I was just going in for flea treatment. First time buying it. Online the price was 30 dollars. In the store when I went to buy it was 57 dollars. No receipt. To top it all I had been patiently waiting in line- and as soon as I got to the front the rep at the front tried to serve the people behind me first as tho I hadn't been waiting. Then I asked him for what I wanted- and he got confused- didn't go for what I wanted. After a lot of explanation we figured it out, but for a guy who works there you would think that he would be able to help someone who doesn't know anything about this stuff. Common sense is no longer common. Guy treated me inhumane. I recommend the business find someone better. Not that I think Petco is exactly humane either. Guy was overweight, had lots of hair on his shirt, had curly hair, tattoos, and was a real mvp in the department of needs improvement! read more

I purchased a baby male guinea pig at this location last night. Keep in mind these guinea pigs were marked at $5 off which I thought was strange but did not think twice about it as retail stores have promotions all the time. I took him home and put him in a cage I had set up next to my current guinea pigs. I woke up this morning and took him out. I noticed he had some black flakes on the white patch of his fur. I know this is a sign of fleas or mites so I took a closer look and noticed large scabs all over his sides and back beneath the fur. I decided I needed to return him not only because this could cause my current guinea pigs to get sick, but also because I thought he required medical assistance right away, and I know this Petco has a vet on site. I came in to return him, and Jason, a worker at this Petco tried to convince me there was nothing wrong with this guinea pig and I am mistaken. I showed him the pictures I took when I noticed the scabs. I'm not sure if this is protocol, or if he genuinely thought there was nothing wrong, but even after looking at the pictures he assured me there was nothing wrong but I could return him. I am an experienced guinea pig owner. I know this guinea pig was very uncomfortable and not healthy in the least bit. PLEASE, take better care of your animals, Petco! Megan was very patient with him, and asked if he responded to treats, and won him over! His haircut looks amazing, by far the best haircut he's ever gotten. The staff is helpful and, if they don't know an answer to a particular question, they'll call for someone else who does. Furthermore, I have gotten 2 of my 3 dogs groomed here on a couple different occasions: The groomers are always the same gals, they get me in quick, and they are friendly and cool. Plus the prices are good... Don't get me wrong, I am all about supporting local businesses, but the ladies at Petco do a great job so I will continue to support them. I scheduled a dog grooming appointment for my dog maybe 6 weeks ago. I knew the grooming salon would be busy right before Xmas so I wanted to be sure to schedule early. I was told just a few days before the appointment that no one had been scheduled to groom my dog that morning and I needed to reschedule. Wtf? Why even schedule an appointment and then not have a groomer scheduled? I went ahead and rescheduled and the night before the second appointment, I received a call from them saying the groomer wasn't coming in due to a personal issue. They would not schedule me with another groomer because they didn't want to bump someone else. Even though I had originally scheduled weeks ago - ahead of probably every one else. They said the earliest I could reschedule was a week from today. After the holiday. So here it is, too late for me to call another dog grooming place to schedule something before we leave town in a day and a half. Sad! What happened?! You can't make appointments to get your dogs nails trimmed, buffed or brushed anymore! They don't answer the phone and I've left messages but that's a waste of time, the app is a joke and if you want to make an appointment on the website for a trim and buff you're going be pissed off because it's not an option but what took a five star company to One was how unwelcoming this store is. I've never felt so uncomfortable asking an employee about anything! I wasn't able to make an appointment online, I tried over the phone and when I walked in there wasn't anyone around and when I found an employee she told me I had to go online to make an appointment or come back some other time because I didn't have an appointment. Her patronizing commentary on the physical obstacles that would take place if my dog was to join the other dog being groomed at the time really wasn't warranted or necessary. I had a very bad experience with the dog training. The trainer was with us a very short time! He was weird and evasive with my son, dog and myself. My super overly friendly golden doodle would not even go to him! He told me about using one flea medication over the others then said see you next week. I called to complain and the manager said the class was cut short because one of the dogs had fleas!! That would be mine I said. Manager thought he had told me why class was short. But he had not. "Very contagious " she said. But here's the thing: their weren't other dogs! Petco did not ask for shot record either. Fleas?! I don't think so. Very uncomfortable experience. Yuck. read more

