I called to make an emergency eye appointment. They don't take those. I had never been there before so they took all my info and made me the next available appointment. I gave them my vision insurance info and they said they accepted it. I got a call a few days later by a women at the front desk asking for my insurance. She told me the call center said that (why is a call center telling ppl if they approve of ins or not???) she said she would look into it and get back to me. I never heard from her. I called the AM of my appointment which I got a text confirming the appt but the office had never heard of me and didn't have my appointment. The women at the front desk were beyond rude! I would never even make another appointment there again. read more

I had a terrible experience with Dr. Dalporto. Not only was she unprofessional, but she provided me with the wrong contact lens prescription for 2 years. I had difficulty seeing anything up close with the contacts I wore that were based on her prescription. Reading books, checking my watch, or reading on my phone was impossible due to the blurriness. It bothered me for 2 years, and I was very frustrated with the issue. I asked her to adjust the prescription several times. She made slight adjustments, which were not helpful. She finally told me she could do no more, or I would have trouble seeing things far away. She also told me that it was normal to have blurry vision while wearing contacts when looking at things close up because contacts are different than glasses. This was incorrect information! I wasn't sure what the problem was, but I figured it was my eyes. Eventually, due to the discomfort, I gave up wearing contacts unless it was absolutely necessary. The issue was finally resolved when I took a trip to Taiwan and consulted an optometrist there who told me that the prescription Dr. Dalporto gave me was entirely wrong and too strong. They said that she should not have simply given me a prescription based on whatever the vision test machine determined. Every prescription needs to be adjusted based on each individual's lifestyle and habits so that anything--both close up and at a distance--can be seen clearly and comfortably. I received a new prescription, and when I tried the new contacts, I immediately noticed a huge difference. They were so comfortable, and I had no trouble seeing or reading things on a computer, on my phone, or close up. The problem I had with blurriness that had been bothering me for years was finally resolved! Now I can wear contacts again--every day, all day. I went back to Dr. Dalporto and asked her to adjust the prescription on file based on the new prescription. She simply copied the numbers directly from the Taiwanese prescription and checked my vision. It was 20/20, of course. Had she actively tried her best to help me achieve the most comfortable and accurate prescription years ago, I would not have suffered so much with blurry vision when trying to see things close up! When I complained, the office manager was cold and impatient and didn't apologize for all the trouble I had been through. Instead, she asked me, "Is there anything else?" At this point, I was so fed up with this mess and so shocked at the customer service I received that I decided to change optometrists completely for my own vision care. One of the fundamental jobs of an optometrist is to give correct, comfortable contact lens prescriptions to patients. If they fail to provide an accurate prescription, it raises serious doubts about their professional competence. This experience proved to me that Dr. Dalporto doesn't care about her patients' vision, nor does she try her best to solve the vision issues they have. Instead, she is very passive, only does what she is asked to do (but poorly), and performs vision tests that a robot could do. In a word, she is incompetent. Don't go to Dr. Dalporto. She is totally unprofessional and won't give you a correct prescription! read more

