Animal Samaritan's neutered our dog Tucker on March 3rd. After we got Tucker home, we noticed he was dripping blood. I called Animal Samaritan's to see if we should bring Tucker back. This was at 3:00 and I knew they closed at 4:30. I wanted to bring him back while they were still open. I was told this was normal and not to worry. At 8:00 pm Tucker was still dripping blood. I took him to VEG ER. He would have lost a lot of blood overnight His vet costs were $4200. Animal Samaritan's refused to take any responsibility. Their post-operative care was negligent. read more

I had to bring our wonderful dog in on a Sunday to Animal Samaritans in Indio. I found every single person to be caring and competent in treating our dog and finding out what was wrong. He had to have some tests and be hooked up to IV fluid. They were compassionate and answered all of our questions. We did not know where to go as we do not live in the area, so we were very nervous about using an unknown vet. However, the two vets on staff on different days were both great. Service as expected. We had to put our 16 yr old Shitzu down. I called around the Desert checking pricing and procedure. Animal Samaritan has the easiest and the fairest pricing. The staff was empathetic and very nice. They were equipped to make the visit as least traumatic as possible for the humans and our elder dog. They were prepared to give us as much time as we needed in the process and that was nice to see that they were so concerned about us. We didn't need a huge amount of extra time it was just nice to not be rushed or feel rushed. The staff was loving and kind. And we were grateful. read more

Came here for a visit due to me thinking he had a uti turned out he was having kidney issues and diarrhea. I got there 9 am my appointment time staff was so helpful and attentive they provided so much help & possible reasons to his situation. Becky was out nurse & she was FUNTASTIC & FANTASTIC she helped me with questions & even after provided additional information of products that can help my dog pass these kidney problems to help him feel better i was about to pay 1000$ but Becky's magic words & the doctors words of taking him home give him the medication & seeing if in 3 days he'd be better if not bring him back. I am soo grateful it is now the 4th day & he's no longer got cloudy pee or nasty discharges of smell his stool is become hard like before & he seems full of energy! Came in for a routine vaccine for our pet, my wife had scheduled the appointment a month prior, I was on time for the appointment, check-in was not an issue, but had to wait for over an hour to get two simple vaccines for our pet. They were not under staffed, there were plenty of veterinarians and extra staff (volunteers) to help with the process of getting the vaccines done, but the issue is the waiting time. This place needs to understand &/or organize their staff for time-management better. read more

We will never forgive the clinic for the way we were treated when we brought in our dying cat. First of all, they had seen our cat previously, i.e. we were clients. That morning we found our elderly cat in pain and and immobile. We sadly took her to the clinic to be euthanized and was told by the front desk person we could not be seen. We explained we were clients but this made zero difference. We waited for over an hour hoping to be worked in. They would not take her. It was heartless and cruel. Don't go here whatsoever. Maybe go here until you can find better care elsewhere. I had gone for 2 visits and spent $1500. They wanted me to go to another location 3 hours away for an ultrasound (their technician was on vacation). They told me they were the only practice in the valley that had this special ultrasound that my dog needed. It would have been $900 at least. My dog's health would decline after each visit from the stress and from being off the care schedule I had him on. It would take 2 days to for my dog better after each visit (the 2 visits were spaced out in a week). During the visits, the wait times were at least 1-2 hours to be seen and then 2+ hours more for results. I was dissuaded from taking my dog home after their tests and had to wait there for the results. They did not want to give me the results over the phone. I knew my dog would not survive the travel to the other location. It would have put too much stress on him. It would be 3+ hours to get there then plus the waiting time to be seen as that location only did walk-ins. The trip to and from would have been 6 hours at least. I decided to get a second opinion at another clinic. They had called me to follow up on if I was going to their other location for the ultrasound. I told them I wouldn't be seeking their care anymore. They told me to have my dog hospitalized. I informed them that my dog would die from stress at a hospital and that I would be providing my dog care 24/7 as I had been. Then the nurse told me euthanizing my dog was an option. I declined and that seemed to upset her. If my dog was going to pass, then I wanted him to be at home when he did. She continued to press on and threatened that the vet I saw "could" call animal services to do a wellness check on my dog. I opted to wait instead for an appointment I set up at Dr. Clark James' practice. Which I'm glad I did because my dog is still alive. If I listened to them I have no doubt in saying that my dog would have died. My male dog had an enlarged prostate and needed to be neutered. They had the special ultrasound my dog needed and it was $300. They scheduled my dog for surgery for the following week. TLDR: Animal Samaritans only wants your money and they don't care about your pet. If your pet is not doing great, they will try to pressure you to euthanize and threaten you when you say "no". read more

