Amazing hole in the wall that gives the most authentic japanese steak/hamburg steak experience that I have seen outside of Japan! The self-serve rice, soup, salad station really makes you feel like you are in Japan and the steaks are cooked to perfection!

I saw several people were talking about this restaurant and I was curious to try it so I went to this restaurant for lunch. The interior decorations were nicely arranged in Japanese style. The server arranged the table quickly and got my meal order without a long wait. There were many choices in the menu and I chose the hamburg on rice set lunch. It came with salad, an appetitzer and drink. I picked tofu salad and hot coffee. Besides the set, there was a self-serve area for unlimited miso soup, curry and rice. The taste was authentic especially the salad sauce tasted very nice. I refilled some more rice with curry and that was satisfying. The price was reasonable and I recommend this place in Richmond.

All delicious, homey and the best way to represent Japanese Western fusion! The place itself is quite small and only seats when your entire party is there. The service is friendly and genuine. Although they have a "time limit" for your party, you don't feel rushed and can enjoy a delicious meal here!

Let me be blunt: after years of dining across Vancouver, this was not just the worst meal I've had…read moresince moving here--it was a downright insult to my palate, my patience, and my basic human dignity. It started the moment we were seated. Not two minutes in, a surly elderly woman--who I can only describe as the restaurant's self-appointed warden--barked at us to get up and move tables like we were misbehaving schoolchildren. No apology, no explanation. Just pure, unvarnished hostility. We complied, stunned, but the humiliation was only the appetizer. Then came the food, which somehow managed to be even more offensive than the service. Potato croquette (1/5): A greasy, dense brick of despair. The outer shell was so tough and leathery I legitimately struggled to saw through it with my knife. Chewing it was a workout I didn't sign up for. I forced down a quarter before giving up; my friend described it as "eating fried shoe leather," and she wasn't exaggerating. Pork katsu: Dry, stringy, and utterly devoid of juiciness. For a dish that should be crispy and tender, this was a sad, tough slab of over-fried gristle. The pasta on the side was the only redeeming bite on the entire table--and that's faint praise when the star of the plate is a complete failure. Curry steak: Absolutely forgettable. Bland, watery, and uninspired--the kind of dish you'd expect from a frozen TV dinner, not a restaurant that dares to charge real money. But here's where it goes from disappointing to outright repulsive. As I walked to the register to pay--already fuming--that same elderly harpy screamed at me to stand outside. Not asked. Yelled. In front of other diners. As if I were a stray dog contaminating her precious floor. I am a remarkably patient person. I've swallowed bad meals and rude servers without a word. But this wasn't rudeness--this was targeted, xenophobic aggression. I don't throw the word "racist" around lightly, but her vitriol was aimed squarely at us based on nothing but our faces. There is no other explanation for such disproportionate, venomous treatment. Let me be crystal clear: I will never--never--set foot in this establishment again. Not for free food, not if I were starving. The food is mediocre at best and repulsive at worst, but the service is outright abusive. Vancouver has too many incredible restaurants to waste a single dollar on a place that serves tough, tasteless garbage with a side of bigotry. Do yourself a favor: save your money, save your self-respect, and eat literally anywhere else. This place doesn't deserve your business--or your presence.

The staffs/owner were very friendly and made great recommendations. Had the hamachi carpaccio, so refreshing and appetizing. The homemade ponzu (lemony) sauce has a nice finish with thin sliced onions and veggies. The Engawa Arburi nigiri was recommended, and it was phenomenal. It is the 'fin edge' of flounder. Super delicate, with seared (arburi) flavor and melts in your mouth. Yum! The other highlight was the Wagyu beef cubes severed on stick. Two skewers 4 cubes each. The Wagyu was perfectly cooked. It melts in your mouth with every bite. We also enjoyed the 7 piece Omakase sushi set. The fish was very fresh and satiating. Love the lotus root chips garnishing. We loved everything we had but would likely skip the Omakase appetizer Platter. Perhaps we were spoiled by the hamachi carpaccio appetizer. We still enjoyed it but For the same price, we would prefer the sushi set. It had 9 small plates in a beautiful serving box including- tiny sashimi cube of salmon, tuna, tamago, and my fav is the komochi nishin (herring fillets ("Nishin") layered over a base of crunchy capelin roe), also included in the tiny plates of apps were, chicken karaage, baby taco, sliced taco, taco in red sauce, and seaweed salad. We look forward to be back!!!!!

Unfortunately, things seem to have gone down hill a bit with lower quality fish (almost sinewy) and rolls that fall apart. I would almost liken quality to comparable with Sushi Garden or Samurai Sushi, and compared to how busy and bustling it had been in the past, there was only one table dining in during the peak lunch hour. Service was lackluster, with minimal eye contact and rude demeanor (the staff picked up the phone and took an order halfway through a sentence. It's clear they do a lot of takeout, which is always a good sign. The decor is nothing fancy--just a simple, basic restaurant--but honestly, it doesn't matter once the food arrives. Service was immediate and friendly, and our food came out quickly. We ordered the Tokyo Sunrise roll, two tuna avocado hand rolls, and avocado tempura (we had to try it--and we're so glad we did!). Everything was incredibly fresh, and the flavors were amazing. The hand rolls practically melted in our mouths! Such a delicious experience--we'll definitely be back!

Our server was fantastic. We didn't get her name, but she's from Ontario. She's been there almost a year. She's very professional, but cheery, warm and friendly. We love how the hand rolls are served by the chefs who prepare them and done at well unhurried pace---always keeping a watchful eye on the guest. The restaurant is really a big bar which makes sense in this kind of experience. The design is sleek, modern with an eye catching ceiling design.
