I recently tried Azu Peruvian Cuisine in Rockville and overall had a solid experience. I ordered…read morethe lomo saltado, the copa, and the chupe de langostinos. The lomo saltado was well executed. The beef was tender, the fries were crispy, and the classic mix of soy sauce, onions, and tomatoes gave it that authentic Peruvian flavor. The portion size was generous and satisfying. The chupe de langostinos stood out. It was rich, creamy, and packed with shrimp, which is important because many places skimp on seafood in this dish. It had a deep, comforting flavor and felt very traditional. The place itself is small and casual but welcoming, and the service was friendly. Overall, it's a good spot in Rockville if you're looking for authentic Peruvian flavors. I'd definitely come back to try more dishes.

Good size place with a small area as you as you walk-in and a larger space for at least 6 tables+…read moreand a bar area with 4 stools. Nice set-up but they are still awaiting their liquor license (as of Jan. 2026), so they only serve non-alcoholic juices, sodas and water (for now) and hot teas on the weekends. The servers are very sweet and really know the food and menu. However, I did observe they are either a bit inexperienced, or the place is still getting things in order-- as they carry the food out without trays. I observed one server carrying a soup very close to the rim with bare hands. Now, for the food. An excellent array of varied dishes from different regions of Peruvian cuisine. My husband and I have tried our fair share of Peruvian food both in Peru and across various U.S. states. It's our go-to-food. The food here had its highs and lows. The Good & The Bad: Grilled octopus was delicious with a generous portion of everything served on sizzling skillet. Chorros à la chalaca (fresh mussels) served with pico. Both had a lovely presentation and savory flavors. Lomo saltado (sautéed beef tenderloin pieces) with fettuccine à la Huancaina served over a bed of fettuccine in a spicy cheese sauce (IYKYK). The Huancaina sauce was on point as was the sauce for the lomo--The (lomo) beef however was not. Beef was overcooked and tough to chew. And being a Peruvian spot the Classic Ceviche was a work of art but the flavor and the spice-level was lacking. Finally, I asked for a side of sauce and was charged for 2 oz. of sauce. They also tacked on a service charge fee for a table of two. Overall, the ambiance was nice and friendly but the food coming out of the kitchen did not warrant a $130 bill. Honestly, the prices are comparable for this kind of food. But I would expect better product and less hidden fees. I hope this small business will keep improving I'd love to give it another chance once they work out the kinks-- but judge for yourself!

Ordered the Empanada tasting which is one steak, chicken and sausage. A few minutes later the u inspired server brings 2 of the same flavor when there should have been 3 different flavors. The manager corrected the issue and we started tasting and sampling and quickly realized that there wasn't much flavor to any of them and the sauce tasted like it had sat open in the refrigerator for weeks. One bite of each was enough to stop eating them! Then along came dinner..... Lomo Saltado and it was more disappointing than the appetizers! The steak chunks were not seasoned, the dish was very dry and the fries and vegetables were not seasoned. This meal doesn't even rate 1 star and they should be ashamed of their service and products!! Overall my review says don't eat at Mayta's!! It was a complete waste of money and time!! Horrible service and food!!

The food, they have a great lunch option and we took advantage of that, an app, main dish, and drink for $18 Their empanadas were 5/5, great filling and flavor, nice crunch/flakey dough and I would 100% recommend. The meats, now y'all know, if you have been reading any of my reviews that I like my steak/meats a particular sort of way. just to preference! I got their Lomo saltado and the steak was TOUGH, not uneatable tough, but tough enough to not really enjoy my meal. But besides the meat being tough, I couldn't really taste the aji amarillo flavor and didn't have much flavor in general, just a little salty. The fries were great crispy on the bottom and were prepared well. For a dish that's almost $30, they should use a better cut of meat. overall, not a great experience 2/5. My wife got their steak skewers and similarly, the meat was too tough, and didn't' have too much flavor. also very mid. Overall, the place was cute but just lacking in terms of their food. I would maybe go back to try more things (but really to eat their empanadas) but with almost spending $70 for pretty terrible main course meals was unfortunate.

The restaurant is beautifully decorated, and the staff was friendly and welcoming from the moment we arrived. The food was delicious, especially the dessert! We were visiting a friend who recommended this spot, and it definitely lived up to the hype. The atmosphere was lively and energetic, but even with a full house, it was still easy to have a conversation at the table. Overall, a great dining experience and a place we'd happily return to.

They have good drink options which was nice for a group which all had different tastes. We started with appetizers, including the chicken empanadas, the tuna tacos, and ceviche sampler. The chicken empanadas were good, if not particularly memorable. But had a nice crunch on the shell and the inside had a nice savory flavor and not dry. The tuna tacos, which didn't have the most appetizing color, was also tasty. The tuna was tender and balanced well with the crispy shell. The ceviche sampler was also delicious, each one having a different flavor profile. I liked the tigre de leche the best in terms of the acidity and brightness. I just wish the ceviche had some kind of vessel to eat it with. One of the ceviche had plantain chips which was nice but I wanted more. Without it, the texture is just one note. For the main dishes, we got the lomo saltado and the aji de gallina which are two, iconic Peruvian dishes. Both were just meh. The aji was the better of the two. The sauce was flavored well with the creaminess of the sauce not overwhelming the garlic and tumeric flavors. But the rice was SUPER dry, almost crunchy. The lomo saltado was even worse. The beef was overly cooked, some pieces were very sinewy and chewy. It was also overly salty and the veggie to meat ratio heavily favored the veggies and made the dish feel cheap. Overall, it was fine but given the options for Peruvian in DC, not sure this deserves 4 stars+.
