Brought another couple to join us here for dinner. This couple is taking a trip to Thailand and knew little about Thai food. Bahn Thai is a lunch and dinner place offering sushi and some Japanese items along with a very good assortment of Thai dishes. Dinner is usually crowded and you have to wait as they do not take reservations. We were delightfully happy to find many open tables. Must be the "so close to Christmas" that people are not eating out much. Wife and I had the Panang Curry ($16.95), spice level 3/5. I had shrimp ($3 additional) as my protein and wife had pork (no additional price). Our friends had Gai Yang (Chicken) Entree ($10.95) and the What a Feeling Entree ($10.95). The Thai cooking comes across with more delicate flavors than in the wok-centric, high heat found in many Asian restaurants. The flavors are so soft to your palate. Spice levels are 1 - 5. We go with 3 and it IS spicy, but not too hot. If you are not familiar with Thai cooking, start at a spice level of 2 and go from there. Terrific take-out spot! Highly recommend all of Ka Nom Jeeb; Bahn Thai Wings; Basil Fried Rice; Lettuce Wraps for a lighter option; and Chicken Satay. Service was good. I was greeted warmly. As I ordered, I was asked how I wanted the final dish to be. I was asked if I wanted the tofu steamed or fried, if I wanted the chicken shredded or cubed, and different variations of things like that. The taste of the food wasn't as tasty as k wanted to be. OMG, so much for giving a place a chance based on the B.S. good reviews which were no doubt written by the restaurant owners themselves! I was missing some great Thai soup I used to order when I lived in midtown Manhattan & had a cold. That soup was great, the owners/management polite, caring and cheerful. Welcome to 2026 and a beyond disappointing so called authentic Thai restaurant. My husband stopped by there for me and even got a woman on the phone who was supposedly Thai but sounded about as American as I do (both sides of family, parents, grandparents, etc. born & raised here). I'm only mentioning this because they claim to be original, authentic Thai, and they are NOT. The woman on the phone chose two soups that she believed sounded like what I delighted in back in NYC. I asked for one cup of each so I could sample them. My husband got home with 2 small deli containers, and I immediately grabbed a spoon to taste both. One smelled like dishwater, the other like dishwater with a dash of hot sauce. The meager veggies were chopped like once or twice (i.e. practically whole mushrooms, a few bits of whatever else and one dish with a couple pieces of pulled, rubbery chicken. GROSS AND INEDIBLE, and they charged $18 for the two! Husband called them right away, and they told him to return the soups. By law they can't resell them (I'm sure they intended to dump them back into the pots!). Hubbie has Pulmonary Fibrosis and wears an oxygen tank & tube in his nose. He told them what was wrong and they saw his oxygen, he needed rest and didn't see the point of returning it. I asked him for the phone to further explain what was wrong & the woman just clicked off mid-sentence. Right now I'm just praying that those two bites of their wretched soup doesn't give me food poisoning. We're disputing the charge should it show up on our credit card, and I believe Bahn Thai is due for a visit from the Health Department. The one star reviews I kept reading go back from present all the way back to 2015 (I read enough -- oh, and BTW, never believe 5 star reviews!). One has to wonder what this place is really doing to make money, as the food and service sure aren't doing it!!. read more

Service was mediocre -soup was disgusting. Chicken was served in chunks as were the mushrooms. Odor from the soup was also horrible. NO WAY could this garbage be eaten. Seems like the "chef" (and I hesitate to call the person that) used old scummy water as the base for the soup. If eaten I am sure it would cause serious food poisoning!!! Ordered from here on Uber eats because my usual Thai place was closed. Ordering was pretty simple and straightforward, they asked you for your protein and the spice level. I got the Pud-See-Eww with chicken, spice level 3 and 2 sushi rolls. On a positive for the noodles, the portion size was really good, and it contained a lot of vegetables and chicken! It did lack flavor though, I had to add some oyster sauce and coconut aminos that I had in my house. That made it taste a million times better. Overrall 3/5. The sushi was pretty good! I got the spice girls and the shrimp tempura, I'd give them a 4.5/5. Pretty solid! read more

So disappointed in how this place has gone downhill in quality and up in price! I had chicken pad Thai and it was horrible. There was so much watery sauce and copious amounts of sugar added to the sauce, it was so sweet. Not much chicken in mine and it was rubbery and tough. Portion size was small for a $15 lunch. Bahn Thai is pretty decent! I ordered chicken Pad Thai through our delivery service at work. You can choose the spice level 1-5 so I decided to go with level 3. I thought the spice level was good but I did add sriracha. Maybe I'll go with a level 4 next time. The lunch portion was kind of small but it filled me up so it was fine. I just wish I would have had some leftovers for later. I'll definitely order again when I see it come across my desk. read more

