I needed four new tires. I called and got a price that was good. Very polite, very professional and the guys in the front were friendly. What I thought was the best though was this - I am a woman and they were very informative and clear about my options. That's a great practice and much appreciated! Thank you! read more

I refer on average about 20 customers to have battery tested and replaced to this location a month.. today my customer needed a patch on her tire and she told me she wanted to go to pep boys to get it patched..I usually send my tire customers to another shop but she insisted to go through pep boys so I called to find out the price and make sure they can take care of her..Instead they tried to take advantage of a 52 year old woman by telling her she needed new tires even though she is on a fixed income..we took the tire to americas tire where they patched it in 15 minutes and assured us we did not need any new tires..you lost her business as well as mine..I will never refer another customer to your store again read more

Pep Boys - Auto service at pep boys. They do everything and have a parts store inside. First time here, didn't even know it existed - Auto Repair Near Me - Modesto, California

Burn me once. Burn me twice and you get 1 star. The first time. You said you did not install catalytic converter on my car. A week later, there is one in your shop getting one installed. Then I just looked up a part and called to check stock. You said you don't have a listing for it. So I called your stockton store. Not only do they show a listing. But they show you have 2 in stock! Wow its magic! I guess you don't want to make sales anymore. So I'm off again to your competitors. .. Sorry for ya. Business must be so good for you that you turn down people. .. read more

I cannot express my gratitude to the men working tonight enough!!! The level of customer service far exceeded my expectations!!! Our car overheated today... Pouring water everywhere. We are supposed to go to LA tomorrow to celebrate our 1 year anniversary and have hardly any money... We were quoted 230.00 (max) to fix it and we would have had to cancel our trip all together. Upset we said go ahead and fix it... Such is life. The guys worked diligently to get it done quickly and when we signed the paperwork they handed us our receipt and said..."happy anniversary" NO CHARGE!!!! I could not believe it... Happy, happy tears!!! These men are a blessing from God!!! They were so nice, giving and helpful! Please give them your service... They are obviously angels in disguise! read more

The auto work at Pep Boys is fine. I was very concerned about the lack of customer service I received however. I made an appointment for an oil change on my truck at 7 pm. I drove by at 6 pm, and saw no customers, so I decided to stop and see if the shop was able to take me early. It took me about 6 minutes to find someone to help me. This man who greeted me said he could start my oil change and said he was going to go get his manager. The manager, Juan, came out a few minutes later, and had an attitude as soon as he saw me. We got the paperwork done, and he told me to wait. In about 10 minutes, Juan told me I was good to go, and told me the total bill. I asked why it was done so fast, and asked if the fluids, brakes, and tires were serviced also. He told me no, they don't have time to do all the services today. I was confused, because when I get an oil change on my vehicle, it is assumed that all the other services are performed also. He told me, in the evenings, they only have 2 employees working, so they can't do everything if they want to close on time. If it is the case that only certain services are offered after 5 pm, then that information should be disclosed to people upon making appointments. In the 20 minutes I was there, Juan also turned away 2 other customers for oil changes. "Hours of operation" should mean open for everything, not whatever you can get done so you can begin to clean and finish the rest of the evening tasks. read more

Very upset, drive about 25 min to get here... desk clerk told me he's behind and I won't be able to pick up my car until 3 hours later... I filled out all the info online that I would be waiting. I took my car in here to get the headlights installed . And possibly fog light . They quoted me $260 just for the headlights that i provided to be installed which i thought was high but i was on a tight schedule and it was my day off and i was desperate to get them done . Well they call me 2 hrs later saying it would be $200 more to install the fog lights because there's no wiring for them . And new wiring has to be ran . Which i also provided all the parts . i was paying for their shitty labor . Well i get my car back . Not only was the wiring already there originally for the fog lights . my car headlights were crooked the wiring was messy my plastics were demolished and they threw away my original lights that i was going to restore . Factory $300 each . I called to try and make it right and he (Peter)got very argumentative and it was my fault . DO NOT GO THERE ! I'm out $500 and have to have a real mechanic fix it . Not to mention my. I hope more people write reviews to warn people to stay away from this corrupt ass place ! Managers name is Peter . Full of liars ! And cons ... Firstly, I haven't been to Pep Boys on McHenry since 2006, and here's why. I had a bought a crappy station wagon that didn't pass inspection (my fault). I was fairly new to Modesto, so I picked a giant corporation to fix my car, thinking that they would be honest and give me a fair price (my fault again). In the end, it was a $1400 "repair" to get a car that I had recently bought for $1100 to pass inspection. The damn thing died for good '07. Curse you, Pep Boys! I've since found Auto World on La Loma as my mechanic for life, I hope they always stay as honest and awesome as they have been since I stumbled upon them in 2009. read more

