I got a philly cheesesteak delivered to me, it was very cheesy and flavorful. I would definitely recommend this place

The food is always delicious! And restaurant always clean. I always get a steak burrito and love it. I do believe that the portion sizes for rice, beans, queso and some toppings are usually skimped on. The scoop for them are usually only 2oz; and considering the prices it shouldn't be like that. And almost every time I politely ask for a little bit more, it's usually met with some tense energy. Now they try to double charge me for rice even though when I ask for extra it's like an ounce. I never ask for more queso bc I know that they will charge me double, but it is legit a drizzle of queso. Considering is $1.50 up charge the queso portion should be bigger. Especially when compared to Pancheros or chipotle. The food is great that's why I keep coming back, but always a little frustrated leaving paying $15 for a burrito that's half the size of a Pancheros $11 burrito. read more

PepperJax is good! They've made a lot of changes since my last review. The manager, Candy is amazing! She makes sure her staff are well trained, and she is very friendly. The food, as always is good. I always recommend the spicy ranch because their ranch is homemade and is amazing. The rice is so good here, could eat it plain in a bowl. I ordered PepperJax today since I'm at home and didn't feel like leaving. I was really surprised that the meal came still hot as I live on the outside of Cedar Rapids! The sandwich was really good, I would compare it to Jersey Mikes! The bread is really nice and toasty and the steak was good, I enjoyed the mushroom and onion, I did ask for bell pepper but it was missing, but other than that it was really great. Another place I put off visiting only to be disappointed anyway. Since I moved here I'd heard all sorts of chatter about PepperJax and have had a few friends that worked at other locations. It never really called out to me, but after perusing the menu we figured we'd give it a try. There were no other patrons but the dining area was clean and service was friendly and quick. We got our meals to go and the manager suggested we separate the fries from the toppings to travel. I opted to add cheese sauce not realizing my philly did already have cheese and greatly regretted it. I think the veggies on my sandwich were better than the meat but the bread was good. My fiancé didn't finish his food before tossing it. Overall just very disappointed in the taste of the meat. If I went back, I'd probably get the veggies and cheese only. The staff at pepperjax were nice and very down to earth. Service was fast, the place was super clean and the seating is spacious and nice. My o"complaint is the sandwich was a bit pricey, and maybe not the best value option, in connection with the price I didn't believe it was the value option at all. The sub was overly salty, but the cheese and the peppers/onions ratio was on point. I'm willing to give this a try again, I think remixing this sub with less salt would bump it up to atleast a 8.5/10 for the taste. read more

Pepperjax is one of my favorite places to go for a chicken and rice bowl. Semi healthy until I add queso and spicy ranch ‍ Anyway, the manger at this particular location is awesome, and seems to be running the show like a pro. I don't normally write reviews, but today I felt compelled to. I was in line, waiting for my food for a little longer than I'd like (I was hungry and impatient. There was a mix up with a lady in front of me who literally ordered for 10 people, which caused a slight delay), and I asked the pepperjax workers if they had a microwave for my food because there was no heating lamp and it had been sitting there. I was completely out of line, and the food ended up being perfectly warm. Anyway, despite me being a pr**k, the manager, (Ben, I believe - bigger guy with ponytail) handled me with the utmost respect. Offered to remake my food (which I declined). I never knew a fast food joint could do such a solid philly cheese-steak until now. I was passing through the area along my cross country move and after being so totally over fast food in general, this stood out as something different. And it was. I got a signature steak philly (hold the shrooms cause I don't eat no fungus) and my husband got it with the shrooms (he does) plus some pepper jack sauce. Each philly comes with your choice of meat plus grilled onions, peppers, mushrooms and cheese. You can opt to add a cheddar or pepper jack cheese sauce. Husband loved his pepper jack sauce. I loved mine just the way it was. The bread was fresh, the meat seasoned well and cooked correctly. You can't go wrong with grilled onions, peppers and melted ooey gooey cheese. I love the fact that it's cooked to order right in front of you. No hanky panky sketchy cooking done behind a wall. The place was clean and from start to finish I was there maybe 10 minutes. Not bad for cooked to order philly's. We got fries and those were made fresh as well. Everything was hot and tasted excellent. Money-wise, it was a bit more than a typical fast food meal but it was absolutely worth it. The employees were patient with me as I navigated an unfamiliar menu and when I ordered 2 small fries, they were kind enough to tell me they would just charge me for a large as it was the same amount of fries but less money for me. I appreciate someone who helps me out like that. Can't say I'll be back anytime soon as my new city doesn't have a Pepperjax (boo!) but if you're in an area that does, you're in for a treat. read more

