Forget those mega pet stores if you live in Salem, Pet Etc is the place to be! These pet lovers have full service pet groomers including nail trims (IMO, a better price and quality of service than the larger stores I've been to), a huge variety of pet snacks and high quality pet foods. We stopped in this morning to get a Kong Classic dog toy and some chew toys and snacks for outlet year old pit-mix, Tua. There are some sweet resident cats that hang out in the store and my kids had fun petting them and begging me to get even more pets for me to clean up after! (Um, no.) Please dont take your doddle here to get groomed, they could care less about your dog or the owner. On this day I had a groomer Candy. I told her I only wanted an inch off the body. I come back to pick up my dog, and it wasn't the same dog I dropped off. Is traumatic to pick up your dog and you dont recognized the dog you are taking home. My dog looked like he went through a traumatic time there. He was skittish and afraid to come to me. This person did something but not sure what, except that she shaved him when she didn't have permission to do that. I have taken him there for grooming 3-previous times but not with this groomer. I have to say my dog Henry looked beautiful those times. Don't go through this trauma make sure you insist that they call you before doing anything further with your dog. And whatever you do don't use Candy as your groomer. read more

Took my dog here twice. The first time they did a great job on her. The second time I had to call a few times before I could schedule an appointment, as they wouldn't call me back. That time they cut her ear slightly. I'm sure she's fidgety and that can happen. This time I've left several messages to make an appointment and they will not call me back. If you're busy, leave a message saying you're not taking appointments Trying to support local small business versus my dog being taken care of ... hands down, the dog wins. Just moved to Salem and was trying to find my cat speciality can food Weruva. They had some variety but not the exact one I was looking for. But guess what, they would be able to special order( about 1 week) with no additional cost. That takes one thing to not worry about in my list. My cat has to be a a high protein diet and she loves this stuff. The store also sells crickets which I did Ned for my reptiles too! They have a little of everything here, if not they may be able to order it for you. The store is clean and the staff is super nice. I would recommend this place. read more

DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU HAVE A BIG DOG! We took our 10 year old 70 pound German shepherd here, we talked to the groomer before and explained our concern about having an old big dog getting harnessed up and bathed and we specifically said if it's too much work and if she'll be uncomfortable we're fine washing her at home. We were told she would be in great hands and that they deal with much bigger dogs all the time. Well, when she came home she was LIMPING! And now she has a chronic lump, never had ANY issues before going and the minute she's home she has terrible problems. I don't know what they did to her in there but they must have let her jump from a tall point causing her to injure her legs. I am so incredibly sad and disappointed by this place because I used to live supporting a local shop but I will NEVER be back :( l read more

This is my favorite petshop on my side of town the workers are very friendly and they have a large variety of cat and dog toys, they have a bit of bird and rodent stuff too, also a small isle of reptile and fish stuff. They got nice grooming service for dogs and even sell simple feeder insects for reptiles. Ive been here multiple times and still a great place. Also forgot to mention they got dog/cat treats crates trees food leashes collars etc. So if your getting a new puppy or cat heres a good store if you live close by. They have everything including cleaning stuff and training stuff the list doesnt end. read more

I got my dog groomed here for the first time and I had heard good things before bringing him in, but he came home with quite a large cut on his shoulder/neck that none of the groomers mentioned to me when I picked him up. The cut was fairly large and still oozing a little blood, so it would have been hard not to notice. I'm very disappointed that they didn't even mention it to me, especially since it was his first time there. If they had told me, I would've felt differently, but unfortunately I will not be bringing him back. read more

