I went in to pep boys with a flat tire. I had stopped after getting a flat tire and had gotten AAA to replace it with the spare. Pep boys told me that it was in the wall , where the flat could not be fixed and I must buy a new tire. Now the curious thing was, I had this happen to me once before and Pep boys had told me the same thing, and the same thing had happened to my dad too. There was another person with a flat tire and she was being told that it was not possible to fix the tire and she had to buy a new one. I thought it was really unlikely that every flat tire had a hole in the wall, so I asked them to put the spare back on and went to another shop. The second shop fixed the tire without any questions or comments and I drove over 10k miles on it without any issues. So in my opinion they are liars or really incompetent. I suggest finding someone else. read more

My email to Pep Boys Corporate: I am once again extremely disgusted with your lack of customer service. You have a petty child in charge of your service department by the name of Katelyn Lacara. I had issues with her when she was a rebellious angry young adult and she still seems to be one. I brought my tire in for a repair at 9am and explained the urgency in getting it repaired as soon as possible. I was assured it would be taken care of before I got off of work so I could head straight to school, well when I got there 6 hours later, the car was still in the same spot with the same flat. I had the spare ready to go in the back seat, I just needed someone to change it and was willing to pay for this. Your employee Katie proceeded to hide my paperwork and never bothered to enter my info into the computer so when I got there 6 hours later, no one knew what I was talking about and she ran out the door into the garage when she saw me coming. This is the 3rd, (THIRD) time I've had issues like this with her. I don't know why you insist on having this unprofessional person who knows nothing about cars working the service desk. A faulty oil change caused great danger and damage to my car. Oil leaked, causing the alternator belt to slip off and the car to stop moving. If I had been on a highway there would have been fatalities. If you can't trust PepBoys to do a routine oil change, why trust them with your car at all. read more

I wish I could give no stars. I've ATTEMPTED to get my oil changed at the Patchogue location twice now. The first time I made an appointment, showed up and they said it would be a two hour wait....what's the point of making an appointment?? I took my car to the same company in Centereach and had a MUCH more positive experience. I live a lot closer to Patchogue, so I decided to give them a second chance about a week ago. Einsteins definition of insanity is to keep trying the same thing over and over again and expecting different results...and this idea applied better to my experience than Id have liked it to. Anyway...I get to Patchogue Pep Boys with my son in his stroller, and ask for an inspection. A blonde haired young man took my phone number and found my information and a girl logged my car in and took my keys. She asked if I was staying or dropping it off....I said staying but going to walk (within the same little shopping square) to get my kid some food. She said it'd be 1 1/2 hours and gave me a ticket. It was to be a day driven by Murphy's Law... I returned to Pep Boys 2 1/2 hours later, expecting my car to be ready. I walked in, and saw about 5 of the mechanic workers standing at the front counter munching on food and b.s-ing. The girl who told me 1 1/2 hours quickly left the room and 3 others followed. I asked the blonde guy if my car was done and he said mind was next in line...WTF!? I was so Annoyed but didn't want to piss off people working on my car. I waited another 30 min then asked how much longer...he said an hour....I almost took it, but came to my senses and decided to get the heck out of this joke of a repair shop. The fastest they'd worked all day was when the blonde guy, almost happily, handed me my keys when I said I was leaving. All together I wait 3 hours and 15 minutes for a job I was told would be1 1/2 hours. This place is a sad excuse for a repair shop and should either fire everyone that works in the repairs dept. Or shut it down all together and stick to selling merchandise and parts. Shame on whoever runs this dump. I will never bring my car there and I will tell friends and family to never go there.... read more

