The trainers here are fantastic, the class sizes are small, and the price is lower than other places. Our dog loves it and has learned so much, so quickly. The trainers are really patient and will spend extra time wherever it's needed, and we plan to continue the whole training series. read more

I took my cute fluffy dog there - unfortunately got Alexandria. My dog had matted fur - which always happens with her and other groomers still managed to style her without shaving her completely. This lady shaved all of her hair -splotchy and uneven - can see skin and took all the hair off her tail as well. I wanted to cry for my poor poochy. So if you don't mind a complete shave and no styling - use this place. If you want professional styling - go somewhere else. Unbelievable I had to pay for them to do this to my dog! read more

This Petco seems to operate at whatever hours they want to. The store currently has a sign up that says "Store Operating Hours: Friday: 9:00am - 7:00pm" but if you look at their hours on Google or Yelp, that says they are open until 9pm. Please do your customers a favor and keep the hours listed for your store online up to date. I've been sitting outside the store writing this review for the last 5 mins and have seen three customers walk up to the doors and walk away angrily upon seeing the sign. It's really uncool to have to drive all the way to your store to find this out. The last time I came at 7:30pm they supposedly had flooding so they were closed that day too. Once before that they had a sign on the door that said "Temporary hours: open until 5pm" (on a Tuesday). I just can never seem to catch this store open. Employees are usually unfriendly and unhelpful too. The Petco employees and store in general on Arroyo in Pasadena is much better. read more

Petco is the worst thing to happen to pets. I am speaking on behalf of the reptile and amphibian population (yes, they have made me their ambassador) They mix species together that are toxic (bombina orientalis with hyla cinerea!!??) They use the wrong substrate for most of the animals, and the staff is just plain ignorant. I have actually yet to find a decent pet shop for reptiles and amphibians. Buy direct from the breeders and save the heartache of another dead animal. I don't have a dog, bird or cat anymore, so I am not sure on the other stuff they have. read more

I like that this petco has more chew toys available for my pup then my Petsmart in Alhambra which is sometimes low on stock on anything . It's a pet shop with supplies. Nothing too surprising... Reasonably clean. Some lady's dog decided to poop in the middle of the store. There was an employee who immediately spotted it, cleaned it, and immediately disinfected it too. I wish they had better reception for Verizon in here... I have my dogs groomed here every 6 weeks. I always ask for Tino! He is very good with them. I have 3 Mini Schnauzers and they are happy to go and be groomed. They come out looking clean and their hair cuts are amazing! I would highly recommend the grooming services Tino provides at Petco, La Canada. read more

I don't usually go to Petco for my pet needs, but sometimes they have something on sale, so I go occasionally. The staff is friendly and they asked to help carry my puchase to the car. I went to Petco today with my wife to get a setup for my new addition to the family a baby cockatiel female. While we were walking through the aisles, an employee by the name of Jack assisted us and was actually amazing help, he was very informative and knew what he was talking about we ended up spending like $70 because the way Jack explained the stuff that they love to play with. Its nice to know the there are people like him working there because it makes the experience that much better. read more

I have a few separate departments to mention here. First, our experience with Tanya for training has been nothing short of phenomenal. We had a two year old rescue Chihuahua that needed some fine tuning on training, we bought 4 private sessions and Tanya is just incredible. Our Chi is about perfect now. We then rescued an absolutely wild mutt from the pound. We need to train her as well as integrate the dogs because it's definitely NOT been love at first sight for either one of them. We bought more private sessions. Within 5 minutes on our first session with both dogs together, Tanya had them both sitting inches apart and eating mouth to mouth from her hand. They both followed all of her commands immediately. It was absolutely stunning - this lady truly has a gift for this. I cannot say enough about how amazing Tanya is and how much she's helped make our little family so much happier and more peaceful. The grooming staff does a great job grinding my Chi's nails, I use whoever they have available because I never make an appt. they always get her right in and do a great job with her, my dog never minds going with them to have it done. They're friendly, the grooming area is clean, they're great with my pooch and quick with her nails which they get nice and short. The store is newly remodeled and is very nice. They have a great selection and everyone who works there has been incredibly friendly and helpful every time we've been in there. This is the best Petco I've ever been to. Tanya is the real gem here though, i don't know how we would get these dogs where we want them to be without her. I can't express my gratitude enough for what she does. She doesn't just make training so much fun, it's genuinely effective. Families are better because of her. That may sound dramatic, but it's truly how I feel. read more

I remember when this store first opened (a bajillion years ago) and it was a huge thing for La Canada because we, at the time, didn't have many chain stores. Anyways, it was fun to have a pet store in the city where as a child I could go and gawk at all the great fish. Honestly though, when I used to buy goldfish from them, they didn't last but a couple weeks and I had to bring the dead carcass back for an exchange only for it to happen again and again. Most things in here is quite expensive compared to what you can find online or at other less prominent pet stores. However, they do provide the benefit of convenience for someone living in town or shopping at Trader Joe's. Parking lot is often packed. They have birds and small mammals for sale as well. read more

The grooming takes forever. I don't know why they ask to drop off my dog before 3hrs they start grooming. They keep poor dogs in cage before starting grooming usually 3hrs ago. I don't understand why they want to keep dogs for a long time even before start. I won't never get my dog groomed at petco again! read more

I thought I had struck gold when bf told me there's a Petco in the vicinity, but the store is one of the smallest Petcos I've ever seen and thus doesn't carry a wide variety of pet supplies. The grooming salon rejects your dog if they are old and dirty. They do turn you down in the nicest way possible though.

