I came down with a major eye injury a few months ago that prevented my eye from closing property, resulting in excessive dry eye and irritation to my cornea, which can lead to irreversible damage. I was in extreme pain from the discomfort (to the point of tears!). Dr. Frohm was able to see me on short notice and provided me with the tests and Rx medicine needed to control my eye pain and prevent further injury. He was extremely knowledgeable, professional, and most importantly, personable. The office is clean and stylish, and offers a well-curated collection of eyewear from popular designers and local brands. I returned a month later for my annual eye exam and ordered glasses and prescription sunglasses, both of which were turned around in less than a week. I really appreciated the quick turnaround time, as I was able to have them in time for my vacation. Kudos to the office manager, Shayla, for working with me to go over my insurance options and for her help on my eye wear selection. Northfield Vision Center is a modern, professional, and cutting-edge facility providing quality eye care. Highly recommended.

I had difficulty seeing anything up close with the contacts I wore that were based on her prescription. Reading books, checking my watch, or reading on my phone was impossible due to the blurriness. It bothered me for 2 years, and I was very frustrated with the issue. I asked her to adjust the prescription several times. She made slight adjustments, which were not helpful. She finally told me she could do no more, or I would have trouble seeing things far away. She also told me that it was normal to have blurry vision while wearing contacts when looking at things close up because contacts are different than glasses. This was incorrect information! I wasn't sure what the problem was, but I figured it was my eyes. Eventually, due to the discomfort, I gave up wearing contacts unless it was absolutely necessary. The issue was finally resolved when I took a trip to Taiwan and consulted an optometrist there who told me that the prescription Dr. Dalporto gave me was entirely wrong and too strong. They said that she should not have simply given me a prescription based on whatever the vision test machine determined. Every prescription needs to be adjusted based on each individual's lifestyle and habits so that anything--both close up and at a distance--can be seen clearly and comfortably. I received a new prescription, and when I tried the new contacts, I immediately noticed a huge difference. They were so comfortable, and I had no trouble seeing or reading things on a computer, on my phone, or close up. The problem I had with blurriness that had been bothering me for years was finally resolved! Now I can wear contacts again--every day, all day. I went back to Dr. Dalporto and asked her to adjust the prescription on file based on the new prescription. She simply copied the numbers directly from the Taiwanese prescription and checked my vision. It was 20/20, of course. Had she actively tried her best to help me achieve the most comfortable and accurate prescription years ago, I would not have suffered so much with blurry vision when trying to see things close up! When I complained, the office manager was cold and impatient and didn't apologize for all the trouble I had been through. Instead, she asked me, "Is there anything else?" At this point, I was so fed up with this mess and so shocked at the customer service I received that I decided to change optometrists completely for my own vision care. One of the fundamental jobs of an optometrist is to give correct, comfortable contact lens prescriptions to patients. If they fail to provide an accurate prescription, it raises serious doubts about their professional competence. This experience proved to me that Dr. Dalporto doesn't care about her patients' vision, nor does she try her best to solve the vision issues they have. Instead, she is very passive, only does what she is asked to do (but poorly), and performs vision tests that a robot could do. In a word, she is incompetent. Don't go to Dr. Dalporto. She is totally unprofessional and won't give you a correct prescription!

Was told it would be a few days and they may arrive by the end of the week. Didn't hear back the next week, didn't hear back the following week. After calling, I was told my order would be ready 03/07. Picked up my glasses and as soon as I got them home and cleaned, I realized there was a pinpoint dot in the coating on one lens. Came back to drop them off to be repaired on 03/09. Was told they'd be repaired in a few days. Called 03/16 and was told they'd call me back. Called 03/17 after not hearing from them and was told that "maybe they'd be ready by the end of the week". I did everything right. I went to a local business, I spent almost $500, I called every step of the way to remind them. I got FAR better service at a chain and it was free. Last time I ordered glasses I spent nothing out of pocket and they arrived in a week and a half. It's been almost a month, I paid $500, and I still don't have my glasses. And no one who works here returns phonecalls. Don't patronize this shop. The service is worse than a chain and in the four times I've had to visit the store, no one has been in it. Small wonder.

The first thing the optometrist says to me, even before asking my name, looking at my file, or doing an exam is if I want to try daily contacts. This is not based on anything medical. He says they're much better and they only cost 30% more than monthly which I currently use. Well he can't do simple math because I found out later that they are actually 300% more- even with rebates and insurance. The lenses on the equipment are dirty and cloudy which makes the eye exam harder to do. They ask me if I want to try daily's. I said sure why not I'll try them. And they will not give me a prescription until I try them. Well it's nice but not enough for me to pay over $800 a year for contacts. I request a written prescription so I can buy my regular contacts online where it is half the price. They send over a prescription for a specific brand of daily contacts. I say no I want monthly. They say they can't give me a prescription for monthlies unless I try them. What?! They never told me this when giving me the sample. I didn't know I was committing to getting daily contacts when they handed me 5 days worth of lenses. They insist and say other optometrists don't care as much about their customers which is BULLSHIT. So I have to go in AGAIN and get the sample. After a few weeks, I request a prescription for monthlies. They send me the daily prescription again!! So I ask them again- please send me a monthly prescription. They do send one but it is again BRAND SPECIFIC to B&L. I didn't realize that until I tried to order myself new contacts online and it was denied. Because I tried to buy a different brand of monthly contacts that I prefer and know very well after using contacts for over 20 years. So how many calls and visits does it take to get the single prescription I need? With all of my previous optometrists- it was one simple email after my eye exam. None of them have tried to sell me super expensive, brand specific daily contacts. BEWARE OF THIS UNETHICAL AND INCOMPETENT PRACTICE.

Had a huge misunderstanding and took it up with BCBS and will be cancelling that shitty insurance as they're contracting as well as with a few other insurance companies that look good on the surface. Not naming names. Doc is the best, he had a sidekick intern as well as office staff there just after COVID. Everyone was super friendly and the new office staff girl was super laid back - the intern explained everything then Doc came in and did his thing. Think of a sporting event - he's there and on the spot. He comes in, does his thing - explains it all and lets the intern go from there. Due to the discrepancy with BCBS I footed the bill myself. He'd also take your old favorite lenses and replace them but remember if the frames are too old (just send pics in and go from there) then you're outta luck. He said about two (2) weeks as they're super busy, sending orders out to labs then other places to get the tints, etc.. Got a call today, end of the day before the holiday. Came in, popped the frames on and everything was perfect. Not sure why people are complaining on here. Doc is one of the top 5 if not top 3 eye docs on the North Shore; and he educates and teaches as well as covers sporting events and all sorts of interesting avenues. Talk about experience, there ya go. In the end I called BCBS today and laid into them. When I'd call to complain initially, they took the insurance complaint against the Doc when it was against BCBS. Called them today and told them to clean up their act, stop the lies and bullshit and drop this so-called claim and listen to the call as everything was documented wrong. BCBS IS horrible.