I came here with the lowest expectations for the quality of service given the preceding reviews and the general reputation per word of mouth, armed with a Rewards Card hoping that the issue with low tire pressure would indeed be just a flat and would thus be covered at no cost. I lucked out and they completed the repair gratis within 20 minutes (there was someone ahead of me) and sent me on my way with the corresponding paperwork. As an "I'm sorry" they said come back tomorrow morning at 8am and we will take care of it for free. NOPE!!!! Showed up for them just to tell me again they're full. After having issues with independently owned shops I started using Pep Boys since they'd be corporately responsible if they screwed up and I can say they've always done a good job, have never tried to sell me unnecessary repairs, fix my flats and rotate my tires for free, and are very good with communicating updates. They were going to replace the blinker bulb with no problem...until we got to the back to some rude guy who was "too busy" to even lift his head out of his phone...said "no"..raised his voice about how backed up they were...an hour and half to two hours to wait..And spoke to the other helpful employee so derogatory.Thanks I think I can handle the simple switch out myself. Would easily give them no stars if I could. The most careless workers I've ever dealt with. Had my tire replaced twice in a year and had to pay full price for both. They do nothing to satisfy the customer and it's disgusting the way they talk to us. I do not recommend pep boys in patchogue even if they were the last place to go for your car. Scamming customers out of their money left and right. Their "warranty" isn't a warranty in any way. They will give you a run down tire and expect you to buy a brand new one when that one goes within a few months. Management does nothing, employees do less. Do yourselves a favor and never come to this location. I'll go to a professional from now on because all this place consists of is rookies who take your money. I usually hate having to go and leave my car to get fixed or have any work done on it. But when i come here I am usually greeted by a smiling and sweet young lady, Kaitlin( think that's how she spells it). My repairs and maintenance are done as quickly as possible and never with added costs unless told what they would be and asked if I wanted to do it. Worst service EVER!!! I came to this pep boys on a Friday to get an inspection, have a bolt stud changed for my front tire rim, an install two tires that stated I would get unlimited balance and rotation. Mechanic said all parts were in stock and stated the tires did have the warranty. I got to this store at 3pm and the mechanic said he would be done by 5pm. At 6:30pm the mechanic changed the tires..but did not install the bolt stud on the front tire because he didn't have the part as he originally stated and said the inspection didn't pass due to a "hair line" crack in my tail light...and when I said I would put red tape on the tail lamp (that Pep boys sells and is sold for this purpose!)...he still refused to pass inspection. I actually drove and got the stud for him at advanced auto parts (5minutes away in Holbrook) and when I got back at 6:50pm, the mechanic said he was going home and would not install it. On top of this, the mechanic said the warranty on the tire sign to balance tires was only good if I bought 4 tires...the tire sign said any tire----not how many you buy. I was scammed into buying 2 tires without the warranty that I was promised. I WENT TO HONDA THE NEXT DAY AND THEY PASSED MY INSPECTION AND ALSO INSTALLED MY BOLT STUD. WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS! STAY AWAY FROM THIS STORE!!!! THEY HELD ME UP FOR 4 HOURS and then SCAMMED ME FOR TWO TIRES! read more

We have been using the Pep Boys in Patchougue for several years now. The first time was with a problem on my Subaru Outback. The dealership had no idea what was wrong with it, a sensor was going off causing my cruise to stop working. They had suggested some major work needed to be done. A huge pain in the a$$!! The Subaru expert at pep boys looked it over , and went to work on it. It took several visits as the code was intermittent, but he found it and worked very hard to narrow the issue down. it ended being only a couple hundred dollars to fix instead of several thousands. I don't trust my Subaru with anyone else now. We also took my Ford Explorer there recently, it needed quite a bit of work done to the front end. They meticulously went through everything that needed to be done, and best of all I got to use a 20% off coupon at the end for all the work done. Something I was never able to do at the dealership!! I've had nothing but fantastic experiences with all the mechanics and staff at this location. read more

