Do not go here!!Brough my truck in for 4 new tires and inspection. They failed my truck for breaks which is completely non sense. I had them done only a few months prior. They were just trying to get a break job out of me. I brought my truck to a real mechanic and it passed with nothing wrong. I ask the mechanic about my breaks and he said they were completely fine. I walked in on a Monday and the shop was empty. I asked the young lady behind the counter if I could make an appointment for inspection. She replied definitely, when do you want it. I replied Wednesday at 11am. She said no problem. I than asked will I be able to wait, and she said absolutely. Perhaps my fault for not asking how long. Anyway, I arrive 5-10 minutes early for my appointment hoping to be in and out quickly. I was told it would be about an hour wait. I didn't have a choice at that point since I didn't have a ride home and I couldn't see spending 25.00 for a cab round trip. Problem with this place is there is no waiting room and no AC. It's located in a small shopping center so I left and walked into a couple of stores to cool off. Temp outside had to be 80 with high humidity. Pep boys sends a text which allegedly allows you to follow your vehicles progress. After 35 minutes my vehicle was still parked where I left it. According to their text a mechanic had not yet been assigned to my car. I walked into another store and walked around to kill time When I came out I was thrilled to see my car had been moved. To make a long story short, I got my inspection done in about an hour and half. Would not of been awful if they had a place for people to sit and wait. Not only do they not have a waiting area but the store looks awful. In dire need of paint and a face lift. The employees while not rude to me were also not friendly. Perhaps working in those conditions can make most people miserable. Would I go back? Maybe, but I definitely would have someone drive me home while I waited. I won't even give them a 1. You requested that I give Pep Boys another opportunity to correct the situation. I decided to give your Bayshore location a try: I went there in June requesting my brakes to be checked and the bald tire to be replaced. The next day my brakes were screeching. My husband brought it back. They supposedly fixed the problem and it seemed as if they had, the noise was gone. I am slightly deaf and can't hear certain noises. This weekend when my husband was in the car he said there was a noise coming from the back that sounded like a baseball card in bicycle spokes. The same day I also tried use my emergency brake for parking, however there was no emergency brake. I had to park elsewhere. I made an appointment and brought it back. I waited 3 hours. At 9:05 PM I was told the car was finished. I was sitting there; the car wasn't brought into the shop until 8:45. The mechanic spent maybe 10 minutes on the car. I asked the counter clerk what was wrong and how it got fixed in ten minutes. The mechanic had left without talking to either myself or the counter clerk. The counter clerk called the mechanic. Supposedly, the emergency brake is corroded. Did he inform me, no. Did he inform the counter clerk, no. Now I was advised that I would have to come back because the parts aren't in stock. The mechanic just left with the car being worse than it was when I brought it in. The counter clerk couldn't believe how it sounded when he test drove it two feet at maybe 3 miles per hour. Now I'm stuck with a car that I can't drive at 9:15 PM. The counter clerk was incredibly nice and offered me a ride home. (I called my son to pick me up.) The counter clerk put the car in the bay overnight. I called this morning at 8:30. It didn't seem like anyone in the shop was aware of the issue. The only positive comments I could make would be the counter clerk calling right the person who was scheduled for today about what needed to be done the first thing today. Yet when I called the manager was or seemed to be unaware. He told me he would have a mechanic look at it immediately. It's a half hour later and no call. I just received a call at 9:35 and the manager told me a zip tie was used to hold the corroded emergency brake in place. He is trying to blame someone else. Actually, I liked Pep Boys and have been servicing my car there for the last 37,000 miles. I would have to say this issue was cause by a Pep Boys mechanic. Let me ask you this: Is this how you treat all of your customers? If you were me would you give Pep Boys another opportunity to make things right? read more

the mechanics do not complete jobs.. both my wife and i on separate occasions had an oil change and they never put oil back in the car.... my dad had a trailer hitch installed and they ruined his bumper and then said they cant do anything about it..according to my mechanic, due to the lack of professional at pep boys my engine was miles away from seizing up!! do not go there for any car problems.. read more

