This is my second time going here, and I really like it. Both times I've gotten the penne ala vodka (pictured below) and it is always really good. They also have great salads and garlic bread. When doing one day excursions at the Villa Roma, I make my way to this restaurant. It's my third time there. The first time, I loved it ( pre Covid ) second time was with my son was okay but not great and my last time was last week and my first time there during the pandemic and it wasn't good. I walked in with my mask and there was no hostess or anyone other than a pizza maker behind the counter. He said, how can I help you and I said, I'd like a table for myself. He walked away and I'm still waiting. Then some guy with a family said excuse me and cut in front of me and was then seated first. Then the hostess came up to me and said, "How can I help you?" "Just myself for dinner." She looked at me like I was from Mars. Literally a super long pause and delayed reaction with no response. NO RESPONSE, like a deer in a headlight. Mind you, I'm wearing $350 dollar Cole Haan sneaks, a polo sweat shirt and a proper mask. It's not like I walked in bare foot with no mask. I then said, I'd be happy to sit outside out front. It was a cool night but definitely doable. She sat me outside and a waitress came out five minutes later with a glass of water with a lemon wedge on the rim. I'm not a fan of lemon and politely asked if I could get another water without lemon. I forgot my wallet in my parked car across the street and when I came back, there was my same glass minus the lemon but still with the reminense of the lemon she just took off! She didn't give me a new water, she just threw off the lemon! That pretty much said it all. I guess with the Covid restriction they didn't want to waste an inside table for one patron. I got a pizza which I give a 6.2 out of 10. Too much cheese. Not gonna rush back there anytime soon. read more

Been eating at Peppino's for years and always found the food to be good. My wife and I stopped in for lunch yesterday and had a meatball parm sub and two slices of pizza. The prices are not bad but upon reviewing the bill, we observed that we were charged a "non cash payment fee" and an additional "service fee". We asked the waitress about these fees and she advised that the non-cash payment fee was charged for paying the bill with a credit card. She said the service charge is an inflation fee explaining that the restaurant does not want to raise the prices of their food so this helps compensate for current inflation. Nowhere on the menus or tables were these fees stated but upon exiting the establishment I noticed a sign on the front door indicating the above. The sign was small and posted low among other signs. I get that we are all dealing with inflation and have to make ends meet but I find tactics like this just wrong and disrespectful to the very customers that are there spending their hard earned dollars. Either raise your prices or conspicuously post the fees where customers can see them in advance of getting blind sided by them on their bill! read more

A little pricey for what they serve, it's a glorified pizzeria. But for Callicoon has decent food. Service is usually a little better than average. If you go, get their special for the night. Never a disappointment. I wrote the review up before over a year ago. They have gone down hill, service is good but the food is SO overpriced. Highly recommend especially if your staying at the Villa Roma. It's close, the food is great, and nice atmosphere. There is also a nice bar to order appetizers & cocktails. I had the chicken parm and it was delicious! They have a children's menu with lots of selections too. The portions are huge, enough to share with 2 people or take home for later. The only silver lining of an otherwise horrid Villa Roma Resort experience. It was busy, as I expect it would be since it's in a small town with many people and it's quite good. Staff was very attentive and courteous. Despite the large crowd and people waiting to sit, our party of 4 never felt rushed. The prices were reasonable enough and the food was fantastic. Not one item we ordered for our meal was less than above average. Being here for 90 minutes almost made us forget we were guests at The Villa Roma "Resort". My husband and I got to Callicoon 1x per month to our chiropractor appointments. After our appointment we have always gone to Peppinos for dinner. We especially enjoyed the food when it was a smaller restaurant next door to where it is now. While the restaurant is always clean and the staff is usually great, we are quite disappointed with how much the prices have increased and the food quality has decreased. The prices are NYC prices . We also can never figure out how a Veal or Chicken Parm dinner runs $17.95 and a chicken special such as Sorrento is $23.95.. (Chicken w/ eggplant) doesn't seem like a special $7 more just for a little eggplant. read more

