Stay Far Away! Went here to have a tire patched that was punctured by a screw. Literally the simplest service this place could possibly provide... but here I am one week later and my tire is flat again. Was I initially a little disappointed? Sure, but I figured that maybe the repair wasn't done perfectly and it would need to be be redone. What I was not expecting was to look at my tire and see that the SAME SCREW was still there! Oh Pep Boys. I have so much to say to you. I've been working on cars for almost 40 years, professionally for 30. I mainly specialize in Imported cars with a concentration in emissions diagnosis and electrical repairs. I own an auto repair shop and I had skin cancer surgery in October. During the time I was recuperating, my sis had an issue with her Land Rover running poorly with a flashing check engine light. She thought she was being a good sis and not burdening me with the problems of her old Landy. For about $1800 and two weeks time, you, Pep Boys Patchogue replaced the spark plugs, a couple ignition coils and the valve cover gaskets due to oil ingress into the spark plug wells. All expected at the age and mileage and the cost wasn't far from what I would have charged had this been one of my regular customers. I returned to work middle of November and the Landy was waiting for me my first day back, running poorly with a flashing check engine light. Only my sis hadn't shared what had gone on the month prior. She was upset and embarrassed. I get through my diagnosis: one of the coils they installed had failed because one of the spark plugs they replaced was left loose and literally burned the coil. I took care of it for you Pep Boys! Except I went in and replaced all the cheap plugs and coils you installed. I was overwhelmed with jobs and never got a chance to dig into the rest of your work. I released the Landy back to my sis, but there was a persistent oil odor. Fast forward to today when I had to redo the right side valve cover where you broke two bolts in the head, attempted to seal it with extra silicone and then left the other bolts loose. Guess what else you did? Or didn't do? That's right, you NEVER TOUCHED THE LEFT SIDE OF THE ENGINE! But you charged my sis for it. So I went ahead and redid the entire job. And I actually replaced ALL the seals you should have, and extracted the broken bolts. And I replaced ALL the missing ones. And I tightened the grounds you left loose. See Pep Boys, you took advantage of my sis. And that's shitty. My sis works with autistic kids as a behavior therapist and has had cancer twice. She relies on this beast of a truck to get to her clients. And to doctor appointments. Answer me this, Manny Moe and Jack: Why would you do this? Why did you take this job on? I have been to Pep Boys Patchogue numerous times when I've had a low tire and they have plugged it. I was always happy with them until yesterday. Went there with a low tire again. They told me I needed Rear shocks, that one was leaking so bad that the tire was bald. I let them replace the tire which was close to $200 and I'm sorry I did. The total quote to me was $1108. I only did the tire and went to Toyota today, who informed me that there was nothing wrong with my shocks. They checked out the car at no charge. I'm assuming I was ripped off on the tire and possibly could've been ripped off on shocks. read more

Firstly, they could not do a simple headlight repair correctly, they were so negligent they left the box in the hood of the car after replacing it. Secondly, my air conditioning was blowing warm and they claimed it was the compressor was dead and needed to be replaced, $1200 later it was immediately blowing even hotter than before after they lied and claimed it was ice cold. I brought in for a headlight out and was quoted $385 because it was hard to get at and was going to take him 2 hours... I went home you tubed it and it was done in 20 min including the time it took to buy the bulb.... Just paid to purchase 4 tires since they needed to be replaced. I asked for an inspection too since I was overdue. They looked at the car and I needed brakes w/rotors, rear suspension and a wheel alignment. They wanted to charge me $2600. $1000 just for the breaks. That is absolutely insane. I said no and I would go elsewhere. I picked up my car when it was ready, after driving for 10 minutes, a very loud vibrating sound came from my car. I called them right away and they told me to bring it back. I did and the mechanic that did the inspection told me (without looking at the car) that I would need to fix everything outlined in the inspection report in order for the noise to go away. I would have had everything fixed if the prices weren't insane. I would have loved to upload the sound coming from my car but there is no option to. Went for tires and received a messed up car. My most reliable, highly recommended mechanic was booked solid (Hondaman in Ronkonkoma -- the BEST) so I went local for a simple oil change. They over charged ($112 