Peppino's wasn't too busy when I placed my order at 5:15pm (~15 minute wait); however, the line in customers coming in was steady for the remainder of the time I was there. Everyone was very professional and friendly in addressing questions or concerns (such as one table was missing an appetizer). There is a good ambiance and probably 5-6 tables to eat around for those eating in. Most people seemed to be doing takeout which is probably more normal. Our group ordered the breadsticks and then a chicken/bacon/ranch pizza. All food was made to order and the breadsticks were light and airy, and the pizza had a good undercarriage and was well appointed with toppings. An underrated pizza spot in Pittsburgh. Food (5/5): Honestly, the best Detroit style pizza outside of Iron Born. The difference is the price here is incredible (we'll get to that). The crust is nice and crisp, not hard, with a good char on the edges. There is plenty of sauce and I feel like their normal amount cheese is pretty close to extra cheese, which I love. If I did not live so far away I would get this pizza all the time! Service (5/5): I have sat down here quite a bit because it is too far to bring pizza home without it getting cold. While we did not get waited on because you order at the counter and then sit down, the staff checked on us a few times over the course of the meal. Still a big fan of their Detroit deep dish pizza. Plus, it's nice because you can customize and make it a half-and-half so you can get half of a specialty in one side and half of another specialty on the other side or just create your own if you would like. I also appreciate that you can order quickly online and pay online and you just walk in the door and pick it up. Typically pizzas are ready in 30 to 35 minutes after you order. Terrible management. The manager on duty seemed incompetent and unable to handle the staff. Very unprofessional and clearly not able to perform her job duties. I arrived to pick up my order and the cashier told me they were having an issue with the system not printing orders and it would be 20 more minutes. No problem stuff happens. Then 30 min later when I ask about it they still did not start the order even after people who arrived after me and were eating in dining room received their food. I was told by manager it would be 15 more minutes. I ended up being at this restaurant for over an hour after my original pick up time. I do not blame the hard working 16 and 17 year old kids working there as they were busy but the manager did nothing to help her team or jump in and actually run the kitchen. The manager made every excuse as to why this happened but no apology and in fact tried to make it out to be my fault somehow. My family orders here quite a bit but will now be ordering from somewhere else after this. read more

Just ordered a regular pizza, onions, mushroom and pepperoni. And a side salad. It was all great! Perfect amount of toppings, cheese, sauce. Traditional crust just a little crisp to it. Perfectly done. The salad was a nice size, plenty for two people. And when I called to order, whomever took my order said I think I have a coupon I can apply to the pizza you ordered. Who does that? Most of the pizza places around skimp on toppings. Especially onions, and very few offer coupons/deals. Peppino's is not in the direction I typically travel, but it's not out of the way either. WOW!!! Thank you fellow Yelpers for giving this well deserved pizza place the shout out. I was in search of a place to stop on my way to the Butler, PA area for lunch with family this past Friday. I was looking to support local, and couldn't have been happier to have found them. I have to laugh though (on a side note), earlier in the week on a virtual local happy hour event ,pizza and deep dish style was brought up as a discussion topic by our CM Alex. I had to order their deep dish pizza to check it out and add to my first pizza review. Let me tell you the prices on a whole were extremely reasonable, and well worth every penny spent. Ordered the 10 slice deep dish style pizza with mushrooms for $ 11. After speaking with one of the staff there; found out all ingredients are fresh daily, vegetables, dough, and yes they actually even have a process for their cheese. The sauce was out of this world, reminded me of old school authentic Italian red sauce. The pizza crust, taste and everything was exactly what I excepted and then some for deep dish. The calzones were crisp, filled, tasted just as mouthwatering, and delicious as the pizza. The staff and service were outstanding, well worth the stop for lunch and to take home their pizza. If you find yourself on the 79 on your way to Pittsburgh, and get hungry be sure to check this place out. Its located at the second Zelienople exit and its a short distance, in a strip plaza to pizza lovers haven. Do keep in mind they have salads, and subs as well. I'm giving 4 stars based upon my wife's enjoyment of the pizza. I guess I'm not much of a Detroit style pizza fan, but I know she is. To me it's just too much dough. I decided to order based upon Yelp reviews. Don't get me wrong, the pizza tasted good, I just don't like Detroit style but I ordered it because my wife does. She really enjoyed the pizza. We had breadsticks and sauce. They are basically bite size breadsticks. I really enjoyed those, as did my wife and kids. Next time I'll try a regular pizza and see how that is. I paid $11.00 for a 10 piece deep dish pizza with extra cheese (carry-out) It. Was. Worth. Every. Penny! I love pizza, and am absolutely no fan of chain pizza places; especially in the Zelie-Cranberry-Wexford area. There are so many places to get pizza; chain stores just can't compete with