I've had my Japanese steel hair shears sharpened by 'master craftsmen' only & thought it normal to brutally slice fingers after a fresh sharpen .. I now know this to be false. Budd aligned my shears & not even a superficial nick 50 haircuts deep! My shears were practically ruined after I'd sent them away to be sharpened during covid, so I truly didn't have high hopes for Perfect Edge Sharpening , I just knew it couldn't be worse than the previous job. Budd immediately recognized the type of blade/craftsmanship, which assured me that he's knowledgeable. He asked for me to pick them up at end of day to guarantee his undivided attention (no problem!) they were ready when I arrived & for a very reasonable price. I dropped my cooking knives at billings hardware in Belmont Shore. The knives were done yesterday and I just picked them up. The ad is saying best sharpening service in Los Angeles, but sorry it's by far the worst I have ever been to. I got these sushi knives from a handcraft shop in Tokyo Japan and saw them how they were made. So, for me these knives almost have a soul. When I picked them up today I was devastated since the knives are ruined, brutally pulled through a sharpening machine and done. These people have never heard about wet stone sharpening or sharpening with a leather belt. So, if you do have any quality knives, anything which should be more sharp then a spoon, please do not go there. Billings will charge you either way "because we have that guy in a truck who does that"... The knives served for almost ten years and were a lot more sharp when I dropped them. Horrible, horrible service and sorry I have to say that again this has nothing to do with craftsmanship, I even cannot find words for that! Avoid this sharpening service! read more

I dropped off 3 chef's knives, a paring knife, serrated bread knife, and a utility knife here for sharpening. While the drop off and pick up were seamless, and the turnaround time was short, the edges on my knives have worn out in less than 6 months. I can rub my fingers along the blade back-and-forth pretty fast without getting cut. You shouldn't be able to do that with a properly sharpened knife. I had the same knives sharpened at another place several years ago and the edges lasted for years. I take good care of my knives, only cut on wooden cutting boards, and hone them regularly so by comparison this place doesn't do as good of a job. For the price ($68), I expected similar if not better results than the previous place I took them. read more