I took my car here once, and told them change the brake pads while it was there, and then do a state inspection. They got it backwards, they did the inspection, failed it claiming the brakes were bad (when we all know it's almost impossible to fail for brakes) then wanted to do the brakes. So I left without having the brakes or new inspection done to never return again. I wouldn't buy a lightbulb from that dump. **in response to the follow up** This was years ago, I just decided to tell the story. That was 2006 or 2007, sold the car shortly after that... but I'll just assume business is still conducted in the manner. I was also "out" $37.50 which I had to pay again. Parts department: Complete joke. Nobody has any clue as to what you're looking for even when you're basically sitting there with an Owners Repair Manual open, pointing at the part you need with a laser pointer.. And when you do finally get the "correct part".. you actually have to make sure its the correct part.. Yeah,, the box/part number may be right.. but inside could be the completely wrong part!!!! Retail: there is never any help... when there is, they too are uneducated when asking where things are. I made an appointment for an oil change and New York State Inspection on August 19 2019 online at 2pm. I arrived at 1:40 and signed in and gave my keys At 3:50 I received a call from the office asking where my wheel lock key for my car was, I gave him the location of it, in the back in a yellow envelop. He then said that my car failed inspection because my brake caliper was leaking and due to that he could not pass my car. The inspectors name was Anthony The inspector said if you want to see where its leaking from I'll show you. I asked him how could that be, the brakes were performing normally and there is no fluid on my driveway surface. He then said he would show me. My car only as 23000 miles He also said he could not get the wheel off the car with out the wheel lock. I asked him if that's the case how much would it be to fix the caliper. He said it was not just the caliper and that I would need new rotors and pads for both front wheels because of the uneven wear from the caliper leak. And that there was warping and scorching. When he calculated it all out, the bill would've been $1067 for parts and labor. I said I don't understand, there was no indication of this from driving that the brakes were fine. He said well it has failed and that my sticker would be removed. I said I will call him back. I walked into Pep Boys and said I want the car back, I paid for the oil change and inspection and drove home. I had until the end of the month on the inspection sticker so they did not remove it. I called another mechanic the next day and he said to bring it in and don't forget the wheel lock. I went to the car to get the wheel lock key only to find that it was missing from the envelope in the back and no where to be found in the car. I called Pep Boys and I was told that the inspector was not in today but he would follow up with a phone call the next day. I then had to take the car to a tire shop and pay $25 for them to remove the lug nut key so I can have the car looked at by another mechanic. I then went then to another mechanic who examined my car and stated unequivocally there was nothing wrong with my brakes! He did say there was a smudge of grease on the wheel in question he guessed it was put there to show "the leak". Of course I then had to pay for another inspection. I still have not received a call from the Patchogue Pep Boys about the wheel lock key. This was shameful on Pep Boys and for the inspector/mechanic. I've been going there for many years and this has left me angry and disappointed. I would strongly suggest anyone considering to use this facility to think twice and if you do question everything they say especially if you are hit with an unexpected and expensive repair. If I could rate this place and mechanic a zero I would. read more

Patchogue store never disappoints me. Great staff, great service, great selection of products - these folks have their sh!t together. Pretty young lady helped me pick out windshield wipers and then (even on a Sunday) had a very competant mechanic install them for me in less than 5 minutes. It's all about Customer Service. Had a scheuled oil change today at Pep Boys. First had to wait almost 10 min in line while the single person at the service desk took care of one single couple ahead of me in line. Then the appointment I had booked online didnt show the special I signed up for, and the guy behind the counter argued with me over the price, and even pulled out his phone and told me to show him where on their website I saw the price (BTW, mobile version of the website doesn't work the same or have the same options as the desktop version). I tell him multiple times it was $19.99 and finally that I had the paperwork printed up and couple bring it back into him. He finally said he would let it slide this time, but next time bring in the paperwork - because apparently his system doesnt' track specials that are stated as part of the appointment booking process. Then I go and wait. After waiting for over and hour and twenty minutes, I looked out back, and my van still hadn't been moved. I asked for my keys back and left. Absolutely abyssmal customer service, lack of staff, lack of concern for customer, lack of communication between appointment and service appointment. Never once did the guy say things were running behind, or that there might be a delay, or that he could try to reschedule me when I asked for the keys back. read more

I waited a whole month to post this in hopes pep boys would rectify this problem. I went in for a dead battery. I picked up my 2018 Jeep on Sunday 10/17/2021. I paid a total of $193.32 for labor and installment for a new battery. Once my vehicle was ready, I received a call from someone stating my truck was ready however my check engine will be on for a couple of days, he assured me I could come back if it wasn't resolved. He also advised that my "alternator was low" that the front desk would provide an estimate $1,152.36 to "remove and replace alternator". Before I even left the parking lot, my dashboard had a message stating " Vehicle will turn off" with my battery light and check engine light on. I questioned why these service lights would be on if these lights were not on prior. They also stated they needed to run a diagnostic report which would cost $80. I was also provided a series of numbers from a diagnostic run P0631, P2AF5, P2504, P00FD which are all related to battery and alternator. To sum up the story, my truck died again. I brought it to JEEP BROWNS of 112 who provided legitimate paper work stating "checked, found outside shop installed new battery found battery cable for alt disconnected from main battery..". VERBATIM. I went to pep boys and was completely mistreated. The manager Qader who goes by Dave is condescending and needs communication and sensitivity training, did not introduce himself after he was hiding in the back letting the front desk girls solve his problems. I asked for a refund of labor or accommodations, instead no one took responsibility. I called and email corp with no resolution but a 10% coupon. These kids don't know what they are doing and by the looks of the review below, this is a common theme. TERRIBLE. -0 stars. Please beware and don't come here. I was recommended this location by a friend, who will no longer be bringing her vehicles and families vehicles here after this incident....ps nothing was wrong with my alternator. read more

