My neighborhood Petco/Vetco. The only place I've taken my Shih Tzu Sarah, for her immunizations. I had medical emergency and Sarah's shots were overdue. I'm catching Uber to get around & I'm a stroke survivor. The nurse told me they'd take Sarah, although she said they had to close the line early, because the Vet was late. The lighting is jarring to the senses, and the special advertising and stamps of authenticity or trademark they seem to have on each fish tank is so unpleasant to have to include in their descriptions. I don't know if I want to continue shopping here after my friend was price gouged for dog toys. (Tip-you can find awesome dog toys for affordable prices at Ross). Decent pet store...I visit only once a month for fish and cat food. Prices aren't fantastic, but they're a bit less than the vets office and the shelves are stocked nicely. Only a handful of times I left empty handed - cat collars were less than acceptable, hummingbird feeders were cracked and my cats favorite high protein treats were expired. Most would give up on this place, but the store is convenient and I understand off days. Parking is tricky when it's crowded, I try to stay away during the lunch rush...the In and Out burger is nearby and, well, you know, it's busier than heck. This location is always having some sort of pet adoption day, I'm fully stocked on pets, but if I weren't I might consider adopting a pet here. Can't figure out their rewards club plan, they say every time I spend $100 I'll get a $5 coupon. No coupon yet, my cat food is $25 each time, I should have a coupon by now as I've been a member for 5+ years. Five dollars isn't enough to turn me away, but it sure would be nice if they would ax the reward club and simply lower prices? Call me crazy. read more

Took our puppy, Pepper to Petco for grooming. We are extremely happy with the outcome. Meme took such good care of her. She made sure that Pepper felt comfortable and secure. Took the necessary steps NOT to traumatize her. Petco was the second place we have taken her to be groomed, and this was the only time she was not timid when she came home. I kid you not, EVERY time I call this place so that I can get my dog groomed they never answer. I call every day multiple times and they NEVER answer. What's the point of having a phone number? Vital Care is a rip off, I got it so that I can take my dog for nail cutting and teeth brushing every week but I can't even make an appointment over the phone. I'm so done with Petco and its Grooming department. This is the 5th different Petco location I've used in the last 20 years because they ALL wind up going from good to awful. The last few times at the Redondo store, my dog didn't receive some of the services I paid for, and they would say they didn't have time because they were overbooked. Then I would call for a new appointment, but the phone would just ring. I even tried booking the appointment in person when I took my dog to have her nails clipped, but they said they didn't have enough people working to do that. So a few weeks ago I booked an appointment online, which was still going to be a few weeks out. Then today I get a text message saying my appointment is canceled! My poor pup can't wait any longer so I've booked her somewhere else. read more

My dogs are picky with their dry dog food. But they also get tired of eating the same foods. I've only been able to switch them between two brands. Whole earth and natural balance. It's quite difficult finding someone to help with questions about the other brands of dog food. Love this store , always super helpful employees but hoping they will start the mandatory mask wearing when it goes into play tomorrow, I saw a groomer even help adjust a women's mask today for her as she struggled to hold her dog, kind of strange on the customers part to even allow that since she's wearing a mask and the whole point is to avoid risk which I think is super risky for a stranger and employee to touch a strangers face, they also were less than a foot away so not to sure why they aren't following the six foot rule there either lol... read more

This review is for the grooming staff and the store manager-in particular Jovan and Megan. My dog is 8 years old and had been coming to Petco grooming salon since she was 2 years old. Over the years, the staff that both myself and my dog had grown to know and love slowly started disappearing until there was an entirely new staff in the grooming department. This was fine as everyone seemed great. A few months ago was the last time I would return to this Petco for ANYTHING! I took my dog for grooming with Jovan and when I received the expected call to pick her up a few hours later I was told the following by Jovan (not verbatim): "Your dog can't come back anymore because she was really stressed the entire time I was grooming her and I spoke to my manager and she said your dog can't come back to us anymore. You will have to take her to the vet where they can sedate her to give her a bath or somewhere else, but she can't come back here". I was shocked. We had been coming to this Petco for 6 years and someone who had been there just a few months was telling me that my dog was no longer welcome. Wow. I came to pick here up and I was understandably a little emotional and we left. Later I received an automated email from Petco asking about my recent experience so I told them what had just transpired. I then receive a call from Megan, the store manager, the same day where I reiterate what transpired and she says the following (not verbatim): "Well, I talked to Jovan and he said he didn't say that your dog couldn't come back. I watched the video and your dog was really stressed, but Jovan never said she couldn't come back". So, basically, I'm lying is what she is saying. Not to mention, she talked over me for the majority of the conversation until I finally asked her to just let me speak. To conclude, I am greatly disappointed in the treatment I received both by Jovan and Megan. It is my understanding that Megan is the one and only store manager at this location and that if Jovan spoke to a manager that confirmed my dog could not come back, then that was Megan. The lies, disrespect and lack of basic customer service in this situation were unbelievable. This Petco will never again receive my business in any form. read more

