After putting in our sushi order for AYCE, I let her know about my shellfish allergy and just asked that anything with lobster or crab be on a separate plate. She was very confused, apparently not knowing what shellfish was and went down the list of all fish asking what was safe.... One of my rolls was supposed to be a spicy salmon but came out just a regular salmon but I just ate it. The sushi itself was very good, I loved the abundance of special rolls they offer.

Also, the chopsticks were very cheap and when you picked up the piece it basically fell apart. The presentation for the steamed shumai was horrible. It was served in a bowl with the chili garlic sauce in a tiny bowl on the side. The pieces were wayyy too big to pick up with the chopsticks and for the mouth. But if you managed to get the thing in your mouth, it was super hot and basically burned your mouth. Like there was no option to take a bite it was either shove the whole thing in your mouth or not eat it at all. The rolls we ordered were the Mr Crabby, which was the only good thing we ordered. The Naruto, which had too many layers of cucumber wrapped around it and the pieces were mini. The villain, a $25 roll with caviar on top, but the caviar was so sparse, it could barely be seen with the naked eye. Rainbow roll was ok but again, the pieces were tiny. Every roll was flavorless and the price point was stupid. $122 plus tip for a bland lunch was retarded. Super disappointed.

Later he came back and said your food disappeared so whatever, I ask for the check. Our mood is already not the greatest at this moment. When the check came the bartender still had the charges for the food that we never got so I had to bring it up to him to remove it. Cindy came and apologize for everything that happen. They were some of the best I've had at an all-you-can-eat sushi restaurant. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and well prepared, making the meal off to a great start. The biggest disappointment, however, was the chef's special sushi rolls. A lot of them were deep-fried, and unfortunately, they just didn't work for me. The flavors felt heavy and didn't showcase the freshness you'd expect from sushi. On the other hand, the hand rolls were much better--fresh, flavorful, and something I'd definitely order again. I completely understand that on a busy Saturday evening nothing can be guaranteed, and I was never asking anyone to be rushed out or removed from their table. However, there were several opportunities where it realistically could have happened. The first couple of times, the available tables were assigned to other servers, and it seemed like our waiter simply did not want to transfer us because another server would then take over the table. Later on, he told us twice that he would try to move us, but nothing ever happened. At that point in the evening there were no reservations left, only walk-ins, and all it would have taken was a quick conversation with the hostess asking her not to immediately seat the next guests at the newly available table so we could move there instead. I understand many people celebrate birthdays, and I know restaurants get busy, especially on weekends. But considering we made a reservation and politely asked in advance, it really felt like no effort was made at all. The issue was not that they could not accommodate us -- it was that nobody seemed to care enough to even try.

I am going to keep having the same dish until I tire of it, and that will take a while. My recommendation to those who select beef is to let the cashier know how you would like it cooked, even if you aren't asked. This way, your dish will arrive intact, and no edits will be required. I usually order the Chicken Katsu Don (Spicy) with the Seaweed Salad...and I've noticed that they've cut back on the portion size for the Seaweed (almost half of what I used to get) at the same price of 5 bucks. Outlandish pricing! Even with the Katsu Don, I noticed that they've increased the amount of rice, but reduced the amount of Chicken (?!?). I must also mention that it irks me that they add 1 buck for "Spicy"...which is basically a drizzle of sauce over the chicken. I mean, really?!? They also upcharge for Chicken over the Pork Katsu. Before, I didn't even bother mentioning some of this because it was SO good...but not so much anymore. For my last 2-3 meals here, I was just not satisfied with the quality of Katsu (barely crispy)...plus, despite the upcharge for "Spicy", there just wasn't that much sauce to it. Overall, I felt ripped over this super-casual meal. With all the upcharges, the Chicken Katsu Don Spicy is $17, and the little bit of Seaweed Salad is $5. I usually pay less for this at fancy Japanese restaurants with higher quality Katsu....all served beautifully on a plate with utensils, not plastic cartons and plastic fork. It depresses me to see that Alley 51 doesn't seem to be as big of a hit as I initially thought it'd be. In fact, half of the food vendors were closed on the weekday I was there. Frankly, I think the downfall has to do with the ridiculous pricing of foods (and drinks). Think the vendors are forgetting that this is a fast-food experience...not fine dining. Why are the diners having to pay restaurant pricing? Sorry, but I just don't feel that I'm getting a fair deal here. With the quality and the quantity of the foods having gone down, while the pricing stayed up, it's no longer a 5-star meal for me.