And the store looks real neat: merchandise in nicely displayed, things are easy to find, the animals look healthy and, thank goodness, the familiar staff is there to help. There are also a few new animals- any one interested in purchasing a scorpion? And another good thing- finally there is decent parking! It is inside the building, for free and the elevator will take you and your pet right to the store. So why not five stars? Grand opening without freebies??! Not a fan. Went in too buy my 3 year old a guppy. His first tank (not our first rodeo..) Tank was setup about a week ago. Did a ph test, everything looked fine. Get there to buy a fish... Fish person was clearly smarter than either of us. Asked basic questions about when we setup our tank, what our ph was, etc. My husband must have slipped up On her test? Our test strips don't have the same 3 tests that the brand she had on it. Whatever... Then tells us that we have to bring in a water sample before she can sell us fish. Start to argue with her. She says we can buy it but they won't be guaranteed. Purchased them, she went out of her way to walk us to the cashier to tell her that we hadn't set up our tank correctly. Awesome first fish experience. We've purchased dog and cat food here several times. We usually stop at Mudd Bay, but this location is convenient when we have a grocery stop. I will go out if my way to never come to this store again. And note... I neither have the time nor the energy to jump through the hoops of a fish guarantee. I would just have bought another. It is, and has ALWAYS been my belief that 3 specific things in life, FIND YOU. #1. Books #2. Opportunities #3. Animals Now, One can choose to read the books that make their way to their hands. With opportunity, often times the culmination of HARD WORK and waiting for the "Right Pitch." But with Animals, when they find you, there IS no choice. They find you, and your life is forever changed. When we went to the Breeder listed on the advertisement, we walked into a LITERAL ZOO of what looked like replicas of the SAME puppies. I am color blind, I literally could not tell one from another, however, as I had stated earlier, THEY found us. Little fur balls ran RIGHT up to us and they would not leave our sides for a second. Out of a litter of 10, little Mac ( Mackenzie ) and Maddy ( Madeleine ) made it clear that THEY were ours to care for. We made a promise to each other when we got there, we were only going to take ONE home. As if my life long belief system could be thwarted. Within a year, they grew, from little fur balls to puppies. Puppies with energy, speed, and a WILL of their own. We read books, bought all the gear, and consistently pursued to train 2 pups that were ABSOLUTELY not going to give in to our demands. We were supposed to be the "Alphas" and they were supposed to be...well...them. And for the most part, they have been trained by us to know their boundaries, where they live, and that carpets are very nice potty places. We needed help. Enter Mr. David Roeber. Trainer Extraordinaire! From the START, David set our minds at ease with the idea that we were not doing anything to harm them, but rather it was our approach. In our very first Training Session, Mac and Maddy just LOVED David. It was as if somehow they knew that He was some sort of "Zen Master" and they the students. In that session, for the VERY FIRST time, we witnessed both of them "SIT" and wait for a treat. That, in and of itself, spoke VOLUMES about Mr. Roeber's talent and ability to know what to do with each type of breed. We had been to Petco several times before and had always inquired about the "Training Program." However, I always had my doubts. I simply could not see them being properly treated in a place that was a bit up and down for us. It always seemed that the staff either REALLY wanted to help, or we would get, for lack of a better term "Hosed" because we had to rely on an employee that was simply getting a paycheck. Mac and Maddy are not just animals in our home, they ARE our home. They are Family. Truly, if not for David Roeber, we would have no reason to go to Petco, other than for the Food factor and the occasional pup toy. You see, we have choices, and sometimes, in the fray of conducting "Business", people who are in charge of operating said "Businesses", can forget that. We go to Petco in West Seattle because David Roeber has not only refreshed our thoughts on a "Chain" store actually employing individuals who care about the "Brand", but they they ALSO actually have the ability to prove what they say. Im not really a fan of Petco or Petsmart to begin with, I greatly prefer the smaller independent pet stores that are all over this area because they do so much more in terms of adoption and animal care advocacy. But alas, there is no other place in West Seattle that sells crickets for my Leopard Gecko, so I make the trek to Petco every other week. (side note; if anyone knows of a super secret cricket place in WS, please please share with me!!!) Anyways, even in Petco terms, this one is bad! For starters, it is right in the junction, so its a pain in the butt to get to! Plus, I have never been in there without some sort of odd experience, usually in the form of very inconsistent customer service, but a couple times the oddity has come from drunk people and their dogs...enough said! Well, entertainment and weird factors aside, my review is largely based on their crickets, which suck! The one reason I have to go there, and they even get that wrong :( They only have 2 sized, small and large, and somehow even that is inconsistent. I prefer to get him mediums, but go with larges because their smalls are barely pinheads. This means though that I end up with crickets that are way to big over half of the time and I have to fish them out because he won't eat them and their chirping drives me absolutely crazy! Sigh... Will someone please open a better pet store that offers crickets?! read more

