When the server came by next he mentioned that it came quickly because he stole the order from another table - what?!? My boyfriend wasn't asked if he wanted another beer until we were at the end of the meal and when I asked for a water refill it took another 10 minutes. It took us over 2 hours to eat and not because I was slow eater but due to the slow service. We were looking forward to our Billy Miner pie but the server never mentioned it and as it took so long to find him we gave up on dessert and opted to go for dessert somewhere else. This must be a franchise location and not sure why it's so busy as service and food easily the worst Keg location I've ever been to and I have to most locations in the Lower Mainland plus Kelowna. However, I know why this restaurant continues to be booked and busy. I have been various times before but this was the first time in the last few years. I would describe this restaurant as western fine dining for a Chinese palate. The bread service at the start is so warm and yummy - don't skip out on it! The pesto sauce tiger prawns weren't overly pesto forward and had a strong presence of garlic - perfect for me! I loved the chowder as I especially like corn. The portion was also perfect considering I had many courses coming afterwards. Next, came the crab cake, which was generously filled with crab and paired with delicious house made butter. For each dish, I found the garnishes pleasing as well (especially the strawberry which was so sweet and ripe!). I think the best deal of the night was the steak. It was not too salty and cooked perfectly to a medium-rare. I managed to have leftovers as well since the portions were overwhelmingly good. Finally, the star of the night was definitely the chocolate soufflé for me. I loved the rich bitterness of the chocolate paired with ice cream on the side. I don't think this place is the best representation for fine dining. After all, they do not serve any alcohol. However, I think it is a great deal and accommodating to my taste buds. We found it odd as reservations are not allowed during brunch and happy hour until 5pm. We were there shortly after 3pm. She then brought us menus, but only cared to bring two, when she knows there are four of us. Not a word, and just walked away. I turned towards her but she was already walking away. By this time, I didn't bother anymore. I just walked over myself and grabbed the menu. Then she didn't serve us anymore. Another Asian young man then came with the water bottle. A bit more eye contact this (yay) but still no smile. Just asked us what to drink. Took order and stepped away. We then ordered our dishes, and the food came promptly, except for the flat bread, which came more towards the end when other items are nearly finished. B also got the draft madri and 5 oz Burrowing Owl Syrah 2021. The wine was recommended by our server and it pared well with the beef wellington. The warm bread was very soft but it was quite oily. The butter that came with the bread was delicious. The beef wellington was delicious. The beef tenderloin was super tender and soft. The puff pastry was cooked well. It came with a red wine demi and that was perfect for the beef wellington. We got two complimentary gougere with our meal. That was tasty but nothing too special. The root vegetables were carrots and they were tasty and again nothing too special. The potatoe puree was tasty. The blistering shishito peppers were something that we never had before or seen served at other restaurants. The sauce at the bottom of the pepper was super delicious. The peppers were interesting. 1 out of 100 of the peppers could be spicy. I realized the longer the pepper the higher the chance of it being spicy. Nonetheless that was tasty. Because we were there to celebrate, we were given a free dessert at the end. We got the Sticky Toffee pudding. That was nothing special but we were told that is Gordon Ramsay's grandma recipe. I guess the plating also played into it.

The innovative dish gained its popularity in Japan around 2015-2016 and can now be found in various spots in our city. I tried their Gyukatsu set and charcoaled fried chicken. Mr. Black's rendition of Gyukatsu is quite delectable, but on the pricier side and very small portions for what you're paying for. Be prepared to spend over $30 if you're looking to fill your stomach.
