I"m a pepper. I see a few reviews from other guys and gals that have come here. Well, he's a pepper, she's a pepper, we're a pepper. Wouldn't you like to be a pepper too? Is that too corny? Bonus point if you know what the above reference is to. I tried it. It's A-OK. Cafeteria style sit down restaurant. Order up front from a board menu, pay, then sit down. The food comes to you on a sizzling hotplate to cook your food. Overall impressions, not bad at all. I had the hamburger steak with egg. Pretty good tasting. Can't vouch for the other food at my table, but I did enjoy what I had. Would I come here again? Likely

The "fast-steak" restaurant franchise finally arrived to Vancouver early this year. If you want a healthier meal than McDonald's or KFC, this is good try Pepper Lunch! It would be better quality fast food restaurant for you.. It located on No. 3 Road & Westminster Hwy (London Plaza Mall). You need to order your meal at the cashier, get a number and they severed you in designated table to server you the meal. You'll find your favorite meal on a hot sizzling plate with rice and beef in voilà! I ordered 8oz ribeye steak $29.95 for lunch. The steak quality was good or better than a lot HK style café if compared with the price. The staffs were freidnly and a bit expenseive to pay $30 for steak fast food at Richmond.

Hubby and i came here for a late dinner one night. We ordered the wagyu beef pepper fried rice with egg which was really good! We got the split dumplings (half chicken half pork) the skin was nice a crispy. Hubby got a small steak to try. This restaurant is very similar to Ikinari Steak in nyc! The food was good and pretty affordable priced.

As one of the reviewers said, there aren't too many vegetarian options available. I came in recently for the second time with friends. I ordered the mushroom and tofu with rice. I don't think it was worth almost $10 for what I got. I think it'd be better if I cooked this myself at home. They may need a good ventilation system as there is a strong food smell right when you walk in and it'll stay on your clothes till wash.

I love Pepper Lunch, it has lots of options for your hot plate meal and delicious sauces you can splurge onto it. I had a chance to revisit this place as it was on my way to the bank. How I'll be hooked onto this for the rest of my Richmond trips. I ordered the beef pepper rice, which I doused a liberal amount of sauces before mixing it all together. I like how I can control how my meal is, managing how crispy my rice is and how flavorful it will be. I came around 3pm so it wasn't busy at all. If you're a fan of hot plates, come give this a try. I was able to leave with a clean plate and a full stomach.

This is a great and convenient place to pop in for a quick lunch or dinner! You order at the counter and just wait for your food, and grab a spot to sit. Food was delicious and affordable. The manager walked over to us to make sure we were enjoying our meals... a service that I really appreciated. I'll be going back for sure.

We went twice as the first time we went was crazy hectic and grand opening so we thought we'd give them the benefit of the doubt.. FIRST VISIT: Seen a line outside the door and people were crammed like sardines in a can. Everyone was confused but thank gawd the girls in front of us told us pass everyone in the line and get our names written down. So after 35 min wait, we were called and placed our order and paid first.. I guess no Dine and Dash?? Ordered beef pepper rice $8.95 and $1.50 extra for egg and $1.50 for mashed potatoes. My bf ordered extra beef pepper rice with additional egg and purchased the combo which was $2.00 extra that comes with bland miso soup and soda with 1 refill ONLY. DO NOT order the mashed potatoes.. Waste of $1.50. Was fun experience cause was new style but after we left, we were still hungry!!! SECOND VISIT: BF was craving fried rice and it was almost week and half since grand opening so we thought lets go for lunch. This time I got Pepper beef hamburger steak and he got extra beef pepper rice. Ordered extra egg $1.50 x 2 and he got a drink $2. Noticed after 1.5 weeks the combo price has increased to $2.75. So we skipped it. Basically came out to $29 including tip. Once again cool concept but we've decided that for the amount we paid, we could of gotten our own ingredients and made crazy ass fried rice for cheaper. Service is 3/5 Food 3.5/5 Cleanliness 3.5/5 Parking 1/5 WARZONE!!! We ended up hungrier than ever so we went to beard papas and got some cream puffs.. If we're in area we might stop by but other than that for the price, amount and quality, rather go elsewhere in Richmond as there so many cheaper eating establishments!