Animal Samaritans is a complete sham of a business. They will write responses to negative reviews always blaming the pet owner. While using nice words which misrepresent their true intentions. Money is their true intention. They never accept any fault for their actions! I deeply regret having participated in a fund raising event a few years ago for this dishonest---organization! DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMALS TO THIS CLINIC! A local business owner myself, I'm very sensitive to online reviews. I know from personal experience, people will write dishonest reviews. I have never written a bad review for any business... but this bad review is necessary to hopefully protect someone else from being taken advantage of financially (or worse) by Animal Samaritans! Long story... but here is the readers digest version: I took my dog in for a teeth cleaning. I was told I would have to pay for the exam and then will be given a quote. The exam was $85. Upon arrival I had to hand over my credit card. The young woman at the front desk, told me they would hold my credit card number on file if further charges were approved by me. I told her no. I would give my card a second time, if other charges were necessary that day. They took my dog into their exam area. And told me the doctor would call me soon with the findings and estimate. When the call came in, as expected, the teeth cleaning was recommended. At this point, I asked for a quote. The Vet told me she would have the front desk contact me with the quote. I told her, I did not want anything else done until I had the quote in hand. I drove back to the clinic about 45 minutes after dropping my dog off. A young man came out from the back and said he was the vet assistant. He told me they were very busy with an emergency and he would send me the quote later that day. I agreed to wait for the quote. He told me I would have to "settle up" at the front desk before he would bring me my dog. The girl at the front desk told me she had some paperwork for me before I left. She then handed me an invoice for $440.00. And a credit card receipt for that same amount! I asked what this was for? She told me the doctor did blood work and prescribed pain meds for the after care (once the teeth cleaning had been performed.) I said I would not pay this bill.... I had not even seen a quote yet! She told me it was already charged to my credit card, which they held open. The same credit card I told her to not place any charges on it without my signature. Angry and concerned they would not give me my dog back, I didn't protest any further. I asked for my dog... they called back for the dog to be released. I did not hear anything about my price quote. Two days later I called their main office and complained to a woman who said she was the manager. Here comes the PRICE GOUGING: A few hours later I got the email quote for my dogs teeth cleaning: $2,494.89 (plus an additional cushion of 15%, at their option). Which would raise the potential bill to almost $3,000.00. And that's on top of the $440.00 they billed my card two days earlier. I've been having my dog's teeth cleaned every year for the last several years at Banning Vet Hospital. The entire bill runs from a low of $345.00 to about $650.00, occurring one year with some extractions. Unfortunately, Banning Vet Hospital could not book my dog in for three months. So, I took my dog to another vet the next day. He did the teeth cleaning and the entire bill, including an x-ray of my dog's back for an unrelated issue for $671.00 So, I'm out the money that Animal Samaritans overcharged me on the credit card. I did attempt to do a chargeback request on my credit card... but my bank said since I entered the card into their credit card machine there was nothing they could do... the rep at the bank suggested I sue them in court. Animal Samaritans also lied in writing to my credit card company... claiming they made a mistake on the first invoice, adjusted it by reducing the quote by $500.00. And lied again saying they never charge a credit card without customer approval. Animal Samaritans did send me another quote, reducing the amount by $500.00! At this point I didn't trust them at any amount. I felt like I was dealing with a bad used car dealer! As I said, I'm a local business owner. And I'm aware that customers will sometimes write dishonest reviews for whatever reason. But this negative review is well earned. Animal Samaritans should be ashamed of themselves. read more

