I got to the shop, he quoted for all 5 plus my chef knife, bread knife, cleaver and fillet from home, and within 30 minutes, my knives were ready. A nice big shop that is easy to access and close to the freeway. Daniel made quick work of the three knives I brought it, all with different levels of wear and damage. He sharpened and fixed the tips of two knives, and repaired one with a big chunk missing after a friend had a go at opening a coconut... Seems a fair price for the work done. Fast and friendly. I had a good experience with these guys. I used to use them when they had a mobile cart in front of the Marina Farmers Market. They are conveniently located off Willow St near the Signal Hill Costco, in an industrial strip mall with a free private parking lot. Hours are somewhat limited so be sure to check the website or call in before you show up. I had 8 knives and all together it was $80. It might have been slightly higher than I was expecting, but they came out like razors so I was very happy with them. I won't have to touch that butcher block for a while. Needed my knives sharpened desperately, so I called on a Saturday afternoon around 11am to ask if I needed to make an appointment, and they said no, just walk right in! They told me they moved their location to 3100 E. Willow St. as of MARCH 1, 2025. So I came in about an hour later with 7 knives. 30 minutes, and $79 later (would've been $76 with cash), my knives are razor sharp again. A thing of beauty I must say. These guys are quick, professional, friendly, and knowledgable. I left for the bank while they sharpened my knives and they just texted me when they were ready. So easy. I put a ridiculous amount of chips onto a fancy $300 Japanese stainless steel knife by cutting into banana bread with NUTS in it. I put the knife away in storage and forgot about it for months because I thought it would probably cost at least 150 to repair the ruined edge. Out of a whim, I looked up knife repair on yelp and found Mr Sharpe open for another hour. I thought to drop by and leave the knife there so I could pick it up when it's ready, but they managed to repair it flawlessly in less than 10 minutes and only charged $17 to restore a useless piece of steel back into the laser it once was. These guys are at the Mission Viejo farmers market Saturday mornings. Melvin seemed really nice and knowledgeable. He sharpened four knives for me and I am very happy with the results. I keep my knives fairly sharp, but never quite as sharp as they were new just out of the box. Over the years, I've tried various sharpening tools and techniques, but could never quite reproduce the sharpness of the original manufacturer's edge. Melvin did it in less than 15 minutes. Prices were reasonable. I think $1.75 per inch, so my 4 knives, all between 7 and 10 inches, ran about $30 total. It was worth it and I'll be bringing them more knives. In the meantime, I've rediscovered the caution that goes along with handling REALLY sharp knives. read more
