So I went in for the first time to Mr. Sharpe today to get some knives sharpened for my dad for his birthday. It's always dads and their tools, haha. Anyways, I showed up in the afternoon on a Tuesday, and I was the only one there. Shortly after walking in, a man who I presume is the owner, helped me out right after I said I had 2 knives to get sharpened. The front area has a big wooden cutting board that you can use to demo the knives out after they're sharpened, which I thought was cool. There's also walls and walls of cool knives, which I couldn't tell if they were for sale or for demos, but they were really cool to look at while I waited. The service was incredibly reasonably priced. I was out of there with sharpened knives in less than 10 minutes and the space was reasonably large. I hope that means the business is doing well. It certainly deserves to. I got exactly the service I requested. The quality of the knives was so good that my dad actually got a little cut after I gave them back to him. Nothing major, but was a bit funny and definitely proof that they were quite sharpened. The value for the time was extremely good. This is the type of small business that you definitely want to support, and I'll definitely be recommending Mr. Sharpe knives in the future. read more

Absolutely one of the best customer service experiences I have ever received. Melvin helped me out and set me up in the system right away. He told me they would be done in 15-20 minutes so I ran next door to grab some lunch. When I returned, they were ready to go. He explained what he did, addressed a few minor concerns about how I am storing my knives, and packaged them up to go. These knives are so sharp, it's kind of crazy. Found the shop after scoring big at my local thrift shop with 4 shun premier knives and a utility knife. Talked with Melvin on the phone and he said I could come through. I got to the shop, he quoted for all 5 plus my chef knife, bread knife, cleaver and fillet from home, and within 30 minutes, my knives were ready. Fast and friendly. I had a good experience with these guys. I used to use them when they had a mobile cart in front of the Marina Farmers Market. They are conveniently located off Willow St near the Signal Hill Costco, in an industrial strip mall with a free private parking lot. Hours are somewhat limited so be sure to check the website or call in before you show up. I had 8 knives and all together it was $80. It might have been slightly higher than I was expecting, but they came out like razors so I was very happy with them. I won't have to touch that butcher block for a while. I've been a customer of Mr. Sharpe for a couple years where I would visit their booth the Fatty Mart Market. I'm thrilled that they now have a brick and mortar location in Signal Hill, not far from my home. I recently popped in for a quick sharpening. During my visit, Melvin helped me out. Needed my knives sharpened desperately, so I called on a Saturday afternoon around 11am to ask if I needed to make an appointment, and they said no, just walk right in! They told me they moved their location to 3100 E. Willow St. as of MARCH 1, 2025. So I came in about an hour later with 7 knives. 30 minutes, and $79 later (would've been $76 with cash), my knives are razor sharp again. A thing of beauty I must say. I put a ridiculous amount of chips onto a fancy $300 Japanese stainless steel knife by cutting into banana bread with NUTS in it. I put the knife away in storage and forgot about it for months because I thought it would probably cost at least 150 to repair the ruined edge. Out of a whim, I looked up knife repair on yelp and found Mr Sharpe open for another hour. I thought to drop by and leave the knife there so I could pick it up when it's ready, but they managed to repair it flawlessly in less than 10 minutes and only charged $17 to restore a useless piece of steel back into the laser it once was. These guys are at the Mission Viejo farmers market Saturday mornings. Melvin seemed really nice and knowledgeable. He sharpened four knives for me and I am very happy with the results. I keep my knives fairly sharp, but never quite as sharp as they were new just out of the box. Over the years, I've tried various sharpening tools and techniques, but could never quite reproduce the sharpness of the original manufacturer's edge. Melvin did it in less than 15 minutes. Prices were reasonable. I think $1.75 per inch, so my 4 knives, all between 7 and 10 inches, ran about $30 total. It was worth it and I'll be bringing them more knives. In the meantime, I've rediscovered the caution that goes along with handling REALLY sharp knives. read more