seems high), gave 'complimentary' check of auto without telling me (rifling through the glove compartment, leaving items on the floor). When I was helped around 5:55 I let the person know that I would be going to Panera next door to eat while I wait for the car. He confirmed my number and provided me with an invoice that said customer waiting. At 7:10 I hadn't received a call and walked back over saw my car outside but the doors were locked. I made my appt several weeks ago. I walked in today for my scheduled service at about 8 am (when they open) and the girl at the counter seemed very standoffish. All she said was I have to see if I have that. I am not sure what that meant. I booked my appt online weeks ago and even received a reminder about the appt. She came back a minute later and asked for my keys. I asked how long the service would take and she said an hour. I said ok, because I am going to need to wait for the car. There was one man waiting in the only seat available in their shop. I decided to go wait at Panera until the hour was up. I noticed they had texted a link for updates on the service status. It said approximate time ready 9:30 am. It was longer than the hour the assistant service manager had mentioned, but what could I do? At 9:30 I walked back over to see if the car was ready. The service manager seemed annoyed and said they've been working on your car and do you have somewhere to be or something? Originally she quoted an hour, I waited till 9:30 like the link suggested, so I didn't feel like I was rushing them. I reminded her she had said an hour and it had been an hour and a half so I was just checking. I noticed they did a free inspection too (which was nice but I didn't ask them to do that and that's probably why it took longer, and had I known I would have declined that). The girl disappeared into the back for at least 40 mins. The vibe I got was that she didn't want to be bothered with any questions about the car or updates on the service. I decided to sit on the only dusty chair and wait for an update or my car to be finished. The place was absolutely filthy I started to notice too.I noticed the link for updates about my service stopped working and it was never updated again. During this time I noticed another woman walk into the shop. She stood around with no one helping her for a good 10 mins. A man that worked there walked by her into the bathroom and didn't even ask if she needed help with anything. Finally she called their telephone number and that service manager came to the front to assist her. The vibe was that she was doing you a favor by acknowledging you. Finally I noticed my car was ready, when a man brought it up to the front of the store. The girl came back to the register to check me out. Didn't tell me an amount or anything I just inserted my card and she handed me an invoice and that was that. She didn't mention anything found in the free inspection they provided. This is poor customer service. What is the point of providing an inspection if you're not even going to discuss the findings with the customer? Confusing. When I got home I noticed that a bottle of the solution used to clean my headlights was JAMMED in my hood. I managed to get it out, and the entire bottle is full. I don't even think they used it on my car! This place is a total fail. By looking at it, it looks like they are about to go out of business. Went to get an alignment on my car after I had replaced the steering rack/tie rods. Got a call saying the mechanic would not do the Alignment due to "rust" on the tie rods. The "rust" was light surface rust due to the brand new threads on the tie rod from weather. Easily could've been rubbed off with a wire brush. They tried to sell me new tie rods for $600, even though these are no more than 2 weeks old. "Mechanics" here are very incompetent and lazy. Be aware, they will try to get you to buy something that is uneeded if you don't know what you're talking about or are not mechanically inclined. Do not go here, find another shop. read more

Arriving to the appointment to realize that they don't! They only could offer me "sorry". They have no regards for customers or their time. Only one star because Yelp won't let me give 0 stars. On my way home from work and the tire light on the dash came on. Stopped at pep boys patchogue and went in and asked if someone could just check my tires. Was told "let me see if I have a mechanic" and the person disappeared behind a door. About two min later he and another man walk out talking about the service the second man just completed. They both look over at me standing there and the first man turns to the mechanic and says "oh, do you have time to check a tire" The mechanic quickly says, no, I'm busy. Then I ask if they could just put air in so I could get home, again he quickly says no, I'm busy. Thanks for nothing Pep Boys. By the way, I got in the car and drove slowly with my flashers on to GOOD YEAR in CENTEREACH. They were happy to check my tires for me