They have a deal on bags of dry food which is nice, I think you get your tenth bag free - I'm not entirely sure on the number. Do you not get your dogs groomed here! I took my beloved bichon mix dog, Chloe, in there today for a grooming she had beautiful long white fluffy ears came out with her ears looking like a cat. They totally shave them off saying that her ears were matted which is not true because I just combed them out yesterday. Someone is not being truthful I think they shaved her ears off to cover up a botched job. Owner is very rude only would give a slight discount. The haircut should've been free because I took my dog in there to be groomed not scalped. Horrible customer service! In my dogs eight years of getting groomed every 2 to 3 months something like this has never happened before and especially they should've been apologetic but they were just rude. Too bad because it was nice to be able to take my dogs here in West Salem where I live. They should have called me if they thought they were going to have to do something as drastic as making her look like a dog with cat ears. Just horrible! Came out here with my Greyhound. He needed a bath and they have fairly inexpensive tubs for self wash. Came in and asked about them and a lady showed me to the grooming room and pointed at them and walked back to the front. Since I had never been there before I had no idea what was included in the price, what products I was supposed to use since there was a shelf full of stuff, or even how to leash my dog up to keep him from jumping out. I just had to figure it out on my own. This place is all away across town for me so I doubt I will be back anytime soon. read more

I went in in February to buy bird suet that was on sale, but they would not give me the sale price as I did not have the coupon. I asked for reconsideration as I did not see that notice on the actual ad/coupon, but the sales person said she could not honor my request. So, instead of honoring a 30 cent discount per suet cake, which would have totaled $1.20 discount, they lost my business. The sales girl was curt, and clearly had no interest in discussing the matter further with me, even though I was politely trying to understand why having the actual coupon should matter when it was advertised as being on sale. read more

Gone in there twice in the last two weeks. My first experience was not great, as I had gone in the store not knowing what they carry... I asked one of the girls a specific question which led to the three girls on shift chatting and not even helping me. I felt VERY AWKWARD just standing there. My following visit, the same cashier as the first time, seems too stoned and out there to care to create polite conversation and is just odd. This gal was in these dirty sweat pants and looked like she had just rolled out of bed. I felt animals running loose in the store were friendlier to me than the folks getting paid there. Also, all I could hear was a family in the back of the store (Possibly the owner and kids?) and the t.v. was blasting. It really didn't seem like a professional store to me. What a wonderful place! My labradoodle had yet to find a food she wouldn't randomly spit up. Talked with them and they gave me multiple samples to try at home. We discovered a food that fit best for my dog and I even felt better knowing it was good that was good for her. The owner and her staff are incredible! They are helpful and give great advice! They offer many buy 10 get 1 free type programs for pet food and even keep track of it for you at the store so you don't have to. They have even offered us many free samples while we were trying to find the right pet food. They carry a good variety of quality foods, toys and health products for dogs, cats and other household pets, as well as wild birdseed. It's great to have a local pet store so close. read more

I never write reviews but this warrants one for me. I went into this store with my two young children, it was very conveniently located for us and I was excited to check it out. There was a younger lady working who was very helpful and gave me a few samples. However there was also an older lady there (maybe the owner I'm not sure) who was unimaginably rude. I could tell that she was extremely annoyed by my children, who were behaving themselves just fine. My toddler was holding a small cat toy that cost $1 while in the store. I always check my child's hands before leaving a store and I made sure we left it behind. The older lady actually came out to my car and made me come back into the store and show her where we put the toy. She was borderline accusing me of stealing just because my child held a toy while in the store. I will never ever return to this store. I will drive out of my way and even pay more just to show another local and more deserving business support. Very very rude here, find a different place to go which will be very happy to have your business. read more

What an awful experience with my two little dogs. About three months ago I had a 12:00 appointment. Their grooming was not started before 4:45 pm. They promised that grooming would be finished before their 6:00 closing time. When brought home by my friend (I can't drive when it's dark outside) they were shaved down to their skin and this was when weather was cold. There were clip marks on some nails but some ends of the nails were left hanging. Large tufts of hair were left in the hollows of their legs and on their paws. Their ears were not properly groomed. If I had been able to get them myself I would have had strong objections to the terrible grooming performed on my almost unrecognizable dogs. Because my pets were in this place for over 6 hours, I assume they overbook appointments. When I called the owner with my complaint I was met with extreme rudeness and the implication that I was a liar. Very unpleasant, to say the least. When I told the groomer, at 12:00, what my dogs needed, he was busy clipping another dog, had his back to me and did not give me full attention. This business has some good reviews and I will agree that the store employees were very pleasant. However, use this place with caution. Take your chances, and you may be the next client to be treated like I was and pay plenty for a job poorly done. read more
