The worst! I've never purchased a pet at a pet store but my daughter HAD to have a dwarf hamster they were selling. Long, sad story short...we had to euthanize the sweet little baby hamster yesterday. Apparently, she was sold to us sick. I spoke to the manager who could not have been less helpful or compassionate. We only had the hamster for two weeks but somehow our 'contract' couldn't be found. This manager told me they don't have a filing system... not by name or date. They just throw paperwork in a pile. I say that's a pile of crap! Anyway, we spent over $300 (6 times what it cost for the hamster and supplies) at a small animal hospital and my daughter is heartbroken. The vet said not to purchase any pets from a pet store unless they're working with a rescue organization. So pissed off. read more

My puppy Sunset just finished her training level one class and Adrain was our trainer. He's great! Actually, I met him the first day I got my puppy. While picking out some supplies I was sharing with him that I just rescued a puppy Pitbull and that I was unfamiliar with the breed. He in return told Me about his sweet Pitbull and that he was actually one of the trainers at the store. I signed Sunset up for classes.. she and I have learned so much! Adrian is a great trainer and pays close attention to your concerns, questions and most of all your dogs needs . You can tell he truly cares for the dogs he trains and loves his job. I made an appointment in November to get my dog's vaccines based on price. The day of our appt (19Dec), while i was in the parking lot waiting, I got a call from them to reconfirm. I asked the lady to reconfirm the price and she gave me a higher price. I told her that was wrong, as i had booked at a lower rate. She then said prices went up last week! I never got a call prior to being there about a price increase. I did not have enough money in my bank so was forced to now just put it on a credit card to be able to afford the new price. I tried talking to management and they said there was no manager on site?. Really? Then a manager called me back and said there was nothing she could do. It was a take it or leave it situation. I followed up with corporate but have yet to hear back from them! This is the AWFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!! read more

You can do your pets' shopping, then do yours..:) Its always clean in here and there are always staff around to help you find stuff or get that 70lb dog food bag. They also offer grooming too, but I heard they aren't so good in that department. I believe PetSmart is slightly cheaper, but this location works for me. read more

My 8yo won some goldfish in a game. It seems to be common knowledge that goldfish are prone to perish quickly. I don't like to pester people with a million questions but I like to talk to human beings rather than googling all the time. So, I called and talked to someone about how I can give the goldfish the best possible quality of life. I swear, I talked to the goldfish whisperer! I didn't catch the guys name but he was incredibly helpful. He told me what to do, what to buy and added some good information about their behavior, sensitivities and what they enjoy in their tank. Additionally, they offer curbside pickup! I called and let them know I was there in the parking lot. I was told that my order wasn't ready yet so I expected to wait a while. My order was brought out in less than 5 minutes. I'm not sure if this was my lucky day, or they're always this good but they definitely earned a returning customer. read more

The selection at this Petco seems to be fairly limited. For example, I went in a few weks ago to find a Martingale collar for my GSD, and there were only two kinds available. I left with the slightly manlier option - a dark pink collar for my male dog (the other choice was a baby pink collar). Just today, I went in to look for a treat bag, and again there were only two kinds available - one that was fairly giant for my frame and another that seemed to be the right size but unfortunately did not come with a waistband. Additionally, this Petco seems a bit dirtier and worn-down, and is also located in a strip mall where parking can be tough to find at times. read more

If you return an item past 30 days that is unused they will not take it back or even give you a credit. It was an expensive item . They won't even work with you at all. I have spent a lot of money with them over the years, I have never returned anything until now and this is the type of customer service you get. There are plenty of other pet stores. I will take my business elsewhere. They obviously don't care as there are a lot of dog and cat owners out there, losing one customer is not going to make a difference to them. The Petco Grooming Team always does a great job on my Chocolate Lab! Very friendly staff that greets each "customer" with a smile and also polite to the customer's owner as well. I have never had a problem of getting a same day weekend appointment. Just be flexible and not rushed as I usually leave my Lab for about 2-4hrs depending on how busy they are. (Petco is located on Foothill Bl, right off the 210fwy at Gould Ave. For the dog owner, Petco is between a Starbucks and a Trader Joe's so you can get a treat for yourself while your 4 legged friend is getting fancied up! The only downfall is the parking lot is tiny and packed.) I pay $31 for a bath and an additional $30 for a deshedder which is a must with a Lab. My Lab always comes home happy & smelling great! read more

