Jona (I think that was his name) was incredibly helpful. I needed a clay paw imprint for my sick dog before we put him down. I called before I got there and he pulled one off the shelf for me because they were running low, then I showed up to pick it up but my baby fell asleep in the car so he told me to order online and he would run it out to me. He did exactly that even though we were parked not very close to the car. It's been a hard day and people like him should be recognized. Tony was very rude when my friend asked for a difference return when her items showed up cheaper online. The original cashier Ricardo made a mistake which we weren't upset about, accidents happen but an almost $20 difference is quite a bit. We weren't wrong for asking for a difference return. I believe Tony is a manager but wasn't acting as so. Ricardo went above and beyond to assist me in checking the price of my item and finding a cheaper price but didn't do so with my friend's purchase which is fine, again we aren't upset, the manager when giving us a difference refund was rude and said "Next time check beforehand!" in a very rude tone of voice. While yes, he had a point -- it does nothing for him to simple refund it and recharge us for the correct amount. We didn't raise our voice or even call him out of his name. If Tony is a manager, his higher management needs to give him training on customer service because he was extremely rude! read more

Got my wheelchair bound ass out of my vehicle after making sure they were open prior with my children one of which is a toddler. Just to be told I have to wait over thirty minutes for them to put stuff away first. Couldn't take 3 minutes out of what they were doing in the store to help me grab a half dozen feeder fish. Lazy. If I could give 0 stars I would. I contacted customer service along with going back to the location to apologize for being so heated in the discussion with the manager Tony. I volunteer and do drives for pet supplies consistently and always have recommended Petco as a place to source product, but NEVER again. Last week Sat, I booked an appointment with Brynna but she has terrible customer service. We arrived right before opening and waited about 30 minutes for our grooming appointment on both of my pups. I spend $30 a month in memberships with Petco along with buying food for donations and myself. My husband and I were honestly worried about the worker last week since they said they could not get a hold of her... but at the same time they laughed as it seemed it was a normal thing at this location. We then spoke to the manager who said she apologized sincerely because she seemed to be a no call, no show and that she would book us next week at the same time and offer a discount. The thing is that I work retail and am a busy manager so I had work today and said I would be late to accommodate the mess ups. Upon arriving, the lady said she would have to rebook us and skimmed through things and said "well you never got a confirmation so it's not my fault"... I asked for her name and it was the same groomer who did not show last week. When I said last week we were waiting for you she smiled and laughed in my face and said "you are lying because I was here and only 5 minutes late". Mind you, you can run the footage and see us waiting that day last week and she was not there. Not only did she lie and said she called and left a voicemail, which she didn't call nor leave a voicemail- she called us liars. When speaking to Tony at this point I was livid because I took time out of my day to arrive at this appointment. Instead of being helpful at the moment he said "not all of us here are like that" and seemed not to reassure us that there would be a conversation going forward with the groomer. I have never felt so upset with a company than today and have called customer service to report this but think it is worthy of leaving reviews. Do not come here, in fact I will no longer recommend people to shop at Petco for the events I host and I canceled my membership's. Do better Petco. read more

