and they just love Ginger. read more

Mud Bay is a great resource. Although the staff seems to come and go, everyone there has always been very helpful, super friendly and they know a lot about the products they sell. I had a really great experience today that I would like to share ; I called asking about dog flee treatments and the gentleman on the phone was very sweet and told me to come in and he would help me. I came in not knowing what products to use and I asked "Alex" for help and he showed me a couple different things and explained each product so I knew how to use it which I really liked because I felt really confident buying the products. I loved his happy attitude and willingness to help , at the check out stand he gave me a sample to help with my dogs skin and I really appreciated that. Excellent staff, always helpful. They genuinely seem happy to see everyone. And of course, they are happy to see the dogs. The prices are a little higher than I would prefer, and sometimes they don't have selection as broad as an online store. The store is clean and well lit, and the staff is knowledgeable and friendly. Just outside their door is another story, and probably outside their control. The sidewalk in front of Mud Bay is stained and trashy, and the parking spaces are very oily and filthy. I feel like I want to carry my dog into the store. Once inside, it's a great store. I've been going there for years, and never had a single bad experience. read more

I had the best retail experience of my life at the Burien location. The staff was exceptionally helpful with finding food for our very picky eater. They were able to tell us about the different foods and where they came from. You can tell they are passionate about what they do and that they love the babies they are helping. Hands down the best shopping trip I have ever had and they have samples for some of their products so you can see if your babies will like them. I will definitely be a lifetime shopper at this store. The staff are great here and it's easy for me to find what I need for kitty. I usually come in about once a week to get a couple cans of wet food for my cat as a supplement to her grain-free dry food and occasionally something else (cat grass, toy, covered litter box). The staff are always helpful but happy to let you browse and I appreciate their generosity with samples when trying something new. I'm enjoy trying new foods here and the cat has liked most of them (as long as they aren't fish). The food is a little pricier but you get well-trained staff and high quality products. Other products in their store are often comparable, I found a better covered litter box here cheaper than the big box store. I never get the feeling they're trying to upsell me. read more

I'm not sure where to even begin when it comes to how amazing this place is. Aside from having quality products at a reasonable price, it's their staff that truly sets this place apart from any other pet store. I was having a terrible day when I first overcame curiosity and took my puppy, Baloo, into this Mud Bay. We immediately were greeted with the most loving welcome by Bailey. She truly turned my day around and showed us so much love. Since then, we have been in over a dozen times and our experiences just keep getting better. In fact, any time my dog can tell we are close to Mud Bay she starts whining to go in! Bailey, thank you for just being you and caring so much about Baloo. Thank you for all of your advice and tips and constant words of encouragement. And thank you for helping reinforce all of Baloo's training whenever we come in. Alex #1, thank you for all of your tips on training and for just being all sorts of adorable. Alex #3, thank you for always being so sweet and for recommending The Painted Pooch. You saved us with this wonderful groomer! Kendra, than you for all of your help in explaining different types of treats and which ones would be the best for what we are looking for. I stopped in looking for a replacement for my dog's favorite toy ever. But they apparently no longer carry it. No worries: the staff was SO helpful and friendly. They wrote down the internal specs on the toy so I could see if the Mud Bay closer to my house could order it. I absolutely love the staff here. There's is never a question they can't answer and they will help you figure out what you need to make your pets happy. My pets are family so when I need advice on food or training they are always there to help. I have true several pet stores but none could ever stand up to this place. Mud Bay is as good as it gets! We need a fairly special food for our dog as she gets too 'fluffy' easily. She weighed 90 has now dropped to 60 and Fat Dog seems to sort of auto adjust. There are now several places I can get it but I've taken home moths from other places.....never from Mud Bay. read more

Our happy place is Mud Bay. The entire Burien team is beyond amazing and are super knowledgable, friendly and helpful. They create such a warm energy in the store it's hard not to smile. We love it so much we pretty much find a reason to go almost weekly at this point. As a co-op we love supporting a local business that cares about its staff, just as much as animals. Shout out to James and Marilyn who are always willing to go the extra mile and always listen and give advice, and the whole team who doesn't even bat an eye as we swoop in a few minutes before closing. Beyond service, they carry wonderful products, are always giving samples and have an open return policy to return anything you pet doesn't like! We've tried and returned many things without penalty and feel at ease knowing any returned items get donated to a local shelter.