I have been to three animal hospitals in the area and Animal Samaritans is by far the best. I called them Sunday morning, they immediately made me an appointment and I took my dog Charlie in. I only waited about 10 minutes to talk to the vet and dropped off Charlie. Dr. Gilabert was super nice and is very responsive via email. The staff are also very helpful and arranged for me to pick up my prescription in LA (I was visiting Palm desert for the weekend). Highly recommend this place :) read more

I have to highlight the kindness of the staff. Unfortunately, my reason for coming to Animal Samaritans was not a happy one. On Thursday, I brought my little boy, Manny, to be put down due to a myriad of illnesses and rapidly declining quality of life. I chose not to cremate him for personal reasons and I've since created a shadow box in his memory. The following Saturday, I received a voicemail saying that because I was so distraught at saying goodbye, they saved a clipping of his fur so I could have a piece to remember him by. I picked it up today, expecting to just get a small ziplock baggie with his fur in it. Instead, I received his fur in a tiny glass jar with a small gold paw-shaped charm. I had to sit in my car for a minute and cry it out before driving off. I can't express the depth of my gratitude enough. This seemingly small gesture plays a HUGE part in my grief and healing and I'm so happy to have a piece of him back with me. Your kindness won't be forgotten. read more

As much I appreciate them my experience is a little frustrating. I found this dog treading water in the lake in my community. He was to small to get out and I had to call the fire department to help me. This poor little man has 5 puncture wounds, bruised shoulders and ribs....but he is a fighter!! He is chipped and the owners do not want him. So I did what needed to be done to start the process of healing this dog and getting him ready for his forever home that I knew we could find. Took him to Animal Samaritan and the initial quotes was for over $900....I did not have $900.....I could afford $400. So I asked them what was most important to do....X-ray or bloodwork...they said X-ray so I said removed doing blood work and it brought the cost to $475. I paid that and my girlfriend went to work on getting donations to help reimburse me the $475.....I am unfortunately not at a place where I have xtra money and yet I was not going to help this dog and so the $475 was more than I could give yet I Had to do something. I share that so everyone understands the situation. As the donations starting coming in they said I would get reimbursed and any amount above the $475 I paid would stay as a credit on his account. A lil back Info....Animal Samaritan also said they would give $200 credit towards his care. So my $475 and their $200 credit would be $675.....but they have funky math...kinda like common core math...where it just doesn't make sense and you try to follow only to just give up because the more they talk the more it doesn't make sense but some how they get their math always gets the amount on the invoice and I'm more confused than ever!! Anyway....they said almost $800 was donated....and then when I got the invoice it showed they did the bloodwork....WTH!! I said no the bloodwork (which back fine and cost $300!!)....they said that as the donations came in they used it the pay for more work.....and they said I agreed to that....which I did not!! Sketchy!! So for $900 he got X-ray, bloodwork, antibiotics, pain meds. People donated over $1200.....I got a refund of $283. This post is not about the money....it's about they handled using the money and their lack of communication and transparency. The next day I had to take him to his forever home who could actually give him the care he needed as she was already cleared by a organization as a foster parent....so she had the support needed for his care and all vet expenses would be covered moving forward. We stopped at the vet that would be now caring for him in West Covina. They gave him a antibiotic shoot, all his vaccinations, rabies shot, and bandages his wounds.....you would have thought Animal Samaritan would have done that for $900!!! I won't use or recommend Animal Samaritan because they are not transparent with donations and their accounting is not accurate. Great people!! Horrible company philosophy!! read more

