We have been going to Soapy Paws for the past year. The owner Debbie and her daughter did a wonderful job with our dog Cooper. We scheduled our next appointment for today and we received a call from Debbie a couple of months ago stating she had sold the business. We received a call from the new owners stating they would have a groomer with experience with our breed would we like our appointment for June 1st . We did not receive any reminder call, or any communication from the new owners regarding our appointment for today. Imagine our surprise to arrive at our appointment today to closed doors and a sign saying under construction. I have been a business owner for many years... This is no way to run a business... Will not ever be returning to this business... There just is no excuse for this. read more

With the new owners my son had to lift my dog up to the table and hold his head while the dog's nails were trimmed. I feel bad for the new owners, but I won't be back. read more

I took my lab in for self service, I went to the tub, and the girl that works there asked if it was my first time. And As she went to get my supplies for self service I witnessed that same girl and I saw this girl started to get snappy with the gentleman in the back. I saw her snatch the collar and apron from his hand. I was shocked on how aggressive it looked. I felt uncomfortable and later asked for that girls name. Her name is Samantha. I don't feel like anyone would feel comfortable in this place. She really rubbed me the wrong way especially with a bad attitude. read more

I've taken my furry friend to Soapy Paw son S. Commercial for years. Always a good experience, never a worry about it being too long to get an appt. I bring him about every 45 days. give or take. Lisa does a beautiful job... I know, as a small business owner, you should be happy when you hear someone you give your business to is booked out a ways. Tells me they are doing more than a good job, and that's the place I want my dog going to. In the last 5 or 6 mos. A private tragedy gave them a huge bump in the road. That matters people... so I take offense to the impatient, unkind remarks made in other reviews on this otherwise delightful business lately. You can't please everybody. I've worked with 'The Public'... : ) : ( Some of you are quite spoiled, and can't think past you, and yours. : O Not everything is as it seems. Kindness is contagious. I promise. So life starts again with a location change, and a deep breath, or 2, of fresh air, have given my favorite groomer Lisa a chance to re-open downtown in the back of the Reed Opera House!!! Our dogs were groomed well and they seemed happy when I came to pick them up. However, the customer service is lacking to the point where we will not be supporting this business even though they did a good job grooming. Unfortunately didn't get a name on the one woman that made such a negative impact on our experience, but if you were to deal with this business I'm sure you'd recognize who. Used to take my dog for the full bath/groom package, but every time I brought her home she was limping for days, even though I asked them to be mindful of her legs. Then I started using their self-serve wash instead so my dog wouldn't be injured or traumatized. Decided to do that today. Got there and was turned away. Now you even have to make an appointment for self-serve. The place was empty. No one was using either self-serve tub. I will not be returning. Ever. read more

We love this place! SO worth it not to have to clean up fur and wet dog smell in our apartment bathroom. I'm typically a cheap-o, so the $24-28 is on the "splurge" end of the spectrum for me. That being said, I find it worth it and I'm willing to pay that much. This weekend was our 3rd time here, and it was our best experience yet. The first time my dog was totally nervous and stressed and howled and scrambled all over the tub and wash area. The girls working helped me calm her and wrangle her into the tub like pros. This time, after having to lift her into the tub, one of the girls trimmed her nails (free with the wash!) and kept her calm and talked to her the whole time (unlike some places that just churn them through - petco). We did the wash and used some conditioner (also - someone wrote the water is too hot - it's got a faucet like a shower so you can make it as hot or cold as you like). I dried her off and the owner gave us a free bandana. She looked adorable! While we were there we saw two adorable dogs that had been groomed with bows in their hair! I am very sad to write this. Soapy Paws does an AMAZING job with my dogs. But...I received a call the day before the groom appt with my two dogs, cancelling my appt as someone had just quit. I absolutely get that. I called about a month-ago, left a voicemail asking Debbie to call me back to reschedule the appointments. Nothing. Called back two weeks later, giving her an 'out', telling her to just give me a call back to let me know if she couldn't take my dogs. Again, nothing. I have been a loyal customer, never missed appointments, always pretty good tips. I am so frustrated that I couldn't even get a call back. I've had to move on. So disappointed in the outcome. Debbie the office manager is not always pleasant. This is especially true lately since they can't seem to keep help and she is stressed. I have been a customer for around 15 years (previous owner) when suddenly a few weeks ago she cancelled my dog's appointment just two hours before it was scheduled. Debbie said she would call me to reschedule which she never did. Three days later I left a voice mail that was not returned. I dropped by the business while out doing errands and she nastily told me "I said I would call you". It is now a week later and I have not heard from Soap Paws about rescheduling. I am shocked since I am always on time, considerate and have always appreciated Lisa the owner/ groomer's excellent work. After being a customer with all my dogs over the years I am stunned beyond belief. Having read other reviews I notice a pattern of disrespect for some customers. Just got done here driving through town on the way to the in-laws to make sure my pup was "clean enough" for their house haha. Such amazing and friendly people here. Did the self-wash for a mid-size dog and it came with a bunch of other things to make her pretty including a nail clipping which is why I came in the first place. This pet groomer has self help tubs. We use them all the time for our great pyrenees. always very helpful, giving us extra towels and recomend their more powerful blow dryer because of his size and amount of hair. The soap sprayer is a plus. read more

