Pretty cool service, my wife recently told me that she was frustrated with how dull her knives. Found these guys and gave them a call. I had a chance to speak to Mike over the phone before I had them sharpened. Basically this company deals in bulk and the prices drop per knife the more that the customer sharpens. We had about 20 knives to sharpen and they ended up being about 7 dollars a knife when it was all said and done. The part that was pretty cool is that they send you an empty box directly to your house. It comes with a shipping label and some packaging material. After the knives were shipped back I got a phone call personally from Mike confirming that everything was perfect on my order. I cannot even begin to describe how sharp these knives were. I had a great experience with Schmidt's knifes. To start with, the service itself was beyond satisfactory. The sharpening Mike provided for my felling axe was immaculate. With such a hunk of dull steel, he sharpened it sharp enough to shave hair yet allowed the blade to retain enough strength. He really understands how to shape a blade and how to properly deal with steel. I have not brought in knives yet, but from his work on my axe, I'm positive they can make them perfect. Now on the business side, Schmidt's is really that perfect small business that has the time and vision to care about providing quality as opposed to just meeting a profit margin goal. First of all, they obviously specialized in knives, but were flexible enough to let me meet them at their workshop to sharpen my axe and were very considerate about not wasting my time. Not only that, but Mike drove quite a few miles to meet me and sharpen my axe for next to nothing. Fantastic service! I had 4 nice chefs knives (3 Japanese and 1 American) and 4 high-end steak knives done. Sharpening job was great -- even repaired one of the steak knives that had a cracked tip (didn't know you could even do that) and brought it back to its original form (all be it 2-3 millimeters shorter than the others). The whole process was great -- getting the pre-labeled box, sending out the knives and getting alerts all along the way with regards to status, and getting them returned in 4-5 business days total. One Happy Customer :) i have a small 4-6 inch paring knife that i needed sharpened probably worth about 100 dollars (it's a Kramer). it's my favorite to cook with, i don't really enjoy cooking with big knives in the kitchen. This site is fantastic. Saw an online ad for another company, did some research and found Schmidt's Knives also offered replacement knives while yours were sharpened. Only took 4 business days including shipping both ways to have our knives returned. Packaging was solid and very easy to fill and seal. Knives were super sharp, including the serrated knives and scissors. Only feedback was one of the knives they sent as backup was enormous and wasn't needed, but not a big deal to have an extra huge knife for a few days. read more

Got a whole new set of knives!!! Prompt, professional service....  I talked mostly with Jessica but I had a chance to meet Mike through appointment. I had about 10 large knives sharpened, one with a broken tip... and a pair of scissors -my bill was almost  $75.   Turned around time was next day and I liked the text message and email notifications. My favorite part was probably the final product and presentation.  I brought in my knives in a crumpled trader joes paper bag and when I received them they were packaged so professionally.  The way they were wrapped, covered, scratches removed off the sides of the knife, just everything felt really really classy.  And of course the most important part- SHARPER than when I even purchased them. Too expensive. Might be good if you have a $500 knife you need sharpened and can live without it for a couple of days, otherwise you will be forking our 20.00 each time. Where do I start? I used to be the type of person that didn't think anything of it when my knives were dull. I would just keep using them even if they couldn't slice meat or vegetables properly, and I would go over the same area again and again. I guess you could say I just never really understood how important it was to take care of knives in general. I have a couple of Wusthof knives I inherited from a family member that needed servicing. I have never used an online knife sharpening service before, but I decided to give Schmidt's a try. This place was really helpful and their shipping process was super easy. They even sent me a box to pack my knives in so I didn't have to wrap them up in newspaper. They also gave me shipping labels so I could just call and have my knives picked up at my house. When I got the knives back, they were ready to use. Mike from Schmidt's Knives did a fantastic job! I called him on Monday or Tuesday before Valentine's to ask about his service and he personally walked me through the whole process on the phone. I had our entire knife block sharpened as a Valentine's gift for my husband. This was a total of 11 knives (chef's knife, two santoku's, a serrated bread knife, a filet knife, and 6 non-serrated steak knives) plus a pair of kitchen shears. I dropped the knives off on Friday afternoon and they were finished by Saturday morning! SUPER FAST! Not only did Mike sharpen the knives until they were better than new, he sanded and polished the knife block until it gleamed, even tied a bow around the whole thing since he knew it was a Valentine's gift, and did all the extra work at no charge. He even dropped them off at my house on Valentine's morning for free because he was in the area! GREAT SERVICE!! The total cost was well under $100, and worth every penny. I have a mix of Henckel and Shun knives that we're desperately in need of sharpening. The Shun knives had never been resharpened in the eight years we've owned them and when my kids were younger, they decided to see if the could open cans with them. Let's just say they showed many nicks in the blade edge. I was very pleased to receive all my knives back in "like new"condition and the mailing process is easy and very efficient. You might think that the high ratings for this business come from rating stuffing or something. They aren't. I never write reviews but had to after trying these guys. They truly have the best service of any online business I've ever used (yes, this includes Amazon and Nordstrom). I have a really nice Shun knife that got chips in the blade. I was sick about it. I emailed Schmidt and they promptly replied that they fix such things with any knife they sharpen. The best thing that happened was a simple question at the end of the reply: 'what else can i answer for you?'. They clearly care about helping customers. Pretty simple, did exactly what the website said.  I thought the box was simple but effective.   My Kramers turned out beautiful, even had a knick on the one of the handles that was polished or buffed out. I packed a military kbar with a broken tip that was repaired at the same price with no surcharges.  Really pleased.  Initially wanted to drop some knives off but was told for the same price everything is right at my front door.   Decided to give it a shot, glad I did.  I live in Orange and just wasn't worth driving to get my knives sharpened. I had an awesome experience with Michael at Schmidt's Knives. I had bent my Wusthof chef's knife blade a few years ago, and finally decided to try to get it fixed. I saw that Schmidt's was local so I contacted them. Michael responded almost immediately. The customer service was excellent throughout my whole experience. Michael very clearly explained how they would repair my knife. I dropped off my knife on Sunday morning and it was repaired by Sunday evening! They went above and beyond what I expected. Finally getting around to writing a review for these awesome people. The week prior to Thanksgiving I realized that every single one of my knives had turned to utter garbage. Now I'm a Chef, and when I worked at the Ritz Carlton we sharpened our knives weekly. Here I was 7 years later since my last full bore sharpening session, in a quandary. There are a good number of people out there that will put an edge on your knives, but you put an amazing edge on my knives, even my Police serrated folding knife. I'd been meaning to have my knives professionally sharpened for quite some time, they were long-overdue for it, but I'd failed to make the time and a few attempts at finding a mobile knife sharpener didn't work out because of schedule conflicts. Finally I gave Schmidt's a call and ended up speaking with Mike, one of the owners of the company. He was as nice as could be, very accommodating. He was able to arrange an appointment for me to drop off my knives mid-day, gave them a quick assessment and they were ready by 5 pm. And after sharpening, these knives (plus a pair of scissors) are super-sharp, good as new ! I'd say the pricing was also very reasonable, and they were packed up for me very nicely in a cardboard box with foam slots for each knife to hold them all securely. I've had other local places just put them all together in a box, so they were sliding around on each other, which seems to defeat the purpose a bit.