Manager was Extremely rude for no reason , While I was waiting for my turn there was another Custumer very frustrated and in the middle of an argument . Then when it was my turn the attitude was so impolite and arbitrary . I don't know if these employers are trained and even how they are raised as human beings to have become so disrespectful to costumers like that . I have been a donor to Animal Samaritans since I moved to US and will continue . I never had issues with any vet clinics before I moved to the desert. Excellent first experience! Extremely compassionate, patient, thorough, and absolutely zero pressure to buy prescriptions we couldn't afford or do costly diagnostics if not absolutely essential. Instead we were offered alternatives with consideration of our budget and also the reality of our senior dog's limited days. Dr Gilabert shared her own personal experiences regarding her beloved pets that were beyond treatment options and how making them comfortable was the best course of care. She put together a very inexpensive palliative care plan which has already brought soothing for both us and our dog. Every staff member made us feel heard and seen. From Jasmine, to Alex, Dr Gilabert and Lori. We received follow up calls offering additional solutions for our dog's mobility and care. This clinic truly went above and beyond and exceeded our expectations. Our only regret was not finding this clinic sooner. read more

Took my precious dog in because he wasnt feeling well. They told me they'd call me with a diagnosis. They called and said he needed to be euthanized so I left immediately to be there with him in his last moments. They kept me waiting out front for 45 minutes, then in a room alone for 20 minutes more without my dog. They brought him out dead as a door nail without letting me see him at all, all the while letting me rot out front for an hour. They didnt perform any euthanasia nor were they authorized to perform any other service on him without my presence. They just killed him with me stupidly being made to wait too long out front. They just brought me a dead dog in a dirty blanket (not mine). Gross. Then they tried to charge me for euthanasia drugs they didnt use, and cremation services I didnt buy. I buried him out in the desert. Please avoid Animal Samaritans. They'll kill your dog and then bill you for services they didnt render. I'm refusing payment on that, and writing complaints on Yelp, the BBB, and anywhere else people care for dogs. I asked for the police and a manager (out to lunch) after a non-employee tried to pick a fight with me in the lobby. Im not the bar brawl type. That describes their other clientele not me. The officer being called helped me recuperate Dash's dead body, and we discussed how my role as Public Safety Commissioner and news media personality locally made the call necessary if unfortunate. I thanked the officer. The clinic was informed by the officer that not only would I never subject a pet to what they did to Dash, but that I would make sure my voice would be heard as I shared my experience there with as many people who want and may need to know. The clinic NEVER reached out to me (so their answer here is a cop out) about a refund and the charge still appears on my card today. Why charge me for cremation and euthanasia drugs that were never administered in the first place? It was NOT a refund. It's a fraudulent charge. They also have NO EXPLANATION WHATSOEVER for why I was kept physically separated from my dog while they were killing him off in the back room. He has been mauled and poked to death with bandages by the time I recuperated the body with an insistence on police help. I was in no hurry to euthanize Dash. I just wanted to be with him in his final moments BEFORE HE died. Id have waited hours without hesitation. Animal Samaritans robbed me of sharing Dash's last breath by keeping us separated with me in the front lobby waiting unnecessarily. These are disgusting people who just wanted access to my credit card. I left in fear after being attacked in the lobby, but the police officer assured me they knew who he was. I want to warn Coachella valley residence of this place. I have never given an animal shelter a bad review but this one is very warranted. I will start by telling you my story of my sick cat and this sick shelter. I went to the shelter to take my cat for a visit on April 29 for an ear infection, mites and scabbing as well as sores on her skin. The vet at the time prescribed several medications, including an antibiotic and topical treatment for her skin issues and the mites. I spent over $350 (including meds) at the first visit and was charged $56 for the consultation (this is included in the $350). Fast forward And not even a week after the first April 29 appointment I call for a follow up appointment because her condition had NOT improved, I was given a second appointment which was the follow up on May 10. I was never told by the appointment setter named Lupe that I would be seeing a different veterinarian doctor and I did explain that my cats condition had NOT improved and had to be seen again because whatever treatment she was given was not working her ears still looked infected and I had given her all medication on time and as prescribed. I was charged another $250 for the second visit and it's important to note that the second visit should not have been another $56 since we were past the original consultation and the second visit pertains to the original health issues related to my cat there were no new symptoms Or issues basically the original health issues were not resolved by the first vet visit with Animal Samaritans so I should not have even been charged the original $56. It's also important to note that Animal samaritans or someone that is employed by Animal Samaritans fraudulently charged my card an additional amount. I am so upset with Animal Samaritans I will never ever ever go here again. I