Terrible customer service. Completely out of stock on a product that is a Petco product ie. wholehearted food. Been out of stack for quite a while. But they did have some in very small packages and we're not at all willing to work with me on the price considering the fact that the small package cost more than half as much as the large package. I have been taking my Golden Retriever, Tucker, in Santee for over a year now. Tucker has had seven appointments here and they typically do a great job. However, this last experience was truly awful. Golden Retrievers are known for their long hair, and I've always made it clear that I like to keep Tucker's hair long with just a trim. My appointment settings have always been consistent. I am getting married on 09/27, and I was especially looking forward to having Tucker as part of the wedding photos. Unfortunately, the haircut that was provided is nothing short of horrific. She cut off almost all of his hair to the point where Tucker no longer even looks like a Golden Retriever. His mane, the hair behind his legs, and his ears were all chopped off so drastically that I wouldn't have recognized him if he hadn't been in my own home. I am beyond disappointed. If this had been any other day, I might have been able to let it go. After all, hair grows back. But this was for my wedding--a once-in-a-lifetime event--and my wedding photos are a memory I can never recreate. As a loyal customer, I'm incredibly frustrated that the usual service I requested was not provided. Where was the disconnect? I will no longer trust Petco's grooming services for Tucker, and I strongly advise other pet owners to be cautious when booking. What makes this situation even worse is that she took much longer with Tucker than normal. I dropped him off at 1:45 pm, and I didn't receive a message until 4:06 pm, saying, "FYI, we close at 4:30 today." Came in to buy over 300 dollars in fish and cO2 put all back and drove across the street to PetSmart. Maybe remove the dead and diseased fish from your own tank before lecturing. They opened the store 20 minutes late, was supposed to be open at 9 and they very reluctantly opened the door at 9:20. They did not greet me. No cashiers available. I'm frustrated because I went to the Santee Petco before closing to run in and pick up some dog food because my dog has a sensitive stomach and they carry the brand of food he eats. when I walked up the door, it was locked and it was probably around 7:50-7:53 and there was still customer inside at the register. I waited at the door because an employee was slowly walking to the door while she was on her cell phone and then she stood at the door to finish her phone conversation before cracking the door and I asked if they were closed and she said yes and I asked her at least 4 times if it was 8 because my phone was in the car with my son. I've lived in santee 7 years and can count the amount of times I've been helped in the aquatic section on one hand. The store has been short staffed the whole time and the wait for 5 fish is somewhere between 20-30 mins, and when the employees ( not including the amazing veteran gentleman) do show up you feel like a inconvenience to them. I've had to wait so long that I end up getting fish myself. I've been a aquarium hobbyist 15 years and before that worked in a bait shop. I like this PETCO over PetSmart because they're right next door to our vet so we can just trot on over there after what our extra fluffy orange tabby thinks of unnecessary torture at THRIVE for some "after- torture" treats and toys. The staff are always friendly and patient with any pets, they have quite a varied selection of dog and cat food, and more toys than any fur babies would know what to do with. If there is a downside, it's that their selection of feline items are at about 25% of that of canines'. We went looking for a new harness for our chubby boy, but most of their selections were designed for kittens. Other than that, we really don't have much of a complaint. We'll definitely keep coming back. read more

This review is for GREG. I'm a relatively new dog owner so I'm still learning a lot. Lately, my pup won't eat any dry food whatsoever and eats food that I buy for her for one or two days and then she won't eat it anymore. I wasn't sure how to navigate all of the options at Petco and that's where Greg comes in. Greg was SO helpful. He knew all about every brand they had in the store and was so knowledgeable and helpful. He was kind and patient and really educated me on all of the options and pros and cons of the food options, dog toys, and treats. He really cared about my pup which was so refreshing. I went to take my puppy for the very first time to get his nail buffed. The lady there Kylee was rude and unprofessional, didn't make me feel welcome it seemed she was in a rush. I wish I could give the groomer here a negative 10 stars. They are incompetent and useless. Do not waste your time taking your pet here. I had an appointment here for 2 dogs which I informed them not once but twice that one of my dogs had a slipped disc in her back. My son dropped them off as I was working. They refused my dog with a slipped disc stating she needed to go to a groomer that had a vet available. She has been getting groomed for 9 years every month with zero problems. I called to find out what was going on only to get a recording, as they do not answer their phones. I got a call 2 and 1/2 hours later from what I'm guessing is the manager telling me this is their store policy. Well If it's a policy why after I told you 2 times while making the appointment you could not do it?. He then asks me if I wanted my one dog groomed that was dropped off at 1100. Wait, "do I want my dog groomed that's been there now for 2.5 hours"?. What the hell do you mean my dog has been there 2 1/2 hours and nothing has been done, are you all this stupid really? My son goes and picks up my dog and guess what? They have now had him 4 hours and all they did was wash him. I'm furious. I want to report them to the corporate office. Does anyone out there know where I can report them. I've been getting both of my dogs groomed every month for 9 years and I've never seen this much incompetence ever. I want to infirm on all form of social media how bad this place is.. get a Mobil groomer if your regular groomer is still closed for covid reasons. Avoid this place at all costs. I had a bad feeling about this place, wish I had gone with my instinct. March 27, 2020 I contacted the corporate office and got the send us a private message and tell us what happens. Sent the message and they said they would investigate it. That was over a week ago. I got an instant message today saying the Petco in Santee sent me a message and I should follow up with them. Not only did the Petco not leave me a message but even if they did they are incompetent, totally vindictive and unhelpful on a major scale. Why would I contact them. So, their corporate office does not care if they leave a dog in a kennel for 4 hours and do not give them water or let them out to pee. My boy was so dehydrated when he got home . He drank for2 min straight and was coughing so bad. Scared me. If this covid was not such a problem I would have taken him to the vet. Do not take your animal here to be groomed. This location is definitely small, but I must say that I was really impressed with how the animals and aquatic life were being housed. All of the hamsters and guinea pigs had fresh vegetables and fruits in their enclosures, and all of the fish were lively. I've been to other pet stores where they were dead fish floating in the aquariums with the live fish, so to me, it was a really good sign to see all of the aquatic life in good condition. All of the catnip and pet grass at the registers were also in really good shape. I've been to other locations where the plants were dying, so a little thing like that impresses me. read more

