Ever since I tried their Katsu, I've been thinking about this place whenever my cravings hit... On my third time here, I ordered their Chicken Katsu Bento again (which is actually a tray), with a choice of sides...Popcorn Shrimp! This tray also came with Tempura varieties, Rice, Soup and Salad. All absolutely delish! I've always raved about Musashi's Katsu...but I think they might have a competitor here. The Katsu here is SO fresh, crispy...and incredibly generous as well. Possibly the best Katsu places in Charlotte! I also like their renovations...as the place looks quite chic, while cozy at the same time. Service is seamless as well. I realize it's been a few years since I updated this. Since my initial exuberance about this place, I have tried a couple of other sushi places in town. This remains by far and away the best. Always fresh, always delicious, always courteous. It remains my favorite by a longshot, and I feel lucky to live so close by. The owner takes genuine pride in his work and values his team. I often see the staff gather for a late lunch when they close between lunch and dinner. I sometimes tend to get there on the later side for lunch and they never rush me out. Enjoyed my experience. Came on a Fri night just after 7PM (by myself) and they were full and taking names. Short 15 min wait and I got seated at the bar. Beer menu was typical Asian offerings - opportunity for them to have some local IPA's. As a red blooded American I like MORE and when I'm done more and Somi Sushi don't disappoint. Everything is 10/10 but the home made hot sauce is 50/10 lol. It's garlic and red peppers and so good I base my entree around it. Get here early cause it fills up fast. The lunch combo is a great deal for this side of town. When I first started coming here last August it had a little more to it though. This place was more of a 4.5-5 star experience then. Recently they've been cutting off lunch service at 2 instead of 2:30 which is also kind of a pain with my work schedule. The sushi is really good! It's a little pricey for me in the evenings, but not out of line for this side of town. It's just the lunch special is such a great deal. Literally no one should be going to Red Bowl across the street for sushi lunch IMO. Getting a specialty roll for $2 more is the way I normally do it. They have a great good ole trusty rainbow roll. They have some other unique ones, just peruse through the menu to get a description. You get a soup AND a salad, unlike a lot of sushi places. I think I used to get some seaweed salad and maybe octopus as well, but I don't think that is part of the deal anymore. I also always take the 2 pieces of nigiri over the 2 spring rolls, but the spring rolls are worthy if you are feeling up to it. I'll be back again and again, probably not on Tuesdays as the Mexican spot a few doors down has amazing specials that day. Me and my grandpa had a tradition for years that every Thursday after soccer practice we'd get Sushi, specifically the Somi Roll. The service and people were so nice they always knew we were coming every Thursday and they always knew we'd get the Somi Roll. I'm so glad the Yelp Charlotte Top 100 list pointed us to this awesome sushi place. They're doing curbside pickup and the person that brought it out to my car was wearing a mask too. We got 4 rolls: 007, Plantation, Somi, and Salmon Lover. All of them were very good. The Somi was my favorite followed closely by the Plantation. I usually don't like cream cheese in my rolls, but it didn't overpower the flavor of the Somi Roll. Their spicy tuna actually has a good kick to it that I really enjoyed. They love spicy tuna here haha - the three rolls we got were all different yet none stood out and were actually kind of bland - the takoyaki could've had more octopus It was pretty standard for a suburban strip mall sushi joint, not a place I'd go out of my way for. We accidentally stumbled to this little gem and are so glad we gave it a chance. It's a small and quaint family-owned restaurant. We were impressed with the variety rolls they had to offer and the portions of the food. The sushi was fresh and delicious. The bento box portions were humongous and enough to feed 2-3 people. Of course, each member of my tribe thought they can finish their own portion and didn't. The waitstaff was very friendly and took the time to answer any questions.