I hate going to any type of doctor's office and to be honest, going to get my eyes checked is no exception. While I hate going to the doctor's, I admit, this facility has top notch doctors. I have now seen both Dr. Neukirch and Dr. DalPorto and I can say they are both fantastic. Dr. DalPorto is my regular optometrist but I had to see Dr. Neukirch when she was completely booked and Dr. Neukirch literally had one appointment available the next day. It was pure luck because they were both completely booked for the next 2 months. When seeing Dr. Neukirch, I could tell he was very knowledgable. He knew exactly who I was, understood my file, etc., in literal minutes of just glancing the notes from my past visits. I could tell he was totally brilliant. Dr. DalPorto is amazing too. She helped me narrow down my issues with my diplopia and she is incredibly nice. I always feel so comfortable when she is helping me and I don't ever feel frustrated like I have with other optometrists. You can seriously just feel how kind and wonderful of a person she is. I truly recommend this office to anyone looking for a great optometrist. I also want to add that there was like a tech or a helper that came and talked to be before I was seen by the doctor, and she was FANTASTIC. It was so weird, because I know she was taking notes to help the doctor in preparing and understanding my needs, but she made me feel prepared too. I don't know how to explain it. And while I think Carillon Vision Care is great, I do have some notes. I get emails calling me by another patients name telling me my prescription is 5 years out of date and that I need to schedule an appointment. I get these emails about once a week and sometimes have gotten them multiple times a day. I have complained to the office about it 3x and told them unsubscribing doesn't help but they have not fixed the issue. It's also a concern because sharing another patients information is not really safe. Luckily, I just know this other patients name and when the last time she visited was, so nothing super personal was shared. Also, some of the front desk ladies could be nicer. They not totally mean but they're just not nice either. If you're looking for a good doctor, I cannot recommend this place enough. Maybe just don't share your email address. Dr. Neukirch is wonderful and I'm very glad I came back to Carillon. Although my previous eye doctor was competent and good with kids, I now appreciate the difference in total experience. What really made Dr. Neukirch stand out is the time he took and his patient rapport. His office staff was also terrific. It was clear from the get-go that my appointment was all about me and my eyes/vision. There was plenty of time to conduct exam, discuss the Rx, answer questions, etc. Moreover, Dr. Neukirch didn't falter at all when I showed up like a complete idiot without my glasses or contact information (I was returning to Carillon, so they don't have my more recent exam information - which I still can't believe I forgot to bring!). It was no issue at all. The exam was super smooth, and I really think that is a testament to Dr. Neukirch's skill. I also really liked his approach to my contact lens fitting. I've been wearing contacts for well over 20 years and am used to being given a trial pair at exam (as in one trial - usually the new Rx for the brand I wear). I really liked that Dr. Neukirch gave me more than one brand to try, explaining why he thought one might be a better fit for me. Big thumbs up. This is the Carillon Vision I remember and it's good to be back. PS They also use a different technology to test for macular degeneration. No more eye air puff! Woo hoo! read more

Never going back, the older blonde lady is still there and she has no manners. She is horrific , she did not believe I had insurance and was very rude about it, I do not know what miserable life she may have but it is not fair to your patients to deal with. The doctors are nice but it is not worth being treated down and horribly by this lady to ever return again. We used to go to a place close to our old house, that place was popular, and we got good and expensive services. After we moved to Glenview, we still drove 30 mins to the place until we found Carillon Vision. The service is good, and they try their best to help us patients, an experience I never had at the other expensive place . One time I used my almost one year old prescription to get a pair of glasses, it turned out bad. So Dr. N. checked my vision and provided a new prescription and a new pair of glasses without charging for it. Ms. Novelle is the best technician you could work with, she's warm, sincere, and she would go out of her way to find you the best frame, she would adjust your nose pads, frame for you until you are completely satisfied. I have been a patient of Dr. Neukirch's for a couple of years along with my wife and daughter. Carillon Vision has always done a great job and my last visit was perfect as expected. Dr. Neukirich is thorough and on time, after a quick check-in at the front desk Lincoln (Dr. Neukirch's dog) came by for a quick hello and pat on the head. My appointment was quick and after a change in my prescription I decided to get some new glasses. Phyllis did a great job helping pick out a nice pair and fitting my glasses. I also decided to make some changes to an existing pair of glasses, Phyllis helped with that too. Phyllis understood my insurance and clearly talked me through my financial responsibilities. Phyllis does a great job picking out glasses and is an asset to the Carillon Vision Care. There are plenty of options for vision care but I believe Carillon Vision Care is the best choice because of Dr. Neukirch and Phyllis. read more