Update:05/24 Sunday Came here to look at Collars. Jason of course showed me the perfect collar for my Cane Corso! Jason showed me the differences in collars and chains. He also demo d how to Use them for me! Ricardo checked me out and was super helpful. He took the extra step and time to update my phone number on my Petco Pals Account! Always Exceptional Smiling Service that keeps me coming back! Coupons are Nice too! Saved 20$! I swear I normally go to Petco and just look in the clearance bin because I've always considered them expensive. But I started talking with Jason and he completely schooled me on my dog and what it needed and food and the right color and right leash and just everything that I could know about my dog Jason was so awesome. I was going to Amazon on my phone and looking for a price match but Petco had already beaten Amazons prices with their sale prices. I also spent enough to use a coupon which saved me a lot of money and I use a lot of buy two get one free. The service provided by Jason and the rest of the staff was exceptional. I had only brought so much cash in. I had to watch what I spent. The cashier was super patient and helpful. She didn't mind making sure I had enough cash to cover the transaction.Like I said I usually go to Petco just to look at what they have and buy some thing out of the clearance bin but after seeing their prices and the specials and the service that was provided by the staff I will definitely be a Petco Pal from now on!!!!It is a great location in Santee, plenty of parking, nice shopping carts very good store read more

I go to this location about every week and a half to two weeks for pet food. The layout is perfect and easy to find stuff. the staff is helpful and nice. About two weeks ago, I went in to purchase the Petco Brand Dog food and Cat food (Whole Hearted); to which I swear by all the Whole Hearted products. I went and got my bag of dog food and my smaller bag of cat food. The only problem I have is that if you don't check the label, you might not get the right food for the right pet. In this instance, I bought the same flavor for the dog as I had the cat. The packaging is so similar!!! So there must have been a mix up as the smaller bags of dog food was in the cat food aisle. So I had essentially bought two bags of dog food. I went back three days later when I realized the cat was not eating her food. I gladly ate the mistake for myself and bought a new bag of cat food. Just to be on the safe side, after I paid for my new bag of cat food. I told the checker, Patrick of the mix-up. I made it clear I was not looking to get anything out of it... just letting them know of the mix-up. He called over the manager, Teresea, and let her know of the mix up. Again, I was not looking for anything and I certainly had no proof of the mistake but she wholly understood the mix-up and comped me my $25 bag of cat food! I called and stood outside their business for 20 minutes and there still wasnt anybody there to assist me or answer the phone. The inability or unwillingness of the store manager, "Anna" to even attempt to accommodate the Petco Padres K-9 deal when "supplies ran out" certainly raises a question about the brand as well as management training. Hiding behind "policy" when a simple accommodation could easily be made simply erodes customer satisfaction. Brand/Store loyalty depends on deals made being honored. GROOMING was top-notch! I don't own show dogs or anything, just two, mangy mutts. Their outdoor, high energy, filthy dogs, whom I haven't had the time nor the money to get bathed. Although Petco Grooming didn't have any specials going on, I went ahead and asked for the works - including a de-shed and hair cut for my hound mix - who sheds like crazy every winter. I was pleasantly surprised to see the bill only came to less than 70$ for the both of them!! And, they allowed me to finish my errands before I came to get them... And I've left the there for longer than that, and they've never had a problem with it! Staff is also very friendly! And helpful!!! read more

I stopped going to this store even though I live 6 min from it cause of how rude most of the employees are. I would always opt to go to The La Mesa location instead because of this. The Groomer Peabody, did a pretty good job on one of my dogs. And he wasn't injured like at the Mira Mesa petco grooming location (sliced skin off his ears on two different occasions). However, for my second dog. I made an appointment on a different day. I was called the day of, that the groomer I was randomly assigned was out sick. I was told I would be called back later that day to be rescheduled for a appointment that same day. They never called me. I even left a message at 3/4pm asking if I would be scheduled that day. No response. Am quite disappointed by the lack of response. I initially chose this location since it was the soonest Petco grooming appointment I could make for my dog's. I will instead wait a whole month to make an appointment at a closer Petco in hopes they have better customer service. read more