I am so thankful for soapy paws and the groomers! I prefer to self wash for the cost, but I've got two large indoor/outdoor dogs and a sore back :( It is well worth the splurge to get my dogs bathed and groomed here. The girl's are patient and great at what they do. I've been a soapy paws customer for about 20 years through multiple staff and owners. It's a bit of a drive for me, so I let my vet and one other groomer have a try at nail trim and glands. My dogs nails split both times and she became hysterical about anyone touching her back end. Between some light medication and the patience of the girls at soapy paws, my dog is now comfortable being groomed and having nails and glands done with no meds! Huge accomplishment. Now I won't take my dogs ANYWHERE ELSE. Because they are very good, they are BUSY! They may not answer the phone every time, I've even had to stop by to make an appointment, but that's what happens when you're excellent. I had an appt that I made in the shop about 2 weeks ago and when I arrived this morning it was to find the place closed. We have used soapy paws for years. When Naomi owned it they provided the best service in the industry. Now they never answer the phione. I called each day for 3 days up to 7 times and they don't answer. We will now be going elsewhere to get our grooming needs done. We love Soapy Paws! My husband and I have been bringing our two dogs regularly to Soapy Paws for the past 4 years. Every groomer is friendly, knowledgeable and extremely helpful. We groom Belle, our Golden Retriever, while Summer grooms Asia, our our Aussie/Shepherd. Asia is getting older and has knee issues, and Summer is extremely careful with her. They did what exactly what I brought my dog in for, they bathed and clipped her nails. However, when I dropped her off I was told it would take a "couple of hours" so I went to work. Unfortunately, within 45 minutes I had a message to come pick her up because she was stressed. So I left work to pick her up, I called first and there was no answer. When I arrived they told me she was fine, just got stressed out with her nail trim...which I already knew she would be, that's why I get them professionally done. As I was being rung up, they let her run through the shop dragging her leash, which I then had to negotiate an excited dog while I signed my receipt. Needless to say, $43.50 did not seem worth the hassle and lack of customer convenience. I'll be taking my business elsewhere. read more

Don't think I'll be using the place again to wash my dog. I've been using other places and thought I'd give these guys a try. I don't know who designed the self wash area, but it would seem it was someone who was at least 6 foot + and washing a big dog. I take my med size dog to self wash because it kills my back to do it in the bathtub. This felt the same. The tubs are low and wide, you have to bend over to use them, the hot water is too hot, the drying nozzle too cold, the end of the tub is open(!) and water gets all over the place. Soapy paws is a great place for the basic needs of a dog owner that does wants to avoid cleaning up a giant mess at your own house. Soapy paws provides great tools for self grooming. We have a bullmastiff which is a wash and wear type dog, but the her 115 lbs body is a bit too much for placement in a bath tub. I have been taking my dogs to Soapy Paws in Salem, Or. for the past few years. I have three dogs, a boxer, a boxer mix and a lab/terrier mix. I find the staff and owner to be most helpful and pleasant. The tubs are clean, they include clipping nails (I bathe my own dogs). While giving my dogs a bath, I have observed numerous staff memebers and the owner working with the other dogs. They are attentive and gentle with every dog. We had a horrible experience at this place.If you are not White and if you have a dog that gets little anxiety while getting in the tub- DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE. Our first experience was fine but when we went there the second time the racist owner who falsely claims to be knowledgeable about dogs made the experience for my daughter and our pup horrible. It was a nightmare! She is running a business and is not an animal lover for sure. Customer service is out of question. Her staff are better than her and very helpful in her absence. We have a one year old Tibetan Mastiff pup who as one may know are bit stubborn. He hates bathing and was resistant to get in the tub. The breed always tries to challenge who is in control and needs a good push at times but they are not aggressive. They are known as gentle giants. As we had to pit some effort to take our pup into the tub there was no fuss from the owner. As he is a big boy it usually takes 2 hours to bathe and dry my pup. When she set us up she did not connect the water hose to the right tank so we had to ask for help. All was going well and my daughter and I were busy bathing the pup nicely chatting. Suddenly the hose snapped from the place it was taped by a duct tape. We called for help and her first reaction without even seeing what had happened was negative. When i showed her that the taped area came come apart she did not say a word and changed the pipe but seemed very upset. Suddenly she started to tell us that we are not welcome here next time and need to find another place. My 17 year old and I asked her what was the reason and she said our dog was aggressive. Upon asking her how she reached to the conclusion she said he was not ready to get in the tub. I asked is he had growled or tried to bite or was just being scared. She got rough with my daughter and said we had to leave. I refused to leave and got upset that she was calling a pup aggressive. This was not the end of it she kept yelling all the time as we tried to finish the dog. It felt as I was dealing with someone with Bipolar disorder and it was mix of laughing, yelling, smiling, being sarcastic the whole time . She literally kicked us out. A very humiliating experience. Would not recommend anyone to go there We found another place and our pup is resistant initially but with some push gets in the tub and we have a nice time. We made an appointment to have our Great Pyrenees groomed. When my husband arrived with our dog, he was greeted by an employee that gave him the impression that she was irritated that he was even there. This employee began the process of bathing our dog and then quickly threw here hands in the air and refused to do the job we had hired her to do. She side to him, "You are going to have to finish this." So, my husband finished the job of bathing, blow drying and combing our dog. They would not help, assist or offer any advice. Yes, it is a "bathe your own dog" establishment, but that is not the appointment we made. We agreed to pay $100 to have them professionally groom our dog, they made the agreement and then they refused. Our dog is not mean or aggressive. He did not bark or growl. The customer service aspect of this establishment is appalling and their professionalism is non-existent. I highly recommend that you avoid Soapy Paws all together. read more
