Came here looking for a snack on my way back from Whidbey Island. Saw there was Filipino food (yessss) Service was friendly. There were a couple people working there mid afternoon on a Saturday. It felt like a bigger space for a Filipino spot. There was also seating inside. Came here specifically for some lumpia. I got the 6 pieces for $10. The lumpia meat fat/oil was separated so it created a mushy layer between the wrapper. The sweet sauce to dip it in was weird. It was refrigerated but had a glob in between with water - kind of like when you open a bottle of ketchup and the liquid spouts out. Found this Filipino market. Decided to stop and order food. They have a holiness in back. They even sold dinuguan!! Asked for 6 piece lumpia. They asked if I could wait six minutes. Best thing i ever did!! That lumpia was da bomb!! Best i had in along time. We ate it in the car it was good!! The singing was soot on and pandit was huge serving!! Love this place! read more

We are repeat customers and enjoy the Filipino food options whenever we are in the area. The ladies there are friendly and helpful. We last visited in November so I am catching up on my review. Highlights were the sinigang, dinaguan, bistek, pancit, pork lumpia, tortang talong, and desserts. We didn't enjoy the beef lumpia, lechon (not crispy and very chewy) or the beef caldereta (too sweet), but everything else was delicious. This restaurant is wonderful! My husband and I came to Whidbey Island for a wedding and left the wedding rather hungry. We saw Perla's while driving by and stopped to see if they had hot food. Sure enough, they did! We had the lumpia and pancit. Our plates were overflowing with both and the prices were reasonable. We left the bridge full and hope to return some day! read more

My friend take out us for lunch to try Filipino food, we are disappointed we order pancit, spaghetti and dinuguan taste terrible.

I was really looking forward to trying this place after being away from Washington state and the Filipino cuisine for so long but unfortunately, my experience fell short. The service was really good but the food was horrible! The ambiance hmmm I was hesitant about ordering because one of the ladies was blowing/digging in her nose but she didn't take orders or money. As for the food, the adobo was overly salty and lacked the balance of flavors I expected and the chicken was dry. The lumpia was soggy instead of crispy, and the filling was a sausage and there was no seasoning in the pancit. Oh and the sauce for the lumpia was water. I wanted to like this place, but sadly, it didn't meet my expectations. I hope they improve because Filipino food deserves better representation. read more

Filipino food Oak Harbor! This is a turo-turo (point point) eatery so there is food in warming trays, cafeteria style. Also attached is a filipino convenience store so you can stock up on mama sita products or silver swan soy sauce. I got pork sinigang which was perfect on this cold blustery day! Lechon kawali (or bagnet) i got looked promising but sadly the skin was not crispy at all and a bit chewy. This should not deter you from checking this place out. Staff seemed very friendly!They also had humba, tortang talong and pinakbet which looked good but i didnt get to try. read more

Perla's serves solid Filipino food in an unexpected place (downtown Oak Harbor). I am part Filipino and, as you might guess, the only five-star Filipino in my book is my in my mom's kitchen. Very few restaurants have come close to my mom's lumpia, ginataang, adobo, or pancit. But Perla's is up there with a select few restaurants that we *have* to frequent when we're near. I do not eat dinuguan (what child who was ever fooled by the words "chocolate meat" does?) but my husband swears this is some of the best he's ever had. The turon, with its ample banana and perfectly crispy, carmelized shell, is a cut above many I've had in the Puget Sound. The pork adobo is well seasoned with onions to cut the fattiness. The lumpia is generously portioned compared to other restaurants but not my fav. To be fair, my mom's lumpia (and now mine) is the best in the world, so the bar is set pretty high. All in all, Perla's is one of my favorite Filipino restaurants in Washington State, and if you're in the area, please give them a try. Their menu is fairly extensive and they also have a small grocery. This community treasure deserves to last long after the pandemic. read more

Craving Filipino food, Perlas will satisfy it. BUT, it's always been a hit or miss whenever I order Lumpia or Pancit. Depending on who's cooking will I order food "to go." The last lumpia I ordered it was made with beef. It was so dry, not sure why because I've always had the pork. Pancit was over cooked that the noodles were in little pieces, too much water was used that it was soaked on the bottom of the container. Carrots and cabbage were over cooked that it was waaaay to soft. Too much soy sauce was used so it was very salty. I always make sure Ate' Dina is working because I know she'll cook my food perfectly! Everyone there is super friendly and her grocery store is stocked with many items you would need. If you can't find it there, head over to Saars Market that's 10 mins away. read more

Yum! I was visiting Whidbey for a few days and stopped here to pick up some takeout. I got a banana lumpia, which I ate immediately: it was warm, crispy on the outside, with a soft cooked plantain on the inside, with just the right amount of sweetness. I picked up some chicken adobo and steamed veggies to go. The adobo was so flavorful, a bit salty but that's the nature of the dish. The only place on the island to get Filipino food. You know it's good when you see 4-5 Filipino grandmothers in the kitchen. I usually order 4-5 things for dinner. Tons of snacks and a nice variety of hot foods on the Saturday afternoon that we went. The lumpia was fried fresh to order. It was super tasty and nice and crispy. I came for the lechon and it didn't disappoint. The laing (stewed taro leaves in coconut milk) was one of the best I've from a point-point joint. And I'm still enjoying it 2 days later. Came here to satisfy my cravings for filipino food. I ordered Sinigang and beef Caldereta. The Sinigang was bland and the meat and veggies was not cooked long enough so it was very tough. I put it aside optimistic for the next dish. The beef Caldereta tasted like tomato paste, tasting nothing like it was supposed to. Its a shame that this is one of the only filipino restaurants in the area for people who have never had filipino food will be disappointed. My bill also came out to $47 for 3 people ordering 2 entrees each with 4 bags of chips. Which i would not mind the price if the food was high quality. Hey, I LIKE this place! Have been a half-dozen times and like it more each time. It was originally recommended as a local source for Asian groceries, but they also prepare and serve Filipino food for in-store dining and/or take-out. It's totally bare-bones (plastic tableware and paper towels for napkins) but the staff always exudes that famous Filipino warmth and, if you are a halfway nice person, they make you feel like part of the family. Now I go in for the food AND the friendliness! I'm unqualified to judge authenticity, but really like most of what I've tried. Some of it is a bit intimidating to a gringo, like the blood pudding, brain dishes, and fattier meat items, but there's lots to suit both the adventurous and the faint-hearted (helpfully, they'll let you taste, in case you're unsure). Also great that the daily fare seems to change a lot, so not monotonous. Have become addicted to the "pritong mani" snacks (fried peanuts with garlic chips)! It's now on my short list of Oak Harbor favorites! read more