IMMEDIATELY, even with two cars up on the lift. Added air to one tire that was low and offered an appointment for the next day should the light come back on. (Whic it hasn't 3 days later) All it need was three pounds of air. Took all of 3 minutes to check my tires and add a little air. I was so happy to have peace of mind to get home I handed the young man $10 and left. That's $10 in his pocket for 3 minutes of his time. I will list the positives first: it was easy to get an appointment online, and they finished working in my car much faster than I expected. They even beat their own estimate of how long it would take. Beyond that, the experience was pretty bad. I waited at least 5 minutes while the sole counter person, Fred, spoke to someone on the phone. When I was called up, I had to tell him all over again all the details of the issues I was having even though I wrote them all when I made the appointment. I was half way through telling Fred what was going on with my car, when the phone rang again. Fred spoke to this person (it appeared both calls were from other employees/other pep boys locations) for about another 3-5 minutes. When he finished, I thought he would get the rest of the story from me, but instead he proceeded to simply print up the invoice and then acted surprised when I told him there was more that the car needed. To make matters worse, they called me about 45 minutes later to ask me ONCE AGAIN what my car needed. When I arrived to pick up my car, Fred was AGAIN on the phone. If you want customers to return, at least pretend to care. Overall: very fast but very poor customer service. Won't be back. Update 6/21/19: taking off a star because the next day (today) I noticed that my newly purchased tire had been inflated to 62 psi. My owner manual says not to go over 35 and with the temperatures rising this will only increase. Very dangerous. I verified it with 2 different tire gauges (see pictures) and when I called back I spoke to Fred again who said "if it were 62 it probably would have blown". When I arrived to have the air let out Fred was again there and appearing to text on the phone (see pictures). Lauren was very helpful and Tyquwan the tech admitted he was the one who worked on my car the day before. He was apologetic and said he didn't know how this happened as he let the air out for me. You "inspected" it for "free" (whatever) and 1800 and two weeks later I had my LR "fixed?" in your parking lot with the check engine light still on, none of the work completed correctly , a "guarantee/warranty" for the parts or the work (who cares there's no way I'm bringing it back to you idiots) a bunch of explanatory fiction about bolts and how hard you worked blah blah blah. Truck didn't run any better and it was very disappointing Bottom line it's not the customers fault you did not have the skill level to do the job. Just be honest next time and say you can't do it. The service is always done and trusted, but always takes much longer then expected even with an appointment. If I schedule an oil change and service, they don't have my oil filter in stock (even though I booked the change before hand). My car ends up being there all day or I have to come back. My tires never get rotated as part of the service either. I just end up leaving because of how long I'd been waiting. I give the review four stars because they do the oil change with filter, explain everything to me, etc. I know my car doesn't have a common oil filter. The price is what it should be (not over charged). The staff are friendly and accommodating, they just need to get it together a bit. read more

Had an appointment set for 3 o'clock and I called today and they said that it was Okay if I came at 3 o'clock and I specifically asked for the technician Justen to work on my car and they had no problem and said it was perfectly fine and didn't tell me anything else besides that. I decided to let it get to me and after that I went to go grab my keys to give to the tech and after walking back in if not even 5 minutes the guy asked if I was dropping off or picking up which was also weird because we have just spoke. I walked in on a Monday and the shop was empty. I asked the young lady behind the counter if I could make an appointment for inspection. She replied definitely, when do you want it. I replied Wednesday at 11am. She said no problem. I than asked will I be able to wait, and she said absolutely. Perhaps my fault for not asking how long. Anyway, I arrive 5-10 minutes early for my appointment hoping to be in and out quickly. I was told it would be about an hour wait. I didn't have a choice at that point since I didn't have a ride home and I couldn't see spending 25.00 for a cab round trip. Problem with this place is there is no waiting room and no AC. It's located in a small shopping center so I left and walked into a couple of stores to cool off. Temp outside had to be 80 with high humidity. Pep boys sends a text which allegedly allows you to follow your vehicles progress. After 