I've been struggling with finding a reasonably priced salon since moving to Austin. Thanks to Yelp reviews I gave Hair Shack a chance and was paired with Lance. Just had my third cut because Lance is great! He takes his time, is considerate of your opinions, and provides a high quality cut at a reasonable price. Oh and he's great to talk to, a truly caring man. I've had many compliments on my cuts and am thrilled he took a chance when I decided to go short. I think he was as excited about it as I was. Nicholas Rocco is the best! He is a master at his craft. He has been doing my hair for over 2 years :) his cuts and styles are very fresh and I have yet to find someone in austin as good as doing "blonde" as him. Huge factor to mention he is FAST!! I am transitioning back to my natural black brown hair. My appointment was with Lance for some lowlights. I had dyed brown over blonde, and the brown faded, so my roots had a sharp contrasting line. I recently went to this place called the hair shack. I should've known better, because of the name. Let me tell you, and I am an old man and I have been around for a long time on this earth. I've been to a lot of barbershops, salons, Hell I've even gotten my haircut and a barn when I was a kid. You would think that getting your haircut in a barn would be the worst experience out of all of the haircuts you get your life. Well, I got news for all of y'all... This place, is the absolute worst hair salon if you even wanna call it that, I've ever experienced. My so-called stylist, Lance, was ranting and raving about his political ideologies the entire damn time I was getting my haircut. Now, I don't know about y'all, but when I got to get my haircut, I'm trying to relax. I was so insulted I won't go into detail about what this so-called professional in this so-called professional establishment sad that offended me, but I will tell you this I will tell every single person I know, at church, at work, Hell, I am going to tell a stranger in front of me in the line at H-E-B about Lance at the hair shack on Mesa Drive in Austin. I got a keratin treatment from Rocco at Hair Shack about a month ago. It's the first time I'd ever had that done, and given the high expectations I wanted to wait a bit to see how it held up before writing a review. I'm pleased to say: so far, so good. My hair is naturally fine, flyaway/frizzy, with a very strong wave. Since the brazilian blowout, it's been much easier to tame with just a tiny bit of product, and I've been able to make it look almost salon-good with my own straight-iron (and limited skills). Rocco did a great job. I'm looking forward to many more weeks of calm hair. read more

I got a haircut and shave and was hesitant at first because I'm more of a "supercuts" kinda guy. But I was met with a barber that was laid back and willing to guide me through what I wanted. I have never been disappointed with Heather, she's great and reliable, and a total sweetheart! Lance is great! I'm so glad I gave Hair Shack a call. Lance is personable and a great stylist. I got a shampoo/condition, cut and blowdry for $35.00. The style is a short pixie cut. He explained what he was doing as he went along, which I prefer. He improvised on a photo I brought in that showed only the back of the cut. I'm very pleased. So I was recently in town for the Lady Gaga concert. Yes, I know she played in my home town (LA). However, I sometimes like going to ATX for concerts since they have a lot smaller venues, making it that more intimate with the musician. I also have a lot of friends out there that I like to see as well. That being said, while in town I decided to check out a local salon, just to get my sides and back cleaned up. Being from LA I'm used to the BEST, of everything really. Especially Hair salons; a few local friends suggested I check out this guy Nicholas Rocco at his new shop. Upon sitting in his chair, I was a little apprehensive after noticing his nearly 15 Cartier Bracelets on both wrists. But after talking for a few minutes, as well as mentioning some of his A list male clients, such as JJ Redick, I began to feel a more chill less pretentious vibe. Not to mention JJ, Is one of my favorite BB players! Nicholas gave me a great cut and I enjoyed hearing about the local news/ gossip! Will be back next time in town! read more

Nicholas is Pure magic! He is a color genius. I originally came to Nicholas and he turned me from a dull blonde color into a blonde bombshell. When I decided to become a brunette, he created the most beautiful color suited just for me. Now back to blonde again, I feel like Nicholas has created a color beyond perfection. I get my hair done by Kate. She does teh cut AND color. I do normal highlight on top and fire engine red underneath so it obviously take a some time to get it all done but she is happy to do it all. She's funny and is always able to get me in within a few weeks. read more
