Four of us went for lunch this past Monday, July 17, 2023. It was lunch time and we were one table of three in the place that was filled. To be fair, more people came is as our wait progressed. They offered us the regular menus and a lunch special menu. Two of us ordered off the special menu and two of us ordered from the regular menu. We waited an hour for side salad and soup, and when the soup came, not only did it have no flavor, it was not hot, actually it wasn't even warm. This should have been our warning, but we muddled through. The two lunch specials were the chicken and pasta. You could pick your pasta and sauce. One of our party orders penne and the other angel hair. Both came with penne. One ordered scampi and the other ordered lemon butter. Both came with lemon butter. But the worst was the order for eggplant parm sandwich. One hour after placing my order (I could see in the kitchen and the help was eating as I waited)I was presented with a fried breading sandwich with cheese on two slices of pizza dough. There was no sauce, there was no discernible eggplant. There was the most massive amount of fried breading and dough I have ever encountered. All this for around $18.00 a person. When the waiter came and I returned the sandwich uneaten, no effort was made by anyone to find out why we were not happy. We paid our bill and left, but will not return, clearly. While we were waiting for our meal one of the other tables apparently got tired of waiting for a pizza, and when it came, they got up and left, leaving an uneaten, whole pizza sitting on the tray. So no one batted an eye, they didn't hurry to find out why the couple left, nor even remove the glaring evidence of an unhappy ending. So, the moral to this story is that no one is watching the front of the house, no one is watching the back of the house and clearly no one cares about the quality of the kitchen. read more

This is my local place to go for comfort food. Yes, it is Italian, but the burgers are great! It is known for its pizza. The staff is friendly and well trained, the food is delicious and generous of portion, most dishes can be shared or taken home for great left-overs. If you find yourself in Callicoon, NY and are hungry, this is a winner. read more

The waitress forgot to get us napkins, she offered to bring us black pepper and Parmigiano cheese but she was polite over all we could of just reminded her it is why I gave it four stars if not I would of gave it 5 stars. After a three day drive, finally made it back to Callicoon. Visited Peppino's for dinner. Arrived at 8:00 p.m. and the place was packed. We were seated immediately. Ordered drinks. My usual Margarita and my wife ordered an Apple Crisp Margarita. She said it was quite good. Ordered starters....bruschetta and coconut shrimp. The coconut shrimp are new to the menu. Tasted very good. For the mains, my wife ordered the veal chop and I had the chicken braciole. My wife enjoyed the veal chop. Cooked perfectly with 2 sides. She has had this before. Absolutely great choice. For me, the chicken braciole was rolled in spinach and cheese. Side of pasta accompanied the dish. Excellent choice. Kudo's to Joe and Lindsey. Amazing meal. read more

Consistent fresh food and great service. Atmosphere is awesome weather you sit at a table, a booth or at the gorgeous bar. Pizza and pasta is a GO TO for most and take out is always a great hit too. We enjoyed a chicken mozz spinach dish with generous side dish of fresh green beans and a fresh flounder dish (with green beans and baked potato) , a special of the day (pine nuts and lemon butter made this broiled fish out of this world!) The one star is not about the food. We have been going there for years and have sent other people there to enjoy the food. This was our first visit back since the fall and we were surprised when the bill came.....12% inflation sur charge on the whole bill and we were never told up front, seems that we missed the little sign on the front door ( because we held the door open for people leaving ). We also were hit with another extra charge for them spitting a desert in the kitchen, again we weren't told upfront and it was added along with the food to the 12% inflation fee. We used to love Peppinos, before they moved to their new location. Now it seems as if they just don't care. My son and I suffer from a dairy "allergy". While we don't have an anaphylactic reaction, we both get severe abdominal upset and rashes. In August, I ordered broccoli in oil and garlic with chicken. I specifically requested no butter or parmesan cheese and it came with both. We hadn't ordered since until tonight. I called and asked about the meat sauce, stating we had a dairy allergy. No dairy. I again specifically requested no parmesan, and was assured there was none. There was no obvious cheese but after three or four bites, I knew there was. I called back and the same girl answered and said she checked but she would double check. She came back and said there was indeed parmesan in it. They took my name and will give me my next one free. The guy in the front is Beyond rude and nasty...such a bad attitude all around. Told our friends son that he is socially awkward because he was addressing me and not him for the order. Instead of minding his business he went on and on--just and arrogant angry owner. Then went on to be nasty when I asked if appetizers can be ready before the 30 min wait. Food was blah. Fettuccine undercooked, pasta with butter which you can't mess up even if your bad had no salt and was missing Parmesan after 2 times I told him to add..When I came back to ask for Parmesan, he said it's extra. I would never come back. He is a really negative nasty person and I would feel uncomfortable ever being in that space or have my kids around someone like that. read more