hate to say this but they are running some kind of scheme. I have called back to explain my concerns for these charges and they are being dismissive with me. I have no problem paying fees when they are explained accordingly but I have a huge problem with unwarranted surprise fees. On their invoices it clearly states that if there is a second visit and it is less than 30 days from the original visit then the office visit should only be $36 not 56 when I spoke to Lupe she's spoke to the manager and they refuse to adjust the charge simply because, their words exactly, I was assigned to a different veterinarian doctor. WOW. So my question to you Animal Samaritans how in your right conscience do you run this kind of business? Swindling innocent concerned pet owners of their hard earned money. It sure feels like I was set up, not only did my cat not get better and did her issues not get resolved after the initial visit but I was charged more and there was no apology or explanation as to why after spending so much with Animal Samaritans my cat is still not doing better. I have had to go out of town to visit another vet in Riverside and their veterinarian doctor looked at my bills and apologized on their behalf even though they are not affiliated in any way she felt bad for me she comped antibiotics for my cat. And after seeing the doses that were prescribed simply stated that she was not prescribe the correct dosage of anabiotic due to my cats weight which is why my cat did not get better and her issues were not resolved with Animal Samaritans. What incompetence Animal Samaritans! What thievery! Shame on you! I will now be taking my business and my cat to the Riverside animal clinic, they are amazing at what they do, they are understanding, and they explain everything to you in advance before any charges. Communication is all I ask and transparency, and HONESTY! Animal Samaritans should be ashamed of themselves! I'm sorry for writing such a long review but I wanted to make sure my story came across clearly and honestly, I want to warn any hard-working pet owners not to go to Animal Samaritans specifically and Indio as that is where I was going I am not sure how the Animal Samaritans in thousand Palms functions but I would probably stay away from there too considering they are sister companies. Will also be filing a complaint with the veterinary board in California as they should not be fraudulently charging their customers and should not be conducting any shady business practices such as providing incompetent vet services, and Scheduling appointments with other doctors as an excuse to bypass their policy of the cost of follow up appointments for the same health issues. To anyone who has read this, I hope you don't take this review as some kind of vendetta but as an honest warning for concern pet owners. I am trying to schedule appointment for my dog to get 2 updates on vaccines and his ear checked. He has been scratching his ear. They could get him in for vaccinations in a week. They tried to schedule him for his ear for next day as urgent care. I declined. They over charge for urgent care and even over charge for urgent care meds. They would not check his ear on appointment for vaccinations. Makes no sense. They claim no appointments through the entire month of April and see nothing for May. Funny how they are only able and willing to see him when they can over charge. I will find another vet. This is not the right place for us. I had a horrible experience here on 5/13/22. I brought my Frenchie in for an ear infection. Vet diagnosed him with an ear infection and my dog didn't make out alive!! They sedated him to clean out his ear. He died during sedation. I'm not sure if they took the proper precautions when sedating a brachycephalic dog like a Frenchie. What a racquet! Schedule an urgent care for $85, they diagnose and charge you more. I scheduled my pup however I'd already told them my get in Mesquite diagnosed a scratch on my dogs cornea, did a tear tissue test and a dye test, sent me home with Tetramyacin at a charge of $86. I call Animal Sam, pay to get her seen but wanted to move past where we were as we needed a different route. Not to be, and on top of the urgent care fee of $85, Animal Sam wanted $168 for the same dang tear test and eye dye test! Seriously a money maker for them. I feel cheated out of my urgent care fee. I've now found an eye specialist in Uplands and the money I did spend and the money I would have spent can actually go to an answer. I'll say Juan, the assistant was nice but I work hard for my money. Animal Sam needs to rethink the way they charge, it's a money maker for these people for sure. The vet is good but the check in and check out staff are very inefficient and combative for when you want to change payment form or any customer related requests as you are a perpetrator begging to be a customer. This on top of a sick pet is horrifying. The manager sticks up for the bad behavior and also joins in on this controlling yet inefficient staff. Too bad because there is a lack of vets in the desert. This place was great when I first moved to the desert but it has really gone down. The customer service skills are greatly lacking (not Lupe at the Thousand Palms location, she is great). I made an appointment over the phone for the non-anesthetic dental. When I arrive to the appointment I chose to remain outside and mask free. One person came out and told me that I did not have an appointment. Then a second person came out 15 minutes later and after repeating that I did not have an appointment, then shoved a mask at me saying "and I'm not going to speak to you without a mask!" I am not lying. Someone gave me an appointment over the phone (I had a conversation with them and they let me know it was going to be $190 because my dog had not been serviced for 9 months) and when I got there 3 weeks later at the appointed time, this is what happened. read more

