The best experience the food was amazing. The server was also amazing. The ambience was perfect. It was great. I went with my daughter. She loved it and we're definitely gonna come again and it was so amazing that we gotta leave a five star review. Highly recommend read more

Found this place on Yelp when trying to find somewhere for sushi and this place did not disappoint! We were able to sit right away as a party of two, and our server was super nice and attentive. The drinks are also reasonably priced. We ordered the gyoza to start and they were nice and crunchy. We both ordered a specialty roll and basic roll and enjoyed them all. I definitely want to come back and try the ramen next! read more

Somi Sushi - Sweet Potato Roll - Japanese Near Me - Matthews, North Carolina

Ever since I tried their Katsu, I've been thinking about this place whenever my cravings hit... On my third time here, I ordered their Chicken Katsu Bento again (which is actually a tray), with a choice of sides...Popcorn Shrimp! This tray also came with Tempura varieties, Rice, Soup and Salad. All absolutely delish! I've always raved about Musashi's Katsu...but I think they might have a competitor here. The Katsu here is SO fresh, crispy...and incredibly generous as well. Possibly the best Katsu places in Charlotte! I also like their renovations...as the place looks quite chic, while cozy at the same time. Service is seamless as well. Although this place is a good 40-45 minute drive from my home, it was worth the drive. Can't wait to return for more! read more

So much good sushi available here! I tried many options and all the employees were working hard the whole time I was there. They really know how to handle a crowd quite simple. They allow you to add or reduce items with the sushi so I was happy about that. Will definitely be back soon! read more

Honestly a great sushi place! The food quality was surprising. When you see a small place you think of comfort food, but this was high quality in my opinion. The place was a little crammed but that also speaks about how good it actually is. read more

Enjoyed my experience. Came on a Fri night just after 7PM (by myself) and they were full and taking names. Short 15 min wait and I got seated at the bar. Beer menu was typical Asian offerings - opportunity for them to have some local IPA's. Started with edamame ($6) and ordered the Salmon Lover ($16) and Tuna Nigiri ($8) and enjoyed all of it....the Nigiri was the highlight for me. Service was friendly and prompt. I plan to come back again with my bride. read more

MY GOD! I can't fit enough in my belly. I love Somi Sushi sooooo much. I over eat every time and you know what? I'm ok with that. As a red blooded American I like MORE and when I'm done more and Somi Sushi don't disappoint. Everything is 10/10 but the home made hot sauce is 50/10 lol. It's garlic and red peppers and so good I base my entree around it. Get here early cause it fills up fast. It's next to Harris Teeter and Ho Cleaners (lol) so you'll have something to do if Somi has a wait. So clean ya Hos and get your groceries and come hungry. Get some beer, saki and a bento box. I get katsu chicken bento box with a few servings of the hot sauce and always have take-home to continue the AWESOME in between visits. You're welcome read more

I realize it's been a few years since I updated this. Since my initial exuberance about this place, I have tried a couple of other sushi places in town. This remains by far and away the best. Always fresh, always delicious, always courteous. It remains my favorite by a longshot, and I feel lucky to live so close by. The owner takes genuine pride in his work and values his team. I often see the staff gather for a late lunch when they close between lunch and dinner. I sometimes tend to get there on the later side for lunch and they never rush me out. Great food, great people.. read more

I'm sorry it took me so long to discover this restaurant. This is a small family run restaurant with amazingly fresh sushi. My favorite here is the Premium Chirashi which is a sampling of sashimi over rice. I love that the Chef gave me so many variations to sample. The only difficulty is to get seats here since it's so small and popular. read more

Was a bit annoyed that I had to wait for a seat, but soon realized why there was a wait. This place is a gem and even though they were busy, I was taken care of better than I expected. The food was excellent and no corners were cut. Prices were reasonable especially for the quality level which rivals any place I've been too. It's a tight space when it's full, but they have a solid to go business if you want to avoid the risk. read more

We were craving some good sushi and this was it. This was a nice intimate setting with fresh food and great service. Our waitress was very helpful with providing suggestions on different rolls. The Aesthetic: Trendy, quaint, and impeccably clean sushi restaurant with creative rolls and friendly service. The Price: I had a self care date with myself the day I tried Somi, so it was pricier than typical for me, but it's the average cost of good sushi in CLT. The Value: You get a reasonable amount of food for the price, but the real value is in the high quality fish and ingredients. They do not skimp on the quality at all. The Parking: It was in a large plaza so there was plenty of parking, but with how good this place is, plan ahead! My Order: The Somi Roll was recommended by my waiter, and I'm so glad he did! It's the best roll I've had in Charlotte so far, and I've had more than the average consumer in this city guaranteed. I was in love with the chili sauce on top. I paired the roll with hot sake, and my self care day turned into the best day ever! The Conclusion: If you want high quality sushi in a modern spot, drive yourself to Matthews and try the Somi Roll, you won't be disappointed. read more