I haven't ever had to go here for any big issue. There was a large piece of plastic or something that came off on the bottom of my car and I wanted to get it fixed. They took care of me right away, let me know what it was for, and then just added a couple of screws back in to get it right back up on my car. I wasn't charged at all and they even cleaned a bit of my car for me. Based on this minor experience, I give it 3 stars. read more

I had to come back for a 2nd day to get my brake inspection even though I had them put on four new tires the first day. It would have been nice to have both services done together. I'm upset that they didn't include the tire service in my Carfax report. Also, they charged me $50 just for them to tell me from a quick visual that my air conditioner was beyond repair. They didn't have to run tests, so that was a rip off. Very disappointed with the overall service for the price I paid. read more

I came into pep boys may 20th at about 5:20 pm when they close at 6pm in need of a new tire, I knew it would not be safe enough to drive when I got there they turned me away because apparently they felt they would not be able to to finish by 6 o'clock. So I left and in return after 5 miles of driving my tire pops! On highway 99! I understand we all want to get off work at the time we are suppose to but come on. You might as well change your hours since you stop helping customers an hour before close especially the ones who are in need. Terrible terrible terrible. Luckily nobody was hurt with a tire popping on the freeway. I emailed the email they gave me for a further "investigation" never got a response... read more

So I just moved here to Modesto and wanted to see how honest this place was , doing wheel bearings, (do all mechanic work myself) took it in said I need these bearings in and told me they needed to be pressed in when really they just needed to be tapped in and they knew from the start. charged me the full price for about 10 minutes of work said it took them "2 hours" . Just another big company that is not honest just to make an extra buck. DONT RECOMMEND read more

I came here today for a tire repair (my apartments will not allow us to do maintenance on our vehicles) and met with Richie (great advisor) they took my car In no problem and fixed it! I came across this place because of Firestone on Dale refused to take my car even though I made an appointment the night before they had the nerve to say "we did not receive it on our end and we cannot take any walk ins." I don't post reviews... unless I really need to. In this case I really need to. I came in because my brother recommend he had such great service and knew they were helping him for the needs of his car, not trying to haggle him. So I came today because I had a nail in my tire. As I was going to wait, I was going to walk to a Starbucks while my car gets done. As I'm walking, one van I noticed was following me and being very suspicious, like pulling up in front of me going to the parking lot i had to pass... So I went back to the shop and let the associate know (Emil). As I waited, I was told my breaks needed to be done (which I figured;i had asked if they can check them out), but he told me I'd have to wait longer. This man offered to take me home (I live close by) to make sure I was safe. Seriously?!?! I have not received such amazing customer service and making sure I was ok. So thank you Emil! I def recommend this place. I don't understand why this place has now reviews? But thank you! read more

I have purchased a few headlight bulbs here and after i go around the hallway to the service department and they have installed them for me at no charge. But today the service dept guy said it would be $20 to put it in... uh okay. I just spent $20 on the bulb and now you want another $20 to put it in??? It's not so much the fact that I have to pay a fee, but $20 for this simple task? (I would do it myself if I had the tools) Don't mechanics MAKE like $20 an hour? This one bulb replacement certainly shouldn't take you an hour to do. read more

Seeing as how I never need parts for my car because my mechanic takes care of everything, I have to give them 3 stars because they do have a very wide variety of items that you can buy for your car to jazz it up or whatever and their prices are better than most of the other places in town. I needed some reflective tape and tried 4 other places and only Pep boys had it. And they do carry the synthetic oil I like to use in my new car at a lower price than Kragen. read more