It's been awhile since I've been back to this location. The original Pepper Lunch that started it all in Canada. They've come a long ways since their introduction into this country. A much more extensive menu featuring more cuts of meats and more vegetarian options. Of course you still have to remember that the food here all has to have a certain theme. That is the sizzling hot plate and the quick and efficient serving from ordering to table service. It has to be fast. Tonight I had the mushroom burger made for. Shimeji mushrooms. It was tasty. A bit in the thin side, but tasted good nonetheless. I do think if it was a bit thicker it would be juicier and more presentable. For a vegetarian option, I'm glad that this is available. They also have Kimchi that they make in-house. Tangy, slightly spicy and some some vinegary notes I could taste. It was like a fresh Kimchi. Good to go with any beef pairings. I like the fact that they have this side dish available now. Why not add a bit of spice to your Pepper Lunch! Besides it also a good probiotic for your digestion and it's vegetarian too. If you want seafood, there is the Hokkaido Scallops with Pasta. If you want the scallops but don't want the pasta but want rice instead, just ask to change up the carbs. Remember you can always change things up here by adding other sides. Add extra bean sprouts or Kimchi or a fried egg. Pepper Lunch can accommodate you.

Curry pork pepper rice. Cooks as you mix it!

Pepper lunch is absolutely delicious! I don't see many of these in the U.S., and the last time I ate here was in Taiwan, so I'm glad I could revisit this place. Their food is really unique in that it comes out on this hot cast iron skillet, and the food cooks at the table. It's suuuuuper satisfying to hear the sizzling of the skillet, and it smells sooo good. They also offer add-ons like egg, cheese, corn, and kimchi (I hear the egg + cheese combo is really popular). I got the curry pork pepper rice with no add-ons. The rice is so delicious after it's seasoned with pepper and is slightly charred from the skillet, and the corn pairs wonderfully with the rice and the meat. The curry was really good and added some great flavor to the pork. It can get a little greasy, but it's so worth it. Service here is also really fast, and the restaurant itself is very clean and family friendly. The staff were really nice and friendly, and welcomed us as we came in. I wish I could find one of these back home!

Clean and roomy place, quick service, good meat, great sauces. I had the spicy pork pepper rice; would definitely come back to try another next time!

My date and I stopped by here for dinner. My date ordered the Wagyu beef pepper rice ($14.95) and I ordered the curry beef pepper rice ($10.95). We made our food a combo for an extra $2.75 each for a drink and miso soup. Food arrived fairly quickly. There is a paper sleeve around the plate with instructions. Drinks had free refills. The miso soup was piping hot. The food was alright. It tasted decent but not amazing. The Wagyu is tender but I have also eaten top grade Wagyu steak and compared to that, I would pay the extra money on the steak. I found the portion was on the smaller side for the amount of meat we get relative to price. The rice is the filling part with the corn. Service was good. Staff were doing rounds refilling drinks and checking up on staff. I think it is good to try once or stop by on the days when there are specials.

Pepper beef lunch, extra beef.

Sizzle sizzle sizzle!! The Pepper Lunch chain has finally arrived in Canada. With its first location in Canada in Richmond, this is sure going to be a popular spot. Keep in mind that parking within the London Drugs plaza may be a bit difficult. The shop isn't too big, with seating for around 40 people. We came on a Monday around lunchtime, and it was almost at capacity. You order up front, which can be quite intimidating because they have a lot of different choices and combinations, and sometimes it's hard to read from just a screen on the wall. Being a first timer, I decided to have their signature Beef Pepper Rice, with extra beef. You have the option of making it a combo for an extra $1.50 with miso soup and a drink. We were then given a number which corresponds to a pre-designated table. Water is served at your table. Within minutes, our food arrived. I noticed that mine only had 8 slices of beef, and had to wonder if it was really 'extra' beef. When I inquired, they did indeed say that it was a regular sized one and exchanged a extra beef one for me. 2 sauces are also available, a honey based sauce, or a garlic soy sauce. I prefer the honey sauce. Then comes the 'fun' part, where you mix everything together. The end result is a tasty mix of beef, pepper, corn and green onions within grains of rice. I like that the hot plate kept the whole dish hot, and allowed some of the rice to be a bit crispy. At $11, my lunch was filling and tasty. There's some other items that I would like to try, such as their hamburger patty. PS. You will end up smelling like your lunch afterwards.