If I could give negative stars I would about a month ago I took my dog to get his vaccines I had a one And a half-year-old frenchie who has never had any health issues The vet gave him Benadryl and then his vaccines with in a week my dogs health went from perfect to completely diminished causing him to pass away. The most heartbreaking thing to watch your dogs health disintegrate in front of your eyes because of the vaccines and when I tried to reach out to Petco corporate got no reply... horrendous! read more

Hands down my best experience at a pet store. Midori worked tirelessly to cater to multiple customers' needs. She is very knowledgeable on a variety of animals with prior experience in ownership. She helped me and my girlfriend pick out a turtle tank, filter, food, heater, etc whilst finding us the best prices and letting us know about possible near future deals and discounts. Because of Midori I will definitely return to this location to fulfill any other needs my turtle may have. 10/10 customer service. THIS REVIEW IS 100% FOR THE DOG TRAINERS. If you want dog trainers who are incredibly knowledgeable, have a lot of patience and you want to see results go see Nick and Carlos they are AMAZING trainers! I researched a ton of trainers and visited different places before we landed at Petco of all places. These guys work so well with the dogs and with each other. My dog is obsessed with Nic (he's our trainer) we have a 5 month old puppy who has come along way these past months thanks to Nick. He listens to our concerns, gives us honest advice and helps us work through the problems. We also do their,'Puppy Play' program on Saturdays, so that our dog can get socialized with puppies his age and it's free and all supervised by these trainers. They intervene if needed and match dogs based off of their energy. Love the trainers we are so grateful for them and highly recommend. In fact we drive further out to this location because of them. read more

1 star for the groomers. Terrible haircuts every time. I have taken my yorkie to 2 different groomers here. Both times he came out with a choppy looking haircut that I could've given him at home. Also, every other groomer I take him to keeps my dog for 60-90 minutes. Petco took 3-4 hours each time (even with my prescheduled appointment). The store here is excellent. 4 stars for the store. The main downside is understaffed checkout counter. Will go back for the store, not for groomers. read more

This review is based on Vetco the clinic inside Petco! I will NOT be bringing Chupu(my dog) back to Vetco!! The main Vet (an older white guy) had a face that screamed "I don't want to be hear". I warned them that he is "very head shy but wasn't aggressive" and they all looked concerned and didn't want to touch him! The vet then suddenly sprayed Chupus leg with disinfectant for the blood test and completely freaked him out!! Long sorry short both the assistant and I had to hold him down and the stupid part is that Chupu is great with getting shoots, it was just the STRANGERS grabbing his HEAD and upper body that was scaring him(after I warned them)!!! This review is for their Vetco clinic. Do not trust these people. I took my cat in for the feline leukemia vaccination and the attendant took quite a bit of time reviewing his medical record from the shelter and allowed us to get him the vaccination except that he had already received it from the shelter!! We spent $84 for nothing! And my kitty got an extra two shots he didn't even need!! And honestly, the prices here aren't cheaper than a traditional vet's office. Please please please be extra thorough like I should've been and double check that your pet isn't getting unnecessary, repetitive shots. read more

I am sorely disappointed with Petco. As a new fish keeper, I went the Redondo Beach store on May 5th to purchase a bubbler. I was assisted by one of the clerks, I believe her name was Krystal and that is the reason they at least received one star because she was extremely helpful and kind. Even though the store did not look all that clean, I still purchased two gold fish and a bottom feeder from Petco. I took them home, placed the bag in the tank, waited at least thirty minutes before adding them with my existing fish (had 4 already - yes had. Two of my existing fish have also died. Two remaining). Well the minute I put the 2 new fish in the tank, before the end of the day my water was murky. I did a lot of research and few people said the tank was going through bacteria bloom; however, I believed that the fish and bottom feeder I purchased from Petco were diseased. I was correct. Ten days later, one of the gold fish I purchased from Petco died, the next day the other one, and the third day, the bottom feeder. I then noticed two of my smaller gold fish were not swimming as usual. The next day the smallest one died, followed by the next size up dying. Two of my existing fish died because of the diseased fish from Petco. I completed their survey and Katrina reached out and left a voicemail. I returned her call at least three times with no one wanting to take a message. I finally reached her and she said there was nothing they could do. She said the policy is they will not sell a person a fish unless their tank has been established 30 days. Wait what? Why didn't the representative ask me about that before selling me the fish? Why isn't this posted on the website or in front of the fish for sale? Katrina said but I could bring a sample of my water to the store for testing on yesterday (05/25/23) but I am unsure as to why I would drive to their store for her to test my water and nothing is going to be done about my fish that died. But when I called to confirm she was there, I was told she was not in. I asked to leave a message for Katrina and was told to call back today (05/26/23). Guess leaving messages are not allowed. I am sorely disappointed with the Redondo Beach Petco and would not recommend anyone to shop at that store. The worst!!! read more