DO NOT RECOMMEND ONE BIT. Stopped by because I had a blown tire and it was the closest location. I should have done a little more research, and even though I read some of the negative comments here, I still went ahead. 1. Facility dirty. 2. Employees slow, I noted I was in a rush and the employee working on my car was coming in and out of the shop with no consideration that I had to leave soon, he came in to grab a soda and talk to colleagues in the middle of my tire change. 3. HE SCRATCHED MY RIMS!!! No care that I have nice well taken care of 19"inch upgraded factory rims, he left scratches DEEP on both tires he changed. 4. Oil stain on my carpet from shoes. 5. Grease all over my steering wheel and door handle. 6. Before I left, I CAME BACK to let him know my sensors were going crazy and he needed to reset them (as you should every time you change your tire) He told me "oh, it will go away" 7. Next day I had to go to another Pep Boys 30min away to have them reset my sensors as they should have done to begin with. 8. I called Steve the Manager about my visit and he said he would call me back about my scratched rims and put a claim in and he NEVER CONTACTED ME BACK. SLOPPY SLOPPY SLOPPY PLACE. DO NOT GO HERE!! I went to Americas Tire for my other two and they knew how to treat a customer and were neat and speedy. Beware! read more

First off we had our car inspected at another location and they told us our serpentine belt needed to be changed and nothing else was wrong with our car. The only problem was they did not have the tool needed to change it out. So we made an appointment at PepBoys, we got there and they said no problem $70 for labor only (we had already purchased the belt). So we waited, then after an hour and a half they come out and tell us we have a BAD leak in our water pump?!?! So we asked for a price to repair/replace this they told us almost $500!!!!!! So we told them we would have to wait to get the money together and to just change the belt. Another hour goes by and they come back out to tell us there is another problem with the bearings to the pump now!!!! And they wont even change the belt unless we do all of the work now! We asked how much for everything and they told us $1,000.00 or more, they wouldn't know until they got into it! We then took our car to another REPUTABLE company and they said there is NOTHING wrong with the pump or the bearings at all!!! I WILL NEVER TAKE A CAR TO PEP BOYS AGAIN AND I WILL MAKE SURE ALL OF MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY DO NOT EITHER! read more

HERE IT GOES. It been like a week now and this is still bothering me so here i am to tell my review. I bought my tires from amazon and had them shipped to this pep boys to install and had added the alignment as well. Thought every thing went well at first. It was pretty fast i thought when i was heading home. While on the way home i was checking to see if they have fixed the alignment but nope they made it worse now there's some play in the steering which i never had before i had them aligned it. Also when i got home i was under my vehicle to check out the steering parts ,When i turned to look at my rims and and new tires To my F*****G surpise i see bunch of freaken deep brand new scratches. So deep it made me feel like slashes to my body. I checked all rims and all had bunches and deep scratches. I looked at my brakes and other parts that thought it might be caused by the tires but nope nothing. So next day i went back and told the guy that helped the other guy installed the tires. All he had to say is hes sorry ,It usually sometime happens. I was like i have never seen any machine in all my life till this day at any other tire shop do this to any of my vehicle rims. He just said sorry it does happen. F you man! I just left because i didnt want to cuss out or hurt anyone. Also i was so mad i forgot to tell him about my wheel alignment issue. These guys make pep boys company look real bad. Now i got to find and spend more money on new rims. which is going to be hard because i have no job. This is a copy and paste from google maps. I just want others to know my experience before they think about servicing their vehicles here. read more

These guys lied to me!! Just so they can make some money! I was on the way to LA and wanted to make sure my tires were good to go.. Terrible service. Just went in to get the tires balanced on my vehicle. They had four guys standing around talking and when the office lady Miranda asked who can help one guys responds I'm off in ten minutes, another guy says I gotta leave by 5:30. Then the other two were closing. By the way it's 4:15pm when I went in and they close at 6. The fact that they were so rude and didn't even bother to try to help but just sit around talking because it's close to the end of the day. So I just said you know what I'll find someone else who can do it and I googled the nearest tire shop and was done by 5:30 already going home. I would rate it a zero if I could, pep boys will never be seeing any of my business and I have been a customer for 4 years. read more