From the minute I opened the door to enter the waiting room, both receptionists welcomed me! They were already busy but said they would be with me in a minute and they did! My dog has a heart condition and I used their Urgent care service (which is the best service offered when you need to get in asap). Juan spent time with me before taking my dog to see Dr Gilabert. He was caring and asked all about Jacks condition. They spent the day running tests and doing bloodwork. They were so thorough in everything! Dr Gilabert knew I was struggling with jacks results and shared her personal experience she had gone through with her dogs that were similar. She was extremely compassionate but yet encouraging in taking the next steps for jacks health. When I picked up Jack it was 6:30pm and Juan sat down and explained all the medication instructions as well as if I had any questions. The staff stayed there all day and was still so caring! They all thanked me and said to call if I needed anything! Exceptional hospitality and professional services! I have been going here for a few years and live on the opposite end of the valley! Took my 12 year old dog here he is currently losing his vision so he was a bit timid at first, but that staff was excellent he came out smiling and they provided all the info I needed on his health and this to help him out. We are also moving out of state and they provided me with the information for that process. They all said goodbye to him and it really made me happy. Definitely bring your pets here. read more

The sad truth is Carter animal hospital let our dog monkey suffer. We called for three days with no response. Monkey was their patient and they didn't care. We found a vet that came to are home and had compassion for monkey and stoped the suffering. Are home and our hearts are empty. There's no excuse for their behavior. read more

The first time I brought my rat terrier chihuahua mix in for a nail trimming she was so stressed she crapped on one of the staff. They handed me my dog "Marie" to me and before driving off I looked at her nails, they were maybe half done, and there was her own feces on 25 % of her body! They never cleaned her up! That was in 2013 at the thousand palms location. It's 2023, and Marie has ALL the symptoms of kennel cough, I told the intake nurse this, and what I had been doing for her for 4 weeks to fight it off. Marie was still coughing and had labored breathing but no nasal discharge, watering eyes, I told her she was eating but a bit less. All of this I thought was for the doctor. I received a call after paying for an affordable check-up the vet said she didn't like the sound in one of her lungs and gave me 2 options. I could have her go to the ER for blood work and xrays to learn more about her illness for around $750.00 that I couldn't afford or they could put her down! When I started asking about what I had done to help her at home, and my belief that it was kennel cough, she had no idea what I was talking about!? "she's eating? and you've been giving her honey?" I had to literally beg to get any prescription for antibiotics and you could tell in her voice and words that I was in denial about her condition when she only did a routine check up! The staff has been very kind, and the vet has returned a call when I was asking what I could do from home, but how she made me feel, was hopeless without me spending money she knows I don't have because I am living on $1540.00 a month disability payments. It seems like this company and many other vetranarians are in the business of saving the lives of well off ONLY animals! It's criminal and sad. I am though grateful for the senior program that I was approved for after a week of waiting.
