I really enjoyed my first highlight and haircut with Perry, and I say first visit because I am planning on trusting him with my hair again. He was easy to work with and open to my feedback. Also, he did my highlights perfectly the first time. Usually I have to ask stylists to go back and fix missed areas around my crown because I wear my hair in a ponytail the majority of the time. While foiling he notices these areas and painted them in and everything came out fabulous. He also went above and beyond running out to buy the toner I wanted because he did not have it in-house. Perry is extremely talented and knowledgeable. I came to him wanting to go red but knowing I have super long hair and some is processed and some isn't. He was honest with me about what was possible and what wasn't, and we went with a nice honey blonde with some reddish tones that really evened things out in a gorgeous way. Even more importantly he showed me regular items I can buy to help get the same styled look at home and which shampoos/conditioners to use for my color-treated hair. He was able to make a same day appointment on a Sunday which was great, and spent hours helping my hair look awesome! UPDATE 8/6/2019: I have seen Perry consistently for two years and I haven't been disappointed! His haircuts always look great and are easy to manage with or without product. I made an appointment, drove over an hour to get there, and Perry didn't even show up. When I called him, he said he forgot to let me know he wasn't coming in today. He didn't even apologize. Ooh girl save your time and money. Outdated equipment, unwelcoming environment, and rude! He has a Groupon and good reviews so I figured why not? When I got there he complained that I had wet hair that he would have to dry. He dries it with a very old gross old hair dryer with a technique that I don't think any salon I have been to uses. It was like my 5 year old was drying my hair. He proceeds to tell me my hair is too long and would be an additional $15. Mind you, the groupon was for $70 and included a cut and color. In the fine print it mentions hair may not exceed 2.5 in below shoulders which my short hair was right at 2.5. Fine. If you want to add that, I guess I can swallow it. He then starts to tell me I booked a highlight (which I did NOT) and also tells me he talked about the fee over the phone (which he also did NOT) Perry told me my hair was super thick and would require more than one tube of dye so that would cost an additional $15. Now we're at $100. When I refused to allow him to make me feel like I was crazy because he never mentioned ANYTHING over the phone, he then told me that all of the fees were in the fine print and that I just didn't read correctly. I got up and left right there and didn't let him do a thing to my hair. He was so argumentative and rude that even if he was the king of hair I would not see him again. I left and went to Lady & Saint, a lovely salon closer to me and had a FANTASTIC experience with a great cut, with a stylist that wasn't rude at all!!! PS I paid $75 for that cut without a Groupon and I LOVE it. read more

Really wanted to have a great experience like others have shared. Unfortunately, I didn't. While I understand that there can be miscommunication about hair color, when I expressed my concern several times throughout the appointment, I was dismissed condescendingly and told I was wrong. I was also charged way more than my original quote. And I now have to pay for corrective color somewhere else because he was intent on doing what he wanted. There were several red flags that I dismissed before the color & cut even started; I wish I would have followed my gut and left the appointment. I was desperate. My hair had not been professionally cut or colored since moving to Austin because I'd had the same stylist for 10 years and was nervous about trying a new one. But one day I looked in the mirror and realized my head looked like a half-chewed candy corn. The ends were raggedy and dark brown and my roots a lighter reddish brown, in what the daughter referred to as a "reverse balayage." (No, I don't expect this to become a new hair trend.) Before I start the review, let's get the confusing part out of the way: Perry's Hair Studio is located inside Grapevine Salons, which seems to be a collective of beauty salons under one roof, within a strip mall. Cool concept I haven't seen before. Back to my hair. Color is the most important aspect to me and my former stylist was so good at it, I let her choose whatever color she wanted and switch it up when she felt like it. So I was adamant that my new stylist consider color a priority. Perry's marketing and reviews indicated just that. Note that the phone number for Perry's Hair Studio is his cell phone, so you'll likely have to leave a message. But he called back the same day, discussed my hair, suggested that because I was using a Groupon deal, it might cost extra for certain services (like long hair or stripping the old color), and scheduled the appointment for 3 days later. Perry was fun to chat with (not TOO chatty) and really does know his trade. He matched my roots to my ends flawlessly (no extra charge) and gave me lots of advice on hair care and products. The only additional charge was for length of hair--mine is...was...really long. I say "was" because Perry ended up cutting quite a few inches off. I know it needed it, but I regret agreeing to long layers because I knew I don't like my hair layered. Still, when I got home, the daughter quipped how gorgeous my hair looked, so I consider the gamble on a new hair stylist a success! read more

Unfortunately I did not have a good experience. While Perry was very kind, he did not listen when I talked about how I liked my bangs and they turned out way too short and uneven. I purchased a groupon and was charged the additional $20 for hair past the shoulders, even though I only got a cut (fine print says $10 additional for cut only). While I understand that it's in the "fine" print, I think it would be more fair to simply include the extra $10 or $20 in the price of the groupon- having hair past the shoulders is pretty common. read more

Ive been looking for a place to color my hair and as I am newer to the area thought I'd try Groupon for places that have good reviews and maybe a deal for first time clients. I found Perry Sanders Hair Studio with an offer for haircut & full highlights for $81.00. I called the number to book an appointment and got voicemail. Later the next evening he called and left me a msg between 7-8pm. Then called the following day in which we spoke. I told him that I had purchased his Groupon offer for a full highlight and would like To Schedule An Appointment with him. He asked how long my hair was. I told him just past my shoulders about to middle of my back where my bra line is. He replied "I don't do long hair", surprised and confused I responded explaining that I had recently gotten it cut and it was fully layered, therefore not all long or one length and thin. He responded again "I don't do long hair' I was taken back yet again so there was an awkward moment of silence, so he then said "reason being is it's too long for my foil slips". ???? This really confused me because I've been coloring my hair for YEARS and have NEVER been told this once by anyone let alone someone advertising as a professional salon. IN ADDITION, his advertisement has pictures of women with long hair (longer than mine) AND it says on the offer under "Fine Print" "Additional fee may apply for beyond should length or extremely thick hair; additional $10 for cut option; additional $20 for color/highlight options." I then asked him what do I do about the Groupon I purchased and he said "Call Groupon back and work something out". After hanging up with him I looked back up the Groupon and googled his business name which led me to this yelp page where I see EVEN MORE pictures of women with long hair (attached below) that he uses for advertising hair he does. Therefore, what I believe is that he didn't want to honor Groupon purchases and had second thoughts about his deal with them as he didn't know me from Adam and he'd basically turned me away without ever even laying eyes on my hair or the length of my hair. He was unprofessional and my brief interaction with him was very disappointing because I had otherwise been happy to find him based on his good reviews. Just to test my theory, I even tried saying then how about I have you do my daughters hair as she is mixed and he also claims he specializes in curly or course, thick hair. She has thick curly hair, however explained he wouldn't even need to color her hair, she just needed a conditioning. At that point the phone disconnected and I was talking to dead air. I felt like I was in the twilight zone. I can't believe how unprofessional he was or the level of just how much he didn't want to honor a Groupon purchase THAT HE ADVERTISED. Someone like that does not deserve ANYONES hard earned money or trust, I don't care how well he does hair. Apparently he is only interested in the money and NOT THE CLIENTS or potential clients.. Doesn't make any sense at all. My mind is still blown. That's really sad! read more