This store and its employees stink. What a disappointment. Called Saturday to try and buy ans have installed 4 tires. Was told that I would have to make an appointment and that the earliest one would be Monday. I scheduled for 6. I has my son the car there a little early somewhere around 5. He was told that the appointment had been cancelled and unless he was willing to leave the car it still would not be done til the next day. When he returned home I called the store and spoke with Rashid who told to GOOGLE IT when I finally asked for a corporate number. I had neither used profanity or yelled, although my voice did get raised when I questioned why he would give a customer a call less than 2 hours before a scheduled appointment. I called at another pep boy store and whomever answered there readily gave me the corporate number 1 800 PEP BOYS. I have a coupon for $100 off because of a prior purchase. Pep Boys gets 4 stars as an auto store with a good stock and selection, but the 1 star is for the auto shop. I am writing this review after the 3rd time they tried to rip me off. I went in for tires, an adjustment, and an oil change, with an appointment. They told me it should take around 1.5 hours. I waited with my children for 3 hours and when they were done I was told they couldn't do the oil change because I had a hole in my oil pan, which they said would cost $1243 to repair/replace. The guy said 12,43, so I said $12.43, then he laughed and corrected me. I took my car without the oil change. I then watched an 8 minute YouTube video showing me how to replace the pan and gasket myself. The pan, gasket, and oil was $80 at Advance Auto. I am a 34 year old woman with no auto mechanic experience. I replaced the gasket and pan myself in 45 minutes, without a lift and basic hand tools. Mind you, there was no hole in the pan, it was just the gasket leaking, but I already had the part and it was cheap, so whatever. As far as I know, mechanics charge for the parts and their time, so I cannot for the life of me understand where they pulled that $1243 from. A few month ago I went in for struts and was quoted $1600. I went to a local mechanic and had it done for under $500. I had stopped going there for years after they overcharged me and crashed my car during a test drive. I will back them up by pointing out that the company took responsibility for the accident and working through the insurance went well, plus they gave me 30% off a bunch of stuff, so they aren't the shadiest company in the world, but if you have no idea how much auto repairs costs, do not ever go to Pep Boys for anything beyond the basics, like tires and oil changes. read more

To call their mechanics/management incompetent would be an insult to incompetent people. I took my all wheel drive SUV to them to have my two front tires replaced because I had a slow leak in one of the tires. I didn't buy the tires from them because they wanted $80 more than I found the tires for on line, with free delivery. Well they put the new tires on the rear of the car, after I told them several times I wanted the tires on the front of my car, They called the incompetent, infected mechanic to the front to explain to me some BS about they have to mount on the rear because its a rear wheel drive car, but my car is all wheel drive and I NEED them on the front. They had to pull my SUV again and switch it, but they put the bad tire on the rear. I was there for 4 hours and they still got it wrong. When I called the next day to complain and get another appointment, I discovered the mechanic who worked on my car had Covid and was out. The same mechanic I spoke to, who drove my car and handed me my keys. I decided not to return to that virus incubation den and go some place else to get it all sorted, after I got a Covid test. I tell her I have an appointment and she says sorry the online booking stinks and that I should have called the store and proceeds to chuckle. I asknow for the manager and she says that Rich is the manager and that he is not there. The front of theveryone house manager basically said that they areally short staffed, but couldn't answer why I was not notified why my appointment couldn't be held. I lost my front passenger tire on Sunrise hwy. and Waverly Ave. a week ago. I really didn't have any options on where to have my car towed. I didn't want to take the car there after having a bad experience in the past. I thought maybe this time might be different. I had a 1pm appointment that I made online. I arrived at 1:12pm due to an accident with an overturned car. I was told about 30 minutes till it was taken in and than about 30 minutes for the oil change. At 2:27pm I went up to the desk to inquiry about the status of my 1pm oil change- the girl at the desk Jackie looked passed me as if I wasn't standing there; I looked in the same direction and than looked back she than acknowledged me with a chuckle that it wasn't ready. At 2:40pm it was finally brought up on the lift for me to be told the drain plug was too stiff. Naved told me either a drain plug or an oil plan needs replacement which is aluminum and expensive. I tried to return a 10.99 chrome pipe that didn't fit my truck. I wasn't asking for money back as I shop there often I was asking for a store credit. I had a receipt and was refused return when I just recently spent $200 plus on accessories and what not the day before. I know retail and this courtesy could've been extended to a good customer but the supervisor chose to deny me a return for $10.99. I wasn't one of those people who scream and yell I was calm and just asked nicely.
