For males: stick with Toni, because Steve decided to give me uneven, summer haircut that I didn't request. Toni will be creative giving you ideas depending on what you want to have done and what would look better and will cut your hair and do your beard however you desire. Steve will ask what you want and do something different. Steve never again, nice guy though. Toni, you better let me know next time before you take few days off so I don't get shaved like this This place also has coffee, tea or cake, pie, snacks for customers while they wait. I called from work to see if they had an opening (and on a Monday); Tony said to come on in. Tony did a fantastic job with my wash and trim (he showed me exactly the amount he cut) & blowdry and his lovely wife did wonders flattening and making my hair super straight and shiny. I am not from the area (traveling medical professional) and I was pleasantly surprised of the fantastic service, and you cant beat the price. I would highly recommend this salon!! Plus they are genuine nice people (unlike some of these high end salons)....if your looking for a good cut, not feeling rushed and not wanting to spend a fortune I would highly recommend Perfect Cut!! read more

If you are looking to get a nice short haircut, please stay AWAY . I had my hair cut by Tony. Super nice gentleman. But when a 70+ old gentleman is spraying your hair with water bottle before the cut you run away. When he can barely hold your lock of hair you run away. When he DOES NOT section your hair you run away..... I could have given myself better haircut with my eyes closed. Not even exaggerating. read more

This lovely mom and pop place below Romeo's really knows how to make me feel at home in my city. They're skilled, friendly, and super accommodating to walk ins. This is my favorite place to take my three year old for a cut. The stylist is SO good with him. My favorite thing he does is let him feel each buzzer and clipper before he uses it. It really helps ease haircut fears. He talks to him and tells him what a good boy he is being through the entire cut, and there's always a handful of lollipops at the end. Even more impressive - they actually do a great cut on my squirmy little boy! I can't thank Perfect Cut enough for just being another cog in my little machine of urban parenting. read more

I have been going to this place for over 20 years. My parents took me there for haircuts when I was young, and I ALWAYS make sure to go to Jeanie to color my hair when I come home for holidays. I have wasted hundreds of dollars to try and find someone who can do it right where I live now, and I have been disappointed every time. Never again. I'm kind of weird about getting my haircut. I don't like having to pay a lot, for one thing. In college, I had a roommate who could cut my hair just the way I liked it. And then I had a little Italian man named Vincent whom I absolutely loved. I'm impulsive - when I decide to get a haircut, I want it as soon as possible without having to wait forever for an appointment. After several months without a haircut, I decided it was high time to hack off the locks. I decided to try Perfect Cut because a friend recommended it and because they had a last-minute appointment Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately, the woman my friend recommended was booked up. Things got off to a rought start. First, the guy who cut my hair didn't seem to understand my fairly simple request despite numerous attempts to explain it. And then he left partway through to go pick up their lunch. That wouldn't have been a problem except that when he returned, he'd apparently forgotten what I'd asked for and began doing something different. I'd asked for about four inches off. He stopped at 1 and thought we were done. Um, no. Another thing I disliked was that he kept making repeated jokes about whether or not you've cut my hair crooked is not really appreciated. Getting my haircut is an experience fraught with anxiety and it's better that you not make it worse. At one point I told him point-blank that he was making me extremely nervous, for which his wife chastised him. I prefer that anyone who cuts my hair project at least a facade of complete faith in their hair-cutting abilities. That's all I really ask. I need YOU to instill confidence in ME with regards to your scissor skills. Still, my hair ended up looking quite cute. And for $22 before tip, I was pretty content. I absolutely love this place. I have a really hard time with the most simple of haircuts due to the unique texture of my hair. Tony works wonders every time. He is one of the only hairdressers I've ever known that can make my hair look proper. They can always take me on short notice, and the wait is never long. The atmosphere is so comfortable, especially with their two adorable dogs that sleep below the counters! The prices are reasonable, and are totally worth every penny. I've never been unhappy about a haircut from there. And every time I try to go somewhere else, Tony is always there to save me after the "other guys" make me look like a muppet. I went in for a TRIM and left several inches shorter...but I get it, they always take off more than you want cut, considering dead-ends and all. I like the cut enough though, despite having several people tell me that it looks a LOT shorter than before. Steve told me I could come back two days later for a chestnut colored dye, so I booked the appointment and was looking forward to it. I left the appointment with the same colored brown hair I went in with, and pretty much all of my grey hairs are still showing :( Still, I have had worse haircuts and have been more upset with what I've looked like after visiting other salons. I've been coming to Perfect Cut for a hair cut for almost 5 years after getting a recommendation from a friend. That in itself should let you know what I think about Perfect Cut but I'll elaborate if you're let's say, "thick". The price for a men's haircut is very reasonable and in-line with most decent places in the area. The location is pretty central, parking can be a little bit of a pain sometimes but it's not too bad. It's a very casual atmosphere and as long as you plan ahead a little bit, appointments are generally accessible. I've only had my hair cut by one stylist here so I imagine the quality and interaction can vary depending on who cuts your hair. read more