They offer the one very important service others can't seem to get right.. not taking your glasses away. I bought my frames and lenses from LensCrafters. Big business, great business right? Wrong. How sucky is it to have your glasses taken from you for over a week just to change lenses.. I use my glasses day-to-day and frankly like to wear them all the time. With Carillon Vision Care, they are able to make measurements, order the lenses and install them for you within minutes in-store. You can keep wearing your glasses during this time. On top of the amazing service and great selection of eyewear, their staff is friendly and supportive. They're very genuine about loving the jobs they work. I've been recommending Dr. Neukirch to everyone who will listen to me. I had been going to a different eye doctor in Glenview since I was a kid, and I am SO happy I made the switch a few years ago - it's seriously night and day. Dr. Neukirch uses what seems to be the most modern technology available. For example, he is able to take a photo of your optic nerve and show it to you instantly - no eye drops, no waiting around while your pupils dilate. In addition to being incredibly knowledgeable and just generally a great doctor, Dr. Neukirch is extremely personable. I have awful vision, so eye exams - especially reading the tiny letters on the wall - can be intimidating for me, but Dr. Neukirch makes me feel completely at ease. He is very patient and wants to take the time to get it right. The cherry on top is definitely Lincoln the Office Dog. He's such a sweet pupper. read more

Last week, I took 3 of my 5 children for their eye checkups at Carillon Vision Care. We saw Dr. Neukirch as well as Dr. Dalporto. These doctors are not only amazing with adults but especially kind and compassionate with the kiddos. We had wonderful and thorough exams ... got a lollipop at the end and free petting from Lincoln the Lab who resides at the office. I can not recommend this office enough. In other news, I am still attempting to find the right prescription combination for my bifocal contact lens situation. Dr. Neukirch has been so patient in trying to make it just right for me. I had been meaning to make an appointment for blurred vision in my right eye for months until a more blurred circular spot showed up one morning. I immediately checked Yelp for reviews and felt confident enough to book an appointment with Dr Neukirch. Not only did I find the office and evaluation both professional and courteous, but Dr Neukirch demonstrated calm urgency when telling me I had a dense cataract and a partial or total detached retina. He immediately contacted the Retina Institute of Illinois and we booked an appointment the next morning with Dr Michael, who then operated on me the following evening. My surgery went well and even though I have to wait for a prosthetic lens to be put in after the partially detached retina fully heals, I believe I'm looking at the best case scenario thanks to Dr Neukirch and the people he directed me to. The office is not the closest to me but I'm concerned with skill and experience about all else. Will definitely recommend. read more

EDIT- since my post, Dr. Neukirch reached out to me personally to discuss my concerns and to address each one individually. He asked to give the office another chance promising he'd re-train his staff on how to handle the issues we had. We went back a week after positing this review and all went well. I am hopeful this continues to be the case and have been assured by Dr. Neukirch that it will be. Today was the last straw. I had confirmed my daughter's eye doctor appointment with them last month on two occasions. Once when I was in there for school paperwork and once when I went in for Eclipse glasses. Yet, today when I show the can't find us on the schedule and then put it back on me that if she had an appointment they would've called to confirm. When I explained that I confirmed twice last month they rudely told me that they didn't have it on schedule and couldn't accommodate us...next week would be the next available time. I got my kid and my hugely pregnant self out of the house on time for this appointment and was turned away, through no fault of my own. The least they could've done is own their mistake and squeezed us in since we were already there. But they didn't. This, plus the fact that my daughter is terrified of dogs and they let a dog roam the office freely (even though we've voiced her discomfort in being around a big dog) has made us officially done. read more

I have been going there for 4 years now. I just had a first exam with Dr. Delasota, she is young and very personable. Explained a lot that I appreciated. Of course know one is better than Phyllis for the best fit and help with styling, she is honest and helps with insurance costs. I REALLY appreciate her. I hate having to downgrade my review but it's due to an insurance issue. Apparently this office doesn't take our vision insurance (okay that's my fault for not checking beforehand). Even though Carillion was kind enough to give us a discount on the final bill, the charge for a mandatory kindergarten eye exam was more than twice the cost of what we paid at Glenview Eye Care. So we will be going back to Glenview Eye Care despite really liking Dr. Neukirch. I guess the lesson I learned today was that mandatory kindergarten eye exam costs can vary by the block! read more