When you enter, this is the selection, choose wisely!

First off, the bread isn't as good as usual. It was fine but nothing great and barely Luke warm. We always get asked if we want more bread but not on our visit here - a first. Our server was so busy and there was no supporting staff except to deliver the food from the kitchen. We didn't get asked if we wanted more bread, took 20 minutes to get our order in, our calamari appetizer never arrived and just our mains but by the time we could find our server we were halfway through our mains despite that I am a slow eater. The server did apologize and said he would bring the calamari and take it off the bill, which was nice. Calamari came in 10 minutes but portion looked small. When the server came by next he mentioned that it came quickly because he stole the order from another table - what?!? Am glad the calamari was free because it didn't taste great and portion was small. My boyfriend wasn't asked if he wanted another beer until we were at the end of the meal and when I asked for a water refill it took another 10 minutes. It took us over 2 hours to eat and not because I was slow eater but due to the slow service. We were looking forward to our Billy Miner pie but the server never mentioned it and as it took so long to find him we gave up on dessert and opted to go for dessert somewhere else. This must be a franchise location and not sure why it's so busy as service and food easily the worst Keg location I've ever been to and I have to most locations in the Lower Mainland plus Kelowna. Will definitely stick to the Vancouver and Burnaby locations from here on out. The bigger disappointment was that I wrote to the Keg to provide feedback and never heard back. Sad to see one of the best chain restaurants to go downhill.

We emailed the restaurant after to discuss the experience and had no response. We ordered appies and drinks to start. The Caesar salad is amazing and highly recommend. The crab cakes and calamari were also delicious. 2 people got prime rib, one steak, and one filet mignon. Plus a bunch of sides, like the brussels, Mac and cheese, and broccoli gratin. The broccoli gratin was dried burnt broccoli with a sprinkle of parm. The Mac and cheese was bland. The food came out except for 1 prime rib. After 10 minutes, the server came to apologize and inform us that they were out of prime rib. He offered the prime rib sandwich on rush, which we appreciated. It came out quickly enough but was not good. There was too much fat to meat ration. We would have sent back a few things but the table beside us sent back their food multiple times and we were ready to go. Not sure what happened but it was an off day. I would not recommend this location!

However, I know why this restaurant continues to be booked and busy. I have been various times before but this was the first time in the last few years. I would describe this restaurant as western fine dining for a Chinese palate. You'll find some classic dishes but less heavy on the salt and grease, perfect for myself and the party I was dining with. I ordered the 5 course meal which was a fantastic deal for $65. The bread service at the start is so warm and yummy - don't skip out on it! The pesto sauce tiger prawns weren't overly pesto forward and had a strong presence of garlic - perfect for me! I loved the chowder as I especially like corn. The portion was also perfect considering I had many courses coming afterwards. Next, came the crab cake, which was generously filled with crab and paired with delicious house made butter. For each dish, I found the garnishes pleasing as well (especially the strawberry which was so sweet and ripe!). I think the best deal of the night was the steak. It was not too salty and cooked perfectly to a medium-rare. I managed to have leftovers as well since the portions were overwhelmingly good. Finally, the star of the night was definitely the chocolate soufflé for me. I loved the rich bitterness of the chocolate paired with ice cream on the side. I don't think this place is the best representation for fine dining. After all, they do not serve any alcohol. However, I think it is a great deal and accommodating to my taste buds. If I do not wish to drive out for fancy food, I know I can rely on the food at Shoestring café. As it is a family run business, there is only one person managing the front and I think they do a pretty good job at juggling all the duties of a host, server, and table busser! I would love to return soon.