Best Phillies in the area! I try to stop here every time I come back to visit family. I always get the Philly Cheese Steak with everything on it (onions peppers and mushrooms) and I have them "fireball" it (cook the meat in jalapeño juice) and add double cheese. I love how the put the cheese under the meat which helps it melt and it also keeps the bread from getting too soggy. The lines can be long but the staff is fast and the line goes by quickly. I don't give out a lot of one-star reviews, but my experience at Pepper Jax was just awful. My first experience was the one on Fountains Drive in Cedar Rapids and it will be my last. The employees there were really the only highlight. They were nice and made my philly the way I asked for it. They didn't do anything wrong. That was the highlight of my visit. There is no way that this is "America's Best Philly" or even close. They salt the crap out of their sandwiches, making them nearly inedible. They try to drown that salty taste by offering a bunch of sauces which can only cover up so much. The whole thing was soggy and just not pleasant. The meat is stringy and not flavorful. Again, the sauce has to rush in to save it. The fries were also salty, overfried and not something I'd ever want anyone else to experience. This place just doesn't do it for me. I may have been there on a bad day, but I just wasn't even remotely happy with my visit. I gave it a second chance later and it was just as bad in another city. Not a good Philly and a bad restaurant experience. Avoid if possible. read more

I visited on a slow Saturday afternoon. I was greeted by a friendly smile and server with pleasant demeanor. I told her it was my first time visiting and she explained the food and offering to me. Complete with Bread fresh from Philadelphia, sauces to top your sandwich and customize the flavor. I opted for a traditional cheesesteak to go and devoured it before leaving the parking lot. The bread was soft helping the sandwich to be flavorful with good quality cheese. The meat and veggies weren't overcooked and the veggies maintained some of their crisp. Should be called the freakin fantastic Famous Philly! I love Philly cheese steak sandwiches. I mean, it's on my bucket list to go to Philly for a Philly. But until that day occurs, I am so satisfied to have Pepperjax Grille. There meat, toppings (choice of peppers, mushrooms, onions, and jalapeños), bread, and sauce combine to make a very filling, very delicious, and very reasonably priced sandwich. It was easy to see that the employee atmosphere was centered around efficiency while being able to maintain a positive experience. About the only thing the wasn't great were the fries. They were meh. But with how filling the sandwich was, I will go with out the fries. And yes, yes there will be a next time. And many times after that! read more

After the first two visits we learned to order ahead so we could actually eat our lunch on lunch break - if you're in any kind of hurry make double sure they put fries down as soon as you order or you'll be standing with a hot sandwich and no fries for a few minutes. Otherwise the premise is solid. Plenty of choices from a basic start - Philly sandwich style meats and hoagie bun flash grilled in front of you. Price is a little high but about average for this kind of place. Clean new building still has the shine to it. Three stars - will return if convenient but wouldn't go out of my way for it. read more

College kids seem to be a primary target as they have a lot of college town locations and are open 'til 3:00 AM on weekends, I presume to catch the midnight church crowd. On my first visit I had the Philly steak sandwich, fireball style, which means jalapeno juice. It was served on generous size hoagie roll that tasted fresh. It could've used a few more peppers and onions. The wife noticed the seasoning which she thought was a little heavy. The sign said you can request light or no seasoning. The fries were tasty and the staff stayed in good humor despite the huge crowd they were feeding during their opening week. I'll probably have a burrito next time to see how they stack up to Panchero's Hot Harry's and the rest. read more

This is a horrible establishment. I have been here three times, and the employees are incredibly rude and disrespectful. I walk in today and a teenage employee with brown curly hair yelled out "do you guys eat anywhere else??" As if he was bothered to do his job. I was further convinced that he was unhappy having to serve us when he said "I'm quitting this job". He went on to roll his eyes as my pals ordered their food, and could not remember what they ordered. He threw around the pans and lids, causing a huge ruckus. He tried to act cool by flipping the spatula around, but failed miserably when he dropped it. If this man is not fired I will NEVER, and I mean NEVER come back, and I will tell all my pals not to come either. This establishment is so far out of the way to get to and I'm wasting my time and money to be disrespected while I am here. Whoever his parents are, you did not raise him right. He is everything that i would not want as an employee. If i was the manager, i would burn this place to the ground and start fresh. Very disappointed. Returned to this poorly ran, mediocre establishment tonight because my pals wanted it again. Luckily, there is a pancheros across the way. The employee in question was working again tonight, and while he had a better attitude than last time, he still put mushrooms in my pals bowl when he asked for none. The queso had been sitting so long it had a film over it and the server didn't even bother mixing it up. That said, the staff was really nice and got through the line quickly. Very good fries and friendly service but I can't say much that is good about their signature cheese steak sandwich. Although the meat was good, it had a slight off-taste and the peppers and onions were overcooked. The sandwich was also overpriced. Worst was the roll used. It was not the crusty toasted bread you might be used to if you lived on the east coast but the soft tasteless hoagie that falls apart in your hands. I hate to think what the sandwich would have been like if I had gotten it as a take-out and not eaten it in store. The Pepper Jax burrito was good though tasteless, and better ones can be had elsewhere in town and at a lower price. And lastly, if you value your hearing, you should avoid staying too long in the restaurant. I t was the noisiest and loudest establishment I have been in for a long time with the sound system turned up to ear damaging range. I pity the poor staff. The only reason I am going to give this two stars is because the burrito I purchased tasted okay. The reason this Pepper-Jax only gets two stars was because of the absolutely embarrassing service. I stood at the counter waiting to order for 5 minutes before an employee walked out from the back. Nonchalantly he said, "What do you want?" I said I wanted a burrito and he asked me three times if I wanted any vegetables on it. Eventually we got through the condiments and my burrito was finished. He told me my total, I paid him, and he looked up and asked "What do you want?" for a second time. I swear this guy was high on something.