Today was our first time at this Petco and we will be back. We made an appointment today to get our big fur baby - golden retriever - his shots since his vet was booked and we were on a restricted timeline. Last night I went to petco in La Canada to get my cat two litter boxes and litter. First I looked for the litter pans the employee told me where it was and it was there they had only small ,large, jumbo pans. I choose two small ones for the price each was $5.99 I asked then if they had any little bags to put over the pans they said they didn't carry small ones for small pans. Only big ones. I was like but why? Oh well... Both times I asked two different employees for help they were both nice about it and helping me out which I liked. They have a huge cat selection and it's nice because it's that whole section you see on the photos I posted up here and I loved it because cats are important to have there only sections too. I was looking through the aisles and I was happy to find so many things I'll definitely come back here because i found what I needed. Not everything but 2/3 items is not bad. Other petcos like the one on arroyo has a small cat section we are talking about 3 aisles and that's about it and half a side of the wall for perches. I saw this one it had so many perches and I could find everything here. Coming back for more cat items soon! They even shaved 2$ off for having a pal rewards card :) read more

tldr: messy store, unhelpful employees, long waits in empty checkout lines, poor treatment of animals in their care, poor selection of dog harnesses, insensible no returns policy today petco lost my business forever. especially the store in la cañada on foothill, but also every other petco. why? -poor, unethical, immoral treatment of animals, including the cats left out on display for hours in small exposed cages with nowhere to hide; and the male rodents caged together even though that leads to death fights -extremely inadequate selection of quality dog harnesses, especially in smaller sizes --most of those available are cheap nylon with plastic fasteners, aside from the relatively large section of poorly-made, premium-sticker-price reddy products. if you want a small dog harness with metal fasteners for, say, a hyperactive puppy, you just won't find it here, or at any petco -disorganized store, especially in the front area with dog toys, harnesses and leashes -barely any employees in the store at any given time making it difficult to find assistance and requiring long waits in an empty checkout line before the register employee shows up -petco corporate is refusing to accept any returns, but petco on foothill in la cañada has NOT required store employees to notify customers of this new policy at the check out stand when the purchase is made, which is really scummy and which the store manage openly admits to ("we have a sign out") --all this does is help amazon and hurt customers, many of whom will never return their items after the pandemic ends because lots of time will have passed, and losing receipts and forgetting to complete a return is more and more likely with each day that passes. if they cared about customers at all they would tell their employees to inform said customers about the no returns policy PRIOR to paying, but they haven't, don't and won't. because-- *petco is deliberately subsidizing its pandemic-related financial losses through the no-return policy, since they know most customers won't ever complete the return under these conditions.* refusing returns does nothing to keep employees or customers safe if petco will not also prohibit in-store browsing and purchasing. the policy is a sham and a farce. businesses need to respond to this crisis ethically, proportionately and sensibly--blanket bans on returns while *still allowing customers inside to shop* is neither ethical nor proportionate nor sensible. it's a knee-jerk imbecilic response to a complex crisis. go to petsmart or, ugh, amazon, instead. read more

