They completely butchered my Lab's extremely simple hair cut, and then still wanted us to pay for it. After several rounds of the blame game, in which this little weasel didn't have a leg to stand on, he finally said he'd give us a discount on the cut. My bf paid for it and then began the painful process of calling me back at home to tell me what happened. After just calling the store and speaking with a manager, Kimberly, it turns out the groomer we were dealing with was actually the grooming manager. He was a MANAGER and didn't feel compelled to at MINIMUM comp the cut? I will never step foot in another Petco again, and this 'manager' is reason numero uno. The ONLY reason we took the dog there in the first place is because Petco advertises that their groomers are trained and go to school for grooming specifically. I frequent Petco pretty often whether it be to buy dog food, treats or to get my dogs groomed. The staff is very friendly and they even remember my dog's name. Their location is convenient and I'm typically in and out. Making appointments to get my dog groomed can be pretty lengthy though. I typically have to schedule appointments 1-2 weeks in advance and when you have a stinky dog that is just too far out. If they had more dog grooming appointments available I would have rated them five stars. read more

We showed up here on the drive from SoCal to Phoenix with a dog that was panting, drooling and overall unhappy with the whole I'm-stuck-in-a-car-thing. Forget that Petco is an enormous company - this place was an oasis for my golden retriever in a 109 degree day. Anne was a gentle soul who gave me some suggestions for what I might get our dog and gave the dog affection and attention. David was the sales associate and got our dog a bowl of water and some treats from the snack bar. I'm typically no fan of big box but I would come back here in a heartbeat; whomever is managing this place is hiring the right people or training them right. Took my dog to this Petco and the employees were friendly. I was looking for treats and came across a bag of rawhide bones that were infested with black bugs. I immediately went to an employee and told her and she didn't look surprised. She said she would get someone on it. I then went to the back of the store for dog food and noticed black bugs in a bag of "on sale" treats. I again told the same girl and she said ok. I decided to tell another employee and they thanked me and I left without buying anything. Gave it one more try a few months later and again there were bags of rawhide bones with black bugs in them and also on the floor. I again told an employee and she said "oh yeah those bugs" and said she'd take care of it. I won't go in that Petco again. read more

I love taking my dogs (Winston & Maggie) to get groomed at the Indio Petco. I know they are well taken care of and in good hands. Even though I have recently moved out of the Indio area, I just can't see myself taking my dogs to any other Petco. Andrew is the person I normally schedule my dogs with and they love seeing him(even Winston who is so timid and scared of everything). All of the employees I have dealt with at the Indio store over the last 8+ years have been such a great help no matter what my concerns are. A big "SHOUT OUT" to all those at the Indio store. This store needs to be seen by Petco corporate. It's marine aquatic department (if you want to call it that) is absolutely atrocious. It is completely under kept, everything is dying, and whoever is running the department has absolutely NO IDEA what they're doing; It is complete abuse to the animals. I have a saltwater tank at home and bought one of their corals, thinking I could restore it back to health, but it was so far gone there was nothing I could do. Petco wouldn't refund me either and the coral was listed at 30 dollars! I will never shop here again. read more

I live right in the area of Petco and I was so excited to have one less than a mile away. You can definitely get everything you need for your pets under one roof. I've bought 100's of dollars worth of food and merchandise for my dogs there and never once had any problems with returns or exchanges. The employees there are so eager to help and assist you (which is why I'm giving them 2 stars) I am just extremely disappointed with the animal trainer, Alma. I prepaid for some puppy training for my Doberman. We scheduled it to be every Sunday @ 1pm (that is the only time she was available so that my husband and I could do it together). The first week, she wasn't expecting us till 2pm..however since we were there at 1, she took us at our original scheduled time. We made verbal agreements to meet there every Sunday @ 1pm. We showed up the following Sunday to find out she wasn't coming to work till 1:45pm, so we spoke to an employee and said we'd be back the following Sunday @ 1pm for our 2nd week of training. We were not upset just disappointed. We went again the following Sunday, hoping she'd remember but no, she forgot us once again. By then we were very irritated and annoyed. I simply asked for my money back and left. Needless to say, I am not sure if I will return to that store. read more

Being that this was Boots first bath and nail trim I was a little nervous how she would react but the first thing I noticed was how well we were treated by our groomer when we arrived. he got down to Boots level as she is a small dog and got to know her before taking her back. He answered all our questions and made us feel quite comfortable. He said he would call us as soon as she was done, about an hour and it was almost exactly an hour when we got the call. We told him we were running some errands, he said no worries, take your time. He did an excellent job on her nails & ears and said that she did really good. Beware of the woman manager. Rude and very unprofessional! This store used to have great customer service as we have been a customer for 8 years. Friendly management, friendly employees! I have never had to exchange anything until recently. We bought a dog collar in the wrong size. But needed to exchange the collar for a smaller size. We rescued another doggie. When we bought it, we were not given a receipt. But didn't want our money back, just to exchange it the very next day. Nope! Not allowed. Even though they knew we bought it there. The manager said there were no exceptions even though we weren't given a receipt. They lost an 8 year customer. And she was extremely rude. Very unfortunate. However Petsmart in La Quinta is wonderful! And now will get all of our business. Customer service matters! They should know this as a local business. read more