Came here for some pet supplies. I was very disappointed: Store was very disorganized, cluttered, and looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a while. Even worse, as I'm checking out the cashier who is ringing me up is having a conversation with another employee 20 feet away...and the guy 20 feet away is using expletives! This is a family pet store! Children frequent this establishment with their parents! Highly uncalled for. The only saving grace was David who was working in the fish department. He was workind hard and seemed to be the only one pulling his weight handling issues in the fish area and other places at the same time. Thanks David. Your store needs a few more people like you. If you're around the area and have a pet emergency (I.E. out of pet food and NEED it soon) this place will suffice. But I wouldn't go out of my way to shop here. read more

I am writing this review after 3 failed attempts at getting help during the last 3 visits in the aquatics department. The issue is that nobody is there. We've requested assistance at the front of the store and we hear the announcement but nobody comes comes in a timely manner. This Petco is understaffed and morale is low. We've never met the manager but we have seen the employees openly argue in the middle of the store. This location needs serious improvement. Asking the cashier once how she was doing she didn't even make eye contact with me and just answered "tired". Great customer service, lol! We also paid for 10 classes with a "dog trainer". Mr "Dog Trainer" is not only not very good but has also during 3 sessions: 1. Messed up and double booked all 3 times. 2. Actually pretended that he DIDN'T double book once and tried to hold 2 training sessions with our dog and another dog at the same time. 3. Not responded to text messages, so you have to repeatedly write to him again. read more

This Petco is pretty close to my house which is why I go there from time to time. I typically only go if I need something for Gizmo (my puppy) in a hurry otherwise I usually purchase it on Amazon. The selection isn't that great since I buy my pup organic food and they don't always have the kind that I'm looking for. And when they do its a bit pricey and cheaper to buy on Amazon. The parking can be a bit of a pain so I usually park on the Vons side. A lot of people drive like they're on the freeway and just zoom through the place without regard for pedestrians and their furry friends. A lot of these people are coming from In & Out so they're too focused on eating versus driving. You'd think it would be easier if they just parked some place, ate and then left. read more

I'm a new owner of a kitten and came in to find some toys and catnip. I walked in a few weeks ago and asked if they had catnip. The cashier looked at me and said "yeeeah.. It's in the cat area." She for sure had an attitude with me. Like I'm suppose to know where this crap is at? My bad! Later I was helped by a gentleman, who's name slipped my mind, anyways he had tattoos on his arms and he had dirty blond hair.. I believe. Took my 6lb puppy there and a lady named la Shea was the person who groomed my puppy. From the beginning you can see she moved slow and really didn't care to even be there. I received a call within 30 minutes that she can't groom my puppy because she's scared of the clippers? I asked did she bite because she doesn't bite. La Shea told me oh well she didn't bite but she shakes and is scared. Well wtf get another person to hold the puppy and use your shears instead of clippers! Complete laziness! I went to another groomer who was shocked that grooming my little puppy was even an issue. They groomed her with no problem? I wouldn't trust this place for your grooming needs and especially stay away from this lady la Shea she isn't good with animals. read more

2.5 stars? Yup, sounds about right. The store itself is fine. They keep it stocked and you can manage to get what you need when you are there. But (!) just wait until you get up to the register. I wouldn't have bothered to write a review like this if I had only experienced this situation once, but the truth is it is like this every single time I have been: The employee who will inevitably ring you up will be preoccupied either with the previous customer and their "very important" conversation about hair products, or by the "manager" bickering at the cashier to "focus and ring up the customer." Or maybe if you are as lucky as I was it will be two employees openly flirting with one another. Once, it was the cashier complaining about what a crap job he had and how it was made much worse by their coworkers in general. Once I received a wink and a nod that I had "just adopted a pet right?" (no, not from this location I hadn't) and I got a coupon book. Ok, I wont complain about free discounts, but that just seems shady.