local places that focus on quality and service. However, I'm always willing to try a new place out - especially one I've never heard of around PGH. With that said; I'm glad I tried Peppino's. The quality of the cheese, flavor of the sauce, and texture/flavor of the crust are all on-point. The pizza was cooked perfectly (as shown in the picture) and it was hot and ready to go when I arrived 20 minutes after ordering. (For what it's worth, I ordered off-hours between 2-3pm) The employee who cashed me out was prompt, personable, and courteous. I'd say Goodfellos in Zelie finally has a viable competitor if this place sustains this quality and price point, and puts in place a reliable delivery service to Zelie. I will certainly order from Peppino's again but next time I will try one of their specialty pizzas. Aside from observing Lenten "no meat on Friday" when I ordered, I live by a "simple pizza test:" if you can't make a good slice of plain pizza, there's little hope you'll make a good specialty pizza. Our first visit was excellent. We fully enjoyed the Detroit Deep Dish pizza (half cheese and half pepperoni/sausage), garden salad with extra tomatoes, and bread sticks (plain not cheese). The pizza was awesome. The crust was rich and had just enough crunch on the very edge. The sauce and toppings were perfect. The owners told me that the sausage was made in-house. It was delicious and nicely spiced. For just 2, we have leftovers. The lettuce in the salad was fresh, cold, and crispy. Tomatoes were ripe and juicy. Cucumbers were fancy cut. The bread sticks reminded me of the ones I used to adore as a kid back in Ohio. The order was huge. The dipping marinara was delicious. And, the bread sticks are those short odd-sized fluffy ones that deflate when you bite one. Seriously. Yummy in our tummy. My wife tends to not eat bread sticks and she chowed on these. Happened to be in the area and was unfamiliar with eateries so searched Yelp and Peppino's popped up. I saw a pic of their Detroit Pizza and had to call. It was ready on time and the staff were attentive. Ten rectangular pieces covered in mushrooms was under $11. I ate several pieces in the car because the smell was drool worthy. I only had the Detroit Deep Dish. That said, it is excellent. I don't want to dump on the other two places mentioned in other reviews, but since they were brought up to dump on this place, I will dump away... I've eaten at both other places quite a few times over the years, and I don't really have any issue with them, BUT... This is better. And... I don't know who owns it, but the employees that I met were friendly and seemed proud of the product, and I may be jumping to conclusions, but I believe that all of the employees were local. First I'd like to say that the online order flexibility for this restaurant is exceptional. There are MANY options and details available that provide a truly customizable online order. Next the service and friendliness of the staff is extremely welcoming. 1 of my visits was with a completely college aged/teen-aged staff and they too were prompt, courteous and professional. These folks take a lot of pride in serving their customers. We've visited twice- both were online takeout orders. The quality of toppings is strong, with the sausage being among the BEST tasting sausage I've ever enjoyed on a pizza- truly good! My only topping disappointment would be the bottled/pickled banana peppers, fresh would be so much better. We passed on the peppers. As for the pizza- our 1st visit was near perfection with a perfectly cooked Detroit style pizza having a delicious crunchy crust and well cooked toppings. We raved about the pizza and made plans to serve it over the holidays for a casual game night with friends and family in-town. That said, the 2nd order was a disappointment and had our guests wondering about all the raving we had done. The pizza was undercooked and had none of the Detroit crunch we enjoyed with our 1st order. Instead, the pizza was doughy and the crust was NOT cooked through. Toppings were inconsistently applied and the sausage that I liked so much was sparingly applied and lacked the big chunks we enjoyed on our 1st visit. In fairness I will add that this was a takeout order and we live a good 25-30 minutes from the restaurant. Had I returned or said something, I'm certain they would have made it right. Perhaps it was a busy time or perhaps they still have some wrinkles to iron out but if they do, this will be our "go to" pizza spot. I'll definitely give this place 1 more try and I am hoping our 3rd trip will be the charm and the pizza will equal or exceed our strong 1st impression. I drove 20 miles to try their Detroit deep dish pizza. I liked it enough and it was better than okay, but there was no pie-gasm. I would get it again when in the area, but I wouldn't make another special trip. My only complaint was (of course there's a complaint, I didn't give it five stars, did I ? ) there wasn't enough sauce. It was cooked nicely with extra browned edges, which is what makes a Detroit deep dish, a Detroit deep dish. This used to be my favorite pizza place!! I raved about it to everyone! The past few times it started going down hill. The last time we ordered a week ago was the WORST! Our pizza was full of bubbles so it didn't even taste like pizza, just burnt crust. No sauce really present on the pizza. We ordered the almost $7 garlic breadsticks which showed up as just bread, no butter, no garlic. So disappointed that this place had such great potential and has turned into crap... it was more expensive than other chains but originally worth it. Now just a disappointment. I'll stick with Costco pizza vs this, cheaper and tastier. read more
