I am writing this specifically because Valerie at the El Segundo PetSmart (in the aquatic/fish section) is an absolute superstar and needs to be officially recognized by the company. My family and I came in already having a 3-gallon tank with a Betta fish, but we were looking to upgrade to a larger setup so we could add some dwarf frogs. Valerie was incredibly sweet and immediately took us under her wing. She didn't just point at a shelf; she provided a masterclass in fish care. She was so knowledgeable about the entire ecosystem--recommending the perfect snails, explaining the specific sand and soil needed, and showing us exactly which aquatic plants provide the best oxygen for the frogs and fish. Honestly, her expertise was so deep that I actually asked if she had gone to school for this! She made my entire family feel so comfortable and confident in our new hobby. It is rare to find someone in retail who is this passionate and educated. I truly hope management reads this and realizes what an asset they have. I talked to the onsite mgr tonight who didn't bother to answer the phone with her name and made every excuse in the book for why a groomer didn't return two phone calls over the span of 3 business days? Really? And you value my business a company who rarely offers coupons for grooming or points customers in that direction . Not happy with her non chalent attitude towards bad service and she didn't even attempt to provide any better service instead suggested I cut out one service to get a reduction versus offering me a percent off. I went in today to ask for the proper necessities a reptile I just got needed. First I approached a man and he gave me an attitude stated he didn't know anything about what I was asking. He then went to go get someone which I waited about 8 minutes. I assumed because he called someone for me that this person was going to know about the reptile.. no, this employee pulled her phone out, asked CHATGPT all the questions I asked then went to tell me as she knew what she was talking about. People wonder why they don't get paid well, or annoyed with how AI will eventually take over the world.... Took my cat in to get groomed and I was initially happy until I realized my cat brought home a flea infestation from there. All of my animals were treated consistently and before I took him in to be groomed. He was the first to have fleas (he's an indoor cat). Now I need to treat all of my animals. My mother passed away and left behind a senior dog, who I brought out to California to live with me. He needs a considerable amount of care and medications, but I'm happy to provide them; having him here is like carrying a heartbeat of my mother's life into my own. After a grooming session at this PetSmart location, the groomer was annoyed and let me know they needed a bit of assistance helping the dog stand (he's old, but can stand and walk) and that I should choose a mobile groomer from now on because a mobile groomer would be more equipped for this. I have no idea what that means. I left the store feeling very guilty. I recently heard a groomer call into a radio show and mention that groomers are used to being pooped and peed on and bitten--it's all part of the job--but apparently arthritis is a bridge too far for PetSmart El Segundo. I'll now choose to take the dog somewhere else, not by choice but because I've effectively been banned. They made it clear: age and compassion aren't welcome here. read more

I'm giving this review based off of my experience. The grooming salon took my baby as a walk in on the same day. I was reluctant to go back to PetSmart because of my experience at the Hawthorne location but I'm glad I was able to give petsmart a second chance with a new fur baby. This was my babies first hair cut and she came back looking very clean and well groomed and didn't try to up charge me and give me an excuse upon pick up or even at drop off. Thank you to Lily for handling her grooming services. You did an amazing job. My baby came back super energetic and hyper which was not what I was expecting, which meant she was taken care of. I will be going back to this location specifically to handle all her grooming needs. They told me they were gonna see if they would be able to give her a haircut since it was her first one, if not it would just be a trim and bath & when I picked her up they were successful in doing so. Went in to buy fish tank filter for 10 gallon tank. Kids then decided they wanted to add 2 more feeder fish to the 6 existing ones in the fish tank. Riley, the "acting lead" refused to sell us 2 of these feeder fish because she felt the 10 gallon was not enough space for 4 of these species. Yet in the tanks they have over 100 feeder fish, (4 of them were dead and my 4 year old saw them dead on top of the water). If these feeder goldfish are feeders for other species, how can Riley decide that 4 fish in a 10 gallon is cruelty. I didnt know she worked for PETA, where i think she should go work. When I was there earlier, other people bought 8 goldfish in one bag and I didnt hear that Associate ask them what type of tank they had, etc. I was in there buying a filter for the tank, so how does that not show Riley that the fish are being adequately cared for. I bought the tank there, along with gravel, plants, tank accessories and the 6 goldfish and I was not denied the goldfish or sale. Terrible customer service and I will calling corporate when they open in the morning. read more

Just want to share my dissatisfaction with one employee when asked politely to open the door since I dropped off my pup at Banfield, there was no response, no eye contact. I thank her twice before leaving the place and still didn't get any response, smile or eye contact. That was an awful experience! Pathetic service. We took our pet here for grooming and will never ever choose this place again. I asked them to cut 1/2 inch, but they literally shaved him fully. They cut one eye brow and didnt cut other. They threw his soresto flee collar and when asked about it, they said "sorry we lost it and i think someone threw it". How insane is that. I got a gift card from one of grand-paws friends so I had grand-paw drive me her and I picked out some treats, grand-paw gave the cashier my gift card and I got my treats, I couldn't wait until we got home so as soon as we were in the car I made grand-paw open then so I could sample them. We are new dog owners (4 y.o. Husky mix rescue) and new to PetSmart. We have been so impressed with this store. They have a great selection of affordable dog food, toys, and other necessities. In addition, the staff is very friendly and helpful. Today, we had a private lesson with trainer, Tory, who is phenomenal! She was so good with our dog and we learned a great deal about getting him to follow commands through positive reinforcement related to not pulling on his leash when walking. We highly recommend Tory and will be signing up for her group training classes that cover multiple other commands for manners and appropriate behavior. Thank you PetSmart! read more