Beware this store is very rigid on hours. I arrived at the store at 8 pm thinking they had their previous closing time at 9 pm. There was someone at the door who said the store was closed. I told him I was just there to pick up an online order. He still refused to allow me to enter to pick up the order--which was previously paid for, so all that needed to be done was to hand me the order from the cabinet or storage locker. He is the grooming manager and let me tell you that title is well earned. I have never met a groomer who even comes close to Tino's skill level. I have recommended him to al my friends who now bring their dogs to him and love it. I know people always say this about the person that they are reviewing even when they don't really have a clue. This is a specific review for training with Tanya. We love Tanya and are so lucky to have found her. We have a large great dane/lab mix who isn't the best with other dogs when he (or they) are on leash. We chose to do training with Tanya when she spoke confidentiality about her own large breed dogs and we knew she could handle our pup. We wanted to do group classes but quickly discovered that wouldn't be a good match and Tanya has been doing private training with us since. Our pup loves her and is showing fabulous progress. Also, let's be real, dog training is as much about the human as it is the dog. Tanya has done a fabulous job teaching us skills and gently pointing out areas of growth. She doesn't critique, she just helps us see ways we could respond better. You and your dog are lucky to go to Tanya, she is amazing! read more

His level of information was not only impressive, it was helpful and fun. He made the purchase of my son's fish a piece of cake and we came out feeling knowledgeable and secure that our son will be able handle 'the how to care' for his Betta Fish. I like this store cause it's very convenient for me, it's just walking distance from where I work at.. also they have lots of beta fish and cute different fishes.. I met the guy who works at the fish area he helped me a lot and gave me lots of advice about which tank and what ever they have on special... the only thing I didn't like about this place is they don't have a lot of staff and the go back carts are always filled and everywhere... the lines can also be a long wait at times cause they will only open 1 or 2 register.. read more

Came in middle of the day when it wasn't busy. I may have been only one of two customers there. It wasn't crowded but there was no one really working. Didn't get helped at all. I was there for a good thirty minutes. Customer service is a hit or a miss. Sometimes it's ok but this is ridiculous. I left because I needed a nap and couldn't wait any longer. I think I'll go to Anderson's pet shop on Honolulu in Montrose just ten minutes away. Selection isn't great at either place necessarily but quality and service is always good at Anderson's. I choose to go to petco because it's so close to home and next to a Starbucks and Trader Joe's but not worth the annoyance. They need to have more workers on the floor helping ppl and in the fish dept. There's never anyone there. Or put a button there so we can ring if we need service. read more

When I walked in the doors I was happily greeted by the girl at the register; great way to walk in any store. Shopped around for my dogs, cat, and soft shell turtle and found exactly what I need!!! This place was awesome!!! They have tons of stuff for almost any pet, great staff, super clean, and very well organized. I was fully explained how the dog classes work and I'm excited to sign my dog up...who knew, dog training classes at the local pet store, I guess I know now, lol!!! I agree with most the reviews. The harnesses for small dogs are non existent like most of the employees, Especially the one rude little green haired girl. I think her name is Crystal . She's never there on the weekends or at the store in general. Only a tall skinny guy and a heavy set fellow I've seen recently . She seems to always call out since I have to reschedule my dogs most of the time. Recently I had to reschedule, she had to leave for the day for personal reasons and we rescheduled just for her to not be at work again and leaving me like an idiot looking for an available groomer. Thankfully the tall guy took my dog in. I get we're in a pandemic but when I am there and see Crystal she has no work ethic. She denied taking in my dog claiming she was busy when she was just talking to other groomers and on her phone. Why bother paying someone who clearly doesn't want to work. Visited this Petco and was served by Felipe, he was unfriendly, unhelpful and should defiantly not work as a sales person if he is unwilling to help. We asked if there was a bowl of water like other stores do for pets. He rudely responded so you want me to go get water for you? He didn't even know if the store carried Blue Buffalo(dog food brand) he said he is unable to check on the computer if they do or not, I know they do but I needed a particular one which I always get at Petcon but being new to this store I couldn't find it and asked at the front desk. He was unwilling to help me find it and simply ignored my questions and responded rudely, didn't want to be asked questions or do anything to help. read more

I've been to a lot of pet stores and this one by far is the best I've seen. The customer service was great and the staff was happy to answer all my questions. The store was clean, organized, and very well stocked. I just got a new puppy (Pecos Bill) and they told me everything I need for him. They told me about the dog training classes and I'm definitely going to come back to sign up.
