We didn't have reservations but were able to grab seats at the bar...which turned out to be a great spot...I had the fried tofu...salmon poke...and a crab sushi roll...each dish was fresh...flavorful...and beautifully prepared...My wife had the Korean fried ribs and potato samosas...and both were absolutely delicious. Not a good experience. When we walked in with our kids the hostess had to ask permission of where to put us. They stuck us in the basement. Then the server was sick and hacking all over us. I'm not sure I have ever ordered sushi anywhere that had less fish on the sushi rolls. We ordered 2 rolls, one was a rainbow. I think there were 8 pieces and a total of 3 had fish. 1 1/2 had salmon and 1 1/2 had tuna - the rest was avocado. They were also the thinest slices of tuna I have seen! We ordered the Green Dragon roll and I'm not even sure there was fish - it was supposed to be yellowtail. We ordered for the kids vegetable tpura and chicken teriyaki - they both were just okay. I would not go back. Sure expected more from this restaurant. We mentioned the lack of fish to who seemed to be the manager and he said that's the way they make it here. What arrived was shredded pork and carrots in the wrong broth ( more like chicken noodle soup) with lime accompaniment, on the side! When visiting Telluride Colorado there is a bar to be set in terms of culinary excursions and Pescado sushi does not even come close to that bar. Starting off our dinner (if you can even call it that) our party of 4 descended into the lime green colored sushi establishment and noticed right away that our menus were missing basic sushi fundamentals such as albacore, starting off our night of bad omens. Many dishes we ordered simply lacked the saltiness and taste of sushi I've experienced before, with the tuna sashimi being served warm dripping in ponzu sauce. Furthermore, the mocha desert is simply a mocha from Trader Joes sliced in half and served on a plate which is why I proceeded to get ice cream from a neighboring restaurant. Overall I expected slightly better from Pescado as it seemed to have a decent Yelp rating however I would say it is sub-par sushi at best! read more

Last year, I tried Honga's Lotus Petal to see if Telluride could possibly offer decent sushi. It didn't, but I blamed it on the white touristy market. This year, I decided to check out the lesser known sushi joint in Telluride, Pescado. Pescado is conveniently located next to Delilah - make sure you visit Pescado first, because you will spend far too much money if you go in there with the munchies. I found their menu unremarkable. Nothing out of the ordinary - they didn't even have tamago. I just went with four sushi orders - yellowtail, mackerel, beef tataki, and scallops. The mackerel was pretty good, as far as the meat is concerned, but everything else was forgettable. Possibly because the rice was all wrong - it was cold, tightly packed, and dry. It didn't seem like they put any effort into it at all, and it made it so the rice was overwhelming, instead of complementing the meat. What did I pay for this? $40 for eight pieces of meat and some rice. Exorbitant prices even for Telluride. Skip it and stick with Honga's. Check came with a fortune cookie. At a Japanese restaurant. But I guess that shouldn't be too surprising since the name of the restaurant is Spanish. read more

Loved the atmosphere but unfortunately sushi was just ok. We ordered 2 rolls and the around the world sashimi plate. Fish was fresh enough but it was the rice that ruined it. It was either not cooked well or wasn't seasoned well. Maybe the vinegar level wasn't quite right? Not sure. But the rice on our rolls were a bit hard to chew and falling apart. Everyone is a 24/7 critic. I read some of the other reviewers. It seems they need hobbies other than eating and talking (a lot....all-the-time). This is why I rely on yelp less and less. It is becoming insignificant. The chef at Pescado cares. The staff all have high standards of service. It is difficult to survive in a small, remote, mountain town. Employees are hard to get as the cost of living here is based on folks who pull a million-plus-a-year. Pescado survives with flair. I had the 6 course Chef's menu. Well Pescado had again had mechanical issues, not sure what that meant but we were disappointed. they could have offered to go or something sushi is raw fish no cooking needed. So on Sunday while in Ridgway we went to Chipeta 4 corners restaurant, Chewy the old head chef of cosmopolitan Telluride, now owns and runs with his son the Four Corners and the sushi was amazing and at a better price..... if Pescado continues to have issues, locals head to Ridgway for mouthwatering sushi. read more

We visited based on the recommendation of a local and we weren't disappointed. We arrived right when they opened at 5pm to avoid a wait. The edamame was great and served steaming hot. The Roll of the Day and Special Roll were excellent. We also ordered the California Roll and Salmon Poke. Both were tasty. The staff was friendly and our server Tai did a great job. Tip - Arrive early for happy hour from 5:00pm to 6:30pm. A few of the local beers are half price and you might not have to wait for a table. The most important part of sushi is the rice, and the sushi rice here was terrible. The rice was hard and you couldn't taste the rice vinegar at all. It's nearly as bad as supermarket sushi. At normal sushi restaurant prices, I would give it two stars. Since we paid overpriced Telluride prices, it's only getting one star. read more

First negative review I have written in my life but need to warn others that the owner is unprofessional and rude. We have eaten and ordered there over the years and enjoyed the quality despite the fat prices.......our most recent experience is highly unacceptable and a very poor performance and bad experience. My wife ordered her usual roll order and got home to see 4 baby nigiri pieces which she started eating before realizing it was incorrectly delivered. I rang Pescado and the nice waitress admitted it was her misunderstanding and put me on hold to speak to the manager... she came back and offered 2 complimentary rolls so I was very grateful and was told to pick up in 10 minutes.....so rode back to the place. I arrive to be greeted by the manager. Long story short.... he wants me to pay 1/2 and does not believe it was his restaurant's error. Owner blamed my wife for a wrong order and refused to compensate me fully for the second order even though I had gracefully paid $33+ Inc tip for 4 anaemic pieces of nigiri and 1/3 cup of miso......I respectfully offer the compromise is not acceptable and he can keep his rolls..... and then he anxiously asked to discuss it outside. Once upstairs on the sidewalk the discussion about professional integrity and consumer relationship failure continued in front of a few possible guests who were scared off by the owner arguing with a paying guest in front of his establishment. Needless to say they were not impressed and went to LaCocina......bottom line....if this is the way you treat locals to save $10 in production cost and abuse them on the side walk just because they respectfully disagree on being charged for a replacement order that was your error then your business acumen and personal character is in the gutter. As a long time local I will be sure to warn all friends and any visitors to avoid your disgracefully managed business........what a total loser rip off joint...........having happily paid top dollar over the years and to be treated like this is DISGUSTING.