I USED TO LOVE LOVE LOVE Peppinos but not anymore. I placed my usual order yesterday on 8-2-19 a Large meat lovers with extra cheese. I asked to please make it well done I like my crust CRUNCHY!!. I get there and I hear the one guy with hair tell the guy the meat lover leave it in it is a well done. Just seconds after being told he pulles it out and put it in a box and cuts it up and askes me if I need help. I state my name and he asked which is my order I tell him a Large Meat Lover with extra cheese and well done. HE OPENS THE BOX AND SAYS " ITS COOKED ENOUGH"!!! I guess he wants to eat it!!.. Then he looks at the order receipt and sees that it clearly said "WELL DONE" then tells me that if I have him put it back in the oven that it will melt apart. Then the woman sees that I am disturbed and asked me if she can help I explain what occurred and she replies well he is an idiot. I responded well then IDIOTS should not have a job. She then askes me if I want her to put it on a screen and put it back in I advised her he told me it would fall apart. I took my pizza as is. I told her they will lose my business. When I got home to find an undercooked pizza that I ended up throwing away. Yes, it was a doughy mess and not fully cooked but hey it was cooked enough. Don't waste your money with this place. They don't care the option should have been would you like us to make you another or a discount on what I did not ask for. I have waited to write this review because I have always liked going to this restaurant and I was expecting a call from the owner apologizing for our treatment. Unfortunately that never came so here is my review. I called on Wednesday July 12 to make a reservation for 6 people on Saturday July 15. I specifically advised them that we would be having a wheelchair bound guest with us and that I knew it would be easy for her to gain access to the restaurant. I requested a table in the back since there are no steps. When we arrived, there was no table set up for us and after waiting we were given a table in the corner that would in no way accommodate my friend and the rest of us. While we were standing there, a large table opened up and I said that would be perfect but was told that there was a reservation for that table! I replied that we also had a reservation. Well, we ended up sitting outside, in the heat with the sun shining on us. It had to be one of the most horrible evenings we have had in a while. The waitress was not very accommodating. I had to keep asking for dirty dishes or empty glasses to be taken off the table. We ended up taking most of the food home since we were sweating. It was my friends first day out since her accident and we wanted it to be an enjoyable experience for her. It was not. The phone call that was supposed to take place after he asked for my number never came and I will not be going back. Unfortunately I am a local resident and we will now travel a little farther for our Italian fare. read more

I'm a little late in writing this- we run a restaurant a few towns over and took our staff out to dinner after a punishing weekend working the 50th anniversary of Woodstock. We felt a bit guilty rolling in with a party of 8 after being slammed ourselves, but they were so nice and accommodating. Our waitress was a doll. We ordered 7 different pastas with salads and soups and a white pie for my brother in law (and a ton of wine)..everything was absolutely delicious. Fresh and varied and made with love. They have many different desserts that I want to try but we were too stuffed, so we'll do that next time. We have been going to Peppinos for the last two years now after moving into the PA mountains nearby there. I have to say this is a nice find for middle of the mountains and no major city nearby. We are originally from Long Island and they are food and Pizza Snobs down there. I can say Peppinos is a must try even if a little drive. The food and service are very good! Never had a bad meal or pizza here. It is a small town feel with NYC taste of Italian food. Prices are reasonable for the quality of the food. I placed a catering order for 15 adults 2 weeks prior to when we would need it. I made it clear to the person taking my order over the phone that we were coming for the holiday weekend to the area and celebrating Labor Day with friends. That is why we needed catering. I get a call the Saturday 1 week before the holiday weekend saying my order is ready for pick up. I explained that they must be confused, as I very clearly placed my order for the following weekend, Labor Day weekend. The woman I spoke with on the phone insisted I must've told them the wrong date when I placed the order and could I please come pick up the order now. As it wasn't for the date I had requested (and I wasn't in the area), I said no, and asked that they correct my order and change the date to next weekend as I originally asked. She said no, that they would no longer be able to accommodate me. Petty move for a business owner. I work in production management for a living and regularly feed groups ranging from 15-300+. I know how to place a catering order and be clear and concise. When a caterer screws up, it is their responsibility to make things right. It's unfortunate this company doesn't understand this concept and hopefully will provide better costumer service to others in the future. read more

Not JUST a pizza place. The pie's are really good. The sandwiches are good also. They give you a good amount of product on the bread. I personally love the fried calamari. It's small, so it's mostly a takeout but the booths and tables can accommodate a few people and the staff is VERY accommodating. Prices are very good for what you get. Went there again tonight and had pasta. The portion looked okay, but there was so much left that we took the rest home for dinner tomorrow. Check out the entire menu. The place was packed tonight, Thursday, and everything we ordered was fantastic. The only thing I would add is that I just noticed it was rated $$ TWO DOLLAR Signs. Absolutely not true.