I was looking last minute for a place to get a decent haircut in Albany. I called like an idiot about two hours before closing and Tony graciously made me a slot. I always get nervous getting a first-time haircut at a new place but Tony makes you feel like a regular the minute you step in. They always have coffee and coffee cake and chat like you're old friends. I've been three times now and have been happy with my hair every time. Tony takes the time to figure out what you think your hair needs. I've got coarse, wavy hair with three strong colics in the front and Tony has always been able to manage them better than most. I'll always come back here and recommend people to Perfect Cut. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but it's the perfect type of calming mom-and-pop place you want to come to every month. read more

Meant to write this review a few days ago: I went to Gigi last week hoping she could fix the weird mullet growth I had coming in from a previous haircut (I have a pixie cut). I showed Gigi a picture of Christina Brinkley and, although she's a stylist and not a miracle worker, she understood exactly what I wanted and I couldn't have asked for a better cut given my hair length and texture (the bangs, someone has finally nailed the bangs!). I called in to the Perfect Cut for a big job last week (changing color from red to my natural lighter color); Steve took on the challenge with the honesty that it would be time consuming. He was able to fit me in the next day and devoted a whole afternoon to the process. It was a cozy shop with a comfortable and friendly atmosphere (and cute little pup!). By the end of my appointment, after enjoying good and entertaining conversation among the owner and other stylists I felt like I was among friends. I felt well taken care of, and was given many important tips on aftercare and continued care for my new color and new do, which is friggin fabulous btw, I LOVE the color and I keep getting compliments on it! I just recently visited Perfect Cut for a shampoo and hair cut. The instant I walked into the place I was enthralled...it is the funky hole in the wall type of place that makes you feel like you just unearthed a great find, which I did! Tony did my cut, taking care to go a little bit at a time so that there was no major shocks. I had requested bangs, and while the process was slow to get to the right length, it was worth it because he got it just right. Much preferable to stylists who cut first and ask questions later! Tony is a real sweetheart, full of stories and jokes that comes from being in business for 40 years with a big family that is constantly going in and out of the shop. It makes you feel like you are a part of something special. I highly recommend this place to people who want a good and affordable hair cut by a face and smile you recognize. read more

I went into the Perfect Cut in search of a regular nice fade cut. At $20 for men I thought the barbers would be able to perform this simple task (for my college roommate can with little experience and no professional training) but instead my hair looks like I stuck it under a lawn mower. It's choppy, extremely short in some areas and extremely long in others. I have very easy and manageable hair to boot without cow licks or bad crowns. I would not go back to this place and now must pay again to have someone fix my hair. read more