I'm giving this an honest * * * (three stars) for several reasons: (1) it's NOT big and barn-like, like the U. District Petco; (2) it's in one of my favorite neighborhoods, the Alaska Junction in West Seattle; (3) the prices are sometimes less than at the smaller stores, though not always. I know this is a corporate-directed pet supply business, but the people do try to answer your questions (more than could be said for most veterinary clinics even after you've paid through your gills for office visits and hospitalization--they still treat you as if you are imposing on them if you ask them a question over the phone and don't have the time to answer questions requiring more than a two-sentence reply), even if the staff is not the most knowledgeable. I went there the other day to look for something to help remove the mats off my cat who has stopped grooming himself COMPLETELY. One of the women in the grooming department was really very fine--concerned enough to take time off of giving a dog a "haircut" and talk to me about how to deal with a problem which was giving no end of grief. She gave me information that I could find NOWHERE--not in all the dozens of cat books I've perused or own, not on the Internet, not from the various feline support groups I belong to,. and not from any of the vet clinics I have been to. And I bought an "Elizabethan" cat collar she recommended that now has given me the confidence to use a pair of sharp scissors to partially cut away at the matted areas on my cat's fur. And she recommended NOT shampooing at all the mats--it would make it worse but to use a slicker brush and a fine-toothed comb. I actually used scissors, on the advice of an acquaintance, event hough she warned me that using scissors could be dangerous, as cats have paper-like skin that tears easily--and a bite with their fangs could be very dangerous. And she didn't try to sell me anything. Just information and advice. And when I couldn't find the cat collar in the store, which is crammed with all sorts of stuff, she came out and helped me find it. A very forlorn set of cages with cats for adoption, courtesy of Purrfect Pals, is somewhere in the back. It did not help that this is a rather "dark" store with fluorescent lighting and no windows. It would still be nice, of course, if they did like Trader Joe's: better organization, paring down the number of things they carry so that only the tried and proven remain on the shelf. That said, their return/exchange policy, as at most pet supply stores, is liberal. The Petco online site gives customer's reviews of products Petco sells. Unfortunately, there isn't a Internet-connected computer terminal in the store where one can read them. read more

I have (too many times) over-heard employees share completely wrong information to inquiring customers about products or pets. I have (even more times) seen people shop and not get any help at all! Even when they come ask for some! The employees mean well and are friendly when you can find one... 3 stars due to the fact that customer service comes first and foremost in my book... Stella was my groomer. My dog Gracie is 10 years old and a shin tzu. She took great care of her and listened to what I wanted.

Cannot buy anything from the fish department without an unnecessary lecture. Now I understand if someone is buying an expensive or rare fish, that making sure that they have everything they need is important. However...I was looking to buy two tetras, and a fresh water shrimp - for a grand total of ~$7. I'm prepared to take my chances if someone who has taken the 2 hour "aquatic specialist" training thinks my tank is too small. However they wouldn't sell me the fish without a grilling as to the size of my tank and without a lecture how I was going to suffocate my fish with their own poop. I asked several no less than three times to skip the lecture and just get the fist - but the gal just couldn't do it, so after 15 minutes of waiting for an employee to grace me with the pleasure of their company in a cell phone dead zone, I walked out of there empty handed. It's my $7 - let me make my own bad decisions. read more

I'm a dog owner and was looking for a new bed and some toys, but didn't really find anything I was too into. Prices aren't the best in town. This is about the wonderful customer service. Called to see if I could get my puppy in for a nail trim and trimming of the hair around his paws. Lady on the phone said I could bring the pup in for a nail trim (walk in service) but sorry that she was about to leave and wouldn't be there to cut the hair on his paws. I said that was fine because I really just needed the nails trimmed and I was calling late on a Sunday. I get there 25 min later and the lady waited for us! That was so sweet. This was my dog's first time to a groomer so he was quite a handful (I watched). She was great with him and did such a great job with the cut and nail trim. I wish I knew her name. I forgot to ask if they accepted tips. Next time I come back I'll ask. As for the rest of the store... I've been at this location and the last location numerous times for both the puppy and my 5 year old dog. Since moving, their customer service had greatly improved. I'm always asked if I can be helped to find something. And when I do need help, they know their product selection and help me find what I'm looking for. Thanks again! read more

I have to add my adoration for the training staff here! We have two dogs at very different training levels. My lab, who is so smart she tries to game the system to get more treats, and my snugglebull, who is sweet, but led by his nose and just not that bright. We have a "group" lessons, but they are willing to create a group class just for us. This makes a huge difference in the progress every week. We took them to group training before and didn't have much success, or one on one time. Now, we learn something new every week and we can see the progress. Plus, Allie, our trainer, genuinely loves what she does and is very good at teaching us humans what to do. She's great at using the busy store to help us train our dogs in real life scenarios. For us this is key, they can be great in class and freak out in real life settings. Its made a huge difference for us! read more

I took my puppy here for training classes with Jean. My dog was such a nervous thing when we first got her but now her confidence has grown so much. She now knows several commands and has improved with her loose leash walking. Learning training techniques were invaluable and now I can continue to practice with her at home. read more