I stopped in for an early lunch...and since super-hungry (following a long fast!), I ordered a Seafood Pad See Ew, along with their specialty Bahn Thai Roll. For once, I was a bit disappointed with their foods. While still delicious, the portions and the presentation were just weak. The noodle portion was very small, for one. Then the veggies in the Pad See Ew were just not that great...some broccoli and a ton of tasteless, white cabbage (crudely cut...way too big!). Given that this dish was around 18 bucks, I expected a bit more. Same with the Bahn Thai Roll. I saw a snazzy pic of this roll on Yelp, but mine looked nothing like that...but rather modest, with a sloppy presentation. Again, this was possibly the most expensive sushi roll on their menu, but it just wasn't all that. Sadly, I realized that it didn't really pay off to order their more expensive items...so lesson learned. Next time, I'll probably just get the Beef, Chicken or Shrimp Pad See Ew...and one of their less expensive sushi rolls. BTW, the service was really good...fast and attentive. Actually alot more friendly than usual, in the past. Also, the restaurant looked really good (think they added some new paintings?). If only the foods were worth the money paid?? This is definitely one of the better Thai restaurants in town, so I just expected better...especially with their pricier items. Great Thai place in Charlotte! Food was excellent. I had the chicken Pud Thai with a spice level of 2, and it was just enough spice with a little kick. Service was quick and helpful with the menu, and I almost had to get another round of sushi because it was so good. It's in a great shopping center as well if you wanted to stop by a bar afterwards like I did. Will definitely be back when I'm in the Ballentyne area. read more

We decided to go to Bahn Thai because we were in the area for some appointments. We walked in and were immediately greeted, we had the choice of where we wanted to sit, and they even have an outdoor area...which in hindsight we wish we would e utilized. The ambiance is great, they have a bar as well which we like. I ordered the Cherry Blossom roll and Spring Rolls for an appetizer. Both were delicious! I then ordered the Red Curry 3 star, the perfect heat for me and the flavors were perfect, My partner ordered the Pad Thai, and it looked delicious as well, he wouldn't share lol. I generally come here every Monday. Their Thai dishes have been very good. I decided to try their sushi lunch deal and unfortunately it fell far short of expectations based on their other dishes. The serving size is tiny. It haven tried the hibachi style lunch yet - but now I'm concerned I need to stick with the typical Thai entrees. Came here for dinner. The interior was a little bigger than I imagined from the outside. Staff was friendly, and service was quick. I thought I was trying something new when I opted for their Beef Noodle Soup. Turns out, it's pho. I'm not sure why they don't just call it pho on the menu. I thought it would be more like a beef stew type of noodle soup. Still, I appreciated how tender the beef was, and the broth was great. We also tried "Lucky Bag," which consists of 5 pieces of deep fried wraps containing minced shrimp, chicken, scallions, and carrots for $9.45. First time at Bahn Thai and we placed an order for takeout. The woman was very nice and let me know that it could be 45-60 mins because they were so busy. This was a Friday 6:10 and our food was ready at 7:20. There were a number of people waiting outside for their order. I'm not sure if this is a regular Friday for them or busier than normal. I had the ginger chicken with brown rice and my husband had the basil fried rice with pork. He loved his meal but the green onions in my meal really overpowered the ginger. I would order something different next time because I like a different mix of veggies in my meal. I LOVE when you have the option to choose brown rice. The much beloved Bahn Thai has slipped significantly. First, a menu revamp designed to streamline ordering achieves just the opposite and makes customizing dishes more difficult. My wife desires less spice, and do the restaurant had provided a spice carousel that allows diners to personally alter the heat level. This time the waitress provided two bottles of hot sauce, both of which made the food taste like pickles. In the past the spices included pepper flakes and a chili paste like Sambal. The overall flavor of all three of our dishes seemed muted, compared to past permutations. Finally, the music played was absolutely horrid. This loud, brash, k-pop disco fusion provided no relaxation, no link to Thai culture, and interfered with the overall meal enjoyment. They get pretty busy Thursday through Saturday night so get there early or you'll have to wait for a table. And there's not much space to stand and wait unless you go to the bar. I would potentially say that Bahn Thai is my favorite restaurant in Charlotte. The service is great, the food is amazing. I love the versatility of this restaurant as well. Perfect for a super casual family friendly ambiance but also has a nice bar and sushi and could totally be a cute and fun date night spot. Totally checks all the boxes. To say when I first ordered Uber eats bahn Thai and they had my all time favorite curry on the menu Gaeng Dang I couldn't believe it. I truly could never even find this curry in Chicago. It's amazing 11/10 recommend this dish. Since then I am a loyal customer and rewards club member and go to bahn Thai or order uber eats at least once a week. For dine in or take out it has been nothing short of perfectly consistent. Other dishes I love are the crispy duck, beef salad (yum Nuer) tonssss of beef such a good value, I love Tom Yum and thom kha for soups, and I am pregnant so I get the cucumber roll frequently also Koong Gra Bok (crispy shrimp spring roll), I also love the pud kee mow and the pud see-ew for noodle dishes. Truly everything I have tried I love, and I look forward to eating here every week. I simply can not say enough good things about this restaurant. Nice spot tucked away in a shopping center off Johnston road. You are lucky if Asian restaurants have Sapporo silver tall but not only do they have that but they also have gold and black. Very cool. Our server Jimmy V. was on point, helpful and attentive. Our edamame was a little under but still yummy and plentiful. Jimmy recommended my entree, pud ma muang, and it was delicious. There is plenty of seating inside if you want a traditional restaurant experience. I ordered the pineapple fried rice with shrimp and a spicy salmon roll for take out.