I would have to disagree with the other posts. I went to the newer PetCo about a month or so ago... and they completely butchered my dogs hair cut... My dogs came out looking like they had mange disease... Last week I returned, for some odd reason, to give them a second chance. They had a new groomer in this time. She did an AMAZING job on all three of my dogs! They came out looking like they were ready for a dog show. She even tied a "halloween" ribbon around her collar. Very resonable on the price, had my dog in & out in under 2 hours. I will definatley be going back! Hope this is helpful. read more

Purchased dog food here on 3 separate occasions and discovered worms in the dog food every single time - spoke with the manager and she advised this is an on going problem that can not be solved because the bugs come from the dog food companies? I believed her at the time and she offered me a $5.00 off coupon on my next visit. I returned a 3rd time & found live worms, bugs, maggots and 'flying' things/flys on every shelf of dog and cat food in the store - every single shelf! I kid you not. I showed the manager the infestation and explained the dog food companies are not the issue the store is and her response was "there's nothing I can do about it - what is the point of showing me?" I then explained to the manager I had gotten a 'meal-worm' infestation at my home from their bags of dog and cat food, and had to call in a pest control company who treated the problem 3 times before it was cleared up, that I'm sure if she called a pest control company they could fix the issue as well. She said "I don't have time for this" and walked off...Needless to say I will never return and I am not lying about the meal worm infestation I got at home from this store - simply disgusting and uncaring staff... also the store was not kept in optimal condition each time I visited there was urine and feces laying down the aisles... and I don't mean oops a dog went potty clean up on aisle 3 please potty. I mean as in dried old urine stains and dried dog lumps that had obviously been laying there for day/days at a time uncleaned. All in all the worst pet store ever with employees who have no knowledge of the products being sold and a rude, unhelpful, uncaring manager. read more

shoppped in this store since it opened. recently i had to return 4 bags of wellness dog food as they were infested with insects and lava. i also noticed they are infested with these same insects all over the bulk section of treats at the front of the store and on the shelves where the rawhide bones are located. i have contacted corporate and the store but without any satisfaction of having this resolved. they even told me that if the animal eats them it won't hurt them!! unbelievable!!! don't shop there!!! read more

I like the convient location of this due because it's right around the corner from my house. But the only negative I have about this store is the dog food. My dog only eats the pet fresh vital food from the cold section. My dog has been eating it for a few years now. So I know what it is suppose to look & feel like giving it comes in a tube & have to cut a section of food for each serving. The way it comes at this store in disgusting. Even if the food is in date it's mushey & oozing with juice/ liquid like it's very old & breaking down. Usually it's firm & never oozing juice/ liquid. My dog wouldn't even eat it & that says a lot. He absolutely loves this food. Except when it comes from this particular store. I would give zero stars if I could for that reason. read more

She had been shaved to the point I could hardly recognize her; and they still were't finished. I finally got her at 6:00. Not a bad place to go if you need pet supplies. Being a saltwater hobbyist, I found their saltwater tanks in horrible condition. Hair algae all over their live rock and detritus everywhere on the sand bed. Although the conditions looked troubling, the employees and management seemed to care about improving the water condition. After making an appointment 3 weeks ago for the groomers, I was greeted rudely at the door by the same associate who took my reservation saying "You know we don't open till 9". When I told her I was there for my dogs 8:30 appointment she said, I didn't have one and I was probably at the wrong store. She let us in so she could check, and continued her with nasty attitude, when she asked what "I wanted done to the dog". I told her he needed everything, bath, nails, ears, but before I could even finish she said "Do you want him shaved?" I said no, and she responded with "Well that's not everything now is it?" We proceeded to leave after that I was not about to leave my dog with a woman who clearly hates her job, who knows what could have happened and how he would have been treated. read more

I took my husky mix in yesterday for a shave and groom. The young lady met us with no smile, and kept looking at the floor. My dog was an adoption and badly abused. I kept trying to explain his anxiety and she wouldnt look at me. I asked if he would be caged long and she said there was only 1 groomer on duty. Again I asked if he would be caged long ? (as it stresses him/ ) She said no. The truth was my dog was caged with no water for over 5 hours. The cut is ridiculous. His feet has long hairs that were missedand he has a 3 inch strip of hair that wasnt cut at all on his belly and in some places he has been shaved to the skin. He looks terrible. He also has a cut line on his head that makes him look like he has a hat on!!! I called the superviser and she said that I should bring him back at no charge...!!!! Really? How about a refund for bad service, my dog being kept without water, and a haircut a 5year old could have done better??? I am sorry there was only 1 groomer but thats not my problem. They need to hire more people or reschedule when the groomer is too tired. Not only will I never go back for grooming I will never go back to the store. They had lovely cats in cages for adoption in the front of the store and the litter was filthy. The poor kitties were stepping in feces. Ridiculous. Terrible store terrible attitude and bad management. I am stunned at the managers reaction.You would think she would want to see the dog that her groomer messed up but she didnt care one way or another. Someone from Corporate needs to do something about this store. My dog is precious to me and this staff is just not animal friendly. read more