First of all, Jean at the puppy training area is a star. She is the only person that actually seems like she'd been working there for over a week. Puppy class with Jean = a knowledgable, attentive, and productive class. The one star goes to the GROOMING department. I arrived at for my 10 am grooming appointment for my 5-month old puppy, and the grooming office was closed and the lights were off. I asked the cashier girl and she mentioned they were opening up any minute, so I said "no problem" and loitered around the store. 15-20 min later I noticed the lights were on and they were already working on another puppy. I walked over to get my pup checked in, and woman working on the computer at the grooming area was helpful with the paperwork process, vet records, etc. As I left, however, she said it would be 2.5 hours. I was stunned. "2.5 hours for a bath and Face, Feet, and Fanny hair trim???" I thought. I accepted it and ran some errands. When I returned 2.5 hours later, I was told "we're just finishing up, it'll be another 20-25 min or so, but here's the invoice so you can pay" I was incredulous. When the grooming tech finally emerged, my pup looked shaken, running toward me as if she was actively trying to escape the tech. She led me and sprinted out of the store! When I inspected the work at the car, her face hair had barely been trimmed and her "fanny" hair seemed as long as it had been. She still had long hairs on her face and the hair was still dropping down to her eye level. The whole point of the grooming appointment was to trim those hairs so they would NOT hang into her eyes. I just don't understand how a grooming tech could take about three HOURS for a simple bath and trimming session, and yet return my puppy looking about the same as when I dropped her off! I caught a glimpse of the pet holding area behind the door and they seemed to keep a bunch of pets in metal cages akin to holding cells. I'm not wasting my time and money at the grooming salon at this Petco. read more

I came in to make a small return with my fiancé and this is during Coronavirus and everyone is obviously super on edge, but we also came to buy a NEW harness and cat litter and due to the brown haired rude mean woman at the checkout counter we literally just turned around and left after the return. She immediately started with telling us no returns after April 14, ok great haha it's April 9, so not really the first thing to lead with. And then she asked me to stand back 6 feet away from my partner and so I did.. but then she continued to snap about how no one reads the signs and I need to be far away from her, even though I was 6 feet away from her and next to my live in person. Anyway haha I said "you are so rude" and left. I get it's a hard time but you don't need to be at work if you're going to be an absolute a hole to every customer you see. Came in to get my dog the "mini make rover" and while wandering I found the fish section and ended up buying some fish for my tank. I have to say if you ever have questions about fish or fish tanks, ask for David. He was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly and explained things in a way that made sense. I live so close that it is rather convenient but I will never support this store again! The lady in the grooming department was so rude to me today by just asking if they had time to squeeze in my pooch. I ended up walking out due to her horrible looks and rude demeanor. I decided to purchase our first two leopard geckos from the West Seattle Petco. Unfortunately, I had not owned any geckos before and trusted the information the Petco sales associate provided. When I questioned why the geckos were so small, she stated they were babies and would grow quickly. Little did I know these geckos were so malnourished and diseased that they did not even remotely look like a healthy gecko should at any age. Both geckos died within two weeks; one had gone to vet after the first one died. The vet stated this was the worst condition of a gecko that she had ever seen, and recommended Animal Control be contacted. After the second one died, I was so disgusted I took back all the equipment and housing I had purchased there (well over $200) and requested a refund. I was initially told that I could only have store credit because I did not have receipts for everything and that she was already doing more than she should since it was two days past their "live pet" guarantee. I then spoke to the manager and showed him a picture of the gecko, and he then was able to locate my receipts and refund my money. He offered that Petco had received a bad shipment of geckos lately, to which I then asked how could they sell them in good faith? He just stated I should have returned the geckos sooner when I noticed they were sick... not much help, not much concern, and I again feel truly sick about the entire experience and will never shop Petco ever again. read more

I'm new when it comes to pups and had the misfortune to had a phone talk to a very rude lady; I asked her couple of questions and situation about my 6 week old pup; after explaining she replied: We Are Not Petsmart!!! I'm forced to write this review to come to this store's defense after seeing all the bashing they have gotten lately. I've been a customer for serveral years and my dog has been getting excellent care from the grooming staff their for the past 4 years from Ann, who I was sad to learn just last week is no longer with this store. They have the best prices for grooming services in the area, and they are always making sure I get the current coupons, and special offers, so that I've gotten the best possible price. In response to all of the complaints about foul odors, all I can say is get over it, it's a pet store! If I wanted to get supplies for my car, I'd certainly not expect shucks or autozone not to smell like various car products. So it is with Petco. Perhaps people have too high of an expectation. read more

Amazing experience! I went in to get a few things for my puppy, and while there decided my son was ready for his own pet fish. Long story short, Jordon (I hope, I called trying to get her name) helped us pick the best beginner fish, find everything we need and gave my son the sweetest tall about what not to do to harm the fish.