I had my hair cut by Tony and it was easily the best haircut I got since a long time. He is very experienced and passionate about his work. Just went to Perfect Cut for the first and last time. The haircut was expensive, but I'm willing to pay a little extra for a local business and a good experience. Unfortunately, the person who cut my hair (Tony) was preoccupied with the television, answering phone calls, and talking to other customers and his wife. A few seconds of hair cutting would be followed by him walking away from my chair- all of this after having waited for him to leave, run an errand, and come back/find parking. The general sense was that he wanted to do anything OTHER than cut my hair (one time, the phone rang and he exclaimed that he was, "saved by the bell!") Predictably, this resulted in a BAD HAIRCUT. It ended when Tony's wife finished with another customer, left to go into another room, and asked Tony to ring her up. "Well, guess you're done," he told me. I'm sure they have some funny stories (though I didn't hear any) and it is small and the big neon light they have inside is kind of 'funky', but at the end of the day if you need a haircut you want to go to someone who cares a little bit. read more

I live in the area, so my adult son and I tried Perfect Cut because they're just around the corner. I am so excited to have found them! My son and I both had great hair cuts! The atmosphere is friendly and inviting. I felt listened to, and Tony did exactly what I asked, which was terrific because, in this case, I knew what I wanted. This place is awesome! I recently moved to Albany, so finding a new hairdresser is always an adventure. I tried going here on Monday, because they have such awesome reviews, but they were closed. Instead of booking an appointment with them at a later date I was impatient and went somewhere else. Big mistake! I ended up going to some Dominican place asking for a basic trim and ended up getting one of the worst haircuts ever. Yesterday I talked to Tony from Perfect Cut and told him I needed an emergency haircut to repair the botched job and he told me to come in. First bonus is that they allow walk-ins. So, I told him I wanted to chop my hair off and get a short asymmetrical cut. Oh my goodness, he nailed it! Not only did he fix my hair, he gave me exactly what I wanted! Both him and Jeannie are the nicest people and they know their stuff! Prices are very reasonable. I'm definitely going here from now on! read more

Had a great experience here with Tony, who I believe may be the owner. He was exceptionally friendly and nice. I just needed a quick trim and he did a great job. Specifically, he asked me a couple of times to put my hand through my hair to make sure it was the way I liked it. I really appreciated that. I had gone to a different salon on a Wednesday.They wrecked my hair.I called around trying to get a last minute appointment somewhere to fix my hair. I walked into Perfect Cut at 10am on a Friday with my hood covering my hair. I looked at the gentleman sitting in the front and asked if they had any last minute openings to fix my hair. Frankly, I was so embarrassed about what the other salon had done that i didn't want anyone to see it. He asked me to show him what I needed done.I took my hood down and told him I needed it fixed.I have naturally black hair.Jet black hair.I wanted to go violet red, the other salon made me orange blonde. With out any hesitation, they said, sure we can fix it!I was so delighted. They asked me to sit tight for a couple minutes while they set up and even got me a nice little coffee, which i thought was so sweet of them. They made me feel so comfortable throughout the whole thing.The woman owner whose name escapes me took me back and showed me all the color options and recommended a colorance.I decided on a color I liked and they put it in for me and had me sit under the heater for a while. The man owner(tony i think his name was) Came over and washed me out and made jokes with me about how my hair looked.I really enjoyed that they knew what they were doing and were so eager to help me out. He cut my hair and gave it a nice blow dry. It came out PERFECT.I loved it! The real cherry on top of the cake was the pricing.Overall I paid 55$.The other salon charged me 180$ to mess my hair up.I have found my new salon and I will NEVER go to another place again!Thank you again for fixing my hair last minute when no one else would even attempt it!This is the best salon in Albany! I came here late notice on a Saturday with a pretty demanding job- getting my very faded, damaged, poorly dyed reddish-brown hair back to my natural blonde. Steve was kind and patient and made sure I was comfortable with every step of the process, even when it turned out to be more work than we were expecting. He even fixed a haircut I got at a different salon. I came back today to finish the job and it turned out beautifully. I'll certainly be coming back and I can't recommend this place or Steve highly enough. Great experience, reasonable prices, and there's a cute dog as others have mentioned. read more

I love the shop and find it quite entertaining each time I go. Jeanie is my hairdresser but have had Art work on my hair as well. Love them both. Very talented people. I've been getting my hair colored for years and have never had the color stay in my hair as long as their products do. I'm also one of those clients that will drive anyone crazy with by bizaar requests but find Jeanie very willing to do whatever I want.