If I could give les than one star, I would. I used to take my Yorkie to the Petco in Pasadena and after Anthony relocated to to Petco in La Canada, I decided to go there. He was great! Well he is no longer there and neither are the other two groomers who did a good job after he left. But, I decided to give the others a chance. MISTAKE! My poor dog looked a hot mess. The girl who cut her hair seemed to have no idea how to groom a yorkie. One leg had more hair than the other and her hair was choppy all over. NEVER HAVE YOUR DOG GROOMED THERE IF IT HAS LONGER HAIR...THEY WILL CUT IT ALL OFF!!!! read more

I want to say that Jack G has great customer service skills and was wonderful to work with. I had just lost my 10 inch plecostomus and needed my water tested. He tested it thoroughly and told me to come back in a few days after I did another water change. I just had it tested again by Jack and it is improving. He gave me some great advice on caring for my fish and his attitude was great. I was really impressed with him and he knows what he is doing and really wants to share helpful hints. read more

The location of this Petco is probably its best selling point. As far as Petco stores go, it's one of the smaller ones, but I like it better than Petco's Unleashed chain since it stocks stuff for all major categories of pets. That being said, most of the people who shop here live in La Canada, meaning that they either own cats or dogs, so the other sections (fish, reptiles, rodents, birds) are all much smaller than at normal Petco or Petsmart stores. However, the only pets I own fall into the latter more specialized category, so that's what I'm reviewing. This is the closest Petco to me, not to mention that I like the Trader Joe's next to it, so I've been coming here for over a decade now. In the past, they used to have more live animals, mostly fish and rodents, but also some reptiles and hermit crabs. Now all they sell is a reduced fish section and some birds. A few years ago, the fish section was really bad; there were always lots of dead fish and the tanks were pretty dirty, but it's improved as of two or three years ago, so although their selection isn't that great, it's more professional looking. However, there are better places to buy fish, and very few hobbyists who are serious about keeping fish will ever buy anything here. They do guarantee their live fish though, which you usually don't see in mom-and-pop stores. As far as supplies go, they carry all of the standard stuff: tanks, substrates, fake plants, filters, heaters, thermometers, other decorative items, etc. Pricing is really not competitive though; if you're buying stuff for fish or reptiles, I guarantee you that it's cheaper at a reptile store or Amazon, even after the PALS discount. They do discount stuff at a higher rate after New Year's. The customer service can best be described as 'meh.' They aren't as attentive as other chain stores, so although I actually prefer not to be asked every five minutes if I need help, this is a big distinction for most beginner aquarists between mom-and-pop stores and chain stores (the latter tend to be way more attentive / servicing). There's usually only one register open, so lines can stack up (especially when people are buying a lot of canned food). The employees are kind of in and around the store, but you don't notice them much. I would say that I wouldn't trust their advice if you're looking to get into the reptile / amphibian or fish hobby more seriously. Not many of their associates have much, if any, experience with the animals they sell, and most of the "advice" is regurgitation of a bare-bones care sheet that the company provides. They'll also recommend what they sell, not necessarily what's best, so do your research if you're just starting out with a project. read more

My wife took our miniature schnauzer to get groomed today. When I picked him up, if it wasn't our dog, I wouldn't be able to recognize the breed. For some unknown reason the groomer shaved his legs. They have absolutely no idea of what cut is proper for a particular breed. My wife asked before hand and was assured the groomer knew what a schnauzer cut was. If you have a mutt and don't care what he looks like, by all means come here. If you are paying for a particular cut, and don't want your dog butchered, STAY AWAY!!!!!!! read more

I've been a customer since the La Canada store opened. The employees have always been courteous, friendly, and helpful. I've been through their dog training program (wonderful experience!) and have found what I have needed - from new-born kitten milk replacement to supplements for geriatric cats and dogs - as well as the normal day-to-day food, supplements, toys, treats and flea treatment. When my daughter came home with a little turtle (later found out he was an endangered species) they had all the equipment and food he needed to thrive and grow. (I went through the process of becoming eligible to keep him.) If a human customer saw a pee spot or a pile of poop, why didn't he or she tell someone so it could be cleaned up? Or, why didn't the pet's owner either clean it up or ask someone to do it? The only problem it the store's location. The parking is a nightmare. I wish the designers of the entire parking lot would have to use it daily for a year- finding a spot, trying to inch in, then trying to safely get out during their busy times, which is almost all day. If Petco was in the Ralphs parking lot, I would have given it 5 stars. read more

I have been coming to this Petco for over 10 years, and had a horrific experience at the groomer here recently that changed everything. I brought my 6 month old Golden Retriever puppy for a bath. He had gone previously and we had a great experience. When I arrived for the pickup time, he wasn't dried yet. When they started to dry him, my puppy started to panic and got scared of the dryer. Rather than stop or try to help the situation, the man very aggressively held my very scared puppy down and proceeded to struggle with him in a way too violent manner. At one point my dog was even hanging off the grooming table by the collar around his neck. I was horrified and yelled for him to stop, that I would take him home as he was. The man looked at me, unhooked my dog, and then proceeded to move him out of my sight and keep drying him. I have never been so angry! I finally got my dog back and left. I will never, ever tell anyone to trust the groomer here with their dogs. Despicable. read more

My goldfish were perfectly fine until I bought some live plants from petco, the naxt day I woke up all of my fish had fungus growing on them. I had to go out and spend extra money to buy the medication and it would be a 50/50 chance that they would survive. I really wish that I had not bought those plants from petco or my fish would all be fine, instead they will most likely die.
