The kimchi soup here is the best. They put cut up rice cake in it. The bonchon is also always really good. Love that they have bells at the table for when you need something or to get the check. This is attached to the market as well which has really good selections for a small grocery. read more

Love this place! The food is so good and addicting. It taste like someone's Korean's mom is cooking. It's a small hole in the wall but it's clean and quiet. The market has everything you can imagine. Kimchi in big glass jars, tons of ramen, various noodles, candies for cheap. Needless to say I really love coming here. I had the soondubu (on the menu as seafood soft tofu soup) and it was OUTSTANDING - possibly the best I've ever had. The price was reasonable, it came with a nice assortment of banchan (especially for that price), and it was ready fast. My family and I often come to Pepero for dinner, and have always enjoyed the dishes, such as the tteokbokki and jajangmyeon. We've been coming to this restaurant for some time, since they are the only local Korean restaurant that I know of. I decided to write this review on this restaurant due to my recent experiences with this place as it seems to be going downhill in regards to their customer service. My family and I had gone to chow down some good Korean food for dinner a couple of weeks ago, and typically we were seated to a table by a younger gentleman a while back. However, there was a waitress who had seated us, and please note that she may have been a new staff member since she had recently started waitressing a couple of months ago and we have been seeing her every time we come in. Fast forwarding, my family and I all received our food at the same time, and typically my dad is known to be a fast-eater in my family so he was the first one to be done with his meal, while my mom, sister and I were still ACTIVELY eating. The waitress had the audacity of automatically bringing my table our bill before majority of the people at my table was done with their food! Please note that it was not a busy weekday night, and there was no one that I noticed waiting to be seated outside or waiting for their food to arrive at their table. We had not asked for the bill yet, and the waitress had simply slid the billing tray onto our table towards my dad, which sent our entire family thinking she was trying to rush us out as 3 of the 4 people at our table were still eating - only like halfway done w/ our meal! I have never been to a restaurant where the server would give you the bill in the middle of your meal - usually they give it to us at the end of it! My dad was very upset at the waitress, but didn't say anything. We just paid our meal and left, and from then on, my family has yet to return to the restaurant. Recently today, I decided to give the restaurant another chance to redeem themselves by coming in and placing a to-go order while I shopped a bit around the grocery area. As I walked in, I was met by the same waitress we had from our last visit. Honestly, she was a bit rude b/c when she was speaking to my sister and I, and acted like she was too busy to speak to us while she was walking to the kitchen, and we just informed her that we wanted to place a to-go order. In response, she just told another lady (probably the owner) in their own language to take our order. The other lady who was extremely kind, took and gave us our order. During our wait, she was also able to help correct the order she placed for us & promptly fix it with sincereness. To be honest, I was a bit upset during the time with the 30 minute wait for my order, as well as the extra 10 minutes to get our order fix - but I am happy to have my food in the end. Overall, I gave 3 stars b/c the food is great. The lack of 2 stars was due to the customer service, as well as the wait time for my food today. Initially, I was going to give them 2 stars overall mainly due to the waitress's attitude as if she is only working b/c she has to, and my family and I just felt unwelcomed there. However, I decided to add the additional star b/c of the kind lady (owner?) promptly trying to fix my to-go order. I would recommend this place for the food, but it'll probably be better if you place a carry-out order beforehand. I most likely will not be returning to this restaurant, instead will be going to a farther restaurant up in Mint Hill. read more

I am so glad my boyfriend found this place! The food and ambiance was extremely authentic, after having visited South Korea just a few months before my visit here. The sides were wonderful and the staff was happy to refill them. Everything was satisfactory, and our service was pleasant. I will say the seafood pancake was too much flour and too skimpy with the seafood and I feel like the food and market attached to the restaurant could be a little cheaper, but hey if this is the most authentic Korean place in Charlotte I get it. When I ordered what I believe to be called "Dol sot bi bim bap " but without the pork.They said that they would give me a tofu with it(which they did,it was put into a different container),but the main container did in fact contain beef,which was quite disappointing because I have many times stated that I absolutely did not want meat with my meal.But it was a nice experience there. read more