35 minutes my vehicle was still parked where I left it. According to their text a mechanic had not yet been assigned to my car. I walked into another store and walked around to kill time When I came out I was thrilled to see my car had been moved. To make a long story short, I got my inspection done in about an hour and half. Would not of been awful if they had a place for people to sit and wait. Not only do they not have a waiting area but the store looks awful. In dire need of paint and a face lift. The employees while not rude to me were also not friendly. Perhaps working in those conditions can make most people miserable. Would I go back? Maybe, but I definitely would have someone drive me home while I waited. Inspection SCAM!!! I brought my vehicle in for NYS inspection. I was told the wait would be 15-20 minutes to get it in the shop. They got it in in 15 minutes, but then they had it on the lift for 90 minutes, and removed all four tires (NYS only requires one to be removed). Inspection should only take 15 minutes! Then they tell me I failed because of "uneven brake pad wear". That is NOT grounds for failing inspection in NYS!!! All of my brake pads are good, but I replace the pads on one rear wheel after a stuck pin, so that wheel's pads had slightly more meat than the other rear. She picked her car up yesterday, paid for the repairs and New York State inspection that this facility claimed to have performed, and when driving last night discovered that her headlight was out. When she called today to bring it back in and have them fix it, they said they were booked up and she couldn't come in, and that it had worked when she picked up the car. None of us will ever use this service center again, and we will be reporting them to the NY DMV for charging for and clearly not performing a complete inspection. read more

My husband went to Pep Boys in Patchogue for an oil change and inspection. After almost a 2 hour wait they came back to him with the news the car failed inspection and Anthony said it would cost about a $1000 because the passenger side brake had a leak in the caliber that caused uneven breaking and that the rotor and break pads would also need to be replaced. My husband questioned how this could be when the brakes felt fine, there were no leaks in our driveway, and the car had less than 23,000 miles on it. He had no response other than to say they might have to scrape our inspection sticker off ( that is illegal). He left. We took it to another auto repair place and if passed. I decided to give your Bayshore location a try: I went there in June requesting my brakes to be checked and the bald tire to be replaced. The next day my brakes were screeching. My husband brought it back. They supposedly fixed the problem and it seemed as if they had, the noise was gone. I am slightly deaf and can't hear certain noises. This weekend when my husband was in the car he said there was a noise coming from the back that sounded like a baseball card in bicycle spokes. The same day I also tried use my emergency brake for parking, however there was no emergency brake. I had to park elsewhere. I made an appointment and brought it back. I waited 3 hours. At 9:05 PM I was told the car was finished. I was sitting there; the car wasn't brought into the shop until 8:45. The mechanic spent maybe 10 minutes on the car. I asked the counter clerk what was wrong and how it got fixed in ten minutes. The mechanic had left without talking to either myself or the counter clerk. The counter clerk called the mechanic. Supposedly, the emergency brake is corroded. Did he inform me, no. Did he inform the counter clerk, no. Now I was advised that I would have to come back because the parts aren't in stock. The mechanic just left with the car being worse than it was when I brought it in. The counter clerk couldn't believe how it sounded when he test drove it two feet at maybe 3 miles per hour. Now I'm stuck with a car that I can't drive at 9:15 PM. The counter clerk was incredibly nice and offered me a ride home. (I called my son to pick me up.) The counter clerk put the car in the bay overnight. I called this morning at 8:30. It didn't seem like anyone in the shop was aware of the issue. The only positive comments I could make would be the counter clerk calling right the person who was scheduled for today about what needed to be done the first thing today. Yet when I called the manager was or seemed to be unaware. He told me he would have a mechanic look at it immediately. It's a half hour later and no call. I just received a call at 9:35 and the manager told me a zip tie was used to hold the corroded emergency brake in place. He is trying to blame someone else. Actually, I liked Pep Boys and have been servicing my car there for the last 37,000 miles. I would have to say this issue was cause by a Pep Boys mechanic. Let me ask you this: Is this how you treat all of your customers? If you were me would you give Pep Boys another opportunity to make things right? read more