Although the food is excellent; we ate there on the patio, 7 adults and 8 children last night. The server was less then accurate. But after we were finished and the bill presented, it was a nightmare. After addressing another server and 2 busboys, we still could not get the attention of our server. Since I am physically challenged, I gave the busboy bill with cedit card ,still no response and after 30 minutes still no response. FinallyI left with the kids and left another family member at the register for another 10 minutes, with an explanation they misplaced the credit card ! Not sure which is worse, the food or the service!!!! Loved it when it was a small pizzeria, but once they attempted to become a restaurant they seem to have lost their way. I'm not sure if it was taken over by new, inexperienced owners because they did not seem to know how to run the "front of the house". With just one couple ahead of us, the hostess took 10 minutes to get our names and 10 minutes to tell us how long the wait was. As soon as we were seated, we were asked if we knew what we wanted. Menus would have helped. I ordered veal Milanese and my friend ordered pizza and a salad. My meal was inedible. The veal was burnt and leathery. Wish I took a picture. Sauce on the pasta was nothing more then pizza sauce. My friends pizza was undercooked and tasteless. Not once did they ask how everything was. My food was literally untouched when the bus boy came to clear our table. When asked if we wanted to take it home I said no, it was terrible and that the chef should be made aware. The waitress brought the check and offered no apology, then I asked if they could make an adjustment. The answer was "no". I asked to speak to the manager and was told there wasn't one (really???), but the owners wife was there and she refused to even speak with us. We paid our bill with a 15% tip and left. Our only recourse is social media. Just because they are the only game in town it doesn't excuse their bad business behavior and bad food. Better off traveling to another town to get good food and be treated fairly and decently. read more

Had the worst antipasto ever. Inedible. Owner's wife would not apologize or take it back or give us credit. Started arguing with me and ruined my night out. I felt like they did not care at all. The veal was delicious but the whole experience was soured by making me feel terrible. They went so far as to go taste the onions and insisted they were not rancid. This place is too SHADY for me. We went to Peppino's for lunch and one of the items we ordered was $3.00 on the menu, but when we got our check, the same item was $4.25. We questioned the difference assuming the waitress just made a mistake, but, nope, we were told there was small print on the menu that read "PRICES SUBJECT TO CHANGE" Wow! Really? Within an hour- the price changed? The staff was not concerned in the least that we weren't happy with the way they handled this. Why would the wait staff not tell the patrons about the price changes upfront? Trust me, it's not about the $1.25, it's the principle of Peppino's being dishonest with their customers. I've seen this place change from when it was the small spot next door to this Italian family restaurant. I liked it better when it was smaller, and seemed to cater more to what Callicoon is. Callicoon is a depressed small town in Sullivan County, and the entire town of Callicoon consists of 3 streets (Main St., Upper Main St., and Dorrer St.). To think that you have to sit down and get wait service to get a slice a pizza is ludicrous. What is a fair tip on a $3.00 slice? Why do I have to leave a tip for a slice of pizza!? I don't like the layout of the new place. The empty bar up front, with the ovens on the other side force you to the back of the restaurant where you have to get wait service. It makes me long for the dollar slice spots in Manhattan( 2 slices and a soda for $2.75 out the door!) At Peppino's, bring $10 for one person. You MIGHT get some change. I've had pizza and wings from this place. Both were about 7 out of 10. I'm not blown away by it. I miss how it used to be. read more

Peppino's is about 2 hours from NYC but you wouldn't know it - their pizza is excellent. Perfect crust, nice sauce, great toppings. Standard Italian entrees are also very good...large portions. Rather extensive (and very affordable) wine list for the area and bartender is knowledgeable about each bottle. Service is always friendly and efficient, even on busy Friday and Saturday nights. Peppino's is a neighborhood Italian-American family restaurant as it should be. read more

We are visiting our family in Narrowsburg, NY and was told that this place had good wings. We went in and the atmosphere was clean, hip...looked like a great bar and good beer and wine selections. I ordered a single order of hot wings..hot with blue cheese to go. They placed the food in a silver container and by the time I made to our family's house, it was still piping hot!!!! I'm from Buffalo, so I know what an authentic buffalo wing should taste like. These wings were delicious!!!! Perfectly cooked and properly seasoned!! The blue cheese was good too...not sure if it was homemade, but it was good. This place is a must go to if you are ever in this this area. My companion and I were traveling through this very lovely area and enjoyed Peppino's so much that we dined twice! We were told that the restaurant was recently renovated - the décor is very appealing. First off, kudos to our server Melissa who was friendly and very attentive! My companion and I enjoyed our lunch and equally enjoyed dinner just as much. Portions are plentiful, the food is prepared very well -- flavors were spot on, and the presentation was great. Stopped for a late lunch after 100 miles on the Gold Wing. Calicoon is a small town, like 4 streets, so I wasn't expecting too much. Very nice place for such a little town. Menu was fairly broad with your standard pizza fare and some more in depth Italian dishes. Wife and I had panini's. Both were very tasty, served on grilled thin pizza dough, not regular bread. Made for a good sandwich, they used a garlic mayo that was quite good. Price was a little more than I would have expected, $34 dollars for two of us including the tip. Portions were quite large, both of us brought half the sandwich home. Would stop again if in the area. read more