Very nice staff. They book too many jobs at once causing you to wait OVER 2 HOURS for an inspection. They need more staff on duty since the phones are going off constantly, there always a long line, and they keep telling you "only a few more minutes". Wow i see why all the bad reviews. About 2 weeks ago i came in to get a tire put on a wheel. The wheel came back all scratched up from the machine. I didnt really care bc i had to re plasti dip them anyway so i knew you wouldnt see the scratches. Today same thing. Scratches and all. Again doesnt matter to me personally because im gonna be plasti dipping but if you're not then do NOT get a tire put on here they WILL scratch the f*ck out of it. Last night I got off the train at 730 and found my car dead in the parking lot. I called my wife and she came up, we jumped it and it started right up, by now it's around 8. Since it was already late I figured I'd probably just wait until tomorrow or the weekend but on a whim I called Pep Boys. Sure, we're open until 9 bring it on down. So bring it on down I did. By the time I got checked in it was almost 830 and was told there was a car ahead of me but they'd get it done as soon as they could By the time they brought it in it was getting close to their 9 o'clock closing time but no one said a peep about that, they just kept working. Around 9:15 the mechanic came in and said I also had a nail in my tire, and asked if I wanted them to fix it. Mind you this is already after they closed, they're still looking to help the customer. They could have very easily ignored it, sent me on my way and went home themselves, but they didn't. The mechanic went out and proceeded to fix the tire, he checked it and it was still losing air. Odd, so he checked it out again and found another nail. He fixed that one too but still it was losing air. After messing with it for quite a while he found a third hole right next to the first and he fixed that one too Needless to say I didn't walk out of there until 10, an hour after they closed. Not once did anyone complain and as a matter of fact they went out of their way to hang out and keep me company while I waited I can't say enough about Nick, the service coordinator, or Joe, the mechanic. Everything about my experience was great! Everyone I spoke to were extremely friendly and willing to answer all the questions that I had so I knew what to expect. They had a great price, which was almost 40% less than going to the dealer, including the year warranty on the labor. Professional, friendly, timely and no surprise fees or trying to sell more work to be done. Ah, Pep Boys! My son goes there. I have stopped in myself. I cld days in advance knowing that a Sun. might be rather slow on service. 8/15/10. I was having an inspection & brakes but cld the day bef. to cancel the inspection which should have left even more time for the brakes. I dropped the car at 9:20 AM, told them I would wait, and here is my cell. I went to Starbucks in the same mall, within shouting dist., & waited. I returned as it approached four hours of waiting & a chat w/friends. The man behind the counter says, "Your car is on a test drive." (Big ole smile across his face.) A half hr. more & I approach the lady behind the counter. I am ticked. (It is as rare as hens teeth for me to get ticked.) I wouldn't even say I was angry...I would call it feeling taken & made to be a fool. I told her that I didn't appreciate being lied to, that I am not blaming her, but I should not have been told the car was done & being test driven. She apologies, saying she had to leave the desk due to someone being ill, (What does that have to do with my car repair?) and the liar approaches & apologized. He made a mistake. His mistake was to lie to me. I said, I want a discount & let me know when I can get out of here? (The liar offered10% off. Yawn.) She walks to the bay & as she does I look into the bay and see my car up and wheels off. They had pulled the car in when I first entered aft. the nearly four hour wait. I just knew it. She says, "45 min. more". I said, "Put the tires back on the car. I am leaving. It would be insane to wait over five hr for brakes." Mechanic briskly walks through the door with my key & shoots me a look of, I spit on your grave. I gave him my red faced, glassy eyed stare of woman who would drive a dead body around in car trunk of her car for a week. A quick check told me that I could take him on the adrenaline surge & I body build. We are abt. the same build. Sure, step up, dude. Just horrible. Three times I've set an appointment online, only to bring it even earlier and made to wait hours past my appointment time for them to even bring the car in. Not even a courtesy notification to say they're running behind. Manager was horrible when I complained to her, actually getting defensive. My son bought parts for his vehicle to replace brakes, calipers, rotors. The idiot who waited on him sold him all the wrong parts. My son didn't find out they were wrong until he had he vehicle apart in the driveway. Also, one of the rotors was used (rusted and beat up). My son had to go to the Auto Zone in Shirley in my vehicle to get the correct parts. When he took the wrong parts back to Pep Boys, they gave him a hard time about returning them and the sales boy was really nasty. Don't patronize this store. They are professional scammers, beside the time you spend for an oil change 3 hours ...... they come to you with professionally found issues like head light bulb or brake light or any bulb light ....... guess what ?? that is happened to me and my wife and her sister in 3 different times in 2 weeks period. of course they ask for authorization ............... but guess what if you say no you will be subject to a police temporary ticket in the road ( funny ticket i had it once before, which you must fix the light bulb in 24 hours and report to police station),WISELY IF SAY YES YOU GET HIT WITH AT LEAST $ 35 EXTRA CHARGES ... it is pissing off...... beside the repair prices v v v v expensive ..... We've tried these people twice and the results were consistently bad. 6 months ago my son's car needed a simple part. We called these people and were told they could get the part in 3-4 hours and we could come in and have it replaced. We called in 4 hours and they said the part just came in so please wait an hour. We waited an hour, went in, and were told the part wasn't actually in yet. So thanks to being lied to, we got to sit in the waiting room another 2+ hours. Then this week his girlfriend needed a NY inspection asap. So they tried these people again. First it was "drop it Wednesday and it will be done Thursday". Then they called to say sorry, it will be Friday. Happily on Thursday they called to say it was done, but they charged her for replacing 2 stop lights. Unhappily, that evening she tried the headlights and saw one was out. The next day these people refused to take responsibility for missing the headlight. Just an incredible coincidence. So before you consider going here, look up 'incredible'. It means NOT CREDIBLE. That would be Pep Boys. read more

Well store open early morning (7.30am) so i make appointment 10am. i went to store 9.30am, service person; "sorry no mechanic here yet so we will call you back in an hour also additional 1 more hour for oil change.They want me to wait 2 hours for oil change..