I saw Dr. Dalporto and she was amazing. She was very vocal throughout the entire appointment, explaining what she was doing. She even walked me through the results of my optical scans showing photos and noting what we were looking at. What a great experience! I used to go to Costco for my eye exams, but since going to see Dr. Neukirch, I could never think of going anywhere else. The staff was warm and friendly and very efficient. Dr. Neukirch was bright and outgoing, yet accepted with such professionalism. He was confident and really explained a lot of things about the eyes that I never knew. His optician, Phyllis, was phenomenal as well. She was able to help me pick out glasses that I wanted fairly quickly. I absolutely love my glasses and get compliments wherever I go! In fact, my sister bought the same pair as me from Carillon Vision Care! Overall, I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Everyone was prompt and courteous, and I felt that they really cared about the experience that I was having. It continues to be a delight for me to visit Dr. Neukirch & the team over at Carillon Vision Care. I've been coming here for my vision needs for the past few years & have recommended his office to multiple friends & family. My sister & her husband moved to Seattle a couple of years ago & they make it a point to schedule a visit when they are in town. Carillon Vision offers modern technology & Dr. Neukirch does an excellent job of providing clinical education, often using videos to help reinforce the concepts he is explaining. His front desk folks are very friendly & the Optician who takes care of setting us up with eyewear does a great job of matching up frames & lenses while sticking within my budget. Another bonus: I am a dog lover & so I always enjoy playing with Lincoln the office pooch & I just recently met Bowser, another addition to the canine team. Excellent customer service! Called them in a pinch because I needed contact lenses for a relative in town who forgot her lenses at home. I emailed them the prescription, they had the lenses in stock and set them aside for me ready for pickup right away. And even better, they did not charge me for 10 days worth of lenses. I recently watched "Going Clear" on HBO about Scientology. It made me think how I should discuss critical thinking with my 8 and 10 year old sons. How do you make them understand what is important while allowing them to make their own decisions? I'm afraid of them being influenced by others with dubious intent or those who wander blindly through a life dictated by others. The key is to teach them the ability to see things clearly - to appreciate what is nonsense and what is legitimate. I am accepting the responsibility for providing a moral compass but I leave the vision part to Dr. Neukirch of Carillon Vision Care. He is thorough and friendly and puts the kids at ease. Now they are equipped to clearly see a fastball if not the intent of others around them. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Neukirch for several years now. I went to him initially because I couldn't get good prescription on my contacts. He is very knowledgeable about the latest contacts and works with you to get just the right prescription. I now see him more often for issues related to my eyes and he doesn't rush the appointment and is very thorough and caring. He also communicates with my other doctors. I believe my experience is a one-off in view of the many outstanding reviews here. However, I will share my negative experience with Dr. Neukirch in the hope that he will be more responsive to future patients than he was with me. Dr. Neukirch, a new provider for me, wrote a prescription for progressive lenses for my glasses. When I filled the prescription, the new lenses made my vision significantly worse than it was with my existing glasses. Initially, I wasn't particularly upset about this issue; everyone makes mistake. What did upset me, however, was Dr. Neukirch's lack of responsiveness. It took half a dozen phone calls and 2-3 emails to his office to finally resolve the issue (he took back the lenses and gave me a full refund). He always seemed too busy to talk to me or to describe in layman's terms what might have gone wrong with the prescription. I was also puzzled my his office staff's seeming inability to email me a copy of my prescription. I made this request 3-4 times and was eventually told by the office manager that Dr. Neukirch himself had to respond to this request. Since emailing me my prescription would entail only the ability to use a scanner and a computer; I am amazed that the office staff was unable to fulfill this request the first time I made it. Otherwise, I found his office staff professional and courteous. Now I will start at square one trying to find a new optometrist, an endeavor to which I am not looking forward. read more

Maybe a mere 5 seconds into my appointment, I thought Dr. Neukirch might very well be the nicest eye doctor I have come across in my 20 years of wearing glasses and contacts. Dr. Neukirch was extremely pleasant, gave clear explanations and instructions during the exam and clearly knows his stuff.