Steamed mussels and soufflé were so addictive and heavenly. The mussels were savoury and buttery and the soufflé was airy with the perfect amount of sweetness. They were very good! Hits and misses for the mains. While the pasta and sauce were great, we wish the seafood were panfried or something to give it a bit more texture. The duck was well done but not tough (we generally like medium rare) though we were confused by why the skin was served down as crispy skin is always a plus for duck breasts. I'm not a fan of mashed potatoes but theirs was not overly heavy and buttery, which I really appreciated and enjoyed. This reminds me of Asian western food but they were tasty and the ambience was cozy - a local neighbourhood spot.

We waited for a few minutes for someone to notice we were there, and were immediately seated. It's a nice looking place - very classic whites, and feels like a fine dining restaurant. We decided to try the following: - Beef Carpaccio: Good. Maybe a bit light on the meat, as it was buried by the arugula and pickled shallots, so seemed unbalanced, but overall tasted great - Seafood Linguini: Mixed. Linguini was good. Scallops were really good and tender. Mussels were tiny. Red snapper was tough and dry. As a dish, it was OK, but could be better. Seafood is seasonal, so I'd think they would be better off rotating what seafood is used. - LuLu Island: OK. Same issue as the linguine. Prawns were fine. Mussels tiny. Red snapper wasn't enjoyable. Broth had flavour, but didn't come out very hot. Service was pleasant but slow. I only saw one server and one busser, so not enough staff to handle 6 or 7 tables they had. To be honest - I am bit torn writing this review after going with my best friend for a celebration…read more I am not a big fan of the sales tactic of making a table order drinks - when they seat you they give you the drink menu and say "your food menu will come soon". The problem is ... we were then sitting awkwardly at our table for about 8-13 minutes before we were then given the food menu. We did note that tactic was used for all tables as that must be their servicing house rules and not server specific. While we did order drinks we enjoy them ~with~ our food, they also took awhile to come. You check in at the front and there is a small dining section than mirrored hallway walk to the bigger dining section where you can see the kitchen. I found the plates cheap looking in nature. It didn't match the aesthetic and prestige that this restaurant is trying to uphold. Feels very disconnected in nature. On to the dishes/drinks ordered: Warm bread: expensive at $9. Passable but I imagine people order this while drinking so an easy order for the table. Pork belly: this is S W E E T. While the menu noted it is made with a black cherry gastrique we underestimated how thick and sweet this would be (we had both had pork chop/duck entrees that had or featured a cherry demi glace). It covered the entirety of the tender pork belly and made it unappetizing to us both because of the dessert heavy flavouring was so overpowering. It felt like it was missing the acid/vinegar component to offset the sweetness. When our server checked in with us we were honest with our feedback and he then got the house manager involved and was able to "switch" out the appetizer. They both had recommended the risotto so we went with that in replacement. Risotto: good flavour but even for an appetizer I think it is alarmingly small for the price point. I think the risotto could be offered with a protein and be successful as its own spot for an entree. Roasted beef Wellington (comes with 2 sides glazed root vegetables and potato puree) - this was the main reason and excitement drawing us to this restaurant. It was cooked amazingly. Beautifully tender. Vegetables were just roasted carrots - they were fine but we thought there'd be more of a variety. Potato puree - also fine. Mac & cheese: forgettable. Not sure why there were green peppers in it. Brussel sprouts: good addition. Sticky toffee pudding: great for its sweetness. If I ordered again I would ask for the sauce on the side. Notes from Gordon: tasted very floral and perfume like. I found the presentation a bit too "casual" for $20 A diving bell: spicier than we had thought but it was fine. There were a lot of serves/bussers around and we could tell the restaurant was not particularly busy and because we were seated right beside the kitchen it just felt awkward being around groups of talking staff. This was especially amplified when we had empty plates/drinks to be removed and water glasses that could use refilling but neither were being tended to. One busser served us from the right side moving our lamp out of the way, with her thumb in the veggie bowl and when famously should be done by the left and because we were sitting the closest to the kitchen it felt lazy to serve across us and move the lamp than to come on the "freer" side of the table. Bussers were also not ... pleasant or welcoming? So while we had good service from our server and house server it felt uneven when others were delivering all the dishes monotonously. This did not hit the mark for us at a $325~ dining experience. It left us underwhelmed.