Took my dog Cairo to get groomed - and this is what i ended up with (see pics) - my dog got injured while under their care and they had the nerve to (1) call me and say he is bleeding and if i could come pick him up and take him to a vet because their vet, Banfield, did not have any room to which I replied "you actually expect me to come and put my dog in the car bleeding and drive around town to find a vet to take care of him when he got injured under your care?" (2) they would only cover the cost this time, but any additional cost for follow-up visits would be at my expense - to which I replied "yeah right". Now when they told me that he was bleeding and he would not stop bleeding I asked did he need stitches and they replied no but one week later when I took him for his follow up visit the doctor informed me that he was still bleeding and needed stitches, and that they would have to sedate him to put the stitches in and the cost would be $447 now the doctor said since he got injured at Petsmart, PetSmart would pay for it but a few minutes later the nurse comes in and says that PetSmart would not be covering the cost and I can either pay the $447 to have him sedated and stitched or they could just change the Band-Aid. Of course I said no if he needs stitches you're gonna do stitches but I'm not gonna pay for it. PetSmart is gonna pay for it, can you please go get the store manager and she agreed I sat there for about 20 minutes (manager was probably talking to her District Manager) and eventually the store manager comes in and tells me that they will pay for the procedure, but going forward I will be responsible for the cost and I can no longer bring my dog to PetSmart for grooming, my response was "so in retaliation for you having to do what is legally your responsibility (if your pet gets injured while in someone else's care, the person who's care that pet is under is responsible) you are going to penalize us by banning us from coming back (but of course, why would I wanna bring my dog back to them for grooming). I went on further to say that "not one time did anyone call to check on Cairo - and initially you wanted me to pay for it". So the moral of the story is "if you take your dog to Petsmart and your dog gets injured because of their negligence or not, you will either pay for those damages out of your own pocket or be prepared to never be able to bring your dog back to PetSmart. Now how is that for CUSTOMER SERVICE? By the way, I took Cairo for his second follow-up visit and his tail is still not healed - they see more blood which means he still has to wear that bandaid on his tail and that cone on his head. Perhaps it's because they failed to render proper care by neglecting to give him stitches in the first place. BUT TRUST ME THIS IS BY NO MEANS OVER! read more

called to do a self wash and was told that if I got there after 5:15, I'd have to be done by 6. so I drove 2 minutes and got there at 5:31. I was told that they take the last customer at 5:30 and that even though I was told something different in the phone, that they do have that listed on the front door. I'd never been there before so I'd never seen the front door. the store is open until 7 and the self dog wash needs to be done by 6. I told them that I would be done by 6 and there were 2 tubs open but they still said that was "the rule". I will never go there for anything and neither should you. the worst customer service I've ever seen. the manager should be fired. read more

First time taking my puppy to get groomed, and Gerry at this location did an exceptional job! My Ziggy was timid at first but quickly warmed up to the crew here. I love the fact that everyone seems to have a passion for pets, professional, and experts at what they do. The parking lot is huge. Park further away if you don't want any car next to you. I walked around inside. There is a pet hospital inside. Wow, that's very nice. While many customers bring their pets into the store, air is good and not smelley. I bought some more fish today. I was gonna buy one a fish but decided to buy two fishes so they can play together. This review is solely based on their live animal sales. DO NOT BUY any live animals from this store or else you will regret the costly vet bills that follow. ALL animals sold at pet smart come from horrible animal mills. Mass produced with terrible genetics. We got two bearded dragons 3 years ago and after $$$ spent, they came down with extremely rare fatal diseases. One had gout after 1 year!! Just had to put down my other one after 3 years. Im extremely sad and devastated. Did everything by the book but they are predisposed to diseases because of their genetics! I've seen so many poor bearded dragons on display at this store that look like their dying. Same goes for the rats, hamsters, birds, etc. Do a google search on where Pet Smart pets come from, you will be shocked! If everyone signed petitions and stoped buying these animals Pet Smart would be forced to stop. Encourage rescue only adoptions. Educate the public on the importance of adoption. Support local rescues and allow them to hosts more adoptions for ALL animals at your store instead. Never buy, always adopt from a rescue. Go to PetFinder or AdoptAPet dot com. The store is located the large shopping plaza right off of Sepulveda Blvd. in El Segundo. Due to the fact that there are a number of businesses located in the shopping plaza, they have a very large parking lot, thus parking will never be a problem. The great thing about this location is due to the fact that there is so many other important businesses surrounding it, you will be able to do all of your shopping in one location. The staff at this location is always happy to help you with any questions you have. And, due to the fact it is such a large chain store, you will be able to find all of the things you need for your pet. They have a very large selection of items for your cat, dog, fish, and pretty much everything else. Therefore, this is a highly recommended location and a good place to get all the things you need. read more