This place is alright. I usually come here when I cant find a part, or want to check another store for something if its not at Autozone or Kragen/O'reily. theirprices are a tad bit high, but you can sometimes find things decently priced. There was an older lady as a cashier that seemed like she hated her job, but i havent seen her in a long time.. The new younger cashier, i forgot her name, but i rememeber he last name sounded Italian, was really nice. As for the Automotive Shop Side, I feel that it is overpriced. Some of the employees are a little unapproachable, while there are some that stand out more than others. I am really bad with names but its the older woman with long blonde hair, tori? i think i dont know. I had a CD player installed in my car, and i had asked if they could try to hurry it up ( i had class in 2 hrs). It took them that entire time to do the job, and i ended up being late. However, The lady was kind enough to give me a what seemed like a 10% discount. As for the actual CD player install, I ended up paying 160 bucks for labor and extra parts. that was expensive... As for the quality of the labor, im not sure. My CD player resets every once in a while when i crank the volume, im not sure if its because of a bad ground, or my battery or alternator sucks, but im putting it out there. I'd honestly only go here if there was a promotion inside the store for something, but probably not automotive shop stuff anymore read more

I called and asked if they do alignment and they said YES and told them my make and model. Made an appointment and when I got there they said they can't do my alignment because my car was lowered. The manager and the techs were telling me that my car had aftermarket suspension, when it doesn't. All the corvettes have leaf springs and all newer corvettes like mine can be lowered by just tightening the bolt. I thought pep boys would employ smarter people than that. What's worst is that they tried to tell me my car has coilovers when I kept telling them it doesn't. Corvette suspension is not coilover it's LEAF SPRINGS. Complete waste of my time and caused a big inconvenience in my busy schedule. read more

I've been here several times for oil changes, and once to have my headlights buffed. I'll start with the headlights being buffed, this was about 7 months ago. I paid $80. Not only were they STILL yellow when I picked them up, I couldn't see any better. For $80, I should see a freeking mile down the road! This winter I'll take it somewhere else. My third oil change here was last Thursday. I dropped it off at noon, and said I'd be back at 6pm, so don't bother calling me, I'll just be here. Had to wait half an hour even though I gave them a whopping six hours to do something that should not have taken any longer than 45 minutes. Then I'm handed my paperwork. Nothing was filled out about the courtesy check stuff. I had asked them to check/refill my tire pressure, and my tires were just as flat when I pulled up to get it as they were when I dropped it off. To make matters even less customer oriented, the little sticker on my windshield wasn't replaced, so the old one is still there. What the heck?! You couldn't even take the 30 second to write me a new windshield tag?! You guys need some serious customer service attention. Either hire the staff you need to cover the things you say you'll do, or stop saying you'll do a courtesy check and refill my tires. Ug. read more

Literally the worst car servicing place I've ever been too. I brought them the brake pads needed for my car and just for labor they severely overcharged us. I paid it anyway just because I needed if done answer dropped it off at noon and they said it would be done in a few hours. Currently sitting in the waiting from st 5:30 and it's still not completed. 6 hours for a brake job? Completely ridiculous and also they have very unfriendly workers. I feel very torn writing this review. I want to start off by saying that this is not in regard to the employees working today, but rather towards the company, and I'm assuming their policies themselves. I came in today to get a tire replaced on my car. That's it. I came in two hours before closing. There were several other customers but it wasn't crazy and I was told that it would be a quick service and that they would be able to perform it today. We had even selected a tire and agreed to the price. I'm then told thirty minutes later that someone who had an appointment came in so they can't take care of me now. What? I completely understand the priority of appointments, but shouldn't the appointments have been weighed against walk ins from the get go? It was very disappointing. I'd like to say that I'll come back tomorrow to get the tire but I'd rather give my business to another company. The employees were very nice and I could tell he felt bad, but something in your procedure needs to change. Customers should be told immediately wether or not they can receive service. I hope someone sees this and takes it into consideration. read more

I went in for tons of car work and after each time there were new problems. They charged me for doing absolutely nothing and the last time I went in was due to problems with the work they previously did and btw it was $2000 worth of work so you'd hope it was done right.. well let's just say when I left my front driver side wheel was barely secure with 2 of the 4 lugs actually holding the wheel on the other two weren't even tightened. If I were driving on the freeway and lost my wheel and lost my life they probably wouldn't take accountability for it just because of how shitty they are.