This is the only authentic Korean food place in Charlotte at least that I know of. The building is a bit sketch but inside it's well lit and your typical Asian grocery store. They sell Korean grocery in the front and in the back there's a small place to order and eat food. The menu has some of the basic Korean food such as bulgogi, Jajangmyeon, kimchi jii gae and etc. they include complementary side dishes when you order. The food was good and prices were decent. I wouldn't say it was the best Korean food I've ever had nor the worst. This place satisfies my cravings for Korean food when I can't drive down to ATL. The grocery in the front was cute. Solid 5 stars for being one of the only Korean restaurants in the Queen City and having good food. When you walk in the dining area is straight ahead or to your right, the grocery store is on your left. The ambiance is not "dress to impress," but rather enjoy a mom-and-pops feel. Seat yourself and press the little button on your table for service. The staff are nice and efficient. The menu is extensive. My fav Korean restaurant in Charlotte, NC! Def your definition of a hole in the wall, but the food was always amazing and the service was exceptional the last time I visited with my gf's! I'm not super adventurous on food, so I usually stick to what I know, we ordered the seafood pancake, bulgogi, seafood tofu soup, and the squid stir fried was amazing! And of course, my top reason why I eat Korean food..the side dishes...never disappoint! And they also have a small Korean grocery...technically, the restaurant is in the corner of the grocery store...so, after you're done inhaling your food, you could just step right out and wrap grocery for more Korean dinner for the week and of course one of their refreshing popsicles to close the deal! read more

One of my first times having Korean food. The restaurant is tucked away inside a Korean Grocery store - and while it isn't much to look at, the food was delicious. We were seated quickly and promptly greater by the server.... there appeared to be only the one - but she had the place under complete control. I ordered the Pork Bulgogi. I paid my bill and left some extra for tip (obviously not as much as I normally do due to lack of service). As we're walking to the car, she comes running after us saying that we didn't tip her enough and needed to give her more. I have never been to a restaurant that chases you down for MORE tip. My boyfriend and I went to Pepero on New Years because we both were craving Korean food and he hasn't been there so I thought why not? I've been there a few times in the past and the food was alright, nothing amazing nor horrible either. We were seated quickly, there was 3 tables occupied. There were two servers, the guy took the table to our left, the girl took the front table and ours. Maybe 15 minutes later, the table to our left got their food first. 2 big group of people came in during that time and got seated quickly and got their orders in too. About another 30 minutes went by, one of the big group got their food. Another 10 minutes after that, the second big group got theirs. By that time, one hour has past and neither the front table or us have got our food BUT the two big group who came 15 minutes after us got theirs. I understand the 2 big groups may bring in more money but that is not how you treat your customers! I heard the front tables order and they didn't order a lot of food, neither did we. I was patient enough to wait one hour and my food was still not on the way so we left. I will NOT be coming back and will NOT recommend this place to anyone because service is TERRIBLE!!! read more

What can you say about PePeRo that has not already been said, great food in a dive Korean grocery store. We drive 30 minutes for our Korean Food fix and never leave disappointed and always stuffed! Love the rice cakes and the spicy pork with vegetable these are our go to dishes. The soup dishes are great as well you just need to experiment here as the menu is sensory overload. Moved to Charlotte at the end of last month, I'm trying to find all my new favorites. Welll I'll give this restaurant 3 stars. Visited this establishment 2 times before writing just in case I missed something/misinterpreted it. Nope! The food is the one reason I'm giving it 2 stars. The grocery store attached is the other reason. First visit the waitress was not nice to me and my guests, we felt rushed. She kept saying lunch is over at 4pm...it was only 230. She later apologized and said that my kids were pretty. Second visit, same waitress. At first she said welcome back, gave us our menu, our drinks, then said to ring the bell when we're ready. We rang the bell for 10 minutes and kept getting ignored. Truly embarrassing. Finally a different waitress came and took our order. Our food came out, was decent. Never was checked on, had to ask for our check. So needless to say, we will not be coming back. I've had better, tastier Korean food. The meals were even worse than the prepackaged meal kits sold at the supermarket. The biggest reason I go to a Korean restaurant is because of the side dishes. We've been here a few times, but our last visit was shocking. We had Korean-style Jjajangmyeon, Jjamppong Sweet and Sour Pork. There was no explanation from the server that various side dishes were not served. We ordered three main dishes from two people, but the only side dishes were kimchi and pickled radish. I asked the server why there were no side dishes, but she said that there were no side dishes for these dishes. There was no apology or any other updates to apologize, just the rules of the store. If I had explained it in advance, I would have ordered a different menu with various side dishes. There was no meat in the jajangmyeon, and it tasted like old chunjang. The sweet and sour pork was unbelievable for the price. The fries were not fried again, and meat and flour were separated. Jjamppong had less seafood and other vegetables. read more