I don't know if I can consider this as hidden gem. They are busy and a lot of people seems to know about this place. But I don't think too much people talk about this place, so I will said it is hidden. But seriously, the service is fast and food potions are huge. I mean come on I got a sushi roll, tempura, salad, and ramen for about $20. You can't beat this. The only thing is this place is on the smaller side. If I am hungry and on a budget I am coming here!! Also this reminds me of the bento set up in Japan, which they don't go cheap on their food. Love this. read more

The lunch combo is a great deal for this side of town. When I first started coming here last August it had a little more to it though. This place was more of a 4.5-5 star experience then. Recently they've been cutting off lunch service at 2 instead of 2:30 which is also kind of a pain with my work schedule. The sushi is really good! It's a little pricey for me in the evenings, but not out of line for this side of town. It's just the lunch special is such a great deal. Literally no one should be going to Red Bowl across the street for sushi lunch IMO. Getting a specialty roll for $2 more is the way I normally do it. They have a great good ole trusty rainbow roll. They have some other unique ones, just peruse through the menu to get a description. You get a soup AND a salad, unlike a lot of sushi places. I think I used to get some seaweed salad and maybe octopus as well, but I don't think that is part of the deal anymore. I also always take the 2 pieces of nigiri over the 2 spring rolls, but the spring rolls are worthy if you are feeling up to it. I'll be back again and again, probably not on Tuesdays as the Mexican spot a few doors down has amazing specials that day. Also, I've learned to just order it to go, if I am showing up any time after 2 even though I am a quick eater. read more

I'm a repeat patron. Everything I order is so good. This place is a gem. Well worth the money spent. Fresh & fantastic. Friendly staff.

Me and my grandpa had a tradition for years that every Thursday after soccer practice we'd get Sushi, specifically the Somi Roll. The service and people were so nice they always knew we were coming every Thursday and they always knew we'd get the Somi Roll. Only bad thing is the pricing over few years the Somi Roll climbed from around nine dollars to 16 dollars. Last time I went here was around two or three years ago so it could be even higher now. But thanks for the memories Somi sushi read more

I'm so glad the Yelp Charlotte Top 100 list pointed us to this awesome sushi place. They're doing curbside pickup and the person that brought it out to my car was wearing a mask too. We got 4 rolls: 007, Plantation, Somi, and Salmon Lover. All of them were very good. The Somi was my favorite followed closely by the Plantation. I usually don't like cream cheese in my rolls, but it didn't overpower the flavor of the Somi Roll. Their spicy tuna actually has a good kick to it that I really enjoyed. Usually it's not at all spicy, but my husband and I were both surprised by the kick. I highly recommend getting some takeout sushi from them and having a nice quarantine meal at home! read more

We, my wife and I, actually had no intention of going to Somi Sushi but several other places were to capacity and the wait was enormous so we decided to give Somi a try. It was a great decision we accidentally made. Somi is a smaller restaurant but come with a family-owned appeal. The menu wasn't short of the main staples and the food came out quick and tasted great. We ordered a couple of rolls for starters then I ordered a ramen bowl which was fabulous. Piping hot and busting with flavor. A perfect dish for a cold winter day. read more

Food was fresh and very tasty! Bento box meals are HUGE! Service was quick, polite and personable! There is no kid menu/kid portions so that's something to consider if you have kids, though my 6 yo loved his chicken teriyaki! The ambiance is quiet and quaint and the restaurant is on the smaller side so I could understand having to wait for a table during peak hours! Worth it though! read more

I found this place underwhelming, unfortunately, especially considering the high rating. Pros - friendly staff - clean and in a quiet strip mall - reasonable prices Cons - there are so many rolls but they all seemed so similar. They love spicy tuna here haha - the three rolls we got were all different yet none stood out and were actually kind of bland - the takoyaki could've had more octopus It was pretty standard for a suburban strip mall sushi joint, not a place I'd go out of my way for. It's on par with other sushi spots in south Charlotte (except for prime fish). I might return to try their ramen if I'm close by. read more

We accidentally stumbled to this little gem and are so glad we gave it a chance. It's a small and quaint family-owned restaurant. We were impressed with the variety rolls they had to offer and the portions of the food. The sushi was fresh and delicious. The bento box portions were humongous and enough to feed 2-3 people. Of course, each member of my tribe thought they can finish their own portion and didn't. The waitstaff was very friendly and took the time to answer any questions. Unfortunately, we were too full to try dessert but definitely will be heading back soon to try and make sure we have enough room for dessert. read more

Somi Sushi is an amazing place. The food is really fantastic. It's hard to get a good Katsudon, if I can find it at all, and they hit the mark. All of the Nigiri I've had tastes fresh, the rolls have balanced flavors. The staff is always incredible with service and kindness. This is a spot I return to every few weeks. Highly recommended if you're looking for good sushi or Japanese dishes outside of the hibachi style. The Tai (Red Snapper) Nigiri in particular is very good. read more
